Cant wait till I'm able to renounce my loyalty to Super Earth and fight for Helghan when the new Warbond drops. Super Earth will know, Helghan belongs to the Helghast
The irony is that Killzone series never resolved the conflict. Helghan and Vecta fought a massive war with use of WMDs that resulted in tens of millions of dead(mostly helghast, but also millions vectans) and none of it mattered since Vecta was following orders from Earth and even threw themselves to protect Earth in the end of KZ3, only for Earth immediately backstab Vecta again and demand that they accept all helghast refugees alone or Earth and core worlds would force them. Tl:dr - Helghast literally fought against (Super) Earth government and their puppet, Vecta.
When I used to play “PlayStation Allstars” and a Killzone soldier was there, I was a menace on the battlefield. Only rarely losing. Now I’ve come full circle, as a Helldiver to never lose again.
"My people... Sons and Daughters of Helghan... For many years, we have been a broken nation: shunned, oppressed, and conquered by those we sought to escape. Ten years ago, I asked for time, and that time was granted by you. You: the strength in my arm, the holders of my dreams... Our forefathers embarked on the greatest exodus in the history of all mankind. An exodus for freedom, Helghan became that freedom. Our new world changed our bodies. At first, it weakened us, but in fact, we were growing... stronger. In the time you have given me, I have rebuilt our nation, I have rebuilt our strength, and I have rebuilt our pride! Our enemies at home have been re-educated; we have given them new insights into our cause. On this day, we stand united once more. On this day, those driven to divide us will hear our voice! On this day, we shall act as one, and we shall be ignored NO MORE! Defenders of the Helghast dream, NOW IS OUR TIME!"
Every individual Helghast unit, especially in the second game, should be commended for that mix of WW2 German, dieselpunk, industrial sci-fi and 1980s-2000s American hybrid. Not every day you get a guy with welder's goggles, a rebreather, American PASGT-style helmet (ironically similar to the German Stahlhelm) all in a mud-soaked dust-covered grey-black uniform in media.
Brian Cox did such an INSANE job with the voice for Scolar Visari, he is by far my favorite sci/fi "villain", despite not having nearly enough screen presence. The speeches and his voice completely sells him as a dictator the Helghast would put their undying faith in. Incredible stuff.
Almost nothing that the Visari, Orlock, and Stahl regimes are responsible for were justified. Go back through the series and pay attention to what they actually do. They violently suppress free thought. They run a monopolized economy that treats its workers like trash. They force their people to live in densely packed slums. They force them to sacrifice themselves for the regime. They execute their own soldiers for uniform violations. They nuked their own capital just to slow the ISA down. They deliberately slaughtered civilians indiscriminately when they invaded Vekta in the first game. They planned to exterminate the entire population of Earth and subjugate the whole galaxy under their tyrannical regime. When Helghan got glassed, it was because their own weapons were accidentally detonated on Helghan instead of Earth. And EVEN AFTER all of that, the ISA GAVE THEM HALF OF VEKTA TO LIVE ON.
for Killzone players out there that thinks "damn, I wish I could play as the bad guys, they look so cool" u literally play as the bad guys in the entire franchise, the ISA are the bad guys but less cool

It was even so bad that the ISA and its governance didnt give a damn and was essentially starving the helghast to death and if it werent for black markets or other means, the helghast would have all died. Also it is both as well of which were all discarded by the time of killzone 2 and 3 when ISA soldiers can breathe its atmosphere hahahaahahahahja, they really destroyed there own laws in favour of the ISA and just ended up making the Helghast look more favourable.
What I always thought was stupid is the writers implying every helghan is evil by nature and the only way for a helghan to be go is to be mixed. The only pure blood they had the decency to make good was Boris in the psvita game and the guy dies the mission he shows up
The Helghast certainly weren't saints, but the conflict was actually started by the ISA and the Vektans. The first Killzone starts from the point of the Helghast retaliation and frames it as if the entire conflict just started there with an unprovoked attack. The ISA were literally working on a biological weapon that only targeted Helghast in an attempt to exterminate all of them.
I wish there was a captive episode in the KILLZONE: Shadow fall campaign where you would be offered to join the ranks of Helgasts or stay loyal to ISA. If you choose to stay loyal to ISA, then the episode will take place as a stealth action with an escape and the campaign will take place as if you are fighting for the good guys against the bad villains. But if you choose to join the Helgasts, the game becomes a gray moral one, where the defeated Helgasts fight against a tyrannical regime to avenge the genocide of their home planet through guerrilla attacks, terror and murders of civilians and politicians.
For Killzone case, the thing is that entire lore portrayed them as victim most of the time. Like being kicked out of Vecta colony, settle on a hellish planet that they barely survive, treated as exploited extraction economy, and heavy implication that previous government that Autarch took over might be puppet government. I see same issue with Dragon Prince where we are supposed to see both Elves, Dragons, and Humans as morally grey except latter got kicked out for…using magic (even worse in flashback when said mage was supposed to surrender peacefully but the Dragon forced his hand by trying to burn down the city).
I always felt sorry for the Helghast. The game just portrayed them as evil Nazis in space, but if you look at their backstory, you realise the ISA and their Earth Gov. masters are the real assholes, and the Helghast too became assholes as a result of that treatment. It's easy to argue that they could have arisen above such challenges, but look at our world and what happens when you take a broken and desperate people, humiliate them, starve and traumatise them, and then hand them over to a manipulative demagogues who offers them a way out of that darkness, and you get totalitarian horrors like Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. Evil needs fertile soil to grow in, and the brutal, fascist regime of Helghan under Scholar Visari had a great deal of very fertile and resentful soil to grow in. Seeing the conflict from the Helghast perspective would have been fascinating, but instead we just had to play from the perspective of jingoistic ISA goons like that obnoxious buffoon Rico and his faceless grunt buddies. Oh, you also end up genociding the Helghan population in KZ3 and then you force the survivors in Shadow Fall to live in a segregated apartheid state. Fun stuff. Granted, that lunatic Stahl was planning to nuke Earth with petrusite weapons, but I can't help but feel that's just mad-super-villain plot contrivances to make the Helghast look more EEEEVVVVIIIIIILLLL.
@@Oppen1945 That is true. I suppose they thought they could end up finding freedom elsewhere, but they went from living under the boot-heel of Earth to living under the boot-heel of Helghan's gov.
I still remember the propaganda from KZ2 multiplayer. " You are the true Helghast. Ruthless to those who oppose us. Masters of those we defeat. Unflinching in the face of adversity."
I like how there's 4 killzone games and they completely fail to prove as to why the Helghan are supposed to be bad. "OOh, they wear spooky outfits and their flag is nazish" THE VEKTA KICKED THEM INTO A DUMP PLANET, INVADED SAID PLANET AND THEN KILLED *LITERALLY* EVERYONE THERE!

The irony is that Killzone series never resolved the conflict.

The Helghast certainly weren't saints, but the conflict was actually started by the ISA and the Vektans.

In before Emperor Visari's legion of shooters arise from the dead to descend on Helldivers 2
Fun stuff.
