You’re a breath of fresh air mate. Most Aussie tradespeople won’t share skills and experience. We’ve been relying on the Americans on UA-cam …

Our contractor is really so unskilled. I should have just done it myself. Thanks for sharing. This is really the only way I see fillers should finally look.

I tried this with MDF particle board (the really dense stuff), but had troubles with the pocket hole screws causing the board to split/crack inside. Solved it by pre-drilling the hole in the filler board at the same angle as the pocket hole screw with a tapered drill bit. Otherwise a brilliant idea for those filler panels! You can also do the same using dowels.

Thanks Arthur for watching & sharing your feedback. Yes it’s a good idea to pre-drill especially when using MDF. You can see me demonstrating this and mentioning the exact same tip in one of my other videos on “Installing concealed runners”. I use a long series drill bit (around 3mm) on the same pocket hole angle just a little bit to start it then screw in. Workday treat!
      Thanks for watching 👍

I'm home DIY but what I have learned from others you always predrill MDF and melamine with screw that is the size of a body of screw you will screw in, let's say you want to use 7x50 or 5x50 confirmat screw, then you predrill with 4mm.
P.S. @ Geoff, how much cm do you leave from wall? I'm thinking about making a wardrobe and this could be nice to do it next to the wall and ceiling...

@@mrki412 somewhere around 20mm looks nice and also gives you enough material to just clamp when having to cut this to suit 😁

countersink bit is what you want for predrilling

How to you cover the gap between the 2 boards?

Would love to see you installing now and scribing. I assume you remove those filler strips on site so you can scribe after installing the box.

Yes, this video was just about how I pre-fit these side fillers so they can fit together back on site a lot easier. After you have installed the cabinet the next step is measuring the distance from the wall to your cabinet (take a measurement at the top and bottom) then transfer that measurement onto your filler, cut and plane to suit, then a little gap filler if needed. Definitely stay tuned as I will get around to building and installing a TV unit soon and will video the whole project.
      Thanks for your reply :)
