I mean its a habanero altho an extremely hot habanero its still mild compared to the ones over a million scoville. :D Honestly for someone specialized in the extremely hot varieties a habanero should taste mild.

I grow some and I have noticed for this season they are not as hot because the plant is not as stressed. This year with a lot more water I think they would be around 300,000scu. Last year I had the plant stressed to the max to just survive and I felt like it would have been closer to 600,000-750,000scu
Different tolerance levels, then. Bird’s Eye chillies are mild, so mild we use them daily and in almost every meal in Malaysia. The green ones have little to no heat at all in them. Very earthy. The ripe red ones have heat in them, but I think they’re mild. I love using them for fried rice. Pound them with onions, a bit of garlic, a bit of dried shrimp with a pestle and mortar. Sautee the paste in oil, until you really smell the aroma rising. When the paste starts to get a bit darker, put in oyster sauce and/or fish sauce (yea, the smelly one) and stir. Put in leftover rice, and cook evenly. Use MSG for seasoning, but if you’re too scared to use MSG, salt to taste, a pinch of sugar.

Felt like getting stung on the tip of your tongue or getting a staple through your tongue. The pain lingered awhile too. I called them angry yellowjacket chilis because that is what it felt like. "Blind" in this case means they threw a bunch of peppers at him without telling him what they are. This is something you learn in like 3rd or 4th grade son.

He probably did positively identified his just by its looks alone, the taste test just confirmed it. He's 1 of 2 now so it's very likely for him to not positively identify the rest. Edit and spoiler: He did identified traditional peppers and hot hybrid peppers he's familiar with and his incorrect answer being Habanada (which is still correct technically with it being a heatless Habanero hybrid). Ed really knew his stuff.

I'm surprised that so many people including Ed himself gives the Carolina Reaper pepper so little credit for flavor because at least for me, I absolutely love its flavor whether it is eating the pepper straight or using it as a sauce or powder on food, it is one of my favorites and for me is it has been the most versatile pepper to satisfy all my spice needs.
Honestly when you are interested in spicy stuff enough to build at least SOME tolerance, then yes habanero is mild. Though depends on the application. For me habanero hot sauces are too weak but eating a habanero powder infused fudge was somewhat eye watering (but enjoyable). My favorite hot sauce is carolina reaper beased but a piece of carolina reaper infused chocolate did make me cry, etc. Now, those are processed chillies, raw ones are different, but he doesn’t take that much of a bite of each.
He invented and named at least 4 of those, and bred most of the crosses. But, you can’t find peppers Ed doesn’t know. That they tricked him on one is impressive.

My mom had an orange habanero pepper plant in our back yard growing up, when I was about 9, I saw them and though they looked sorta like a kumkwat, so I took a small bite, I have hated spicy foods and pepper since that day even tho I absolutely love the smell of anything extremely spicy
