It's been 3 months, literally for other seasonal anime the season has already changed. I never know any anime that can do that unless it's like bleach but then again i don't remember it survive 3 months.
I think people have a misunderstanding on how frieren got to N1. It wasn't with pure hype like oshi no ko, It started as an 8.7, and slowly climbed up and stayed since. I think if it has a strong enough season finale, it's here to stay for at least a good year.

The fact that Frieren is still number one in MAL proves it is legit amazing. The sakuga animation in the action scene is what keeps everyone hooked now that the first class mage exam arc has begun. Truly deserves to be anime of the year.
It's practically faultless and controversy free(unlike MIA,MT), similar to FMAB. Every other title on MAL 100 has some fault or the other. Frieren won't drop, especially at the point where it will end. Only way it can fall is if Madhouse milk the cow and get lazy in the end.
@@HolyRamanRajyaEh I’d say the only real controversy with FMA:B is that the first part of the series sucked as a first-time viewer of FMA in general, since they went with the assumption that plenty of folks would have watched or read another adaptation previously. It’s to a point where I suggest watching part of FMA 03, then pick up FMA:B where the former left off. You spend more time with the characters and their journeys. The art and music choices were arguably better in the 03 version around that point as well. And oh boy, when that one character dies, in 03 they see the aftermath first hand and get depressed, in Brotherhood they are told about what happened instead and get sad. At least, that’s how I saw it.

It came in 2009-2010 which was the lowest point in anime quality and FMAB looked like a gem relatively. There's nostalgia bias and there's also the forced-to-watch-watever-on-tv-prime-time-after-school-and-develop-stockholm-syndrome bias which favors shows like FMAB, Naruto, Death Note, Demon slayer etc but I digress

What is really important to remember is that Frieren and the Elves in general are not emotionless. They are simply different than humans because they live in a different time than humans. Humans meet and get married and have a family within the first 30 years of our lives in most cases. An Elf doesn't have to be that constricted. They can pursue their hobbies for 500 years, meet someone nice during that time, spent a couple of centuries getting to know them, and then get married and have a family. It's the same thing a human does, but with a different time perception. And that is a normal elf's mentality. A normal Elf would have understood everything Himmel tried to convey to Frieren and all the things that he did for her that showed his love for her. But Frieren didn't pick on that. Why? That is because Frieren is emotionally distant as you said. Frieren is not a reliable narrator and that is something most people miss when they see the show. As we have established the Elves have emotions, the same range and with the same intensity as humans. Frieren's comment that the Elves don't have romantic and reproductive urges is wrong because that is her perception alone and this claim has already been debunked by the anime and manga. If they lacked romantic and reproductive urges then they would have gone extinct a long time ago because no new elves would be born and no families would exist. But that is not the case as we have seen that Frieren herself lived in a village with her family, and the village had families and more importantly CHILDREN. That means that the Elves do have romantic and reproductive urges. They are simply living in a different time than the rest of the races of this world such as humans and dwarves. The reasons that the Elves are going extinct are different. The first reason is the near total war that the demons declared on them that led to a lot of casualties and the second is their different sense of time. While they do have reproductive urges and romantic feelings, because they live for so long it is not necessary for them to find a romantic partner and create a family within the first 2 to 3 decades of their lives as humans usually do, meaning that the birth rates of the Elven race are significantly lower compared to the other races. Add to that the war with the Demons for more than a millennia and you have a recipe for disaster. The elven population was decimated as a result of the genocidal war with the demons and the elves are now few and far between with their population dwindling and dying out. If they could get together and create a secluded community they might save their species, but that would be difficult because they would have to start actively searching the continent to find the remaining Elves and bring them together. Now why is Frieren different than a normal Elf? That is because of the way she grew and lived. Frieren was the sole survivor of the attack on her village when she was a young girl. After that she lived with Flamme that taught her that the best possible way to fight effectively against demons is to be an unknown quantity. To hide her mana and to have never made a name for herself so that the demons would have never heard of her. While they visited towns and cities for supplies and news, they never interacted for anything more than shopping with anyone. So, Frieren's social skills and manners are nothing more than what is needed to interact civilly with another for work and shopping. After all, after Flamme's death she secluded herself in her forest and lived as a hermit. She only visited towns and kingdoms for supplies and news. Nothing more. She has no real idea how to behave around people, she had no real friendships or relationships of any kind until Himmel and his party pestered her to go with them. Himmel, Heiter and Eisen were the first real friends she had since Flamme! So, of course she didn't understand most of the things Himmel did for her! She didn't because she doesn't know even now what he really meant to her. It's only now that she has started to understand her own feelings and Himmel's feelings. That is the tragedy of their story. Being an Elf of course has it's own place in the story, giving us that different sense of time an elf has in contrast to a human, but it is really a combination of factors that led to the tragic love story we see before us.

I truly think Frieren will be a classic. It makes me think though that the domino effect is a strong factor in highly ranked shows. If something is voted high enough, it causes more people to watch it, which results in more votes.
This exactly. And gotta take into account recency bias. It's very easy to enjoy and episode you just watched and when you see people talking about it on social media it influences your opinion of the show. I wish you couldn't rate a show on MAL until the season was completed.
Well yea, but more people watching also means fans fo shonen or romance watching it and thinking its mid. Usually the more popular something gets the more voted down it get's simply because of preferences.

From the moment of Himmel's funeral, Frieren stops being about an elf that just looks passively at a world that rapidly changes, and becomes a story of appreciating more and more the fleeting moments that might seem unimportant at the time, but that can make life worth living when you can remember them. I think this is a message that can resonate with almost everyone in this frantic society of always looking for the next big thing, and it's the reason why Frieren is so important, even if it's not the top of the top tier. Slow down a little, get a good look around you, cherish the time you spend with the people you love. That's what Frieren is about and why it deserves the attention it's getting 💞

If they were comparing the two for some sort of review I could see it, but it starts with the premise of why does Frieren work and Galadriel doesn't to show what makes a character likeable, sympathetic and interesting when they should in theory be hard to empathize with.

The comparison is on the basis of understanding and feeling for a character that is fundamentally at odds with how we as humans perceive life itself. Both of them are either immortal (meaning in this case eternal - not undying) or at least so longlived, that we would consider them to be immortal. Both of them handle the same issue of disconnect, loss of loved ones and learning how to deal with it. One show is way more consistent in how the character is portraited and how they handle the situation, where the other is jumpy and changing constantly, which makes it way harder to get behind what the character is all about. In her defense, Galadriel was a lot yonger at that point, but that doesn't matter, because we wanted to explore the concept of how the eternal one handles the loss of loved ones. The video makes a lot of cases on why Frieren is a masterclass in tackling this topic, where TRoP is not. Why Frieren as a character works and why Galadriel falls flat and fails. How an unknown show can outshine a series, where reputation and fandom precedes the inception of the series itself. In my opinion it's not disrespectful at all - it's a love letter to the Frieren series as a whole. A showcase of an independent series where passion for the craft and the desire to tell a compelling story outweights the seemingly money-grubby-nature of many modern western series, that don't dare to create something new and only build upon existing stories. Simply put: Frieren puts The Rings of Power to shame.

I always see people say “does it deserve to be number 1, no” but they never say what DOES deserve the number 1 spot. I know the list is arbitrary but Frieren is no less deserving of the spot than FMAB.
Well fmab is finished while frieren is not. That makes a massive difference considering frieren hasn’t had the chance to hit its peak or low quite yet. I think frieren is actually peak but fmab is currently more deserving
I did the math for myself on how Frieren percieves time with humans.. It would be like a human (that lives for 80 years) remembering still almost every detail of a summer trip with a friend they only got to interact with for 4.8 months.. Still remembering even 2.4 years later (calculating about 30 yrs after himmels death,, and assuming the elf lives for 1000 yrs but of course they live for way longer so the blimp of that moment in the elf's view would be even shorter).. So short yet it affected her so much.
Also, Frieren is 1000+ years old, (as said in the fight against Aura) and some elves, like that Monk dude, still consider her "young"... Just imagine what is an old elf then. I also think the age of their bodies might be similar to that of a human at a comparative age, instead of just a desing trait. I think that because Frieren didn't seem to be/act like an adult in the flashback that her village was destroyed, and also the other elf dude that seems a lot older than Frieren is, in fact, a lot older than her
manga spoilers: Serie is shown to be much older than Frieren, so it could be that Elves can live for thousands of years or even ten of thousands of years. But then again, she could have used a spell to extend her lifespan.
I havent seen many people comment on it but the sound production throughout the whole show is beyond godly, like it raises the bar for every other show here on out for me. So next time you're watch listen out for the little things how crisp everything is when it doesn't need to be.

Its because for the first time in a long time, a non shonen show deserves to be ranked highly unlike that shonen drones that keep coming and going fading out of existance and overtaken when the next big shonen comes and overtakes it (JJK is an example of overrated as fuck shonen). You wont find another show like frieren for decades probably, but the next shonen that is going to come out and overtake jjk is right around the corner.
Sorry, I have to disagree with you. Most of the negative reviews and review bombing of Frieren are still from FMA:B fans. You can literally check there newly created accounts every week to upvote FMAB and downvote Frieren with 1s. The only reason Frieren has stayed up so long is because there is equally a lot of new fans discovering the show and keep the scores high.
I believe it deserves the number one spot. Granted nothing is perfect, but I have yet to find a flaw in 17 episodes. Each episode maintains that quality and i can wholeheartedly recommend it over FMAB to a new fan.

FMA is 9.09 rn, Frieren was 9.14 not too long ago and now that it ended sits at 9.35, comfortable first place, by quite a bit. I'm really impressed. No clue how long it'll last, I think it deserves it honestly but will be surprised if it stays there for good. As long as it's in the top 10 it's fine to me :V
I definitely wouldn't say it's "moved past" the initial concept of showing life through a long-lived elf. I feel like there are still moments in pretty much every episode that have to do with Frieren's growth, her approach to other people, and especially her dynamic with her new party vs her previous one. There's still an emphasis on the passing of time and what that does to people.
Does Friren deserve to number 1? I honestly don't know, but if you asked me "is Frieren better than previous n.1?" I would say yes to that at least. Maybe no by large margin, but still recognisably so. And yes I know I am putting targett on my back by that.
I think the answer is NOT YET. FMAB for me is the ideal anime production that we will never have. You have a complete story, proper pacing per episode, action sequences that mesh well with the characters' goals and worldbuilding, themes (I recommend Aleczander vids), top tier voice acting, and weekly releases. Everything in FMAB just clicks. They made the annoying chibi animation work in FMAB like wtf! But if anyone could contest FMAB, I would pick Vinland Saga, Mushoku Tensei, and Fruit Basket. The only issue I have with Fririen is it hasn't end yet (anime wise) so there's a lot of room for it to fumble. Blame Game of Thrones as it made me skeptical a lot 😂 EDIT: I'm mostly talking about anime production like how they release episodes, how they end a season in a satisfying cliffhanger (or not if it's weekly), etc
@@jankyyard5610 I agree it has great production, but I don't think flawless production is enough to be "best anime ever" (and it's not like FMP is only one on that level). For that you have to have deep nuanced characters, incredible story, perfect world building and than something special that noone else has. FMPB is "just" 9-9,5/10 across the board in these regards.
@@jankyyard5610FMAB didn't have good pacing in the beginning because it assumed you've already watched the original FMA adaptation. It isn't as flawless as you might remember. It rushed through the story in order to get to the point where FMA left off. When ppl rate FMAB they often forget to keep the original FMA separate.
Right now, the underplot developing in the manga is the fall of the empire. The sword, the fallen ruins, the mage attrition. Just like with other themes in the story, Yamada drops little eggs here and there.
To say that something doesn't deserve a number 1 spot implies that some anime does in some objective metric, and none do. Not FMAB, not Gintama, not Bebop, not Eva, not any one show "deserves" to be number 1. It's a completely subjective list based on how much people generally like or dislike a show. To say "x show doesn't deserve this much of a positive response" will never not sound entitled and rude to me unless the thing itself is actively hateful or damaging, imo. I don't have an issue with saying "it's not my number one" or "I don't think it's the best anime ever made", but to put feet in the sand and say "I don't think it *deserves* it" is just a no from me dawg lol

What's crazy is that as highly rated as it is, on other sites it's actually behind Apothecary Dairies. Like even on just straight up Crunchyroll reviews, Apothecary has fewer episodes, but more reviews and a full 5.0 whereas Frieran is at 4.9. So while Frieran definitely I think will be in the running for #1, I think it's hard to know until the story is completely finished, because FMAB has a completely finished full storyline, not just "anime finished" where they wrap things up cus the manga is ongoing either. And I think that most of the anime in the top 10 overall should all be stories that we've seen to full real completion and still hold up the entire way through.

It's only UP for Frieren from here onwards. If it were to drop, that should've already happened during their expedition to the northern lands but it didn't.
I think that currently airing shows hold number 1 until its over. I think when the season finishes it'll drop a little bit, but I really wouldn't be suprised if it stays top 5-10 tbh
Is Frieren the #1 anime of all time? Probably not. Is FMA: Brotherhood the #1 anime of all time? Also, probably not. The true #1 anime, or at least the anime the majority of people really do consider to be worthy of the title, since subjectivity plays into this conversation more than any other factor, is probably one we haven't seen yet, or maybe we have. Get my point? That being said, to play devil's advocate. I think what makes Frieren a contender for that title isn't necessarily that it's better than FMAB, AoT, Pluto, JJK, Monster (name whatever, I'm just listing some of my favorites and some of the top-rated shows side-by-side), but that it just doesn't have many flaws. Its premise is simple, its characters are very human but also not remarkable out-of-this-world characters (their characterization rocks, and they are perfect for this story, though), the plot is basic, most of the ideas have been used before, even its well-executed magic system isn't mostly original. Yet, I would argue it executes each and every one of those aspects to a near-perfect degree. There's just very little this show tries to do that it doesn't do without flaw, and if I had to guess, that's what makes it so easy to love this show/story and give it such a prestigious title. It may not be trying for a complex narrative with difficult themes and subject matter like Attack on Titan, or have the intricate conversational potential on humanity and what makes a person a person like FMAB does, or have the interesting nuances of evil present in Monster, or any number of other exceptionally well crafted pieces of media. But what it does do, it arguably does with little to no flaw, and that is something that will always work for the easily entertained and the over-analytical alike.

It's a cozy slice-of-life fantasy series that does what it needs to do spectacularly, in my opinion that is. And, not to relish in pulling this card, but most people do not consider this series boring. So, even though whether it's boring or not is a subjective matter, if a side had to be taken as more representative of the general consensus, it would be the side of us who enjoy this show's cozy pacing. Also...why is the dwarf design being reminiscent of a children's bedtime story a bad thing? Unless you're arguing that such an art style is always bad and can never been fitting, then I can't imagine how you could find it to be out of place in a show with Frieren's art style. That just seems like a silly complaint that reads as more of a you problem than as anything actually wrong with the series.

After 400 animes Frieren it's the first anime that made me love the fcking OST. Just lay in bed hearing the ost and be in a another fcking word. Any anime can be a 10 if there's a good team behind. Yeah after wasting my time in fcking 400 animes I assure you that even the most sht you've watched could had being save with a good team 😂. In one of your main channel videos you spoke about letting the anime release schedule passing you by with Frieren and you’re glad you did. An extended look, not frieren focused, on your take or choosing between staying faithful and not updated for 2024 would be dope.
I can't remember the last anime I enjoyed as much as Frieren to be honest. Ironically Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is one of those I enjoyed a ton, like the Fairy Tail sub-story of Mavis and Zeref, and Noragami. Most shows in this genre I've seen hyped up are 90% fan-service or "No we have Konosuba at home" except it does everything Konosuba does, just slightly less good. Frieren is one I plan to buy the DVDs for upon release to support the animators despite watching "unofficially" because they deserve the support, despite the fact I've seen all thus far for free. (I don't support Crunchyroll or Funimation after years of butchery) In my opinion, it will go down as one of the greats as opposed to "just another X genre anime" like most of the seasonal stuff. Not saying all seasonal stuff is bad, far from it, but few of them will be remembered as fondly by so many.
I was up to date with the manga and I'm so glad too. I had the blessing of being able to experience this masterpiece twice. So happy for it. The one manga I read and didn't expect to have anime adaptation was Fable, like, the manga works wonders, it's funny and cool. But the anime lack the points that makes the manga funny idk
You know the anime is great if the show can convert haters into fans. 😂 But my canon in this whole shenanigans is the majority of FMAB fans protects the MAL no. 1 spot until the "chosen heir" arrives.
I'm gonna be honest, the first-class mage test arc is not that good. It's kind of lacking in the main theme of the story as it dwelves more into world and character building like how the magic system works and the history of the continent. Instead of the time and stuff, but I guess it's not a bad thing. The character's Frieren meets are definitely going to show up again.
My friend. Keep reading the manga. It might circle away from that core of the concept it always comes back to it. Chapter 109 is justs as focused on the concept of the ageless elf as chapter 9.
Frieren is given the time and believable interactions for the shift in personality. It isn't just being saved by OP protagonist and suddenly has feelings for him

imagine at the end of story you can see Fern on her deadbed whisper to Frieren and old Stark of how beautiful of their adventures and not a single day she regretted to be travelling with them, and that last words hit Frieren so hard that for the first time in her thousand years of existence, she cries. then screen fade to black for a short period of time and then were shown a scene where Frieren just travel to someplace with the above text that said "1000 Years after the Great Mage Fern passed away"
Damn, i dunno whether im ready for that yet. Just imagining it from your comments, takes me quite taken aback, teary even (Im the type that hardly teared up). Perhaps, in terms of story longetivity, One Piece will certainly outlast Frieren, but this one goddamn ending you mentioned, it gives me more feels. Not saying OP is worse, but Frieren is just a masterstroke when it comes to making things simple yet very touching.

I also think emotional distancing is an elf thing because they're fully aware that they're outliving almost everyone else so they naturally develop a need to guard themselves from loss. Siere also does it except she keeps lying to herself out loud whereas everything on the scene (flowers, vivid imagery of her student, etc.) says otherwise. It's kinda depicting the inner struggle: "Oh I didn't cared about Flamme I just picked her up on a whim" is a sentence she says twice as if she's trying to convince herself.
I wonder how many people have the L take of not liking the "emotions discovery" trope. XD I can understand not liking kuuderes, altho I personally love them, but that trope is like having a kuuderes with character development on top, what's not to like, I guess it depends on how well the execution is done. And I guess I can relate to it since I am socially awkward myself...

Besides, she was still confused about her feeling when crying and still is to this day (at least on the anime), reflecting on her 10 years journey seems to be the whole point of the new journey to begin with. Sorry if this came off as confrontational.

its a great series but for an unfinished series to sit at the top just doesnt sound right. it has potential to finish in the top 5 once its finished but it seems near impossible for a series to stick the landing aka have a good ending. cant wait to see what comes next
The 2D animation was great, and the art-style was awesome too. I really enjoyed the anime and everything they did is amazing, I don't think degrading the animation would be good. Actually the emotions and all the "silent" moments can be manifested to that degree thanks to the animation. If the animation of the Sou sou no Frieren anime was worse then the rating was gonna be lower aswell, and I think people wouldn't enjoy it as much. In the end if everything is perfect and the people who did the anime really loved it it can be seen, so an easy 10/10 rating from me & one the best anime I've ever watched. Cheers! :D

It's been 3 months, literally for other seasonal anime the season has already changed. I never know any anime that can do that unless it's like bleach but then again i don't remember it survive 3 months.
I think people have a misunderstanding on how frieren got to N1. It wasn't with pure hype like oshi no ko, It started as an 8.7, and slowly climbed up and stayed since.
I think if it has a strong enough season finale, it's here to stay for at least a good year.

The fact that Frieren is still number one in MAL proves it is legit amazing. The sakuga animation in the action scene is what keeps everyone hooked now that the first class mage exam arc has begun.

The true test of whether Frieren will remain at #1 will come when the season ends. Lots of people don't rate a show until the season is finished.
It's practically faultless and controversy free(unlike MIA,MT), similar to FMAB. Every other title on MAL 100 has some fault or the other. Frieren won't drop, especially at the point where it will end. Only way it can fall is if Madhouse milk the cow and get lazy in the end.

It’s to a point where I suggest watching part of FMA 03, then pick up FMA:B where the former left off. You spend more time with the characters and their journeys. The art and music choices were arguably better in the 03 version around that point as well. And oh boy, when that one character dies, in 03 they see the aftermath first hand and get depressed, in Brotherhood they are told about what happened instead and get sad. At least, that’s how I saw it.

It came in 2009-2010 which was the lowest point in anime quality and FMAB looked like a gem relatively. There's nostalgia bias and there's also the forced-to-watch-watever-on-tv-prime-time-after-school-and-develop-stockholm-syndrome bias which favors shows like FMAB, Naruto, Death Note, Demon slayer etc but I digress

What is really important to remember is that Frieren and the Elves in general are not emotionless. They are simply different than humans because they live in a different time than humans.
Humans meet and get married and have a family within the first 30 years of our lives in most cases. An Elf doesn't have to be that constricted. They can pursue their hobbies for 500 years, meet someone nice during that time, spent a couple of centuries getting to know them, and then get married and have a family. It's the same thing a human does, but with a different time perception. And that is a normal elf's mentality. A normal Elf would have understood everything Himmel tried to convey to Frieren and all the things that he did for her that showed his love for her. But Frieren didn't pick on that. Why?
That is because Frieren is emotionally distant as you said. Frieren is not a reliable narrator and that is something most people miss when they see the show.
As we have established the Elves have emotions, the same range and with the same intensity as humans. Frieren's comment that the Elves don't have romantic and reproductive urges is wrong because that is her perception alone and this claim has already been debunked by the anime and manga. If they lacked romantic and reproductive urges then they would have gone extinct a long time ago because no new elves would be born and no families would exist. But that is not the case as we have seen that Frieren herself lived in a village with her family, and the village had families and more importantly CHILDREN. That means that the Elves do have romantic and reproductive urges. They are simply living in a different time than the rest of the races of this world such as humans and dwarves.
The reasons that the Elves are going extinct are different. The first reason is the near total war that the demons declared on them that led to a lot of casualties and the second is their different sense of time. While they do have reproductive urges and romantic feelings, because they live for so long it is not necessary for them to find a romantic partner and create a family within the first 2 to 3 decades of their lives as humans usually do, meaning that the birth rates of the Elven race are significantly lower compared to the other races. Add to that the war with the Demons for more than a millennia and you have a recipe for disaster. The elven population was decimated as a result of the genocidal war with the demons and the elves are now few and far between with their population dwindling and dying out. If they could get together and create a secluded community they might save their species, but that would be difficult because they would have to start actively searching the continent to find the remaining Elves and bring them together.
Now why is Frieren different than a normal Elf? That is because of the way she grew and lived. Frieren was the sole survivor of the attack on her village when she was a young girl. After that she lived with Flamme that taught her that the best possible way to fight effectively against demons is to be an unknown quantity. To hide her mana and to have never made a name for herself so that the demons would have never heard of her. While they visited towns and cities for supplies and news, they never interacted for anything more than shopping with anyone. So, Frieren's social skills and manners are nothing more than what is needed to interact civilly with another for work and shopping. After all, after Flamme's death she secluded herself in her forest and lived as a hermit. She only visited towns and kingdoms for supplies and news. Nothing more. She has no real idea how to behave around people, she had no real friendships or relationships of any kind until Himmel and his party pestered her to go with them. Himmel, Heiter and Eisen were the first real friends she had since Flamme! So, of course she didn't understand most of the things Himmel did for her! She didn't because she doesn't know even now what he really meant to her. It's only now that she has started to understand her own feelings and Himmel's feelings. That is the tragedy of their story. Being an Elf of course has it's own place in the story, giving us that different sense of time an elf has in contrast to a human, but it is really a combination of factors that led to the tragic love story we see before us.

The comparison is on the basis of understanding and feeling for a character that is fundamentally at odds with how we as humans perceive life itself. Both of them are either immortal (meaning in this case eternal - not undying) or at least so longlived, that we would consider them to be immortal. Both of them handle the same issue of disconnect, loss of loved ones and learning how to deal with it. One show is way more consistent in how the character is portraited and how they handle the situation, where the other is jumpy and changing constantly, which makes it way harder to get behind what the character is all about. In her defense, Galadriel was a lot yonger at that point, but that doesn't matter, because we wanted to explore the concept of how the eternal one handles the loss of loved ones.
The video makes a lot of cases on why Frieren is a masterclass in tackling this topic, where TRoP is not. Why Frieren as a character works and why Galadriel falls flat and fails. How an unknown show can outshine a series, where reputation and fandom precedes the inception of the series itself.
In my opinion it's not disrespectful at all - it's a love letter to the Frieren series as a whole. A showcase of an independent series where passion for the craft and the desire to tell a compelling story outweights the seemingly money-grubby-nature of many modern western series, that don't dare to create something new and only build upon existing stories. Simply put: Frieren puts The Rings of Power to shame.

I did the math for myself on how Frieren percieves time with humans.. It would be like a human (that lives for 80 years) remembering still almost every detail of a summer trip with a friend they only got to interact with for 4.8 months.. Still remembering even 2.4 years later (calculating about 30 yrs after himmels death,, and assuming the elf lives for 1000 yrs but of course they live for way longer so the blimp of that moment in the elf's view would be even shorter).. So short yet it affected her so much.
Also, Frieren is 1000+ years old, (as said in the fight against Aura) and some elves, like that Monk dude, still consider her "young"... Just imagine what is an old elf then.
I also think the age of their bodies might be similar to that of a human at a comparative age, instead of just a desing trait. I think that because Frieren didn't seem to be/act like an adult in the flashback that her village was destroyed, and also the other elf dude that seems a lot older than Frieren is, in fact, a lot older than her

Sorry, I have to disagree with you. Most of the negative reviews and review bombing of Frieren are still from FMA:B fans. You can literally check there newly created accounts every week to upvote FMAB and downvote Frieren with 1s. The only reason Frieren has stayed up so long is because there is equally a lot of new fans discovering the show and keep the scores high.
I believe it deserves the number one spot. Granted nothing is perfect, but I have yet to find a flaw in 17 episodes. Each episode maintains that quality and i can wholeheartedly recommend it over FMAB to a new fan.

I definitely wouldn't say it's "moved past" the initial concept of showing life through a long-lived elf. I feel like there are still moments in pretty much every episode that have to do with Frieren's growth, her approach to other people, and especially her dynamic with her new party vs her previous one. There's still an emphasis on the passing of time and what that does to people.

I think the answer is NOT YET. FMAB for me is the ideal anime production that we will never have. You have a complete story, proper pacing per episode, action sequences that mesh well with the characters' goals and worldbuilding, themes (I recommend Aleczander vids), top tier voice acting, and weekly releases. Everything in FMAB just clicks. They made the annoying chibi animation work in FMAB like wtf!
But if anyone could contest FMAB, I would pick Vinland Saga, Mushoku Tensei, and Fruit Basket. The only issue I have with Fririen is it hasn't end yet (anime wise) so there's a lot of room for it to fumble. Blame Game of Thrones as it made me skeptical a lot 😂

For that you have to have deep nuanced characters, incredible story, perfect world building and than something special that noone else has. FMPB is "just" 9-9,5/10 across the board in these regards.

@@jankyyard5610FMAB didn't have good pacing in the beginning because it assumed you've already watched the original FMA adaptation. It isn't as flawless as you might remember. It rushed through the story in order to get to the point where FMA left off. When ppl rate FMAB they often forget to keep the original FMA separate.
Right now, the underplot developing in the manga is the fall of the empire. The sword, the fallen ruins, the mage attrition. Just like with other themes in the story, Yamada drops little eggs here and there.
To say that something doesn't deserve a number 1 spot implies that some anime does in some objective metric, and none do. Not FMAB, not Gintama, not Bebop, not Eva, not any one show "deserves" to be number 1. It's a completely subjective list based on how much people generally like or dislike a show. To say "x show doesn't deserve this much of a positive response" will never not sound entitled and rude to me unless the thing itself is actively hateful or damaging, imo. I don't have an issue with saying "it's not my number one" or "I don't think it's the best anime ever made", but to put feet in the sand and say "I don't think it *deserves* it" is just a no from me dawg lol

What's crazy is that as highly rated as it is, on other sites it's actually behind Apothecary Dairies. Like even on just straight up Crunchyroll reviews, Apothecary has fewer episodes, but more reviews and a full 5.0 whereas Frieran is at 4.9. So while Frieran definitely I think will be in the running for #1, I think it's hard to know until the story is completely finished, because FMAB has a completely finished full storyline, not just "anime finished" where they wrap things up cus the manga is ongoing either. And I think that most of the anime in the top 10 overall should all be stories that we've seen to full real completion and still hold up the entire way through.
I hope we will get El Dorado arc adaptation one day. That arc is peak Frieren

Frieren is my favorite shows in about 8 years. I actually crave the new episode every Friday.
Is Frieren the #1 anime of all time? Probably not. Is FMA: Brotherhood the #1 anime of all time? Also, probably not. The true #1 anime, or at least the anime the majority of people really do consider to be worthy of the title, since subjectivity plays into this conversation more than any other factor, is probably one we haven't seen yet, or maybe we have. Get my point?
That being said, to play devil's advocate. I think what makes Frieren a contender for that title isn't necessarily that it's better than FMAB, AoT, Pluto, JJK, Monster (name whatever, I'm just listing some of my favorites and some of the top-rated shows side-by-side), but that it just doesn't have many flaws. Its premise is simple, its characters are very human but also not remarkable out-of-this-world characters (their characterization rocks, and they are perfect for this story, though), the plot is basic, most of the ideas have been used before, even its well-executed magic system isn't mostly original. Yet, I would argue it executes each and every one of those aspects to a near-perfect degree. There's just very little this show tries to do that it doesn't do without flaw, and if I had to guess, that's what makes it so easy to love this show/story and give it such a prestigious title. It may not be trying for a complex narrative with difficult themes and subject matter like Attack on Titan, or have the intricate conversational potential on humanity and what makes a person a person like FMAB does, or have the interesting nuances of evil present in Monster, or any number of other exceptionally well crafted pieces of media. But what it does do, it arguably does with little to no flaw, and that is something that will always work for the easily entertained and the over-analytical alike.
Frieren has flaws: it's boring and the design of the dwarf from Frieren's party looks like he's from a children bedtime story.

It's a cozy slice-of-life fantasy series that does what it needs to do spectacularly, in my opinion that is. And, not to relish in pulling this card, but most people do not consider this series boring. So, even though whether it's boring or not is a subjective matter, if a side had to be taken as more representative of the general consensus, it would be the side of us who enjoy this show's cozy pacing.
Also...why is the dwarf design being reminiscent of a children's bedtime story a bad thing? Unless you're arguing that such an art style is always bad and can never been fitting, then I can't imagine how you could find it to be out of place in a show with Frieren's art style. That just seems like a silly complaint that reads as more of a you problem than as anything actually wrong with the series.

After 400 animes Frieren it's the first anime that made me love the fcking OST. Just lay in bed hearing the ost and be in a another fcking word. Any anime can be a 10 if there's a good team behind. In one of your main channel videos you spoke about letting the anime release schedule passing you by with Frieren and you’re glad you did. An extended look, not frieren focused, on your take or choosing between staying faithful and not updated for 2024 would be dope.

I can't remember the last anime I enjoyed as much as Frieren to be honest.
Ironically Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is one of those I enjoyed a ton, like the Fairy Tail sub-story of Mavis and Zeref, and Noragami. Most shows in this genre I've seen hyped up are 90% fan-service or "No we have Konosuba at home" except it does everything Konosuba does, just slightly less good.
Frieren is one I plan to buy the DVDs for upon release to support the animators despite watching "unofficially" because they deserve the support, despite the fact I've seen all thus far for free. (I don't support Crunchyroll or Funimation after years of butchery)
In my opinion, it will go down as one of the greats as opposed to "just another X genre anime" like most of the seasonal stuff.
Not saying all seasonal stuff is bad, far from it, but few of them will be remembered as fondly by so many.
Maybe the plot may seem simple, but this is what allows you to create a development over time that you had never seen in an anime

The one manga I read and didn't expect to have anime adaptation was Fable, like, the manga works wonders, it's funny and cool. But the anime lack the points that makes the manga funny idk

I'm gonna be honest, the first-class mage test arc is not that good. It's kind of lacking in the main theme of the story as it dwelves more into world and character building like how the magic system works and the history of the continent. Instead of the time and stuff, but I guess it's not a bad thing. The character's Frieren meets are definitely going to show up again.

imagine at the end of story you can see Fern on her deadbed whisper to Frieren and old Stark of how beautiful of their adventures and not a single day she regretted to be travelling with them, and that last words hit Frieren so hard that for the first time in her thousand years of existence, she cries. then screen fade to black for a short period of time and then were shown a scene where Frieren just travel to someplace with the above text that said "1000 Years after the Great Mage Fern passed away"
Damn, i dunno whether im ready for that yet. Just imagining it from your comments, takes me quite taken aback, teary even (Im the type that hardly teared up). Perhaps, in terms of story longetivity, One Piece will certainly outlast Frieren, but this one goddamn ending you mentioned, it gives me more feels. Not saying OP is worse, but Frieren is just a masterstroke when it comes to making things simple yet very touching.

I also think emotional distancing is an elf thing because they're fully aware that they're outliving almost everyone else so they naturally develop a need to guard themselves from loss. Siere also does it except she keeps lying to herself out loud whereas everything on the scene (flowers, vivid imagery of her student, etc.) says otherwise. It's kinda depicting the inner struggle: "Oh I didn't cared about Flamme I just picked her up on a whim" is a sentence she says twice as if she's trying to convince herself.
I wonder how many people have the L take of not liking the "emotions discovery" trope. XD
I can understand not liking kuuderes, altho I personally love them, but that trope is like having a kuuderes with character development on top, what's not to like, I guess it depends on how well the execution is done.
And I guess I can relate to it since I am socially awkward myself...

@@sulpherbratigh7936 Does it make a difference if I add "more" to the trope, or if I say human emotions, in the end of the day I was referring more to the trope itself than Garnt's relating Frieren to the trope.
Besides, she was still confused about her feeling when crying and still is to this day (at least on the anime), reflecting on her 10 years journey seems to be the whole point of the new journey to begin with.

its a great series but for an unfinished series to sit at the top just doesnt sound right. it has potential to finish in the top 5 once its finished but it seems near impossible for a series to stick the landing aka have a good ending. cant wait to see what comes next
Emotionless is harsh. I think she struggles to express them but she does have moments of showing them like treasure, new grimoire and mimics

Freiren has a very very simple premise. The way MADHOUSE executed it into anime is just EXCELLENT.

The 2D animation was great, and the art-style was awesome too. I really enjoyed the anime and everything they did is amazing, I don't think degrading the animation would be good. Actually the emotions and all the "silent" moments can be manifested to that degree thanks to the animation. If the animation of the Sou sou no Frieren anime was worse then the rating was gonna be lower aswell, and I think people wouldn't enjoy it as much.
In the end if everything is perfect and the people who did the anime really loved it it can be seen, so an easy 10/10 rating from me & one the best anime I've ever watched. Cheers! :D
