The only good thing about being 56 years old is that i was able to see Rory 11 times. He was a really hard working musician and toured the UK regularly and once told me he just loved being on stage. I have seen hundreds of bands in my life, Floyd, Stones etc none of them come close to Rory. The energy and sheer brilliance of the man could lift you for days. modest, unassuming and very sadly missed. \thank God for U tube
No matter how many times I view this, I remain astonished. Not only was Rory in complete command of the Strat, he was in complete command of his audience. Lawdy! His absence is keenly felt. Wish I had seen him live.

i too never got the chance to see him perform live. he, to me, was the world's greatest blues rock guitarist, there has been no one like him since..there is something about rory that makes u feel emotional when he plays that guitar, u feel like u r connected. thanks to yt, and the great folks who put up rory's songs and performances, i get to watch rory over n over again, never get tire of it. once a rory gallagher fan, always a rory gallager fan, loyal right till the end.
RoryAddict I saw Rory Gallagher first in Christchurch New Zealand 1975 He came on stage an just cranked tattooed Lady first up We all went crazy Great stuff
Saw Rory open for Nazareth and Deep Purple in Atlanta in the seventies. Guess who blew both headliners totally away? He and the drummer did a harmonica drum jam for fifteen minutes to thirty thousand people.
....with apologies to Roy Buchannon, Billy Gibbons, JDW, Duane, Jimi, M. Bloomfield, etc., etc...Rory was the best blues rock guitarist of all time. Charisma, soul, chops, songwriting..he was the best. I'm glad i had to chance to see him once ( mid 80's the Bayou Wash. DC ) before he left us.
Rory Gallagher only discovered him a month ago where the hell is he been hiding Rock and roll Hall of Fame for sure King of the fake endings never let you down!!
What a hellish energy, what e heavenly perfect play! I sit and cry that I will never experience anything similar in my life, it's real tragedy I will never hear live this brilliant Rorocaster sound and soul.
There are lots of guitar heroes out there, but few of them come across as natural and as credible as Rory does. This man has personality and a musical identity . This is true musician who writes and plays good stuff . There is something about these Irish guys because most of them really are great !
He makes everything look effortless.its a little silly to say but 1 of his songs seem to have 5 songs in them. his licks come out of nowhere and more than 1 thing happens at the same time.he sounds like 5 guitarist. thanx for this man
There's simply never been a better guitarist. The only ones who come close are the original Skynyrd guys, Allen Collins RIP. And both of them were so modest about their talent, big egos get in the way of ability. It's true, Rory is an addictive drug; like a best friend; direct contact through his amazing voice & guitar.
I was lucky enough to see Rory Gallagher in Germany in 1980 and Indianapolis in 1981 !! Rest in Peace Bro' cuz you rocked hard while you was alive !!!PEACE JIM
Again and again... I watch this and I am undone... Rory is simply unbelievable. There he goes, doin' that shit that only he can do. YIKES! I truly wish I had been there.
my junior year in high school......72/73? saw him at the LA Forum opening for Rod Stewart & the Faces (with Tetsu on bass). DESTROYED ROD STEWART. we were in shock......amazing show.
Robert Wright I just want to say thanks to you for the words that you wrote. You spoke the truth, you must have read my mind and may hundreds of thousands of other people who think the very same way as you do. Rory live a brilliant life playing his music to the people in his own way. In the history up humankind that was only Rory Gallagher, there will never be another Rory Gallagher, God only gave us one Rory and we are very grateful for that
Thanks for the responses. Its important to understand i am not talking about the music. Rory was the best musician i ever saw (eleven times). I am talking about the exitement that would begin on the morning of the gig, about his enthusiasm and energy and his closeness to the crowd, about his complete lack of pretence. these qualities are hard to find these days. BUT i have seen bands from asia who, like Rory seem to actually want to be on stage, Whatever your tastes it should be fun.
Close up and personal. That's the way to rock! No big screens, minimal lighting, just pure fucking rock and roll for the people. A lot of bands out there should watch this to see how it's done.

Rory obviously loved his audience, his gigs were magical. I'd have paid my last penny to go to one of his concerts rather than visit Satriani or the likes of him for free. Unfortunately Rory is no longer among us, but his music is immortal.
His album "blue prints" ran away from my hands with an express train, when I was a student. I chased it at the terminus. I paid 2500Yen against buying price 1500yen. It is what a wonderful story!!
Rory Gallagher was my adviser/ my teacher/ I went to the school of Rory Gallagher at a very young ago/ i found it so interesting and learned so much that I never left, Thanks A Million Rory
I had bought the album, "Rory Gallagher, The Story So Far". Liked it alot!!! Then I saw Rory live in '79 at the Armadillo World Headquarters (Austin,Tx)!!! He was so fantastic, i went out and bought Top Priority the next day. Then I saw him at the Austin Opera House in '85 (May 25th i think?). That was one hell of a show. Crowd of about a 1000 cause he played on the small side of the venue. He did the chicken hop twice during one song and fell of the stage at both ends! Man, he never missed a lick! The roadies put him back up there and he kept playing. Jokingly motioning to Gerry to do it too. Gerry shook his head no, with a big grin, what a hell of a show. He played Cardi's in Houston the next night, and, from what i hear, there's a bootleg record made. I would just LOVE to get my hands on that!!!! I bought alot of his albums after that.. R.I.P. Rory Gallagher! You are SO missed! Dennis 56years ATX
my 2 cents. Rory, Jeff, Jimmy, Eric, Stevie, et al, all had their roots in real, deep, deep blues. Everything kinda starts from there and then goes wherever...especially if there's talent involved. Rory was incredible for the reason he could make his guitar "cry or sing", just like the song says...

And, another thing to think about for those of you who are in Europe or Japan: this encore is not part of the commercial Montreux DVD. Why? I don't know! It's Rory at his best before an audience. Absolutely fabulous.
@ Robert Wright.....Exactly! Had he been a selfish man, he could have stayed at home in Ireland. It hurts me to read derogatory comments regarding Rory dying from drink and pills, drugs, call it what you will. You can bet your life they'd have been the very people to complain had he NOT travelled, delighting audiences worldwide. It always helps to know both sides of a story. Nothing meant more to Rory than getting his music TO the people and I believe he gained as much pleasure from performing as we did from watching his exhilarating shows. I know I'll be eternally grateful he did travel. RIP Rory.
Who cares if he did die from excess?..., I was happier as an alcoholic I can assure you ! When I was pissed I didn't give a fuck about my past or maybe I did but was too drunk to remember what made me drink in the first place.

@budway1942 I saw him first playing with "Taste" (a completely unknown band so far) in Heidelberg as opening act for John Mayall in the early seventies. He turned the "Stadthalle" upside down. After some encores Mayall started to play - and got yelled and booed off the stage! Mayall did something extraordinary and great: he called "The Taste" back to the stage and after some more songs Gallagher left the arena for Mayall again who started over as if nothing happened. CHAPEAU for both of them!
Not just live, but an encore, after a blinding performance! Basically at this point, Rory , the band, & the audience are havin' a party. Looks like a good time was had by all, wish I'd been there. :)
