I liked the fact Mario praised Joe's without hesitation as if he knows that New York is vastly big enough for the both of them. He seemed to realize that there's no reason to compete with a staple of NYC pizza in a city so big. His main selling point is selling ingredients, pizzas, and recipes. Joe's is just good pizza shop that sells by the slice.

Ever since this episode, I’ve wanted to try Joe’s pizza. It truly does look like the perfect slice. And I live in NJ, right near NYC, so I knew I could try it. But I could never find the place! I finally found it recently, and every slice looks as delicious as the slices that they show here, the ones that caused me to look for this restaurant for years. And the pizza is so, so, so good!

Mario Batalli is the type of dude that’s chill but will be quick to call you on your bs and I love that.
I love how Mario Batali points out that Joe’s is a good slice and should not be excluded from the party. He understands that it’s not traditional Italian pizza, but it’s still wonderful and tasty nonetheless. American pizza is incredibly different from Italian pizza, but both are delicious and there’s room for both in this world
It's not hard to make an expensive dish if you just put some gold on it. The gold doesn't add anything to the taste, it's just decoration. You could just as well make a $10 million pizza by ordering from Domino's and put a large diamond in the middle of it.

It's funny how the cheaper pizza places said that pizza is more about the crust and then the most expensive place had pizza that was like 20% crust 80% toppings, the most expensive, and the most unappetizing

To be fair, the expensive restaurant has toppings like Faux Grais and Truffle so I would hope that the crust isnt focused on. He said he wanted to be different than any other place in New York (the gold is pretty ridiculous though). I still prefer the traditional pizza regardless of the cost lol.

Oh man, I am a New Yorker at heart in so many ways having lived and loved it there for years. Eating a Joe's New York slice folded in half in the park opposite enjoying the fountain doing the lean with a paper plate? So great. Many great delicious slice spots in New York but Joe's is definitely on the top list in Manhattan in my humble opinion. The line ups seem to concur. They don't mess around so you don't wait long, and you get a great slice. I don't know exactly what it is but to me a New York slice is thin, not too many toppings, nice crispy crust but the point kind of flops a little, of course you fold it, and there is that little bit of delicious oil that you catch before it gets on your shoe. Also doesn't break the bank and you get a cheeky wink because they know it is good - there are classics. I remember having a clam pie for the first time 20 years ago somewhere else - had never heard of such a thing at the time before - delicious. xo NYC.

The most telling thing about the gold pizza was how little Steven and Andrew actually talked about it. Usually they have positive things to say even if the food is ridiculously expensive. But here the most you got was a mention that the cheese was creamy. Then they spend most of the time talking about the gold and how eating the pizza makes them feel like a Bond villain. It's like they were trying to find any excuse not to talk about what it actually tastes like.

I keep coming back to the segment with Mario Batali. Such a treat to watch.
Mario's (from Rosso Pomodoro) comment about not discounting competition and welcoming it - priceless. They both have their own market and love the fact that he voiced it.
