MacBook Pro A2159 2019 lines, weird image and no display (dust gate repair)

- Do you have weird lines?
Do you have pink screen?
Do you have no display?
Do you have a distorted image on your MacBook?
Well, all these issues are related to the screen flexgate. Since Apple remodeled the Macbook in 2016 they replaced the screen cable with a flex cable so it would take less space in the new MacBook design, and by compromising with this transition they also compromised with their quality.
Here is my previous video where I explain why this is happening:

Do you know if this has caused issues with the touch bar, or could it? I may have an extreme case of this or it may be something else, i took mine camping and it was in very dirty conditions. It turns on and i can get it into voice over mode but no screen or touch bar.
Sir Thanks for the very good information video, can you give me a link so I can buy these Flex cable scraper tools and jumper cable, help me out Thanks
It’s help full for me
Nice job. I also do these repairs and the only thing I'm curious about is why you scrape and solder ALL the traces ? Most of the time it's clear which trace needs to be repaired, I would leave the other ones alone.
That being said, I still have a couple of screens where I can't find the fault so soldering all the traces ( or several) might work 😀
Thanks, exactly, you never know where the dirt made a micro crack in the rails so, it’s better to just do them all so the costumer doesn’t return for another same repair.
I have been able to do this successfully myself a few times now but have also had a few times now where a very slight flicker remained visible. In the flicker I saw the apple logo that you normally see during startup. And if I move my mouse the flicker is gone until I hold the mouse still again. Any idea what this could be due to?
Thank you so much for such a great vid 😊 What is the cable that needs replacing here? I ordered an LCD flex cable for an a1989 macbook. It looks different to the one you repair, alot thinner and theres 2 of them.
Thank you in advance!
Hi, I didn’t replace the cable in the video, you can rewatch the video.
To replace the flex cable, you will need to remove the screen from the lid which there is a very high risk of cracking the screen.
How much is this repair typically?
That is an interesting repair; I usually just change the LCD because I can fix the LCD Panel in 27 minutes and for most of the units I repair that have this issue, the LCD is $100-$150; the labor cost that I would charge to do it this way would be more than the cost of those LCDs.
But if I ever come across one with a more expensive screen that just has this issue, I may be inclined to try this method.
I have a 2017 Macbook Pro and a 2018 MacBook Pro. Can I just swap the LCDs to fix this on the 2018?
@@seanwalsh5717An A1706 and A1708 have compatible LCDs, but they aren't compatible with the A1989, A2159, A2289, or A2251, however (I believe) those four all use the same LCD, but none of them are compatible with the A2338.
how much will it cost to fix it
Great video! What is he using to scrub off the cable's rubber layer?
A blade 😃
Hi, I have a M1 13 inch and the screen is black with backlight on. Displays ok on external screen. The ribbon seems in good condition. Do you think this might be a different issue, for example the t-con board? I have done such flex cable repair in the past and know what to look for on those bulges in flex ribbon caused by dust, but this flex is 100% intact.
i have a m1 14” it just happened randomly to me this morning. have that weird black / white icon on my display now and can’t see shit. luckily I bought apple care+ til 2025. never had this happen to me on any macbook before. ugh.
daaamn, finally I know whats wrong. But I am like 100% sure no one in my country is gonna da that kind of repair.. meaning display-replacement it is :(
Hi, you can send your MacBook for repair.
Please contact me, contact info in the description.
Awesome job on the repair! I have this same problem with my 2019 16", however I mainly use it with an external display. It stopped working with my display and I thought it was dead, then I connected it today and it's randomly working again. Do you think if I use it with the external display and keep the laptop closed it should last for another 6 months, or is it likely to go out at any time?
Hi, it’s not Gina get any worse 😅.
It should work for as long as you want if you are ok with working like that .
@@iTouch-repair true lol, I guess my concern is that the laptop will stop recognizing the external display and then I will be stuck without a laptop at the worst time when some important work is pending.
I thought that is what happened but then weeks later I connected it and it worked again with the display. Are these two issues related or is it nothing to be concerned about if I keep the laptop closed at all times and keep it connected to the display?
@@mushroomthump it’s better to keep it closed so you don’t damage the flex more (it’s gonna be easier to repair).
They are not related, the screen stopped working because of a break in the flex, the external monitor works off of the GPU, it should be ok.
Man I don't have them skills, amazing! But I can add that its always advisable to separate plastic from glass with thin plastic.
When you separated the bezel, a thin laminate of plastic might have been more helpful :)
Thanks for sharing...don't think I'm brave enough for that, yet
Hi, thank you.
Regarding the bezel, at first I tried with thin laminate plastic but, when you apply heat it melts.
Also it doesn’t have the hardness to separate. With the tool I am using in the video, I can separate the bezel leaving the double sided scotch which makes it easier to clean.
If your screen good now, u should protect the flex with tape
Hi, I was hoping you could help..... I was trying to replace the bezel strip on the bottom of screen of a A2159. My tool went to deep and I have torn some of the yellow/gold cable strips. Can these be repaired/replaced?
Hi, unfortunately no, I am sorry for your lost 😢
I have the same problem
Hey there, great repair. This was just the video i needed💪
Wich diameter solding threat do you use ?
More likely it is the diameter of the jumperwire you are using
@@havoerredIHD Hey, thanks.
The diameter is 0.008mm.
You can find it on aliexpress.
@@iTouch-repair thanks alot, thats a damm thin wire 😅👍🏼
@@havoerredIHD thinnest in the world 🤏🏻

Good afternoon,I’m having the same problem on a 2019 MacBook Pro Touch Bar , will you be able to fix it ,if I send you my Mac I’m happy to pay for your work :) I live in the uk
Hi, please contact me, my contact information in the description
You should repair that one line and clean the dirt...
I am facing in my MacBook pro 2017. A1708
That's same as my MBP. A1708 is my macbook type. I just had the problem since yesterday and it's flickering when the MBP is warm 😢 it's usually not like that. When i turn it off for hours and then turn it on again, the screen is normal but after 30 mins it comes back again 😢
Hi. I've done one today and it works but.. When you move cursor then the screen is ok but when you leave it and there is nothing "moving" on the screen then it starts to flicker. When you play a video then all is good too.. Do you know what could it be?
Check the other flex it could in multiple places.
Like iTouch said, it must be another trace that not clearly visible. I also have these issues with some screens.
I tried to pinpoint the trace by measuring all the points on the t-con board and comparing to a known-good screen, but could not find a clear indication. Maybe I'm measuring the t-con instead of the screen that way.
You can buy 100$ lcd without backlight , and replace that
You didn’t mention the repair cost 100$ plus replacement!
@@iTouch-repair your work that you show coast less than 150$? You do it with warranty . 4 months? 6 months?
@@Fix2fast I meant the 100$ screen cost plus shipping plus you need to find it for your model for the price you are suggesting plus the flex for the backlight plus the backlight issue is only in the A1706-A1707-A1708 not in the new models.
I do this repair for free for you, if you want to send in I live in Ukraine, please send it if you can.
For fred .???

How much do you charge to fix this? And why not just buy the flex gate cable ? I think that’s what is called lol but hey ur amazing with the skills 🤌🏾💯
Hi, regarding the price please contact me, contact info in the description.
As for the flex, it goes under the screen and in order to reach it, you need to disassemble the screen from the case and I don’t think that it’s quite safe.
