Also an add to the episode. I had my Ravin R10 restrung at Bass Pro. I noticed a small "nick" on one of the cams. I had not seen it prior to dropping it off, but no matter it easily could have been there. I decided better to be safe than sorry, lets replace it. Ravin put it under warranty and replaced both cams free of charge. Stating it was under warranty work. Another great Ravin story. Good hunting all.
I have been shooting a Centerpoint Mercenary for 2 years and have just stepped up to an R10. I am a longtime bow hunter who also has shoulder issues. When I am at my stand location the first thing I do is remove the quiver. I have taken 11 deer with the Centerpoint and never lost one. Also have not taken a shot at game over 45 yards. .
This was really informative. I broke my neck on 9/18 and thankfully I should have a full recovery. I bought an r10 to use during WI gun/archery season this year due to limited impact at the shoulder/neck. Thank you for the thorough review based on your experiences. It was extremely valuable to me.
New to crossbows. This was a great review of product in and of itself, but what was REALLY great is it made understand more about what are critical features to consider. THANKS guys.
Great review. I really don’t understand why they couldn’t make better lighted nocks. I know why they made a proprietary bolt though. So they can have a monopoly on it. But I bought lighted nocks off eBay that were like 14 bucks for 12 and another set I have lasted 3 years so far and you can turn them off easily with a button. Unfortunately they won’t fit the ravin bolts. It’s just crazy to have to pay that much for something that doesn’t work well.
I agree, Donjuan. I think I paid over $100 for 3 arrows with lighted nocks. Got to pay to play......as they say. Thanks for the comments and viewership.
Hi everyone. Really appreciate you making this our 3rd episode over 1000 views. Could not of done this without you. If you have ideas for an episode give us a shout. If you like what we are doing give our video's a like or subscribe to us on UA-cam or wherever you get your podcasts. Thanks so much.
I just purchased a R29 on sale for just a bit more than the total price you stated. I use to use a PSE crossbow. The pro I believe you missed with these ravins vs most other crossbows is the forward heaviness of other crossbows. The ravin's are well balanced. This DA does agrees with you on the quiver & crank placement is terrible. I designed and 3d printed a plate in the stock to mount the crank there with the button down. Easy to install and remove the crank now. Will use my old quiver on my backpack vs that thingy. The only cheap part of the setup. I understand for that stealth staking look. But even then I would want it on my pack for less forward weight.
Zin appreciate the comments. You are quite correct it is very well balanced and slightly forward. Would love it if you would share your modifications via picture to our e-mail. Love the idea.
Talk about the tree stand in the quiver when you're practicing do you have your quiver on when I get in my tree stands my quiver is not on my crossbow it is on the side of the tree this way I know that my hands are totally free on the front of that crossbow but I also use a stick that on a rail for my crossbow all of my crossbows have always had some sort of support for making sure that I'm 100% steady almost like the steady eddies and depending on which kind of blind I'm in will depend on if I use a tripod or a single pod or if I'm using the rail on the tree stand then my safety rail is what I have to crossbow sitting on And you should not only just practice from on level ground when you practice but you should also practice shooting from an elevated location so if you have tree in your backyard or make a small like off your patio 4 ft off the ground then you still are elevated and shooting at her known distance but you're still getting the concept You're not shooting flat across

HuntPat- I would ask you to check 2 items: 1.) Make sure the trigger mechanism is completely tethered back by the crank. You should hear and feel a click and the clutch will start to slip if you continue to crank. ( Be careful not to over crank) 2.) Once cocked make sure your bolt is securely inserted into the trigger mechanism. This takes some force and you will hear and feel a click. I am willing to bet this is the issue and I hope these suggestions resolve your issue. We would love to hear back on what you find.
Frozen the first ones with the r20 and I have a guy business and I bought three of them and the r20 is basically the same as the r10 except they shoot a little bit faster and the number one thing when you go about shooting distance if you don't practice then I don't care if you're shooting a BB gun you're not going to be any good with it I highly recommend what you are comfortable shooting at is what you are comfortable killing it and yes I'm comfortable shooting over 100 but I've only had to do that twice prior to that and most recent is has been under 80 except yesterday it was right at 80 and people need to understand that no matter what crossbow you have because I've had Excalibur I've had multiple brands scorpion I've had the Raven and out of all of them the Raven is the top of the line but your bolt is the number one part of the brain the crossbow can only do what the bolt is good enough to do and people have to understand if you don't balance your bolts and you don't check the weights of your boat it's just like a gun if you do just go and buy cheap ammo it's going to give you a cheap job if you purchase the higher crossbow bolts and you still weigh them before you purchase them and you make sure that they are all within your personal spectrum then you are looking at every shot same hole but it's not something that you go out and just pull the trigger in one day and then 6 months later you think about maybe getting it out once during the summer if you want to be extremely well with it then you need to practice and don't be foolish and give it to your kid and say here go practice without any supervision because that's a big mistake that's how people get hurt or worse yet they tear up your crossbow
It seems like a con when you decock and if your hand slips you can get injured I have a tenpoint titan decock and you can let go of the handle at any point and it just stays put
I haven't tried the new Ten Point de-cocking system, however I can only see engineering improvements moving forward. I agree, I would not be surprised to see Ravin adopt some type of rachet decocking system if they haven't already done so in their newer models. Myron, thanks of the comment and viewership!

I’ve had the R10 for several years with an upgraded Hawke scope. It has been a wonderful bow. It’s durable, super accurate and has all the speed & power for any big game situation in North America. My R10 was clocking 410 routinely. I’ve taken deer with it and the performance is like a death ray! By the way, I do not believe that you or anyone else has to justify why they shoot a crossbow. I’ve taken deer with a recurve and I’ve shot plenty of compounds. I like crossbows because they’re awesome! I’m not saying I am disabled or if I was 100%, I would use vertical bow. No way! There’s nothing wrong with me choosing crossbow. I prefer them.
Douglas great to hear that. Tim and I both believe that the R10 will be our last Crossbow we will own..... Any insight on changing the strings? Have you done it yet?
We live in Iowa, and you can only legally shoot a crossbow if you have a written doctor's note classifying that you have a disability and not able to use a regular bow. You then need to register with the Iowa DNR to have lifetime cross bow status. I appreciate your comments above!

This is my first time watching any videos from you guys, and the comment "Two dumbasses" made me spit my drink and bust out laughing!! 😂😂😂 Thanks for the honest video and good belly laugh 😆
You know what this was a really good video but I can't believe you guys would Nick pick on the lighted nocks and the quiver most people don't even hunt with the quiver on the crossbow I have a Ravin r10 and when I get up in the tree I take the quiver comes off so it's never in my way
Brian, valid point. I think every crossbow has some pluses and negatives. I am 3 years of hunting with my R10 and I love the size, accuracy and reliability!
Donald, both Tim and I have had these xbows for 4+ years and are located in Iowa. We have used these crossbows into January with some temperatures getting near 0F. At my age it wouldn't be if the crossbow could hold up, it would be if I could survive those temperatures! I would suggest contacting Ravin and asking them about their testing in cold temperatures and known issues. Good luck and keep warm.
Also I don't know if you're about to say anything about it but one of the cons about the Ravens those rollers at the end something that you will find out I know that you're not as probably what would you want to call it right to the t or anal about your equipment like if you were a sniper everything has to be perfect a perfectionist okay I am and when it comes to my hunting equipment the shooting ability but the rollers after every shot the ceramic rollers will get a little flat spot on them because it the arrow at the speed it's moving burns the ruler just so that you understand that those roller assemblies after every season I would highly recommend you replace it and if you shoot a lot like I do you replace it several times a year
Charles, first off thanks so much for your viewership. Some really good comments. I should have, but hadn't checked the rollers. You are quite right, that is something to monitor. Mine had some flat spots beginning. Thanks for the insight.
You know you made a lot of really good points I have got a couple of those Raven r10 crossbows and they are really nice the only thing that I wish would be better on them would be warranty because once you think about $1,500 into a crossbow in my opinion I think it should have a lifetime warranty it shouldn't have the same 5-year warranty like a center point or a 5-year warranty like a Barnett it's a lot nicer crossbow and I think they should stand behind it longer I mean any Mission crossbow has a lifetime warranty I just wish Raven did I would never I don't care what brand of crossbow it is like the art Raven R500 and the 10.505 and all those high dollar crossbows I would never spend that kind of money with a 5-year warranty never it's just not worth it they want to arm and a leg for these crossbows but they don't want to give you a good warranty so really at the end of actually the mission crossbow at the end of the day is a better deal because they give you a lifetime warranty for the money
Don, I cannot argue that a longer warranty would be nice. I also feel that the prices of some of these crossbows is bonkers, however they wouldn't keep making them if people stopped purchasing them. Good Ole supply and demand. We greatly appreciate your comments!

And also tell your personnel that you're talking to that your equipment is only as good as you want it to be if you want to buy a Raven and never do anything then you're going to have a basic knowledge of it and you're never going to shoot over 50 yards okay that's fine but if you take the time to actually learn what it can and cannot do and the maximum distance just like if you were shooting a rifle You knew the maximum yardage of your weapon You knew the maximum distance of accuracy that you were if you were shooting a seven mag or an odd 6 or 3030 you knew what the maximum distance that you comfortably could shoot if it was 500 yards if it was 200 yards you knew what the maximum effective range is so you make sure that you practice to know the maximum effective range for your crossbow and that's why I say you want to make sure that you practice practice practice and yes you will replace strings You will replace the rollers and you'll replace your cocking device because you're cocking device will wear out and when it starts slipping too much you will have to replace it so keep that in mind as well

Great crossbow but can it hold up in cold weather? Here in Alberta Canada alot of the deer season is in -20 weather an deep snow.

I will say there are no cons on a ravin r10. The company is amazing
It is a great crossbow
I take quiver off problem solved
Simple solution. I like it
