When he says let your stomach get used to it he means violent diarrhea. I would suggest trying these on short close to home runs before the long ones. Because the diarrhea will be crippling. CRIPPLING!!!!!
im actually considering this for my soccer or cricket games since the weather is extremely hot atm, do u have any idea how much energy gel I should take for it have some effect?
Each brand is a bit different on how much to take and finding one that you like is also a but of a test. Check out these ones. I think they would be a really good option to consider: www.scienceinsport.com/shop-sis/go-range/go-gels
It all depends on how well you tolerate and yes different types of gels have different amounts of caffeine. For me I take a gel every 45 mins and tend to save the higher caffeine gels until later in the race when I need an extra boost. Make sure you experiment in your long runs during training.
Definitely. Soccer practice and games would work well if you took one 15 mins before and a 2nd mid game. Lifting I find that I tend to look for other sources of energy as the gels are more of a slower burn.
I would ensure that you had a nice clean meal 1.5 - 2 hours before the test. One of these 15 mins before would give you a boost but be sure to test them out well before to make sure your stomach an handle them.
The GU brand in the video like many have a heavy texture so personally I like to take a drink after taking one of these gels. This particular brand however is an "isotonic" gel that does not require you to drink more water and a brand I really like. Check out my video here: ua-cam.com/video/aqtowobsUR8/v-deo.html
Hey thanks for the vid. While testing different gel brands ... would you mix brands so during training you start with the weak one at first and finish with the strongest with caffeine, or would you always stick with one brand per race?
Jimmy Valencia It’s a great idea to test different brands. I use different ones in a race situation and usually leave the caffeine ones until later on when I need an extra boost. You will also find some brands are higher in sodium which can be important as well. For me I’m usually a pretty salty sweater and need the extra salt so on hotter days I will go with higher sodium gels. That’s why experimenting in training is such a great idea to see how your body handles them. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching.
Looking at SIS Isotonic gels it seems they contain no sugar, but some other carbs. How do they work? What are they delivering to the muscles? How long do they take to work? Are SIS suggesting you can use this gel instead of water when they say "doesn't need to be taken with water"? Thanks.
Hey. Those are an interesting option for sure. Some of the guys I train with use them and find they work well. They are using a simple maltodextrin formula to deliver the carbs....which is a nice fast absorbing and slow burning energy source. The concept for these is that you don't need to drink water and thus dilute the gel. It also is supposed to reduce bloat from drinking too much fluid. I think I need to try these out myself so I can have a first hand experience and give a full review :-) Thanks for your note and for watching!
What do you think about chewables like the Clif Bloks? Do you still need to drink water with these the same a with Gels? Much easier to carry and eat on the run.
Monte Comeau I tend to stick with gels. I’ve used blocks but find they get stuck in my teeth and when I’m really fatigued it’s hard to chew when I’m short of breath. Gels for me are a bit quicker to get down.
Hey Kim. Good question to ask and tough to answer! Both are good options and will serve a similar purpose. The SIS gels have 2 main versions - Isotonic gels and caffeine gels. The Isotonic simply means they can be taken without water and typically absorb quicker into the system as they're not being diluted by fluids. I typically prefer to drink some fluids right after a gel which is why I like the GU's personally. Both brands offer a caffeine version which gives you an extra energy boost. I tend to save the caffeine gels for the later stages of a race or long run when I need that extra kick. I don't think you can go wrong with either option. I have an iron stomach and can handle most GELS but many people can't which is why flavor and texture often dictate brand of choice. I would grab a couple of each and experiment with them on your long runs. That will help you determine which one works and tastes the best. Hope that helps.
That's totally fine. Practice on one of your longest runs before race day to make sure you're stomach agrees and you're fine. For me I save the caffeine ones until later in the race becuase I get a bit of an extra energy shot, but thats just my preference.
Steven Peter I would suggest every 45 mins. So for example if it takes you. 2 hours to run a half marathon you would take 1 at 45 mins and a second one at the 1:30:00 mark.
Can i use that energy gel for basketball game? I have been playing bball everyday for 1 month (4-5 hour sessions) and now i feel weak and cant get out all my energy when shooting the ball. Is a gel to much for basketball?
VenomHades The benefit of Gels is that they can provide a quick shot of energy that doesn’t take long to work in the body. There’s no reason that you couldn’t take one just before you start, and then every hour as you play bball, especially given how long you’re playing for. Also look at your pre game nutrition and see if you’re eating enough complex carbs an hour or two before you play. This will also impact energy levels as well.
In your experience, which is better to take during a marathon: Gu roctane energy gel or the original gu energy gel? Do you ever mix the two (i.e. take a roctane to start the race and the original every 45 mins after)? Appreciate the help.
Doug R Hey great question. Personally I use both but what I have found works best for me is using the Roctane in the second half of a marathon. The extra caffeine boost helps when you’re starting to get physically and mentally drained. 😎
stevie miles Taylor I find these at almost all specialty running stores and some of the biggest sport stores have them as well. Try a few different flavours until you find one you like!
Good point on the “find out what the race is handing out.” Thanks
My pleasure! Thanks for watching.

Oh gosh I had no clue 😭 maybe I won’t take them then
I second that. I’ve made this mistake the first few times taking the gels. I cannot tolerate them
Omg I scared to try now
I've never felt sick taking them in my life
Thank you. Great content, information and presentation.
Thank you for watching!
Do energy gels help in 5ks or is it too short of a distance to see any real benefits?
One before you start is all you would need.
For a 2.7 run when should I take a gel
How do u have to be to have these energy gels
i use them hiking 14ers in CO. has made a massive difference in my endurance. too bad they dont make a gel for cardio. hahaha.
Cyclist use gels. That's thecreal deal when it comes to cardio
Should I use these for track before the 1 mile or two mile event?
im actually considering this for my soccer or cricket games since the weather is extremely hot atm, do u have any idea how much energy gel I should take for it have some effect?

Are they used only for running exercise ? can i take on of these for my 30min home workout?!🙋🏻♀️
You definitely could. I would suggest taking one 20 mins before you start.
Legacy Endurance Inc will do that!, thanks😍
How many Gel have I use for Running 5kilometer .... Or Before starting running how many minutes have to eat first
For a 5K it would be much better to have a light meal 45 -60 mins before rather than a gel. If you did however 1 gel 15-20 mins before would be best.
Hi..
How much energy Gels can we consume on a race.. given each pack contains 70mg caffeine and say we are running a FM??
It all depends on how well you tolerate and yes different types of gels have different amounts of caffeine. For me I take a gel every 45 mins and tend to save the higher caffeine gels until later in the race when I need an extra boost. Make sure you experiment in your long runs during training.
can i use for basketball games?
Definitely!
Can I use gu gel for soccer practices, and games? Also lifting sessions?
Definitely. Soccer practice and games would work well if you took one 15 mins before and a 2nd mid game. Lifting I find that I tend to look for other sources of energy as the gels are more of a slower burn.
Not a runner but use Gels on my long bike rides......I too thought OH MAPLE BACON!!! THATS GOING TO BE AWESOME........boy was I wrong hahaha.
Michael Cochenet no doubt. It was brutal. Worth a try but never again. 😎
I liked the maple bacon lol
Can i use this for the police physical test ???
I would ensure that you had a nice clean meal 1.5 - 2 hours before the test. One of these 15 mins before would give you a boost but be sure to test them out well before to make sure your stomach an handle them.

Are there any adverse effects for kids? I’m 14 and got a SIS energy gel with my football boots but I’m not sure if I should use it
You’ll be fine but have a look into the Wim Hof breathing method. It’ll improve your cardiovascular game by miles.
What do you think about chewables like the Clif Bloks? Do you still need to drink water with these the same a with Gels? Much easier to carry and eat on the run.

I agree. Blocks are nice if you can stop and eat them, but on the move, I prefer gels as well. :-)
Hi there just want to ask if which is better energy gel is it SIS or GU gels?

Is it risky to have in a marathon all my gels (I plan to use 4) with caffeine?

When is it a good time to take the gels when running, let's say half a marathon for example?
Steven Peter I would suggest every 45 mins. So for example if it takes you. 2 hours to run a half marathon you would take 1 at 45 mins and a second one at the 1:30:00 mark.
I use it after my cardio session right before lifting weights is that good ?
em22222 I would use it mid cardio sessions and then again mid weights to get the biggest energy boost. 👍🏻
only doing low reps to increase strength, was asking as i feel tired after 45m cardio
