you can run any size motor with true straight pipe from the headers back, for good scavenging (what you need) and get rid of backpressure(hp enemy) you just need apropriate sized pipe.
That is true, but only if you retune the motor to run without the backpressure. Modern fuel injected engines are tuned to run with the backpressure from the cat's. If you remove the restriction you need to change the tune in the computer. If you don't do that you will actually lose power.
Just a quick fyi, even if your state does not require cat's it is a violation of federal law to remove the cat's. Chances are slim to none that a federal EPA agent would ever stop you and inspect ur truck, but if they did you are talking about a huge fine for not having a cat. Plus you probably lost some power when you removed the cat. That engine is designed to run on a certain amount of backpressure, cut out the restriction and you effect the exhaust scavenging. That reduces ur low end torque.

Chance Pugh i hav one just like yours only its xlt and i didnt do a half donkey lift like you did. Im stock height on 265/75r16. I did muffler delete and it still has 4 cats but it comes out right behind the cab and its loud. I dont know how you could stand no cats tho

With a proper custom tune youll get better fuel mileage with straight pipes than you would stock lol
