  • I get hit with questions all the time - through Instagram, Facebook, Cults3d, Etsy, you name it - about how to paint 3d printed action figures. And the honest truth is that there are a variety of ways to approach it, and I'm no expert! In fact, I've painted very few of my own original designs compared to my customers. but I'm happy to share some advice and discuss the methods and materials I use!
So in this Workshop Tour video, I discuss paints, primers, sealers, brushes, and waterslide decals. not really a tutorial per se - but more just a rundown of how I do it myself. Enjoy, and subscribe!

It's weird to think I have action figures that came out of that shop.

Interesting video! Yeah, waterslide decals are a great material to work with. I have them made with a white color in the printing process, convenient for better coverage.

Great video in introducing these various painting concepts for your prints. I wanted to mention that the Vallejo paints can be found at Hobby Lobby, I just happened to be there today and found them in the aisle with the model cars. YMMV.

Awesome - they don't seem to stock them at my local Hobby Lobby, but that's OK...I prefer to go to Hobby Town anyway! You're right...YMMV.

Glad you’re on UA-cam. Would possibly like to see tutorials for figures from start to finish. Hoping you make a young Luke from the Obi-Wan series, a Qui-Gon Jinn and a Betty Bot. Realistic or animated. 😊

Once I actually force myself to sit down and paint some figures, I plan to do that!

Great video! I look forward to more. I'm a big fan of both Vallejo and Tamiya paints as well as white Tamiya primer. For a gloss coat that seems to hit the Kenner shine just right, I put Pledge Floor Care Finish through my airbrush. It's sort of a go-to option for a lot of model makers.
For eyes, I usually draw them on with a ultra fine point gel marker. It seems to work okay. If you ever decide to sell sheets of waterslide eye decals, I'd be an early customer. Love your figures, and I'm working on my next order.

I've actually never heard the Pledge Floor Care thing before - that's fascinating! Yeah, I'm starting to think I need to put together some waterslide downloads now that multiple folks have asked!

A download for those water decal sheets would be awesome and of great help to the community!
