HDest actually plays really well with Tilt and a visor mod! Helps make the game feel more like a tactical shooter. Since HDest is so customisable, a visor mod also works nicely for extra HUD elements: heart rate monitors for your teammates in co-op, carry weight, even a calorie-counter if you're running that kind of submod.
Eh, you don't have to worry. I used to use those visor HUD mods to play along with brutal doom. I found it from a channel called Martinoz. Over time, I started using the Catsvisor hud mod, but I'd remove the visor and keep only the HUD elements. That's a pretty good HUD. I started playing more standalone wads and mods like reelism, which opened up a whole new interest into the rest of the modding scene. I'd recommend a gameplay conversion mod called Godless Night. It has combat similar to brutal doom, with less than half of the edginess. Also, the fisheye and the visor mod seems to go very well together
The "wide monster sprites" in concert with DOOM3D is giving me nausea and a reminder of that jank Turok prototype for the GBA. Perfect for what you were shooting for.

Doom with 3D models on its own merits actually looks pretty nice if you're going for that sweet low-poly 5th gen look. It's like some obscure FPS from 1999 that never was.

Hey! I like some of these mods you used to make your game a horror show. I use hitmarkers and champions pretty often. and i've tried a few of the others but wrote them off as novelties. 3D doom is really the rug that ties your cursed pack together.
I acutally used the Doomvisor mod on a proper playthrough. Icarus missed a trick with it though The Doomvisor has "alerts" you can enable. Say you start getting low on health or ammo you can have it play a lovely high pitched alarm followed by a pretty poor quality voice telling you "AMMO LOW" or whatever. With the cacophony of noise that cursed DOOD mod is bringing us, I feel it may add to the... atmosphere? Either way, I had to hug my emotional support DOOM CDs from my childhood to make it through the video.
Fun fact, you can combine Champions with Legendoomlite so that the upgraded enemies from legendoomlite gain the extra abilities from champions when mutating. They're very good mods to run with eachother.

This is how I feel as a dev on the PB team. We want balance and a clear vision, but if you do a cursory search on UA-cam, you will never find two videos that are alike, because none of these videos ever showcase just vanilla PB, they typically have 20 extra mods patchworked inside of it. As a result, we fet a lot of newcomers joining the discord and asking "Why is X thing not in the game???" This is because doom is more of a dev kit than a game now, so you have a bunch of kids adding "what they think is uber cool" without regart to good game design. This video basically personifies the frustration of seeing doomslop everywhere. I call these modlists "foot lettuce load orders" for their burger king (have it your way) nature of patchwork modlist. The foot lettuce part refers to the typically traah quality of the mods.

I would’ve replaced the 3D stuff with these two mods Wobbly shaders Extreme weapons pack (or whatever mod has the electric toothbrush and half sawn off shotgun) Maybe Dood, but that may conflict with the weapons mod.
Honestly, this is just a personal taste thing. Beside the leg mod and dood music, i like all these mods and would play through doom with them unironicly.
Throwing together mods like this has the same vibe as the late 90's person web pages with totally random collection of obnoxiuous animating gifs paired with unreadable text on gaudy and distracting background. Why we did it back then? Because we could!
You're not a Doom modder until you do this. Especially if you manage to sort of pull it off and make it playable. I once combined Samsara Reincarnated with a Maximum Doom all-in-one mod, plus a bunch of UI stuff like damage numbers. health bars, and a minimap. It was a glorious clusterfuck.
You are not suffering enough. This also needs some "bleeding" mechanic and overall some kind of "Call of Duty" mod to make the movement slower and force the player to use gunsights.
Tilt++ is actually pretty good imho. You can customize it to your liking, if the standard settings are too wild for you. Also, Doom3D doesn't... look too bad?! I am kinda surprised actually. Sure it's janky, but that can also be its charme. I'd use it only in lower resolutions, though. This way you get the most jank low-poly aesthetic out of it.
I think the Champions mod is good to use on low or low-mild setting with Gun-bonsai, with Corruption Cards. Or make it more of a nightmare with Colourful Hell combined together.
There's channels on UA-cam that play Doom in a way very similar to this, but completely and utterly without irony. Truly, evil lies in the hearts of men.
You also could've used the Obsidian map generator and crank the settings to something stupid to get some of the finest maps that would make Romero cry.
I mean, Doom3D is _supposed_ to look like shitty late 90s 3D models, I don't think it really counts for the purposes for this mod, you should've used the JDoom 3D models instead.
It'd be even better if they ported these all to Unreal Engine so I can enjoy Doom with Ray Tracing, and we can add all the bloom and motion blur to make it even more cinematic and awesome!
This really goes to show how much everything boils down to artistic direction and game design. Feature creep and technologic gizmos mean, ultimately, nothing. It's always more about what you don't put in, and the "vibe" of it all. A perfect example is the "visor" thing. Amazingly well done in Metroid Prime. Dogwater in this mod. I feel like Adrian Carmack is brutally underrated for how crucial his vision on how things looked was to the endearing legacy of Doom.
That entryway with the texture filter takes me back to the entryway remake custom map people made for killing floor which I played more than I care to admit
The kids are saying "haunted" now. I truly don't get the "playing through a bodycam lens" style of game. Isn't it way more realistic to see out of... the EYES of the character you're playing as than their body cam? I adore how near the end you've got a skull running around on legs, and a Pinky with the 3D mod says "you want legs? Oh I'll GIVE you legs!", like the two mods got into a competition with each other.
I don’t understand what crisp pixels the author is talking about, in the days of CRT monitors, such clear pixels simply didn’t exist, and the filter is needed precisely to get closer to the original.
Unironically I use a similar Reshade shader to the fisheye mod, though much less severe, since I'm not trying to imitate bodycam games, but rather to make objects preserve their apparent shape while rotating the camera. It's much more effective in 3rd-person over-the-shoulder games (to the point that my brain gets tricked into viewing the 3d space as 3d as if it was actually a window into another world), but it's still really handy in 1st person games at higher FOVs to avoid that tunnel effect.
