Me too! A cute romance between Asha and Starboy, her having a personality, a couple of villains. That would be awesome and creative! Too bad we didn't get that ☹
Was the original plot ever explained? I thought we just knew certain aspects, ie the evil couple (which wasn't always the case, contrary to popular belief) and human Star being soulmates with Asha.
@@darriongeorge5137 Was that ever confirmed? I never saw that. That seems like it was purely fan speculation (not to mention Asha never resembles them).
@@OpticalSorcerer it was one of possible outcomes when they were writing the story it makes sense she wouldnt look like them since the designs wouldve change later down the line
Nah we went from Disney bangers like "poor unfortunate souls", "Hellfire", "Be prepared", and "Friends on the other side" to "I let you live here for free, and don't even charge you rent"
@@Misuu690 The messed up part is that while the lyrics/production sucked, the message was important: everyone was codependant on him and later on used him as a scapegoat.
They went from having people with a background on musical theatre who knew what the plot and the character arcs of the movie were writing the songs, to hiring pop music writers and not telling them anything about the movie they were writing the songs for, that's how we got here
@@OpticalSorcerer I think it's both, even with more information these song writers wouldn't know how to properly integrate the musical numbers and make them advance the plot the way someone who understands musicals would, the fact that they didn't tell them enough just makes it worse
5 things I'd change about this film: 1. Let the Anderson-Lopez team do the music. After "Gigantic" (set in Spain!) got cancelled, that should've been the obvious move. 2. Make Asha Romani as a reference to Esmeralda (plus Spain has the highest Romani population in Europe) and make Valentino a mouse in reference to Mickey. Plus let her keep her orange dress from concept art. 3. Use "The Pink," "The Fisherman and His Wife," and "The Sorercer's Apprentice" as inspiration. Let us have a real moral and Magnifico a grey antagonist (NOT a villain). 4. Make Star Amaya and Magnifico's son. It could be a parallel to Elsa, Rapunzel, and Hercules. I could totally see Magnifico as a Triton/Stefan figure. 5. Use 2D with 3D effects or vice versa instead of hybrid animation.
I think it'd be better if they showed both the flaws in Magnifico's and Asha's ideals where one was too controlling and paranoid, while the other was too carefree and shortsighted. That would be an interesting way to break away from the standard good guy, bad guy trope by having both the protagonist and antagonist have the same good intentions (bringing happiness of the people) but through different methods. Two sides of the same coin sort of deal.
@@nobodys_here07 The nuance would certainly be ideal for a century-in-the-making film. However, in recent films, Disney has struggled with portraying such themes properly.
Honestly, as someone who doesn't even watch Disney but does enjoy writing and stories in general, this movie is saddening. It had so much potential that ended up wasted because of corporate greed and laziness. At this point its wiser to stick to the rewrites made by people who genuinely care about Wish, be it on YT or fanfic sites.
Quirky protagonist, no romance. At last a villian, but they made him in a poorly way. The songs are so mid. It comes as a generic movie to non-disney fans, and as a bad movie to Disney fans
The worst part is that Disney themselves said Magnifico was there most horrific villain they ever made which is an insult to the more better and unique villains that came before him.
A strangely written movie with badly written songs and animation that looks unfinished would make it fail indeed. Not to mention the marketing was disingenuous, Asha was made out to look very selfish and King Magnifico very reasonable. It feels like with Wish, Disney forgot how to make an animated musical movie. It is mediocre at best.
The fact that they made King Magnifico the supposed “villain” more of a sympathetic character and Asha the supposed “hero” more of a disliked character due to the poor, confusing writing was what made the movie disliked and forgettable imo.
Exactly. In the beginning of the movie, King Magnifico worked very hard to get his magical powers and when he got it, he created a peaceful place where everyone could live in and granted the wishes that would benefit the kingdom but when it came to Asha, she sang a song about wanting to have a wish and it immediately got granted and at the end of the movie, she’s the new wish grantee which she did not deserve because she didn’t even do anything. She just asked a star and got everything while King Magnifico had to work hard for his own success yet he was defeated because of plot.
@@CreativelyBankrupt-gc4dw Yeah King Magnifico was actually a character who had depth and reason in the beginning before he somehow became a villain. Asha’s just a Mary-Sue.
@@CreativelyBankrupt-gc4dw And it could be SO EASY to fix it, just a single sentence of Magnifico saying he made up the tragic backstory to gain sympathy from gullible people and manipulating them to build/move into his kingdom where they're "safe" and voila.
And the fact they dare to call him the "most evil villain" when he doesn't even have free will to be one because he was CURSED! They messed up so badly on painting him as a villain that they had a book curse him to become one instead of him being evil from the start.
If only Disney could use the reception of this film to try and improve, and see what audiences actually want (you know, ORIGINAL or at CREATIVE STORIES) but with the stuff that was said about Pixar taking the wrong feedback and becoming safer, I’m not holding hope :(
Ususally the more you look into a Disney movie and the more you rewatch or relisten you uncover more and more little details that adds to the charm and makes me rewatchable imo. Any time I tried to look more deeply at wish I found bits that made no sense or detracted from the story, instead of making it better.
Imo right off the bat, the movie felt like... a stage play, for lack of a better word. Everything felt like it was said and done "because the script says so" rather than it happening organically, so instead of having fictional characters living their lives and seeing events unfold, it feels more like we're seeing animated actors playing out a story (which WOULD be an interesting perspective, but I'm pretty sure that wasn't their intention).
I, like some others, would have preferred the Starboy design and a love story with Asha. We haven’t had a cosmic love story from Disney and it would be something to bring in the older crowd and it missed that romantic spark that hasn’t been seen in a Disney film in a while But I think Wish suffered from just wrong creative choices. In other words, they had the ingredients, they just decided not to cook.
Last month at my first cosplay convention I saw a woman dressed up as Asha, she made the costume with her mum, the outfit was pretty good, she was also holding a Star plushie.
He's right about the songs, but I actually have two of them on Spotify: At All Costs (Demo) and This Wish Reprise. I mainly have them on there because you could interpret them in another context: we know of course that At All Costs was a love song, and the reprise? You can basically see that as the lovebirds battling the king and queen, but then Aster is fatally wounded, but uses the last of his power to kill Amaya, essentially sacrificing himself to save Asha and the kingdom. He's able to tell Asha that: "Don't worry about me, Asha. Just remember that I'll be watching you from afar.. And that i.. Love.. You.." And he dies in her arms, horrifying the bruised up girl. Just when everything's lost, especially since Magnifico is so heartbroken by Amaya's death, he declares that he'll make life miserable for the island, and is overjoyed that the boy wouldn't ever wake up again.. Asha softly starts singing the song, with everyone hearing, to bring him back. Eventually, everyone starts helping her, and just when it looks like the king is gonna kill his own daughter.. Aster is lifted into the air, and shines brighter than the sun. Magnifico slowly gets blinded by the glowing prince, and, not knowing where he's going, falls off the roof's ledge to his death, just as the song ends. Asha is also lifted up to the air, and she cradles Aster in her arms, hugging him close to her, as the light covers them both. When it finally dims, the couple are in gorgeous, sparkling outfits, and they're lowered to the ground. They spot each other, and Asha tearfully embraces him, with him hugging back, to the kingdoms delight, and before anyone knows what happens, Asha pulls back and kisses Aster, shocking the boy for a second before he kisses back, again t
I think part of the reason Wish got a such strong negative reaction was because it's supposed to be celebrating 100 years of Disney, and even if you don't dislike the movie, it is NOT worthy of 100 years of legacy for the company that made the first ever animated feature film. Not by a long shot. It feels like a paint-by-numbers imitation Disney movie with a ton of references shoehorned in rather than an organic creation that celebrates a century of art. But apparently the creation of this film was rushed and occurred during layoffs, so it's not surprising that everything including the visual style, writing, and musical numbers feel like they needed a lot more revisions and tweaking before being finalized.
People were expecting so much more. Better story, better songs, better visuals. And it didn’t deliver. The songs are FINE, but I understand people’s gripes with the lyrics that feel messy or like a first draft. The music also has a lack of understanding of what the story was supposed to be, which meant the songs and story clashed at some points.
Because Asha came off as a spoilt brat. Before he was corrupted Magnifico granted wishes that weren't vague and were safe. That is a good method, not to mention he was never cruel or tyrannical until she got involved.
@@Markus2E5I6I haven't seen the movie, but from what I've heard, Magnifico definitely sounds like he was in the right. You shouldn't grant every wish because some will be dangerous, don't even think you can grant every wish because some wishes will contradict each other. I think he's in the right to pick and choose
It's fine Magnifico was like a dad working hard to provide for his family. Plus, his rules on granting wishes is similar to Genie's rules in "Aladdin" 1992. And yet the movie wanted to convince the audience that Magnifico is a bad guy. He wasn't. Asha wasn't good because she threw a hissy fit because she was told "no" and asked for favors on the day of her job interview.
They should've kept the original concept. A shapeshifting, mute Star-Boy. A tragic romance where Asha falls in love with the star. A villianous power-couple. Star Boy could‘ve been this generation‘s Jack Frost. We. Were. Robbed! 😫 Imagine all the Asha x Star Boy-ffs we could’ve gotten.
I think it should trust its audience more. Look at the response when they revealed the original animation/art and revealed the asha/star boy storyline. People raved about it and hated the missed potential of it. There has been discourse of just making the female protagonist fall in love all of the time and I get that, but we experienced the lack of romance since Merida. People are not tired of romances. Look at the older Disney romances. They are still beloved and critiqued to this day. And look at Elemental. It became beloved when we saw what the story was actually about. The marketing failed on that one. They did not trust that the audience would not want to see a romance in a Pixar film, but the new positive reviews after more watched it speaks volumes. They like the romance and how it was personal to the person who wrote and animated it. The company just needed to trust that and take the risk. Wish had many great ideas that they did not utilize including the evil power duo along with star boy and asha. They felt people wouldn’t gravitate towards that, but that is not always true.
I will die on the hill that Magnifico should not have been the villain, especially after seeing Inside Out 2. I know I’m in the minority, but I get this man. I know childhood trauma, I know how it changes you. Every scene he’s in, with the exception of those where he’s clearly possessed, I relate to on such a deep meaningful level. I don’t know who was in charge of researching accurate depictions of psychology for Inside Out 2, but I would give anything for them to have taken that much care into how they handled Magnifico.
The story was just too "safe." it doesn’t really do anything new and it engaging, and the music was also really generic, for 100 year anniversary this was just really sad.
I can't speak to the marketing aspects of WISH. What I know is that the movie itself was terrible. I hated the music; it seemed like it was created to be played on the radio instead of in the MOVIE. We usually love movie music _because_ it feels like a character in the film. NONE of the music in WISH felt like a character. Some of the voice actors were terrible, too. And the story was pitiful and contrived. In a weird way, WISH feels like season 3 of Bridgerton; unfocused on the main points, and trying to shove so much in that nothing is fleshed out.
This movie deserved to failed for good. If disney didn't scrapp the original concept, the 2D animation and didn't hire julia michael, this movie would've been so much better.
I don’t blame Julia. She’s done great work in the past in other projects, but the direction she was under for this project was a mess (for example, she had 2 weeks to write a key plot song and they changed the plot multiple times after the song was “finalized”. Also At All Costs was supposed to be a love song frankensteined into whatever the hell it ended up being.) Plus, she’s a pop writer, not a storyteller. I blame the hire ups for setting her up to fail in the first place
I've seen Wish and I don't think it's the worst Disney animated movie ever either. (I'd say The Black Cauldron is worse and probably others I haven't seen. I'm not interested in watching every Disney animated movie ever.) However, I do think there's one specific way in which it could be described as the worst. The basic premises of most Disney animated movies are fine, not super interesting but not super terrible either. Whether they’re good or bad depends on the execution. With Wish, the very premise baffles me. Why does everyone want the king to “protect” their wishes? Has anyone ever thought, “Man, I love this wish! I just wish there were a way to protect it.” Protect them from what? Maybe it would work if this were treated as a necessary evil, a price you just have to pay to live in the kingdom but instead the characters at the beginning act like it’s a wonderful life changing experience. It just doesn’t make sense.
I wish this movie got a re-make (but make it 2d animated) use the concept arts like the villain couple and the romance between Asha and starboy and make him the prince of stars since yk he's the wishing star and they sing at all costs (demo) and make Asha have a dress change as a throwback to disney princesess
Here the biggest misstep, the song during the credits was supposed to be sung by the grandpa in the movie but was cut as a deleted scene. That song was a tribute to Disney 100 years
as a storyteller, when i watched the film, it felt like watching a car crash. i could see exactly what they had WANTED to do. and they completely and utterly Befuckened the execution. it was painful. other people have done "rewriting wish" videos where they completely miss the point, which is .... exactly what disneys directors did. theres a docuseries about the making of frozen 2 where they reveal that the films being made get screened and criticized by every other director the company can bring in, and the result is crash course changes. its horrifying to think about the implications. and wish is one of the results. it made me so sad
The only scene in the movie that I truly love is at all costs, that entire song and scene was so beautiful and I started to cry 😭 that was Disney magic. It gave vibes of when you wish upon a star.
The Reason Why Wish Failed at the Box Office is Because of Competition of movies. Disney Should Have Released it at the Same time as the celebration of Disney 100th in October instead of November and Open Earlier in Late September in Diffrent Countries. Look at Trolls Band Together. Before the November 17 Release, It opened Earlier in Late October. and it did Fine at the Box Office. Disney needs to release Their Disney Animated Movies in Other Release Dates. Not just Thanksgiving
That magic mirror origin was not good, the only thing I came from this reveal that it sorta improved was Terra’s campaign from kingdom hearts BBS it accidentally recontextualized his transformation into Xehnort’s Guardian Heartless.
Saying you like the songs was WILD to me. Every song in this movie besides maybe two of them were *travesties* of song writing. They didn’t know how to rhyme, they didn’t know how song cadence works, and they didn’t know which words or syllables to emphasize.
Again to the kingdoms delight. Everything is later cleared up, peace is restored to the kingdom, and its later revealed that Aster and Asha got married, albeit after a year of dating.. and everyone lives happily ever after!
“It’s psychotic! They keep creating new ways to celebrate mediocrity. But if someone is genuinely exceptional…” This is referring to Inside Out 2 being the exceptional and Wish being the mediocrity.
I'm a huge animation movie and show . I even love strange magic and the bee movie. Wish did nothing for me, I even slept in the middle of the movie. I didn't even finish it if you watched. Milkyymelodies, made a song called our message to the people. If you check the comments, people loved it even more than the movie because the song was amazing, starboy, and evil couple and a romance main character and star boy what original story of the movie but because they want they want to he safe . They cut alot of it out.
You know when Once Upon a Studio came out, a lot of Disney fans actually find this better than Wish for some reason, I really don't know why they find this worse than Strange World or Ralph Breaks the Internet, and possibly more disappointing than Raya and the Last Dragon, could be because they pander to the audience, which would explain the irony between Asha and Snow White, or it could be the bad writing.
Honestly- I’ve gotten to the point of waiting where the movie will go to Disney+ anymore because I don’t feel like spending the expensive money to go to the theater. I have to be REALLY excited to want to go to the theater. And I will purposely not watch trailers so I can be SURPRISED when I go to see it. Now my opinion of Wish: it was fine :/ I hate Valentino- he was super fucking annoying. He talked too much. I loved Chris Pine as a villain- his voice was wonderful- but he was also wasted. The writing was terrible and mixed which ruined his character. I hated Star- I guess mostly because I expected HIM to talk not the goat :/ but also I’ve seen concept art AFTER I watched the movie and was disappointed. Also I felt like the queen was sooo meh. She was fine but I hated how cardboardy her and the seven friends were. And as much as I loved her design and voice- not gonna lie- HATED ASHA. It’s the whole dumb “look at me! Aren’t I so quirky? Tee hee 🥺🤭” getting annoyed by the trope. I want a different character model. And please I’m begging Disney for a romance- or a Disney prince movie! I want a boy movie! Something fun and showing that boys can be soft and romantic too!
While I'm not a fan of Wish, I do cynically suspect that some (not all) were railing against it because that was the cool thing to do and not because it's the worst garbage ever or anything. Similarly, I suspect some (not all) are praising movies like The Black Cauldron or Atlantis: The Lost Empire because that's the cool thing to do and not because they're actually better than Wish.
The songs were good but they didn’t fit. “This wish” & “Knowing what I know now” feel off because it makes it sound like they lived terrible lives in the kingdom but their lives were great up till then
4:45 i didn't see it, mostly bc i didn't really recognize it as someone that existed until i started seeing people makes videos talking about why it was such a failure. I did, however, have a couple friends who said they didn't see it bc the mix of 2-D and 3-D they saw on the trailers was giving them uncanny valley
I just hope that in the movie of Shrek 5, once Disney buys DreamWorks, all The Official Disney Princes and all The Official Disney Princesses appear, especially the most important character in the movie of The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea, Melody, The Daughter of Prince Eric and Princess Ariel, with her best friends Zephyr, Tip, Dash, Kiera and Catalina, and besides, they will be the new main characters of the movie of Shrek 5 so that they help Shrek, Princess Fiona, Donkey, Dragon, Puss in Boots, Kitty Softpaws, Perrito, Dulcinea, The Three Diablos, Goldilocks, The Three Bears, Prince Lancelot, Princess Tiffany, King Artie, Princess Guinevere, The Children of Shrek and Princess Fiona: Fergus, Farkle and Felicia, The Children of Donkey and Dragon: Bananas, Parfait, Peanut, Eclair, Coco and Debbie and The Others to defeat Rumpelstiltskin, Death, Drizella Tremaine, all The Official Villains of Disney and all The Official Villains of DreamWorks, as Queen Grimhilde, Lady Tremaine, Captain Hook, Hades, Maleficent, Cruella de Vil, Marina del Rey, Ursula, Gaston LeGume, Jafar, John Ratcliffe, Shan Yu, Yzma, Dr. Facilier, Zhan Tiri, Judge Claude Frollo, Mother Gothel, Tamatoa, Drago Bludvist, Grimmel The Grisly, Mor'du, King Runeard, Prince Hans, Pitch Black, Dr. Zara, Queen Nerissa, King Magnifico, Rapunzel (Shrek) and Morgana, and to prevent Rumpelstiltskin, Death, all The Official Villains of Disney and all The Official Villains of DreamWorks from ruling and destroying all The Multiverse Forever, especially The Kingdom of Far Far Away, Shrek along with his wife named Princess Fiona will need help from their new friends which are all The Official Disney Princes and all The Official Disney Princesses, as Prince Florian, Princess Snow White, Prince Charming, Princess Cinderella, The Baker, Anastasia Tremaine, Prince Philip, Princess Aurora, Prince Eric, Princess Ariel, Prince Adam, Princess Belle, Prince Aladdin, Princess Jasmine, Prince John Smith, Princess Pocahontas, Prince Li Shang, Princess Fa Mulan, Prince Naveen, Princess Tiana, Prince Flynn Rider, Princess Rapunzel, Varian, Cassandra, Maui, Queen Moana Waialiki, Hiccup Haddock, Princess Merida, Kristoff Bjorgman, Queen Anna, Jack Frost, Princess Elsa, Miguel Rivera, Princess Raya, Walter Beckett, Princess Mirabel Madrigal, Jin, Yi, Connor, Ruby Gillman, Starboy, Princess Asha, Mateo, Queen Elena, Prince Desmond, Princess Amber, Prince James, Princess Isabel, Prince Hugo, Princess Sofia, Namaari, The Futuristic Four, The Other Six Princesses of The Kingdom of Atlantica and Melody, but actually, Melody is The First and Only that she is not a True Official Disney Princess, because Melody made her debut in the movie of The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea and it is also because she is The First and Only Daughter of an Official Disney Princess, but Shrek, Princess Fiona, Donkey, Dragon, Puss in Boots, Kitty Softpaws, Perrito, Dulcinea, The Three Diablos, Goldilocks, The Three Bears, Prince Lancelot, Princess Tiffany, King Artie, Princess Guinevere, The Children of Shrek and Princess Fiona: Fergus, Farkle and Felicia, The Children of Donkey and Dragon: Bananas, Parfait, Peanut, Eclair, Coco and Debbie and The Others also need Melody's help to protect and save all The Multiverse, especially Their Kingdom of Far Far Away away from Rumpelstiltskin, Death, all The Official Villains of Disney and all The Official Villains of DreamWorks, because Melody is The Daughter of Prince Eric and Princess Ariel, but also The Death of Queen Lillian, because since her husband named King Harold passed away in the movie of Shrek 3, she has felt heartbroken and that caused her own death in her Kingdom of Far Far Away, and all The Inhabitants of The Kingdom of Far Far Away are saddened by The Death of Queen Lillian, because now she is with her husband named King Harold in heaven, and now they have lost their queen, that means now The Kingdom of Far Far Away needs a new queen and King Artie said that his love interest, girlfriend, fiancée and former classmate from Worcestershire school called Princess Guinevere would be the one to be The New Queen of Far Far Away, so King Artie decided to return to his old school called Worcestershire along with Shrek, with his older cousin Princess Fiona, with Donkey, with Dragon, with Puss in Boots, with Kitty Softpaws, with Perrito, with Dulcinea, with The Three Diablos, with Goldilocks, with The Three Bears, with The Children of Shrek and Princess Fiona: Fergus, Farkle and Felicia, with The Children of Donkey and Dragon: Bananas, Parfait, Peanut, Eclair, Coco and Debbie and with the Others to meet again with their friends from their school who are actually Prince Lancelot, Princess Tiffany and his love interest, girlfriend and fiancée Princess Guinevere to take them back to his Kingdom of Far Far Away, and also The Romance of all The Official Disney Princes and all The Official Disney Princesses, especially The Romance of Maui and Queen Moana Waialiki, The Romance of Hiccup Haddock and Princess Merida, The Romance of Jack Frost and Princess Elsa, The Romance of Varian and Cassandra, The Romance of Starboy and Princess Asha, The Romance of Prince Lancelot and Princess Tiffany and The Romance of King Artie and Princess Guinevere, because I think that Maui will be Queen Moana Waialiki's love interest, boyfriend and fiancé, while Hiccup Haddock will be Princess Merida's love interest and boyfriend, Princess Tiffany will be Prince Lancelot's love interest, girlfriend and fiancée and Princess Guinevere will be King Artie's love interest, girlfriend and fiancée, because Queen Moana Waialiki is going to fall in love with Maui, Princess Merida is going to fall in love Hiccup Haddock, Princess Tiffany is going to fall in love with Prince Lancelot and Princess Guinevere is going to fall in love with King Artie, but they don't know how to tell them their feelings towards them and neither how to win their hearts, because every time Queen Moana Waialiki gets too close to Maui when it comes to true love, she gets very nervous with him, while which in the case of Princess Merida is also the same, because whenever Princess Merida gets too close to Hiccup Haddock when it comes to true love, she also gets very nervous with him, in the case of Princess Tiffany it is also the same, because whenever Princess Tiffany gets too close to Prince Lancelot when it comes to true love, she also gets very nervous around him, and in the case of Princess Guinevere too, because every time Princess Guinevere gets too close to King Artie when it comes to true love, she also gets very nervous around him, but luckily for them, Princess Fiona will help Queen Moana Waialiki to win The Heart of Maui, also Princess Merida to win The Heart of Hiccup Haddock, also Princess Tiffany to win The Heart of Prince Lancelot and also Princess Guinevere to win The Heart of King Artie, and I also want that Jack Frost will be Princess Elsa's love interest and boyfriend and Varian will be Cassandra's love interest and boyfriend, because Jack Frost leaves fall in love with Princess Elsa, but he doesn't know how to tell her his feelings and how to win her heart, because every time Jack Frost gets too close to Princess Elsa when it comes to true love, he gets very nervous with her, because Varian leaves fall in love with Cassandra, but he doesn't know how to tell her his feelings and how to win her heart, because every time Varian gets too close to Cassandra when it comes to true love, he gets very nervous with her, but fortunately for they, Shrek will help Jack Frost to win The Heart of Princess Elsa and also Varian to win The Heart of Cassandra, except Melody, The Daughter of Prince Eric and Princess Ariel, because she doesn't need a love interest, but also The Rivalry of King Artie and Queen Anna because they both want to compete in a challenge to see who is The Best Ruler of a Kingdom, because both want to do what is best for Their Own Kingdom, because King Artie wants to do the best for his Kingdom of Far Far Away because now he is The New King of Far Far Away and Queen Anna wants to do the best for her Kingdom of Arendelle because now she is The New Queen of Arendelle, but at the end, King Artie and Queen Anna become best friends in the world, because at the end, they both learned from their mistakes that they have made since their challenge to compete to see who is the best ruler of a Kingdom, and that at the end, King Artie and Princess Guinevere see their first true love kiss and that they become a romantic couple, just like Prince Lancelot and Princess Tiffany, and also that at the end of the movie of Shrek 5, Shrek becomes The New Leader of The Official Disney Princes and Maui, Hiccup Haddock, Kristoff Bjorgman, Jack Frost, Varian, Jin, Connor, The Baker, Starboy, Mateo, Prince Desmond, Prince James, Prince Hugo, Prince Lancelot and King Artie become The New Official Members of The Official Disney Princes, while Princess Fiona becomes The New Leader of The Official Disney Princesses and Queen Anna, Princess Elsa, Cassandra, Yi, Ruby Gillman, Anastasia Tremaine, Princess Asha, Queen Elena, Princess Amber, Princess Isabel, Princess Sofia, Goldilocks, Namaari, The Other Six Princesses of The Kingdom of Atlantica, Princess Tiffany and Princess Guinevere become The New Official Members of The Official Disney Princesses and that one day, Princess Tiffany will be The Wife of Prince Lancelot and that they have a family in the future, and that also Princess Guinevere is The Wife of King Artie, that they also have a family and that she becomes The New Queen of Far Far Away in The Future.
The thing is here is how wish was made So the writers wrote the script but Disney didn’t like it so they threw it in the trash 🚮 But they had an idea 💡 asked ChatGPT to write it and they did so they told the writers ✍️ on the create a Second version of the script but from ChatGPT and thus they wrote it and the animators didn’t even had time to polish the Animation so they rushed it and Disney liked it 👍 and that is how Disney wish was born
Wish is a phenomenal movie I gave it a 9/10 I agree with you explaining why it failed tbh it’s a fun movie the story and characters are somewhat throwbacks to the early eras where Disney characters weren’t that interesting but iconic decades laters so imo I think this was the intention of Wish it gets too much hate imo
I really didn't like Wish. Watched it on Disney plus and will never watch it again. The story and jokes were dumb and very childish. I know it's a kids movie, but you should be able to enjoy it as a family
People need to just give this film another chance and here's why this WILL become a underrated classic in the future: 1. It's strange seeing how this film was well received in-person than the internet. I mean i talked to people in real life and they enjoyed this. 2. The film has a 81% audience score on RT, but people claim the critics (Who also gave that Netflix movie from 2020 that i can't speak of higher ratings) are right yet praise Video Game Movies or Venom for being "Critics are wrong." When are the critics wrong on Disney or Warner Films? i know Rotten Tomatoes isn't acurate but how come UA-cam reviewers would only agree with the audiences if its Mario or FNAF but not a Disney or Warner movie? (ex is the Tom and Jerry film from 2021.) Like maybe the Internet is more biased? UA-camrs even attacked Kung Fu Panda 4 and even Netflix's Avatar (both things you enjoyed along with Wish, and it's off since Avatar Netflix was well-received by fans but has dumb Video Essays on why it's a "failure" on the internet.) 3. The haters are hyprocrites, they claim they hate the references but PRAISED THE Mario movie and even Chip N Dale RR for the same crap! I mean.. Come on guys! This film is as good as the Mario movie while Chip n D RR was a disappointment compared to Roger Rabbit. 4. They hate it for not having romance... Does Romanace HAVE to always be in a Disney film?! 5. They asked for a original film yet they act like this, which is disrespectful. 6. They call this film unfinished, Uuh it's Spider-Verse animation! How is it unfinished? 7. The AI claims are false. 8. They hate this film for "having same Disney tropes." Bruh, THIS IS how Disney films from the past were like and they used it to celebrate the Company's 100th anniversy. can't you just accept that? 9. They claim the songs are bad... Uuh what the hell are you on?! the songs are amazing! Sorry, but Wish's reviews are the reason why i don't trust Movie critics on UA-cam anymore. At least you and AniMat gave out honest ratings. But if i was you guys.. Give this film a watch on Disney+ and just apperciate it for what it is.
another reason the soundtrack sucks so bad is that it's a musical... but they hired pop music producers not to say that pop is an inferior genre or anything, but it's just the wrong people for the wrong job. plus the fact that julia michaels, the songwriter, was given like???? 3 months or something to write all the songs, and she wasn't even given asha's name. she was just told to write a song for "protagonist A who is cheerful hardworking etc" which just goes to show how much the execs cared about telling a story and their interest in their own characters
I get what you're saying on the style chosen. It took me a LONG while to watch TMNT 2012 series, Miraculous Ladybug and TMNT: Mutant Mayhem b/c of the 3D or comic book rendition - the story in each made up for it, BUT I didn't watch any of them as soon as they premiered. Why? Already stated it.
Asha should be the villain in this movie, her goal is so selfish and bad, like she does all of the mess that happens in the movie…just because magnifico didn’t granted her grandpa wish, which was “make inspirational music” COULDN’T HE JUST TRY TO MAKE MUSIC BY HIMSELF???? Also there’s like a scene where asha and magnifico are singing and asha sees her grandpa wish and she ignores all of the town wishes so she can get to his grandpas, meanwhile magnifico is giving all his attention on the towns wishes, now the movie is trying to tell us that asha is good and magnifico is bad 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️ I swear if tiana and Asha meet someday, she would slap Asha face in an instant
Wish's visual style is terrible. It looks like a straight to dvd knockoff princess movie. And I don't like how the characters move. I just don't like looking at it.
When I first saw the trailer for Wish and every promotion for the movie after, I never once noticed a plot. They never even so much as hinted about the plot. Now, if a movie does that, it means the film is crap, and they know it, or it means they can't reveal any plot because anything they reveal would give too much away. If anyone else would have released Wish, I wouldn't even have given them the time of day, but this was DISNEY. Obviously, they couldn't reveal the plot because it HAD to stay secret. Like the Spider-Man No Way Home movie with all three Spider-Men. This movie was so disappointing. I respect your opinion on it, but I disagree with your perspective. This was the kind of review you would give a smaller company trying to compete with Disney, a company that tried to follow Disney's formula but tried a bit too hard. Being gentle and relaxing expectations and standards is fine for a company trying to make a name for itself, not for a billion-dollar company that should have known better, or they should at least hire some people who were going to give them honest opinions. I hated the music. I felt nothing like Disney, and I thought none of it was catchy. I didn't even LIKE Moana or Frozen, but best believe I was still singing the music whether I wanted to or not. You couldn't escape it, and this movie didn't have that magic, as evidenced by its fall from the music charts. And speaking of magic, for a movie about wishes it was devoid of any of that old Disney magic that gave films their spark. This movie was bland and unoriginal. Lastly, my big gripe no one else has mentioned is the treatment of Magnifico. It's established that he isn't bad and cares about the people. Because of past death, loss, and trauma, he becomes too vigilant in his quest to create a peaceful world. Later, he ends up using a book with dark magic that he was warned against; it corrupts his purpose and twists him. But remember, he's not a bad man, and he's being influenced, he's being used, and he needs help. Even his wife doesn't recognize what the book has made him become. The movie ends not seeing Magnifico as a character who was done wrong and needed support (from all the people HE supported), but as someone who might as well of been evil the entire time for what it was worth. For a company that loves happy endings, redemption, mercy, and understanding in its movies, it missed a great opportunity. I wasn't happy to see everyone, even his wife, turn on him and not care to help him. They had a damn star! Why not just wish he wasn't possessed? Save him and the kingdom. This movie was such a disappointment.
Why did Wish fail? Well... Nobody wants to watch crappy movies. Its mediocre in every way, and fails everything it tried to do... But on top of everything else, its _Disney's 100 year anniversary celebration._ If they had released this movie at any other time it would just flop and fade into obscurity. But since this was _supposed_ to be special, it amplifies its failure 100-fold.
It’s not that hard to hire people who care about the product they’re creating. I guess the trouble comes from the actual executives sticking their nose in everything when their input is consistently proved to be detrimental to big projects. Maybe just stop changing around good ideas to insert poorly constructed ones in their stead? Maybe learn from the feedback from the numerous projects that have lost your company millions? Obviously something isn’t right when you’ve become known for putting out box office bombs and complete series fodder/padding for dead properties.
Ima be honest Wish is a movie that I feel like is better then what people give credit for. I don’t think it’s amazing, but I do think it’s pretty good. It has a good heart.
I know why Wish failed. Because they putted Ichabod in the end credits to represent The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr Toad instead of Mr Toad. Even though Mr Toad is more popular than him. Please answer me.
I wished the original plot was the movie, would had been alot better.
@OpticalSorcerer those are some of the aspects but like Asha was their daughter and with both parents were evil so the vibe felt different
Nah we went from Disney bangers like "poor unfortunate souls", "Hellfire", "Be prepared", and "Friends on the other side" to
"I let you live here for free, and don't even charge you rent"
*Hellfire* is one of THE greatest villain songs ever!
@@Misuu690 The messed up part is that while the lyrics/production sucked, the message was important: everyone was codependant on him and later on used him as a scapegoat.
They went from having people with a background on musical theatre who knew what the plot and the character arcs of the movie were writing the songs, to hiring pop music writers and not telling them anything about the movie they were writing the songs for, that's how we got here
@@TabbyeLynne The "not telling them anything" was the main issue more than the "pop music writers" part.
@@OpticalSorcerer I think it's both, even with more information these song writers wouldn't know how to properly integrate the musical numbers and make them advance the plot the way someone who understands musicals would, the fact that they didn't tell them enough just makes it worse
5 things I'd change about this film:
I would make asha the true villain
I think it'd be better if they showed both the flaws in Magnifico's and Asha's ideals where one was too controlling and paranoid, while the other was too carefree and shortsighted.
That would be an interesting way to break away from the standard good guy, bad guy trope by having both the protagonist and antagonist have the same good intentions (bringing happiness of the people) but through different methods. Two sides of the same coin sort of deal.
@@nobodys_here07 The nuance would certainly be ideal for a century-in-the-making film. However, in recent films, Disney has struggled with portraying such themes properly.
Use both 2d and 3d since this movie was supposed to be an 100th anniversary gift and Disney has come a long way with 2d and 3d
@@SlushysSecret Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Use one for most of the movie and then the other for special effects/magic.
Never go to the wrong fanfics, in other words… the weird fanfics (I’m not surprised this movie falls into that category)
Quirky protagonist, no romance. At last a villian, but they made him in a poorly way. The songs are so mid.
It comes as a generic movie to non-disney
fans, and as a bad movie to Disney fans
The worst part is that Disney themselves said Magnifico was there most horrific villain they ever made which is an insult to the more better and unique villains that came before him.
Why does everyone want Romance so bad?
@@blazingblaze250 toxic people and idiots who don't understand the movie's beauty
No.. more like:
1. The film is a great movie for Disney fans.
2. Fun family film for non fans.
@@DisneyGirl2004 yeah, I don't think many people would agree with you on this... But I respect it
A strangely written movie with badly written songs and animation that looks unfinished would make it fail indeed. Not to mention the marketing was disingenuous, Asha was made out to look very selfish and King Magnifico very reasonable. It feels like with Wish, Disney forgot how to make an animated musical movie. It is mediocre at best.
That why I want a re write and asha become the villain
@@hayleymcgough8567I LOVE THAT CONCEPT!!
@@hayleymcgough8567I LOVE THAT CONCEPT!!
@@hayleymcgough8567 she was the villain after all
The fact that they made King Magnifico the supposed “villain” more of a sympathetic character and Asha the supposed “hero” more of a disliked character due to the poor, confusing writing was what made the movie disliked and forgettable imo.
They messed up so badly on painting him as a villain that they had a book curse him to become one instead of him being evil from the start.
he was written to be the hero so why change him? that was their mistake
The ironic part is that people only got that charm from rewatching scenes FROM THE DELETED VERSION.
I wish that Star was that boy. If he was, then literally soul mate would have been so cute.
I, like some others, would have preferred the Starboy design and a love story with Asha. We haven’t had a cosmic love story from Disney and it would be something to bring in the older crowd and it missed that romantic spark that hasn’t been seen in a Disney film in a while
But I think Wish suffered from just wrong creative choices.
It should have been an easy win
Those who say that the movie seems like a self-aware critique of modern Disney, might have a point
A concept as interesting as that of wishes should not be wasted in this way 🤦.
My problem is ..I liked Magnifco more than Asha. Sort of wanted him to win instead. And thats not good is it?
Because Asha came off as a spoilt brat. Before he was corrupted Magnifico granted wishes that weren't vague and were safe. That is a good method, not to mention he was never cruel or tyrannical until she got involved.
Yeah it's bad when ppl root for the "villain" instead of the hero.
It's fine
Magnifico was like a dad working hard to provide for his family.
The original story with the shapeshifter star has more fans than the actual movie
They felt people wouldn’t gravitate towards that, but that is not always true.
it failed because King Magnifico is right and is a good guy but was treated like he's the worst, people got angry
It’s definitely not the worst movie disney had ever put out but it is the most average one they’ve done this decade.
@@the_piano_nerd4960 it's jennifer lee's fault.
I miss the 90s and early 2000 era of disney
Me too. I grew up in the mid-late 2000s early 2010s and disney was great.
It's funny but also kinda sad that Disney’s 100 year anniversary movie is beaten out critically by a Doraemon movie.
That song was a tribute to Disney 100 years
The reason why this scored so low is a lot of people (from what I understand) find boring and bland movies worse than generally terrible ones.
as a storyteller, when i watched the film, it felt like watching a car crash. i could see exactly what they had WANTED to do. and they completely and utterly Befuckened the execution. it was painful. other people have done "rewriting wish" videos where they completely miss the point, which is .... exactly what disneys directors did. theres a docuseries about the making of frozen 2 where they reveal that the films being made get screened and criticized by every other director the company can bring in, and the result is crash course changes. its horrifying to think about the implications. and wish is one of the results. it made me so sad
That magic mirror origin was not good, the only thing I came from this reveal that it sorta improved was Terra’s campaign from kingdom hearts BBS it accidentally recontextualized his transformation into Xehnort’s Guardian Heartless.
it was just a reference he's not the magic mirror, that's like saying the 7 friends of asha are the dwarves
If it was me I would’ve made asha the villain and mangifico the hero , the first Disney princess that is a cold hearted villain
Fair points and opinions,
I hope we get something worthwhile more over than not.
Oooo new Disney video. Love your videos.
I think this would be a good idea doing the episode heart hunter from season 3 of miraculous ladybug
“It’s psychotic! They keep creating new ways to celebrate mediocrity. But if someone is genuinely exceptional…”
This is referring to Inside Out 2 being the exceptional and Wish being the mediocrity.
Something fun and showing that boys can be soft and romantic too!
fun fact:my friends called the bear a pedophile.

Princesses, especially The Romance of Maui and Queen Moana Waialiki, The Romance of Hiccup Haddock and Princess Merida, The Romance of Jack Frost and Princess Elsa, The Romance of Varian and Cassandra, The Romance of Starboy and Princess Asha, The Romance of Prince Lancelot and Princess Tiffany and The Romance of King Artie and Princess Guinevere, because I think that Maui will be Queen Moana Waialiki's love interest, boyfriend and fiancé, while Hiccup Haddock will be Princess Merida's love interest and boyfriend, Princess Tiffany will be Prince Lancelot's love interest, girlfriend and fiancée and Princess Guinevere will be King Artie's love interest, girlfriend and fiancée, because Queen Moana Waialiki is going to fall in love with Maui, Princess Merida is going to fall in love Hiccup Haddock, Princess Tiffany is going to fall in love with Prince Lancelot and Princess Guinevere is going to fall in love with King Artie, but they don't know how to tell them their feelings towards them and neither how to win their hearts, because every time Queen Moana Waialiki gets too close to Maui when it comes to true love, she gets very nervous with him, while which in the case of Princess Merida is also the same, because whenever Princess Merida gets too close to Hiccup Haddock when it comes to true love, she also gets very nervous with him, in the case of Princess Tiffany it is also the same, because whenever Princess Tiffany gets too close to Prince Lancelot when it comes to true love, she also gets very nervous around him, and in the case of Princess Guinevere too, because every time Princess Guinevere gets too close to King Artie when it comes to true love, she also gets very nervous around him, but luckily for them, Princess Fiona will help Queen Moana Waialiki to win The Heart of Maui, also Princess Merida to win The Heart of Hiccup Haddock, also Princess Tiffany to win The Heart of Prince Lancelot and also Princess Guinevere to win The Heart of King Artie, and I also want that Jack Frost will be Princess Elsa's love interest and boyfriend and Varian will be Cassandra's love interest and boyfriend, because Jack Frost leaves fall in love with Princess Elsa, but he doesn't know how to tell her his feelings and how to win her heart, because every time Jack Frost gets too close to Princess Elsa when it comes to true love, he gets very nervous with her, because Varian leaves fall in love with Cassandra, but he doesn't know how to tell her his feelings and how to win her heart, because every time Varian gets too close to Cassandra when it comes to true love, he gets very nervous with her, but fortunately for they, Shrek will help Jack Frost to win The Heart of Princess Elsa and also Varian to win The Heart of Cassandra, except Melody, The Daughter of Prince Eric and Princess Ariel, because she doesn't need a love interest, but also The Rivalry of King Artie and Queen Anna because they both want to compete in a challenge to see who is The Best Ruler of a Kingdom, because both want to do what is best for Their Own Kingdom, because King Artie wants to do the best for his Kingdom of Far Far Away because now he is The New King of Far Far Away and Queen Anna wants to do the best for her Kingdom of Arendelle because now she is The New Queen of Arendelle, but at the end, King Artie and Queen Anna become best friends in the world, because at the end, they both learned from their mistakes that they have made since their challenge to compete to see who is the best ruler of a Kingdom, and that at the end, King Artie and Princess Guinevere see their first true love kiss and that they become a romantic couple, just like Prince Lancelot and Princess Tiffany, and also that at the end of the movie of Shrek 5, Shrek becomes The New Leader of The Official Disney Princes and Maui, Hiccup Haddock, Kristoff Bjorgman, Jack Frost, Varian, Jin, Connor, The Baker, Starboy, Mateo, Prince Desmond, Prince James, Prince Hugo, Prince Lancelot and King Artie become The New Official Members of The Official Disney Princes, while Princess Fiona becomes The New Leader of The Official Disney Princesses and Queen Anna, Princess Elsa, Cassandra, Yi, Ruby Gillman, Anastasia Tremaine, Princess Asha, Queen Elena, Princess Amber, Princess Isabel, Princess Sofia, Goldilocks, Namaari, The Other Six Princesses of The Kingdom of Atlantica, Princess Tiffany and Princess Guinevere become The New Official Members of The Official Disney Princesses and that one day, Princess Tiffany will be The Wife of Prince Lancelot and that they have a family in the future, and that also Princess Guinevere is The Wife of King Artie, that they also have a family and that she becomes The New Queen of Far Far Away in The Future.
The thing is here is how wish was made
So the writers wrote the script but Disney didn’t like it so they threw it in the trash 🚮
But they had an idea 💡 asked ChatGPT to write it and they did so they told the writers ✍️ on the create a
Second version of the script but from ChatGPT and thus they wrote it and the animators didn’t even had time to polish the
Animation so they rushed it and Disney liked it 👍 and that is how Disney wish was born
Maybe it fails because of the boring side characters or the awful pop songs? Maybe it was the lame climax or the annoying talking goat? Hard to tell 😂
This movie and Lightyear felt like it was made out of obligation.
Descendants 4 is out smarty pants
I really didn't like Wish. Watched it on Disney plus and will never watch it again.
The story and jokes were dumb and very childish. I know it's a kids movie, but you should be able to enjoy it as a family
People need to just give this film another chance and here's why this WILL become a underrated classic in the future:
UA-camrs even attacked Kung Fu Panda 4 and even Netflix's Avatar (both things you enjoyed along with Wish, and it's off since Avatar Netflix was well-received by fans but has dumb Video Essays on why it's a "failure" on the internet.)
"Just appreciate it for what it is" that's what they always say. This is supposed to be a 100 yrs anniversary movie not some regular movie. 🙄🙄
another reason the soundtrack sucks so bad is that it's a musical... but they hired pop music producers
not to say that pop is an inferior genre or anything, but it's just the wrong people for the wrong job. plus the fact that julia michaels, the songwriter, was given like???? 3 months or something to write all the songs, and she wasn't even given asha's name. she was just told to write a song for "protagonist A who is cheerful hardworking etc" which just goes to show how much the execs cared about telling a story and their interest in their own characters
I get what you're saying on the style chosen. It took me a LONG while to watch TMNT 2012 series, Miraculous Ladybug and TMNT: Mutant Mayhem b/c of the 3D or comic book rendition - the story in each made up for it, BUT I didn't watch any of them as soon as they premiered. Why? Already stated it.
That’s a really shallow reason tbh
@blazingblaze250 Visuals being unappealing can be a huge turn off when consuming visual media. A lot of people wouldn’t call that shallow.
Asha had clearly never heard of the monkeys paw 😅
i'll just say that they made a mary poppins reference and that makes me happy
Asha should be the villain in this movie, her goal is so selfish and bad, like she does all of the mess that happens in the movie…just because magnifico didn’t granted her grandpa wish, which was “make inspirational music” COULDN’T HE JUST TRY TO MAKE MUSIC BY HIMSELF????
Also there’s like a scene where asha and magnifico are singing and asha sees her grandpa wish and she ignores all of the town wishes so she can get to his grandpas, meanwhile magnifico is giving all his attention on the towns wishes, now the movie is trying to tell us that asha is good and magnifico is bad 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
I swear if tiana and Asha meet someday, she would slap Asha face in an instant
Wish's visual style is terrible. It looks like a straight to dvd knockoff princess movie. And I don't like how the characters move.
I just don't like looking at it.
I really liked it sure the animation was not all that but I still enjoyed watching it
And People Call Ruby Gilman Teenage Kraken Mediocre
This Is Even Worse In 2023 Alone
It’s not mediocre, it’s bad!
I 100% agree this movie was terrible. It’s the worst movie from 2023.
Nah it's not it just has wasted potential
Can you please try to review PBS Kids following the big rise they've been getting in the last 5 years?
A success is a film that makes more than twice the money spent on it. That's what makes it profitable
Then did Issac Carlson say that the movie was good
It’s not that hard to hire people who care about the product they’re creating.
I haven't watched Wish. Should I watch it?
Yes! don't listen to these loser haters!
Idk you can go watch it if you want but personally I don't like it
I wouldn’t waste my time, there are better movies out there
@@Star-uq2ox Just give it a chance! please!
Nah this movie sucked in general. The writing and storytelling were 0/10, didnt make any sense at all and felt like it was a first draft
Earlier this year you outright called it shit...
DO YOU LIKE THIS MOVIE OR NOT
It was made by modern Disney, that’s why it failed
Encanto was made by modern Disney and it's a great movie
@@3liloDaily the only reason why I think wish failed was because ahsa looks like princess jasmine.
Uhm Inside out 2, Encanto? Yeah this doesn't work anymore
@@Simbala-bq5vy In my opinion it's the opposite, I saw Inside Out 2 as a big step forward for Pixar, it was very good actually
Almighty have fallen
Because it sucks
First
Ima be honest Wish is a movie that I feel like is better then what people give credit for. I don’t think it’s amazing, but I do think it’s pretty good. It has a good heart.
It was really bland
WlSH
One thing, we're still talking and attacking Wish? it's been 9 months, can we let it go.but I know u personally enjoy as do i
It's a good film!
I really enjoyed this movie as I do own both the movie on dvd as well as the cd . It’s favorite animated movie of 2023 next to the spider verse movie.
Story was sh*t
It's actually a good movie and not bad at all nor need any changes. People just hate it for no reason
And the way I read about what Wish COULDVE BEEN?! I was sad
Very sad.
I know why Wish failed. Because they putted Ichabod in the end credits to represent The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr Toad instead of Mr Toad. Even though Mr Toad is more popular than him. Please answer me.
