plz before attempting this repair WARNING 80% chance you will damage your LCD. for anyone that does repairs regularly you know that this is a very very very tough job and takes practice to do without damaging or breaking LCD or scratching or damaging backlight. the Risk for this repair is very high. Usually we train our technicians to try 10 + times on broken screens before doing the job on a working screen .
Good job, I have a display issue, don't think I would attempt this.
Hi @Master Liu this tutorial is really awesome! I just wonder if this process will work also for 15inch Macbook Pro 2017?
that's super crazy workmanship
Simply extending the cable is the simplest, safest, and most practical fix for this problem. I wouldn't advise it unless you're refurbishing a lot of screens.
Hi I have the same problem and I want to repair it like you, where did you buy the cable and the Air Slice tool ? 😊
Very interesting video. Where do I can find only the cable to be replaced?
Hi there just wondering where you buy the splitter for separating lcd panel and the backlight? can you provide the name of it since I don't know how to search on Taobao. Cheers.
What protective plastic did you use?
does this procedure work for the 15" model.
My problem is that my display has backlight. But no image, only shows some random vertical lines or sometimes work if I put in a 30-degree angle, it's the same model, do you know if can I change the display cable of this model?
Does this method work for the 15 inch version?
Hello Master Liu where I buy the film to protect the display?
this doesn't look like too bad of a job. do you have links to all the things I'd need to perform this?
whats the link for the cable ?!
this method is suitable for repair A1706 A1708 ?
Takes skill... Very impressive!
Wow. I'm in the process of fixing a few MacBook Pro 2019 models with a variety of display issues. This seems extremely convoluted... It is most likely cheaper to send it in for repair than to spend hours trying to fix it myself.
Are u in Houston tx? My 2018 macbook pro has pink screen. Need your expertise to repair ...
pls whr can get the flexgate backlight cable to buy?
Nice Work! Bro
oh lord, I was hoping that it would be easier to change the flex cable, but its Apple shouldn't be surprised TBH.
Louis Rossmann wants to know your location.
Louis won't do this sh#t himself he's way to busy but maybe his employees will.
@@someoyou I honestly don't believe Louis would touch this kind of work. It's insane!
Amazing comment
But what about 15 inch? 2016-18. Same construction?
Where can I get the kit? And can you list the part number that you used?
Amaxing job
Great Work!

Do you replace the cable with the short one or the longer one?
way shorter
Hey. I have "MacBook 12-inch A1534". There is some problem with the screen. Screen works perfectly as certain tilt but if I move it, the screen vanishes. I think fault lies in connecting cable. Can the cable be repaired for the said model ?
If the issue is exactly what you are saying, Apple will service it for free. Please go to a service centre.

Got to the apple store and get it fixed for free
@@rrrglynn How many days did you left your MBP at the Apple before it was ready? thanks
@@vidnidrew6304 About 5 or 6 days. I forget if they fixed it in the store or not but I believed they did fix it there. That makes a difference whether they have the parts or not. They may send it out if they don't. Obviously with the current crisis going on, unless you're in China the best way to get it fixed would be to mail it to an Apple Repair Center at this point. Get on the phone or chat right now and they will take care of it for free.
@@rrrglynn same problem on my mbp 2017 13 inch
it isnt under the stupid recall programme
It seems easy, but... I think that it's hard. Could you replace this cable with another one longer than original? (like MBP 2018)?
Yes, you can. The 2018 cables work on 2016-2017 models. As for how easy, using Air Slice helps a lot. You’ll get it after fixing a few machines.
Thanks!! Good job (sorry for my English, but I'm Italian) @@masterliu1892
I too would like to perform this repair. How do I buy the parts as well as the Air Slice tool. Do you sell this as a kit?@@masterliu1892
Easy? He'll no
I just want to ask anyone what’s the worse can it be? Dark bottom strips that covers the dock? Is that’s the case, I will just use external monitor and leave it
Thatsvthe difference between laptop and desktop. You can use at home, but cannot carry the monitor.
This is impressive and super risky. Nice job damn
My gawd. Both my lenovo 15 yr ideapad and 7 yr old lenovo y50 nvr had such prob.
Hello. I also have trouble on my Macbook Pro 2017, touch bar. A year ago, it starts flickering. I do not have enough money to fix it by LCD replacement. So, what I did was when the screen starts to flicker I just close it for a few hours and use it again. It takes only 15mins before flickering again, so, as I student its kinda hassle. Then, there was this online friend of mine who told me that I do not need to have an LCD Replacement, I just need to fix the flex. So, I want to ask you, if ever I fix the flex on my laptop is it a good move? Or do I really need to have an LCD replacement?
you wrote the answer you are looking for inside your own reply, brilliant
老板,屏幕拆机片哪买的,找遍淘宝也没找到同款

Same problem here. Black horizontal line at the bottom. Apple should offer an extended warranty program to address the issue.
support.apple.com/13-inch-macbook-pro-display-backlight-service
you mean this one?
Unnecessary complex and time and money spend just for a design flaw, also this fix is only temporal cause it’s gonna happen again ...
Some 3rd parties are making longer cables so that would really be the only time its worth doing this
Which is exactly why I am fixing mine then selling the piece of crap on ebay. Someone gave it to me and it looks a brand new machine except for the @%##$ bars down the middle of screen. What garbage they make that within 2 or 3 years your LCD is done. Going to cost $300.
am facing similar problem ..too annoying I can't fully bend my screen
Guys the same shit happend to me how much was the cost of fixing it. Smh 🤦♂️
If you have bars down the screen it’s no the backlight flex causing it. RIP LCD more like it
This is insane
i need this flexgate can anyone help me with it please
Sure go online and search macbook flex cable for 13 inch
Dont think I can do this. It does show how apple has forced us with the flexgate defect to buy the entire lcd panel from $300 to $600.
Im going to ask apple to fix it for free like they did with 13inch models.
This is truly made me not buy any more MacBook Pros.
But I will most likely fix my current A1707 15 inch model suffering from the flexgate issue to have it as a backup system.
Ive already bought a Suface Pro 8 in the meanwhile to use while I fix or get fixed my defective MacBook Pro 15 inch A1707 system I paid close to $3k for in 2017.
Long fingernails are essential tools.

I opened these models, and many new models with special kind of solvent made by New Zealand company and it doesn't require heat either risking anything and much easier. in Auckland, I can do that ...
Pls share your experience 🙏
@@anselmosahlin3057 don’t have UA-cam channel, also the solvent I used made by Xyten is a kind of adhesive remover but you need to be careful not use much to leak inside of LCD layers. I say total need is 2 drops for each vertical side n 3 drops for top n bottom. Of course I used an old style blade. This kind of razor still in market n cheap, I remember in 80 first time shaved face with these razors. You first bend blade and make it half then use cissors and narrow the half like little knifes. Exactly like those triangles surgeries blade.
nope.
Let me not bother asking for where to find you :(
That's some clear bullcrap apple flaw
Thanks Apple, for making these repairs so easy! SMH.
Apple came out with a free repair program for 2016 MacBook Pros so don’t fix it yourself yet
That is only for 13 inch macbooks, Not yet for 15 inch ones.
Minh Vu they didn’t take mine because it has a minor dent in the corner, even tho it has nothing to do with the flex cable
And how can we address apple for13inch 2016 MacBook Pro models?
mine is a 2017 13inch. they dont offer support
Mine had a dent not related to it too and was initially advised at the service center that they had to charge because of this. I called the Apple hotline and spoke to a specialist, they had me send the pictures and video of my computer and listened to my appeal (I was really dramatic). They ended up considering and did not charge me for anything.

You can hear Apple go muhahaha
yeah.... Just replace the whole thing....
Apple care changing the screen for free great company thanks Apple 🙏
This is very risky but cheap
Ok no. Apple must fix this. I still have my old MBP 2015 Retina with 800+ cycles and still kicking ass. This new one with 170 cycles stops working because of a design flaw. No MAC user needs to go through this after paying 2.5K for a machine that is going to last... What? A year...? tops? Ridiculous...
I know. Apple is scamming their loyal users. The plan was to make a couple billion on repairs before the 2019 models came out. This is 100% without a doubt a purposeful design flaw to get people to pay the repair costs.
@@JMRabil675 I took both my computers, old 2015 MBP Retina having "stain gate" and my 2017 MBP TB having "flex gate" and I got both screens replaced at zero dollars. So I don't know where you are getting this info. My experience was positive and I can't speak badly against them at this point. As I see it, even car manufacturers recall their own products to fix issues they find down the road that could potentially kill people...
@@olman.morales 13 or 15 inch?
@@bluequest1868 2015 MBP 13" and 2017 MBP 15"
@@olman.morales Hello did you get your 2017 display replaced for free because you had applecare+ or due to the warranty that it comes with (that you do not have to purchase separately)?
Use the frozen machine, will be faster and cleaner. This tutorial is for selling the Air Slice stuff. This is only good for cheapskate which will wasting more time and just replace the whole assembly. Please do not try if you have money to buy the MacBook. LoL... Rossman won't tricked to do this job.
If successfully done after putting all this work and putting the $700 screen at risk, the flexgate problem will reappear again after normal repeated use. KEEP buying more apple.
I’ll stick with my old ass 2015 macbook pro
My 2016 15" mbp tb also has this problem ¨flexgate¨ they want to charge me 950 usd. Come on apple dont be greedy and irresponsiblle with your clients, dont wait more to extend the warranty for us all . Hope the class action lawsuit of the butterfly keyboards wins , so all of us can ask for new laptops that actually work and dont brake!!!
Did you ever get it sorted out? My 2016 has the same problem.
😶
don't buy the touch bar
Hell no buy the screen!! It'll crack so easy
Yes. You’re right bro. Its not easy to separate the lcd without cracking
Well they don't make changing a cable very easy.
