Thanks for the video! Here's my recipe: 1/3 cup oats 1Tbs chia, 1 scoop protein powder, 1Tbs cocoa nibs 1Tbs Maple Syrup, 1 Tbs peanut butter and a handful of banana chips or fresh banana slices. 2/3 cup coconut milk. I shake it up real well overnight in the frig -In the morning it is GREAT heated up in the micro wave with a cup of black coffee. !
Love overnight oats. I use almond milk in mine and also add a 1/2 scoop of either vanilla or chocolate Whey Protein. Sometimes I'll blend a 1/2 a banana with the milk before adding the other ingredients.
I was trying to figure out how I can carry oatmeal at work or anywhere and not have to use microwave. I didn't think about freezing them. Thank you so much for the great idea! I like those containers.
Okay! Made the breakfast Oatmeal with fresh blueberries a few times and kicked it up a notch. I did the oats, chia seeds, vanilla Chobani yogurt, milk and 1 packet of Splenda. Shakeshakeshake and refrigerated over night. Added a splash of pure maple syrup & stirred well just before serving. AWESOME!
I had one of these this morning, which I made last night with banana, raspberries and honey and because the rasps release their juices, it mixed with everything else and made it even better.
this is great!! my husband is starting to have issues with gastritis and my father has just been diagnosed with diabetes. They both have been really looking for a great morning drink. I'll try to make it less sweet for my Dad. Thanks!!
I made this last night and used almond milk and orange vanilla Chobani. Kept everything else the same. And for the flavoring I used half of a banana, a drop of orange extract and blue agave nectar. Mine turned out thicker than yours appears to be, which is what I was hoping for. It was probably the almond milk. It turned out very good and it's a great quick thing for me to grab and take to work because I never have time to sit down and eat breakfast before I leave.
best idea ever!! I get up for work at 5am so would be good to have something ready to eat when I get to work. Fruit on its own or cereal get boring! This will definately make me get out of bed in the morning!
I add cinnamon & splenda ,chia seeds, low carb milk and a tsp. of sugar free cheesecake flavored pudding ---it tastes just like a cinnamon roll ! (I'm low carbing & this is awesome !)

+EstaLoCa1216 - My oats are soft and slightly mushy, and that's with using Old Fashioned Oats. The oats feel like they've been cooked. I did buy a bag of Thick Oats in hopes of more texture, and they are better than the regular oats. I've made this so many different ways and have loved them all. hey Jack, I made apple cinnamon and chocolate strawberry flavors andnthey came out great. 1st one was fresh apple chunks, mapple syrup, cinnamon powder, a pinch of pink sea salt, whea protein almond milk. 2nd one was almond milk, fresh strawberries, Belgian cocoa powder or a good quality dark chocolate, chia seeds, honey, a pinch of pink sea salt. This, minus the chia seeds, is essentially Bircher Muesli - developed around 1900 by a Swiss physician for patients in his clinic. The original muesli was soaked overnight in water (and lemon juice) and eaten with yoghurt, and was essentially raw rolled oats, with fruit such as grated apple added before it was served. Also, there was generally a lot more fruit than oats in Bircher muesli (pretty much the opposite proportions to modern pre-prepared mueslis). Modern 'quick oats' don't need the long soak as they are steam treated to soften them. As some commenters have noted however - the more processing, the more the chance of cross contamination (and it does reduce the nutritional value somewhat). The above isn't meant as any reflection on the poster of the video - his combinations sound delicious! I think it must be easier to find actual raw rolled oats here in NZ - perhaps we have fewer of the multitude of processed options? I've never had trouble finding them, anyway. A point however: the poster who noted that only around 1% of the population have problems with gluten is essentially correct - about 1% of the population have coeliac disease, or true 'gluten sensitivity' - a genetic autoimmune condition that damages the wall of the small intestine and results in malabsorption of essential nutrients such as vitamin B12. It can't be cured - you have to go 100% gluten-free - but it can be tested for, so you can know for sure if you have it. And about 0.4% have a true 'wheat allergy' (again - doctor diagnosed) which is a true allergic response to wheat, which may show up as skin, respiratory or gastrointestinal symptoms. There is however NO scientific evidence that the fad (as that's what it is - another dietary fad) for eating 'gluten-free' is necessary or even healthy for most people, as we get many necessary nutrients from whole grains, and a lot of the time those whole grains are obtained from wheat or oats. So the message? See your doctor if you think you have coeliac or a wheat allergy; and otherwise, ditch the fads and simply eat a balanced diet. And yes - I am a doctor, and work with dieticians (as in people who have degree qualifications and are registered dieticians - not 'nutritionists', who don't have to have any qualifications or be registered, so avoid!) and have worked with people who have the above conditions. The only good thing any of us can see about the fairly recent 'gluten-free' train that everyone is jumping on is the much wider variety of gluten-free foods now available for the people who actually need them!
Love this video, Jack. If you want to make this even more healthy, try adding up to a tablespoon of ground flax seed. It's a good source of omega 3's, fiber and it helps to lower your LDL (bad) cholesterol. Just be sure to use ground flax seeds, or grind the whole ones yourself. The whole seeds aren't digestible, so you won't get any of the benefits if you don't grind/crush them. My favorite flavor for overnight oats is strawberry vanilla. So refreshing on a warm summer morning.
I eat overnight oats basically everyday for breakfast my favorite recipes has peanut butter cocoa and banana also I add some honey to taste some super easy ones have the basics plus pure fruit jam and whatever fruit I have on hand , sometimes I use hemp hearts, ground flax seeds instead of the chia seeds.
I'd recommend substituting Bob's Red Mill Muesli for the oats to give it a little more dimension. It's mostly oats, but it also has some different seeds, nuts, and dried fruit. I've had this with craisins as well and they basically get rehydrated. Thanks for the recipes!
my recipe: 31g of oats, 50g greek yogurt, 3g of chia seeds, half a scoop of a vanilla protein powder, 60 g of frozen berries/fruit, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, and unsweetened vanilla almond milk, usually around around 3/4 cup. comes out to around 270 calories for me. the way i get different flavors is by playing with the fruit options or playing with flavor of protein though most of the time i stick to vanilla or cookies and cream. also just a note, the frozen fruit turn nice and soft by morning time and taste pretty good. i do this most mornings. I really look forward to this every morning. its so good.
I really love this. I never want to make breakfast in the morning when I'm trying to wake up and my husband and I rarely get up at the same time. So, this is great for me, I make it at night when I have motivation and it's just ready for us in the morning! I did not "mash" the chia seeds and they still did their job ;) The first few bites were strange, cold oatmeal is kinda weird, but I loved it by the end. Yummy!
I read a comment that someone said that you have to smash the Chia seeds. That's not true. You can eat them two different ways. You can either soak them in liquid for up to 20 minutes and let them expand, or you can just add the seeds to whatever you're drinking and they'll expand in your stomach. They're supposed to absorb the liquid of what you put it into. They almost seem like a tapioca consistency. Also, I read a comment where someone asked if they could leave out the Chia seeds. You can, but the Chia seeds help to make it thick. If you leave the Chia seeds out this dish will be runny.
My favorite combo is 1/3 cup oats, 1/4 tsp. cinnamon, 2 tsp brown sugar and a between 1/2 to 2/3 cup coconut milk. I prefer to leave mine sit for two days because the oats are softer. I like your idea of maple syrup though. I'll have to give that a try.
I haven't made this recipe yet, but I am excited to try it. Just watching the video I can tell this Wil be a good recipe. I want to eat healthier & I'm always looking for nutritious recipes especially one that easy to make & can be done ahead of time, this recipe meets all those criteriam
You can LOAD these up with fruit. It's sooooo good. I'm not even an oatmeal person and I'm like "ALL THE OVERNIGHT OATS!" You can just put whatever in it and soooo good.
I tried these a few years back when they were really popular and I loved them! It's a great breakfast for on the go, or out the door quickly in the morning and much better and less boring than a yogurt and toast! I liked the variety of all the fruits and I've always loved oatmeal, so these were a nice change - try them!
Thanks for the video! I really like the way you taste test to give a video review right then of how it is! Last night I tried the cocoa banana and it was horrible this morning. After watching the video I know what I did wrong so it's not a total failure. My measuring tools were hard to read. I thought the measurement said 1/3, but, it was 1/8 so there was my error! I am not giving up!
+Muscle Head I put chia seeds in our morning smoothies. Don't even notice them but they're so healthy! Vegans often use them as an egg replacement in recipes because they gel when introduced to water/liquids.
+helpfulnatural yes the gel is the slimy texture I mentioned that bothers me personally , cause there's always some that get left in your teeth n mouth. Yes very healthy tho
Muscle Head Yea, I know what you mean. I love to put chia into my recipes but alone?...Uh, no. It is suggested that chia can help with weight loss by acting as an appetite suppressant. You mix 1 tablespoon of the seeds with 4 oz. of water, stir and let it gel. Then drink it down. It is supposed to give you a full feeling so you don't overeat. I tried this once but it was difficult to drink. Like swallowing unflavored gelatin....ugh!.
Can I say that I have always wanted to see how people eat these overnight oatmeal the next day, they never show it! thank you for the great video and showing us the taste test.
If you leave them out it won't thicken like it shows in the video. Chia seeds expand in liquid to sort of a tapioca consistency, and that's where you get the thickness of the product you see in the video. Jack probably should have mentioned the advantage of using chia seeds in something like this aside from the fact that they have protein and fiber. They thicken.
After the refrigerator does it's thing, could I heat it just a little, I really don't like cold food? Would heating it interfer with the nutritional value? Thanks
Jack, I really wish you would stop using these stock images on your thumbnails. It reflects badly on YOUR final product. If you feel that what YOU made is not good enough for a thumbnail, then maybe you should start over or try something until you're happy with its aesthetics. This is not the first time you've done this. Your refrigerated oatmeal does not look like the refrigerated oatmeal in the thumbnail.
This isn't really a stock image, it's a thumbnail taken from a page where I'm guessing that Jack got the idea. Check out www (dot) theyummylife (dot)com/Refrigerator_Oatmeal and that page has the exact image. I feel you though, I'd rather have seen HIS result in the thumbnail instead of something else entirely.
Every company out there, no matter what, makes their final product look aesthetically pleasing. Why? because it's all part of marketing. Would you use something if it looked 'ugh'? nope. Ever try to make a cookie recipie that looks sooo amazing on the package and when you make it, it rarely looks like what's on the package. My final point, stop breathing down this guy's back, he's doing us a huge favor sharing his recipies for free which i find simply wonderful. So, without further ado, Go Jack Go!
Pure oatmeal is preferred, but most oatmeal on the market is quick oats, or heavily processed. Meaning they are cross contaminated with wheat and other common market grains and hence contain gluten or cause cross reaction for celiac or gluten sensitive people. So in essence this is the worst choice for most people who are lactose intolerant or gluten sensitive. It looks tasty though, I wish I could have that. But if I do my gut would balloon in a few hours to something akin to Jabba the Hutt.
***** still able to be cross reactive. This day and age alot of gluten can be found in all sorts of grains from rice, wheat (seitan) even oats and corn when processed and turned into a syrup.
Lark and Fox YAY :D I myself am going to use vanilla soy milk, or even almond milk with no yogurt in my own devised recipe...and yes to more fruit too! I like how you think :D
Lark and Fox Your insulin will spike with ALL that sugar and then in the afternoon you'll need a nap because you've crashed. A proper breakfast consists of high quality protein and fats.
Forest fields It depends on the brand. Most dairy yogurt is full of crap. But honestly, I don't usually eat soy. I sometimes make my own coconut and almond "milks," though.
***** Dairy is breast milk that comes from a cow! It's intended for baby cows, not humans! Think about it... Do humans spend more than two years of their lives drinking their mothers' breast milk? No. So why are we drinking another species' breast milk as adults?
***** Humans don't need to drink milk for more than two years, much less another species' milk. Do some research, my dear. The dairy industry directly contributes to the veal industry (baby cows are taken from their mothers so their milk can be used for human consumption) and indirectly to the meat industry. And don't make the plant argument. That's ridiculous and you know it!
***** You're right. Milk is a good source of calcium, containing 300mg per serving. The only problem is that like all animal protein, milk acidifies the body pH which in turn triggers a biological correction (the human body prefers a more alkaline state). So when an acidic food enters the body, calcium, an excellent acid neutralizer, is leached from the bones in order to help the body reach an alkaline state once again. So the very same calcium that our bones need to stay strong is utilized to neutralize the acidifying effect of milk. Why do you think so many westerners suffer from osteoporosis? It's not because they're eating too little dairy, that's for sure. Let's be real. Cow's milk is dirty fuel. Humans run so much more efficiently on plants, but historically in states of famine, I understand why we've turned to other animals' milk. But there's tons of calcium in a plethora of plant foods. Just Google it.
try doing this with a little chocolate whey protein powder and maybe cocoa powder, then whatver sweetener u want and its sooo so good and chocolatey!! and relatively healthy hahaha

You seem like a nice guy, thanks for the video! Peace and good luck with your channel.

That is a really neat measuring cup
I'm happy to see that you're choosing organic milk- a step in the right direction! :)
Any proof? That it . Or ganic?
Try organic hemp seeds they taste like almonds.
I love your measuring tools!!!!
Here is a great breakfast idea. Refrigerator Oatmeal - Breakfast
You lied I ran out of chia seeds you said forever! ??? Lol Yea the seeds have a slimy texture not a fan of them but rest is good
+Muscle Head I put chia seeds in our morning smoothies.
+helpfulnatural Thanks for the info on chia! I've been wanting to try it.
Can I say that I have always wanted to see how people eat these overnight oatmeal the next day, they never show it! thank you for the great video and showing us the taste test.
Jack, please do a video on Moroccan meatballs
Your personality is so adorable. God bless
Ch-ch-ch-chia! Who would have thought that the same seeds for a Chia Pet were actually good for you?
Womp wompp womppp….
I wonder if warming it up would still taste good? Def will be making this though!
Can the chia seeds be left out?
yes.
No they can't be left out if u leave them out the oatmeal would not be a thick yogurt feeling it would be a watery oatmeal
can tapioca be used instead of the seeds?
+sydney Magana i dont like mine thick, in fact mine is runny and i love it as much. no need for chia seeds if the person dont want to
sometimes strawberries can be disappointing but you can't go wrong with a banana ,great idea, thanks for the video.
After the refrigerator does it's thing, could I heat it just a little, I really don't like cold food? Would heating it interfer with the nutritional value? Thanks
Yeah the microwave burns the nutritional value out of it, 3.14 grams of "nutrition" for evey second
Shermstick lmmmk
Try cooking the oaths in a micro wave for 25 seconds and adding the fruit last in another bag cold .
You can heat it, I saw another video where they said they heated t in the morning.
Jace76
Oh yeah oatmeal taste better hot .
Thanks for this video, had it this morning with mango, strawberry and almonds and it was delicious!
My pleasure
Where's the 3 heaping tablespoons of mayo?
Chia is healthy. Thanks for the video. Super cool
I feel you though, I'd rather have seen HIS result in the thumbnail instead of something else entirely.
sagi pratyusha no. chia gels

Great with a half tablespoon cocoa powder, drizzle of honey and chopped strawberries. so good and so filling.
Okay I will try to get
Pure oatmeal is preferred, but most oatmeal on the market is quick oats, or heavily processed.
***** nobody asked you
Less than 1% of the population has a sensitivity to gluten. Fk off, hippy.
Tyler Selig oh did you write a paper on it now Einstein? lol
Marco Polo it's most likely not the gluten that's making you feel bloated. But please, stay away from my dirty carbs.
They look real going to try them could you use the oatmeal packs that have the maple sugar in it already
Ditch all that dairy, keep the chia seeds and quadruple the amount of fruit... then you're talking about a proper breakfast!
Ana Tavarez Then use quinoa
Ana Tavarez what can you recommend for a borderline diabetic?
E just me Dr.Eric Berg's videos
just made mango blueberry banana and pb and strawberry one can't wait to try one tomorrow
No no nooo, stay away from the dairy. This would be so much better with coconut milk and soy yogurt. And it is. I make it all the time.
Soy yogurt is usually full of crap though :(
Forest fields It depends on the brand.
Great idea! You are very enjoyable to watch and listen to.
try doing this with a little chocolate whey protein powder and maybe cocoa powder, then whatver sweetener u want and its sooo so good and chocolatey!! and relatively healthy hahaha
My mouth was watering , looks great , thank you for sharing , Gina ( England) x
He is adorable
