Don't forget the knowledge you have learned from doing all of these mods. Most people would not have a go at a set of brake pads. The money you will save now on car bills will completely overtake the GT86 bills. Excellent vid Chris. I don't put a price on having fun whatever it costs is my motto.
Some people give the money to banks to buy small boxes over 35 years in the name of "owning" a house while watching their life vaporize ... If you got it spend it how you want too ...Live your life, too many slaves on this planet , spending money to enjoy life without harming anyone is called freedom , and that is disappearing fast.. The GT86 and its fun, is part of old style freedom, to do what you want to the car without permission of the maker or the electronics the maker programs you obey ...Electric driver-less cars will take over too fast, and then we can be even bigger slaves to the people that want it that way ..Enjoy while you can
money well spent man! The enjoyment of fitting the mods, long hours spent with friends, and the results are always good. -side note: I'd sell the r8 and start saving for the next supercar 😉
The car is worth every cent you put into it!! The world of fun when it's boosted ! I never look back at what my car and how much it destroyed my bank account haha keep up the awesome videos man !!
Damn, I admit I smiled but that was so unnecessar!! PS: Very nice video. I love this car! You got a great secondhand market there and a very nice project car culture ;)
I would have spent the money on R8 mods instead. Then use the Gt86 as a reliable daily driver. You can still drift the R8. If that's what you're into. Good luck with your '86. Cheers
i am not gonna say shit if you have the money to trow be my quest :p your not driving a R8 v10 cause your poor clearly the mods are easy in your range to afford it :P i do have to say it left me speechless wish i could mod my car like that :P
I have fun messing with my 86 on the weekend, if I purchased the perfect car that didn't need modding, id just get bored and fuck with something else...
The purpose of working hard is that you can enjoy the things in life, I would think people spend way more than you have on utterly useless things and have nothing to show for it. I remember you saying, in one of your first videos, you didn't know a lot about 'working' on cars and now you do most of the mods yourself.....
I always get the comment oh why didnt you get a wrx sti. And if it isnt your style it isnt your style. I think there ugly and I want a custom build not a build by a dealership. Who wants to see the same car they drove over and over when you can be completely custom
Interesting how you really like the subframe inserts for throttle response. I fitted them to my old 130i and felt the most benefit in directional changes and generally taking the slop out. Hadn't considered them for the 86 as it's not that lacking in that regard, hmmm
For what they cost and how easy they are to install, I'd say you may as well give it a go, but then if you don't feel like the throttle is that sloppy in stock form then maybe there's no point. I just remember really not being happy with the throttle response when I first got the car, especially when coming off the throttle.
Yeah I might do for what they cost, sounds like some Saturday morning winter tinkering ahead. What's your findings on the KW V3's long-term? I had V1's on an Impreza, never used on track. They're not the fashionable choice on the 86, wondered how they would cope with track days
Worth it IMO. In materials alone you have a fantastically handling car that would take something like a Porsche 911 to surpass in handling capabilities, an awesome turbo kit that I would like to imagine is at 350hp on pump petrol, 450hp on E86, and is entirely UNIQUE to you! Beyond what you are left with materialistically, you also spend that much money to become much better learned in your car and how it goes together and the mechanics of it, countless hours spent with friends working on your car, and what I am sure is an absolutely unforgettable experience in total. Absolutely, undoubtedly, resoundingly worth it.
Nice build! Now I don't feel as bad about putting similar mods and money into my GTI. I got a FRS too recently which will probably be my next money pit. Currently it just has a header and OFT tune. Eventually I want to go FI and I want to do the internals like you did. I like that you are humble enough to admit when others do the work for you - I only do very basic stuff myself.
All that labour saving though! Think of the price of the labour! I love your GT86! Also I suspect a new track car now the GT86 is a drift car! Or keeping the Audi?
I dread to think how much it would have cost to get it all done by a shop and pay for all the labour lol I'd love to buy a new track car but no room on my drive for another car... first world problems eh
I wish I had an 8 car driveway lol mine fits 2 and that's it. Have to move one of them whenever I want to get one into/out of the garage (first world problems eh)
Thank you for this video! I can't tell you how helpfull this is for people who want to modify their cars but don't have a lot of experience with modding. Planning (and knowing how much a build will cost) is the most important step, so this helped A LOT. thanks again!
The entire journey and learning from beginning until the present day is a big value in £40,000 so I guess now if you can enjoy the car and learn to tame the beast it's well worth it :)
If there is no room in the garage for an Audi R8 then the total cost of all the GT86 mods = It doesn't matter because even if you could afford a GT86 you aint gonna do this to it anyway
Crikey. I just bought an Audi R8 for that price! Credit to you though! This video made me laugh. Loved the blooper at the start as well. Any chance of a more frequent upload? Always good to see either yourself or sideways sid upload! Hopefully I'll see you at a car meet sometime over the next few months. Do you have anything planned? I've never done one but at least now I have a car worth taking!
Definitely not a waste of money for the car and the mods! Maybe i'm biased haha. But as others have said the experience is key. I love a garage day installing a new upgrade and learning about it all. Thumbs up!
Small thing forgotten is the strut brace you got! Loving the way your car has turned out and hope to see more. Will one day get mine to the same level :D Will probably take your advice and get the whiteline kit too!
Ah yeah forgot about the strut brace as we've had to take it off now (doesn't fit on the new camber plates that sit there now). Good luck with your build :)
I think if I sold the R8 due to not driving it much then I probably wouldn't buy another supercar, because I wouldn't drive that much either. A 570 or 458 etc won't be THAT much different to the R8 (2 seats, mid engined, expensive, stupidly fast, etc)
CarPassion I agree, most project cars do not return on the investment. Fortunately a lot of people mod theses cars and its not hard to sell them by the part. My bmw 530i had some aftermarket parts and im now 50% off and still no one is biting on a bumper and side skirts
It was an identical clutch not an 'exact same clutch'. Makes a difference. Either way, useful info on this review. I would of done all this too if I was your age.
lol yeah a lot of people said that. Wouldn't have made any difference what order we did that in tbh - the parts that got angle grinded aren't visible after installing the new arches
With that money, you could've bought a....
GT86 + MODS!
Don't forget the knowledge you have learned from doing all of these mods. Most people would not have a go at a set of brake pads. The money you will save now on car bills will completely overtake the GT86 bills. Excellent vid Chris. I don't put a price on having fun whatever it costs is my motto.
Yeah learning how to do a lot of it has been the best part, and yeah exactly - no point saving money but having no fun
Money well spent
You need to buy a 4 car garage with a bedroom and a shower. I need to buy a 4 car garage with a bedroom and a shower
we all need to buy a 4 car garage with a bedroom and shower

Sell that shit Audi and blow it on GT86
awesome dude. like you said, you've learnt a lot from it, and its been enjoyable watching you tinker with it. Keep it up :).
Could've bought some hair implants for Bald Yoda.
EliteAlex000 u savage 😂
haha comment of the year
Damn, I admit I smiled but that was so unnecessar!!
PS: Very nice video. I love this car! You got a great secondhand market there and a very nice project car culture ;)

So with all these mods, what's the horsepower and torque now ?
spoiler alert, he spent 40,400 pounds or around 50,000 usd
i am not gonna say shit if you have the money to trow be my quest :p your not driving a R8 v10 cause your poor clearly the mods are easy in your range to afford it :P i do have to say it left me speechless wish i could mod my car like that :P
Thanks for the mention at 11.53 Chris!!
I guess the R8 is too lame and the 86 stepped up to the plate! Perplexed :D
I'm here because I just calculated my total and now I need a support group. Thanks
Mate, just awesome! This is by far the best channel ever for 86 owners! (and car people in general) Thank you and keep it up!
My favourite car channel. Love the 86 videos.
Did you remember the rear bottom light?
I have fun messing with my 86 on the weekend, if I purchased the perfect car that didn't need modding, id just get bored and fuck with something else...

Money well spent, definitely going to have more than £40k worth of enjoyment from it!

What are those seats called?
Danny Menendez they’re called comfy seats lol
where did you get those seats from, and how much did they cost?
Expensive but great 86 :-)
Should have bought me a GT86 >.>

Don’t sell the R8, looks like a V8 manual. Worth hanging on to if possible.
you should have bought this car *inserts car* *troll face*
Where's he from can't tell from the accent
São Paulo
i would of bought a gtr.
Worth it IMO. £42k on a GT86? You should have got a BRZ. :)
Junge Robert wow that went straight over your head

DedicationBlog hahahah I have 2 cars on a 8 car drive way and my mum moans at me like crazy.. think yourself lucky haha
I wish I had an 8 car driveway lol mine fits 2 and that's it. Have to move one of them whenever I want to get one into/out of the garage (first world problems eh)
question though.... do you declare all of these mods on insurance?
Thank you for this video! I can't tell you how helpfull this is for people who want to modify their cars but don't have a lot of experience with modding. Planning (and knowing how much a build will cost) is the most important step, so this helped A LOT. thanks again!
And now go back into your garage and fix that drift-handbrake-kaching-thing. * giving you a serious look *
:)
The entire journey and learning from beginning until the present day is a big value in £40,000 so I guess now if you can enjoy the car and learn to tame the beast it's well worth it :)
I reckon you should sell the M4, get a diesel Fiesta for a daily and then trade the R8 for a 458 Italia. You know it makes sense!
If there is no room in the garage for an Audi R8 then the total cost of all the GT86 mods = It doesn't matter because even if you could afford a GT86 you aint gonna do this to it anyway
Omfg that’s definitely what a 86 built for...don’t kick my ass
Where did the gt86 nanny thing come from curious is a 350Z one exists
53k...
If you're gonna sell the r8, atleast sell it when you're gonna replace it say with a 488
I liked the blue color a lot better... just my opinion
For fuck sake Chris, could've got like 10 C1's for that
I couldn't even handle one, let alone ten
DedicationBlog You're not wrong
Crikey. I just bought an Audi R8 for that price! Credit to you though! This video made me laugh. Loved the blooper at the start as well. Any chance of a more frequent upload? Nice :) hope you enjoy it. Not signed up for any SupercarDriver meets at the moment, just doing a couple of track days in the next few weeks
Didn't actually remember much lol.
the sound you hear when you shift 0:14 is so nice... I need that.
Definitely not a waste of money for the car and the mods! Maybe i'm biased haha. But as others have said the experience is key. I love a garage day installing a new upgrade and learning about it all. Thumbs up!
Yeah that's definitely made it a lot more enjoyable (and slightly less expensive) than if I'd just got a garage to do all the work
how much does it cost from modle 2012 ? can you tall me pleas
Could've saved money and done the pedal dance.
300 pounds for 2 front wide body what
Small thing forgotten is the strut brace you got!
Should have bought out a few pound shops :'(
It's always money well spent if you enjoy it.
Could have bought a toyota aygo for that money.
Or a Toyota Prius plug in hybrid with all options
well... shit
should've PCPed a BMW M2 :)
Who do you insure your GT86 with? Trying to find a company best for mods
Sky Insurance
did you meantion the seats? how much where they?
Scorch he's in an R8
Omg that's so much money
You switch gears too much
idk how u cld own an R8 and not want to drive it everyday XD Ik I would!!
probably not driven a gt86 yet ;)
what does this lad do for a living?
40k. that is dedication....
what turbo are you running ?
If you were to sell the R8, what's your next choice for a supercar?
570s?
I think if I sold the R8 due to not driving it much then I probably wouldn't buy another supercar, because I wouldn't drive that much either. A 570 or 458 etc won't be THAT much different to the R8 (2 seats, mid engined, expensive, stupidly fast, etc)
DedicationBlog Go for a test drive you might have a change of heart.
im early
cheers mate
Damn your memory is terrible lol
it is when it comes to the price of things lol maybe I force myself to forget :P
sell it get and get a 997 gt3, and you wont lose money :)
nahhhh
Literally just made a video to brag. zzzzzz
how much were those seats?
Free with the purchase of an R8 mate!
andrew horner I laughed so hard I spitted my coffee on my laptop, you need more likes bro
Are they condoms on the passenger seat?
lol no that's my wallet
DedicationBlog Oh fuck, just realised it
what seats are those? They look amazing
hes sitting in an r8 ;)
oh whoops :P
It's totally worth it. You couldn't buy anything like that anywhere near 40k. Not even a supra
its trown money when hes selling it IF he sells it he will not get a penny for the mods.
CarPassion although that might be true if he sells the car as a whole, it is not if he sells the parts separately.
Domingos Pereira true but its his project car and he has the money to spent so why not :p
CarPassion I agree, most project cars do not return on the investment. Fortunately a lot of people mod theses cars and its not hard to sell them by the part. My bmw 530i had some aftermarket parts and im now 50% off and still no one is biting on a bumper and side skirts
E brake?
mentioned that in the video. Its the nameless performance hydro handbrake and I think it was about 200 quid
You should've bought a supercharger.
I did... for the R8
DedicationBlog Chris, I was just kidding. Sorry if I offended you. 😂
lol no offence taken
@@DedicationBlog Preference ? Turbo or Supercharger (on the rd)
Sell r8 and buy maclaren
Should have bought a BRZ... 😉
dammit
aZebraInATopHat what the fuck is the difference
Not much at all. Personally I like the GT86 first, then BRZ, then FRS; but they are all very similar
Philip McIntosh lul frs IS toyota gt 86 it got rebranded when scion died
close, but no, the gt86 is the non U.S model, the US model that is simply a rebranded FRS is only called Toyota 86 rather than Toyota GT86
It was an identical clutch not an 'exact same clutch'. Makes a difference. Either way, useful info on this review. I would of done all this too if I was your age.
Karl, it's 'have' not 'of' hahahaha
Only thing I found strange, was having the new paint job, then next issue taking an angle grinder to the wings!!! Cool project.
lol yeah a lot of people said that. Wouldn't have made any difference what order we did that in tbh - the parts that got angle grinded aren't visible after installing the new arches
