  • Red Meat is an ancestral food for every human, including you. But, what if red meat causes diabetes? This would fly in the face of the results of 1000's of carnivores who've used a carnivore diet to reverse type 2 diabetes. And, if it's not true, then what's really going on with studies like this?

When my A1C was 10.5 I found Dr. Berry’s videos. I followed the drastic weight loss video and list 40 pounds in 9 weeks. I ate nothing but red meat. Not only did I lose that weight, my A1C came down to 5.7. I have continued following the Keto diet for almost two years. Today, my A1C is around 5. I am on no prescription meds. My total weight loss is 100 pounds. I have maintained for one year. To add perspective, I also changed my sedentary lifestyle. I tell everyone who asks, 80% nutrition and 20% exercise. Anyone can dramatically change their health and quality of life.

My dad got type 2 diabetes. He ate red meat almost every day since being a very young child. What is never questioned by these surveys is how much of everything else they ate. My dad had 6 cups of tea a day with 2 teaspoons of sugar. He also ate deserts every night and cereal for breakfast with a desert spoon of sugar on it followed by toast with jam on it. Even his doctor was only concerned with the meat and fat in his diet.

Exactly 13 months ago I was taking 2 different insulins 3 times a day, and my doctor was preparing me to accept the idea of possible temporary dialysis being most likely in my near future. I fired my doctor Nov.10th, 2022 and went total carnivore. I simply cut out all carbs and sugar and quit taking insulin, not caring abought any consequences. I've been essentially on a high fat diet and counting no calories, whatsoever. My first complete blood tests was in March of this year. All metrics were in the normal range, including glucose, triglycerides, and cholesterol. I was ecstatic and honestly thought it was a fluke or a mistake. My last Text was October 6th and al my metrics were even better than the one in March, which I didn't think was even possible. Even my good cholesterol was the highest it's ever been in 40 years since getting blood tests taken. I just turned 65 and on medicare since October 1st. My NEW doctor was/is completely impressed with my journey and where I am right now. All says to me is just keep doing what you're diong.

I ate very little red meat for the past 10+ years, believing it was unhealthy. I was then diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes with an A1c of 9.5. Was put on diabetes medication which made me incredibly sick. I’m now doing strict keto and eat a LOT of red meat and my A1c is below 6. I take no medication. My endocrinologist has provided zero support and zero encouragement for me trying to manage this with diet and exercise alone. Why do mainstream media and the medical community push this misinformation on us?? Because there’s no profit in healthy people who take no medications.

The fact of the matter is, all of our food is somewhat contaminated, no matter what the label says about being organic or "non-GMO". The difference is, ruminant animals have many stomach chambers to filter a lot of crap out before it ends up in the bone and muscle tissue, red meat is simply far more nutrient dense than plants, and irrefutably better for you. My start was asking my doctor for years for nutritional guidance or advice. His answer was always your blood test looks fine. I finally got mad after being bedridden and begging him for help for 3 years. I told him there is either something wrong with the test or your test does not look for whatever was killing me. I bought 1 hard cover book and one pdf about blood tests that you wrote. I wanted to try with his support. He said the blood test is too expensive and it is unnecessary. I called my insurance, my cost was the same. To tell me my blood test is unnecessary after I did everything he asked is unforgivable. It must be it was necessary for me to have zero quality of life bedridden. I lost 60 pounds in the first 60 days. I lost 100.8 pounds in 179 days. Total loss now 156 pounds. I feel better than I have in 40 years. What does anyone have to lose by trying your own little study? I thank Makaila Peterson who got me to you❤❤❤❤

My fasting blood glucose was 72 this morning, down from between 90 and 150. Never been on diabetes meds even when it was high. Thank you again. I live in Waco, Texas. I didn't find out you were coming to San Antonio in time to make the drive or I would have. Looking forward to meeting you in person sometime because I have a gift for you.

My blood work was excellent, my weight was back to normal, my blood pressure was getting near normal and the doctor took me of all drugs.

I had diabetes type 2 a year ago. I started the carnivore diet and I was eating steak five nights a week and chicken two nights a week. I always eat my steak medium rare. Within 2 weeks of starting the carnivore diet, I started having hypoglycemic attacks and had to be taken off the metformin at the 30-day mark I had labs done and my A1C went from an 8.3 to a 6.1. I did the carnivore diet for 4 months. My A1C is now 4.9 and I no longer have diabetes type 2. They can keep their studies and leave the red meat for those of us who want it.

The biggest red flags in this study beyond the obvious 4 year guessing game is the design of the groups they used. They included "plant based with low sugar" as a cohort, without including an "animal based with low sugar" cohort. They include no quantification or definition for what "animal based" even means. None whatsoever. It is intentionally designed to compare the "healthiest" low carb vegan against those consuming the SAD (standard American diet). Right in their own results, they show that the low carb vegan is healthier than the standard vegan 😂. That's enough to let people know that it's always been the carbs. So red meat not the issue, as has been shown in countless reliable studies.

Hello Dr Berry, wishing you well! I got diagnosed with pre diabetes over a year ago now. I followed the NHS guidelines and help from Oviva NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme. Well I am still pre diabetic, today in a long time my sugar levels spiked because I eat lots of chocolate last night because I am bored of not being able to eat what I want!! I have just been to the supermarket and brought some chicken breasts and eggs which I am going to eat over the next week to see if this will make me feel better plus go down the gym on the treadmill and exercise the bike again! I will still eat for breakfast blueberries with my weetbix and see if this will make a difference! I am fed up with being pre diabetic not knowing what I should eat because all the labels are red and orange with not many green labels. It stressful and sets my anxiety off. I will let you know how I get on and will leave another message on this video for you. Best wishes, Andy from the uk

I was 70 lbs. overweight, had super high 10x insulin levels, pre-diabetic, lots of visceral fat, high uric acid, autoimmune issues, constant boil infections, hemorrhoids, stomach issues and depression. Finally i had enough and decided i didn’t want to die but also didn’t want to live like that anymore. Every few months would be a new health issue and nothing worked to help me lose weight. I started eating lots of salads but it just got worse.. Now i am carnivore and my health has dramatically improved pretty quickly. I only eat all meat, eggs, avocado, lemon, salt / electrolytes and on an 18 hr fasting / 6 hr. eating window. I am seeing all the previous health issues being resolved and my weight is finally moving towards its natural healthy level. I never felt so good since i was in college

Well I have been following one of your videos on a no carb no sugar diet as part of my eating habits and I live now on high protein and a what I like to think is a semi keto diet. I have been eating red meat such as beef and pork along with a ton of cruciferous and no carb vegetables and I have lost now 3Kg which for me is a miracle because I am 76 years old and my metabolism has in my mind slowed down from what it was a few year ago. Of course I do 2x40 minutes walk at 4km per hour followed with a 70 pull ups with 4 Kg dumbbells which has improved my strength and ability to do daily things such as shopping or some garden jobs. I am also just been started on a medication called Jardiance which is used for dealing with one's blood glucose levels and I am taking for not that exact reason but to improve my hearts condition and I shall be interested in what happens with my weight because of it too. As for my blood glucose levels now I am steady at around 5.0 - 5.5mmols which is just that and as you say Ken eating red meat has had no effect on my blood glucose levels let alone my general health.

I'm a text book case of the cause of T2. #1, I was pre-diabetic for years and not one Dr ever caught that. I ate whatever I wanted, drank a lot of full sugar soda, bread, pasta, potatoes and all the wrong fats (I bought the BS on fats). While the pounds were added, no Dr asked me what I ate, my exercise regime or family history, especially current family illnesses. AND I was being treated by the world famous Mayo clinicians. I still read totally WRONG info on their website. It's no wonder I'm where I am right now. Im treating myself now with Keto and it's the only success I've had in decades and it was rapid. I'm wearing clothes I packed away 15 yrs ago because everything was too tight. Now guess what! Now I'll have get some new stuff as it's all getting annoying loose fitting! Really hard to "take in" jeans❤

My father smoked 5 packs a day and ate nothing but meat, ice cream(A big soup bowl full very single night) and occasionally iceberg lettuce and broccoli crowns. He also drank 3-5 pots, not cups, of coffee with cream and sugar. He developed lung cancer in his mid 70s, but it was very slow growing and he lived with it (no treatment) until the age of 84. Here's the interesting thing, my mother cooked 95% of their meals from scratch until she was in her early 70s, then slowly switched to ultra processed food because she was tired of cooking. She developed stomach cancer at the same time as my father did lung cancer (She was also a smoker, a pack a day and drank 2-3 pots of black coffee daily, NEVER drank plain water.), also lived to 84, no treatment. My Old World grandparents always had large amounts of meat at every meal, all lived well into old age. Two of my siblings have died early of cancer, both were into vegetarian/fad diets and ate very little meat. Things that make you go hhhhmmmm.

YES! I love your comment here! And I think your observations/ conclusions are right on point! I went “carnivore” in Jan of 2023… did it as a 30 day test, still doing it 10 months later. This way of eating has improved my life phenomenally… while not absolutely perfectly either.
I think that some of the “vices” of life [like smoking, drinking, etc] become a LOT less dangerous…IF we are not beating the SHIT out of our immune systems with carbs and seed oils… and while this seems to be becoming common knowledge [amongst the low card crowd] I’m not convinced we REALLY understand the [real] reasons [the actual physiology] as to why [carbs and seed oils] are SO detrimental. Yes, I know the laundry list of “whys”: “ the Randell cycle’, “ inflammation’, etc… but I think we are yet to learn the Full reasons??

Careful! Careful! Careful! We are only talking about red meat specifically here!. I gave myself diabetes on carnivore / zerocarb about 3 years ago when I started out, so it can happen! I felt like I wasn't adapting and took Stephanie Keto's Pearson's advice to eat 200g of fat a day minimum and everyone was saying 'Fat doesn't make you fat' but calorie wise, I only needed 100g to meet my calories needs. My blood sugar was fine for 6 months so I stopped checking it but it's this simple, if you overeat calories you will develop diabetes. You don't get a blood sugar spikes but too much fat will raise your baseline blood glucose levels the following day. After about 1 year, I found myself craving more and more food and I developed slow wound healing a side effect of being diabetic. Anyhow, my resting blood sugar in the morning was now 7.3. Of course I tackle this in a few ways, took a break and got my A1C at 5.2, I'm carnivore on and off now. A few things may have contributed, I was also experimenting with high saturated fat intake and I think the constantly high blood sugar led to leptin resistance due to the raised insulin and it made me actually eat more, I went from eating typically 1800 calorie to 4600 calories, some people say they cant eat fat, I didn't have that satiation and yes I only put weight around the mid section.

In the last few months I’ve been doing the carnivore diet and just recently I’ve been having some very concerning symptoms. Heart palpitations and irregular heart beats, strange sensations in the stomach, tightness in the left side of the chest, tingling in my left arm, chronic constipation. I’ve never had symptoms like this before but it’s lead me to immediately halt my carnivore diet. I was very strict with it. Eating only grass fed beef, liver, salt, and added beef tallow for that extra fat. I was so hopeful for this diet to work for me and I’m at a loss for why I ended up having such horrible symptoms from it.

@joelleo396. Consume a balanced diet. After I got back home from work today, I had a cheeseburger 🍔 , and a burrito 🌯, loaded up with onions 🌰.
I add sour cream on both, burgers and burritos. Ketchup is added on my cheeseburgers. I then had a cucumber. 🥒 They are a neat nifty easy to eat, quick to consume vegetable. They Really help to balance things out. Last night I had a nice batch of romaine lettuce, with plenty of Newman's oil & vinegar dressing. This is stuff that humans are meant to consume, for the sake of balancing our dietary intake. Yes, meat 🍖 is Good, and Most Certainly has it's place, but balance is Crucial for human beings to realize, emphasize, and utilize. We are Omnivores, not exclusively Carnivores. That's Cats, Lions, and Tigers, with they're VERY Short intestinal tracts. We have Very VERY Long intestinal tracts in comparison. Our Creator made it that way, and also in the Good Book 📖 it clearly emphatically emphasizes, that, Too Much Meat Bringeth Sickness. And Bread 🍞 strengthens the Heart. The Proper Good Quality Bread of course. And Crisp-Bread is another Healthy Bread, which will keep for a Long Time, even at Room Temperature, unlike standard bread. Apples 🍎 are Great for staying regular. Bananas 🍌 too. And obviously Prunes are a Great American Classic for providing Great Constipation Relief/Digestive Repair. Balance Balance Balance !!! We're Not Lions !!! They Can't get Colon Cancer, but Many amongst our Human Species Do !!! And it's from improper dietary imbalances..!!!

I had to increase the insulin dosage by 3x, and Metformin dosages by 2x over the 6 months I followed it.. I also gained 5 lbs. I went carnivore and eating mostly red meat, my A1C went from 10.1 to 5.6, and I was able to get off not only my diabetes meds, but ALL my prescribed meds. I feel better now at age 64 than I've felt in as long as I can remember. I'm able to now fit in a 32" waist size pants, which has never happened in my entire adult life. The first thing I thought of when I heard of this "study" was my own habits -- and the habits of everyone else I have ever known -- when eating red meat over 60 years. Most of the time, it meant eating hamburgers with buns and fries. Other times, it was a steak with a nice, big baked potato -- and maybe an ear of corn. Occasionally, it was beef stew, with potatoes, carrots, peas, and flour-thickened gravy. Then there were all those biscuits-and-sausage gravy breakfasts... All-beef hot dogs on buns... Roast beef or Italian beef sandwiches on either Kaiser or French rolls, almost always accompanied by fries... Salisbury steaks with mashed potatoes and flour-thickened gravy... Chicken fried steaks with mashed potatoes and flour -thickened gravy... Chinese or Mongolian beef dishes with rice or noodles... Lasagna or some other pasta with seasoned ground beef... These are just off the top of my head; I could go on and I am sure that other people could easily add to these. Also, while I have been drinking sugar-free sodas for many years, many people wash down all those carbohydrates with even more, in the form of sugary sodas or juices. The bottom line is that this Harvard "study" is a joke. What's really sad is that many people will take it at face value instead of thinking it through. (My wife did; I had to educate her.). Please, people, educate those you can, for their benefit.

My A1c was 13% in 2020. I started a very low carb ketogenic diet in March, 2022 and brought my A1c down to 8%. I transitioned to a carnivore diet on March 13, 2023, and now my a1c (as of July 3, 2023) is 5.8%. I'm no longer diabetic. If I get my A1c down another 1/10th of a percent, I won't even be "pre-diabetic" . I eat 1-2lbs of mostly red meat every day.
From 13% to 5.8%. At an A1c of 13%, there is a lot of organ damage, including arteries. I attribute this to my cardiovascular disease, my non-alcholic fatty liver disease.
*before* I started a ketogenic diet (3/2022) , and later carnivore (3/2023), I had two strokes and a heart attack WHILE they were putting stents in. I was paralyzed on my right side, and had Broca's aphasia. I could not speak/read/write. I am quite certain that going on a ketogenic diet, the ketones helped my brain/nerves recover. I was able to go back to work (hi tech, very cerebral job) within two months.

I agree with your view of finding the method of FFQ not reliable enough, although I'm not a scientist that can atest to the unreliability of that, and let's not even talk about the media because they don't seem to be able to read articles correctly, the only thing that matters is getting views with scandalous news.
Nevertheless, I just read the articles and there are a few things I found different from what you said.
First thing is how the FFQ were conducted, they sent the questionaries every 2-4y, but the questions were only about the past 12 months. I did not find the questionnarie itself, but there are probably some problems like you mentioned, about not correctly cosidering the calories of the burgers people ate and such. And then there was a significant group of people who provided some 7-day-weighed-diet data at the begininning and at the end of the year the questionnaries were conducted, meaning more reliable data.
Second thing is the HR thing, they really did not mention a total risk, but the 1.4 you talked about is something else completely. It is said that, comparing people who consume a lot of meat and people who consume little meat, the first group has a HR of 1.62, or 62% higher risk of having T2D than the second group. So 62% higher risk is a lot. People who consumed less than 17g of total red meat per day, the risk of T2D increased from 1.18 to 1.97 compared to people who consumed over 119g of total red meat per day. That's considerably more risk for such a common portion of consumed meat. When you talked about the smoking HR 40, it is about people who smoke over 35 cigarrettes/d, so it's very extreme.
Third, of course a higher meat consumption is linked to reduced levels of glucose, since there are no carbohydrates, but the T2D is caused by the high leves of saturated fat that lead to reduced beta cell function and lower insulin sensitivity, according to the study.
The part where you say there are no people in the carnivore community reporting T2D increase is important and I think more high quality studies should be done so we can come to that conclusion (or not, truth should prevail) with science.
But uh, "I'm not here to mislead you, I'm not here to sell you anything". Well, then what are these links in the description selling stuff? xD

I don’t necessarily believe in Keto but I do believe in the whole food diet
I do agree with you, I think there is nothing wrong with red meat. People in my family lived almost to 100, they ate all foods including red meat. All things in moderation and exercise
No magic products, just real food, very little processed foods and sugary treats once and a while
Thank you for taking about this

I hardly ever visit a doctor and take zero medication but if doctor Berry was my doctor, I would go see him every week just to ask questions and get the right answers.

Carnivore dropped my Hba1c from 105 to 32 (U.K. measurements - under 48 is normal) inside 3 months. Eating meat literally saved my life.

Does not surprise me at all. Just follow the “new world order” crap they are trying to do. Harvard USED to be credible. Not anymore. Eat bugs / plants they say. Hoe about the F-D-A and the food pyramid that is now recommended. Have you seen it? It’s a disgrace. Totally incorrect information provided. This was a Hit Piece that has sadly gotten worldwide attention. Total miss information is what this “study” is about. Show’s us that we are up against a destructive plan to change us to what THEY want.😢😮
