This is a NOT a pro mother song and whoever asked for it to be done on Mother's days obviously has a weird relationship with their mother or they don't get the song either.
Do yourself a BIG favor, watch The Wall, the movie as well as the music are a masterpiece, it will make for a great reaction video for sure. and not to top it or rival it, it is very much worth the time to watch the wall live in berlin, with roger waters and a bunch of very cool artists giving their versions while a wall is being build on stage.

"mother's gonna make all your nightmarss come true mother's gonna put all her fears in to you mother's gonna keep you right here, under her wing she won't let you fly but, she might let you sing" this is NOT a love letter to a mother. this is the accounting of the dysfunction in Pink's life and upbringing that, brought him to his descent into madness and breakdown. THAT is the basis/undercurrent of the story that The Wall tells.
True, even the very last line "Mother did it need to be so high?" (the wall), so chilling to think how Pink started to see the toxic effects of Mother sprouting from the seemingly loving care and attention she gave him.

Basically, it’s about Mother-Son enmeshment. The psychiatric term for Mama’s Boy. Written by Roger Waters. Supposedly about his Mother. An extremely disturbing song. 😔 I feel for any man that has (or had) such an overbearing and smothering Mother. No man wants to have this kind of mother. This song is not about Rog’s mother. He’s talked openly about his mother many times, and every time he has amazing things to say. He just understood the dangers of an overprotective matriarchal figure in a kid’s life.

It’s commendable how Polo is seemingly grounded, and adjusted to his place in this world, all the while admitting an absence of a nurturing Mother. Check out Pink Floyd "Goodbye Blue Sky" from the Wall album. The way they transition in and out of beautiful and hopeful to dark despair is really cool.
Polo, I was touched by your comments about your youth, and having no family. My story is different, but troublesome as well. Wish I could buy you a cup of coffee, but I’m older and retired and on “fixed” income. Love watching you your reactions AND your vibe. You’re an awesome human being and did a great job raising yourself, sir. Best always!
Hey man, I really like your reaction videos because you're very honest about the way you feel about a song - and you have pretty damn good taste in music. I don't know if anybody's told you to watch the movie "The Wall" but there's a context to every single song in the record. Watching the movie will expand the way you look at each and every song I swear to God. Their old Singer went completely insane because he dropped too much acid and a lot of their following albums were about him losing his mind. His name was Syd. The band all watched him lose his mind and it affected them very deeply. The wall is kind of about that, and his upbringing, as is dark side of the moon, as a lot of their stuff. It's kind of a slow depressing movie but it'll really will change your entire opinion about ALL of the songs that are on the album and it only makes them that much better. It joins every song together with a common theme. I guess "Shine on You crazy diamond" is the song that's most directly based on him but if you like Pink Floyd enough to spend the time to watch it, I swear you will like it more when you're done.
I got to see Roger Water perform The Wall several years back in Boston, at the part where it goes "Mother should I trust the government?" the entire arena yelled "nooo" lol. Great show.
You absolutely HAVE to watch the movie!!!!!!! it will completely change the way you hear PF forever....It's an amazing movie. It won 2 BAFTA awards and is regarded by Floydians as the thing that changed music forever!
This is off the album, "The Wall", which is a movie as well. It's a cult classic. It's all the songs off the album, animated at times, and none of the band members are seen in the movie. It is free on youtube.
it's all good Polo! You found yourself a nice big family right here, brother!!! And as I'm sure countless others have mentioned - this isn't a song about an ideal mother/son relationship. This was an unhealthy relationship where the mother was controlling and overprotective to the point of toxicity. The album and concept of The Wall was the sheltered barrier that she helped him erect around himself as she deprived him of a normal childhood. Upon going out in the world, The Wall became not just a defensive barrier, but made it impossible to function and relate to others and the world. That last line was him asking rhetorically did you really need to make that wall so high? The song "Hey You" is a song that depicts how he is trapped inside the wall, yearning to have human contact, but his fears and anxieties, that was fostered as a child has made it hard for him to know how to lower that defense and cope. He's calling out to those on the outside asking for them to save him before he's lost forever.
The lyrics of this song are crystal clear as to what the dynamic of this relationship is.. Because it's in the form of a lullaby they see it as something positive. People are so easily distracted and therefore are quite easily manipulated... I've checked out dozens of reaction videos to this song, so far no one has gotten what the relationship is between mother and son in this case but these are Americans after all not the most educated people on the planet.. probably why 17 other countries graduate more scientists than they do !🇨🇦
"mother do ya think they'll drop the bomb?" really interesting reaction. this band goes deep, psychologically. you're on it, thanks. "mother will she tear your little boy apart?" damn.
The Bomb question is part of the backstory - that the mom lost her husband (the boy's father) from the war (WWII) and has imparted all her fears etc onto the boy as she smothers him with overprotective nature all because of her fears and insecurities of not wanting to lose him either.
As said his father had died in World War II. But by the time Pink was questioning things we were into the Cold War. And despite being closer today than we were then, life was much different. And being nuked was always in the back of our mind. In school they taught us to bend over and kiss our ass goodbye. I mean duck under the desk. ✌️🤠🏞️🐂
Goodbye Blue Skies is another great song from The Wall. I encourage everyone to watch the movie, The Wall. It roughly follows the childhood of "Pink" (aka Roger Waters) as he tries to make his way in post-war England without his father, who was killed in the war. I think film is a masterpiece, and it really helps to explain the songs that might otherwise seem nonsensical.
@@ShannonKoch-j5d so sorry shannon... hanging with your freinds and getting high didnt give you any deep insight SOME of their songs are about sid barret they are ALSO the ones about drugs. the OTHER 75% of their songs are about neither...
There is a live version of this available on UA-cam, from a 1981 The Wall concert (I think). It has an unbelievable, extended Gilmour solo that is well worth listening to.
Polo...Thank you for sharing a piece of your story with us..Bless you brother. I Enjoy your tastes, insights, and understanding of the music I've always held dear to my heart....for each of us have their own, personal connection to certain songs... sometimes in a very thoughtful, poignant way.. we are never truly alone ...although some of us, most have us, have those moments when we feel like we are...We are all brothers and sisters....❤
huh,.. this song is about how his mother suppressed and tortured him,.. how could someone ask for this on mother's day,. that would be like asking for Goodbye Blue Skies on sept 11,..
Roger's and David's voices play off eachother nicely on this song (and on a few other songs from The Wall as well), with Roger singing the verses, and David singing the role of the mother in the choruses. Other noteable examples of this is Hey You, Run Like Hell, and Comfortably Numb (all from The Wall) and Dogs from the preceding album Animals. Supposedly the main requirement when hiring Guy Pratt as a bassist after Roger left the band was that "you've gotta be able to sing Roger's parts on Run Like Hell, otherwise you wont get the job" :p
One of my favorite bands of all time. I know you do these reactions one at a time, which is great for most things, but The Wall really needs to be experienced from beginning to end. The meaning of the album, is that a psychological wall between the main character and the rest of the world is gradually built "brick by brick" by various negative people and experiences over the course of his life. From the abusive school master, the overbearing mother, the loss of his father in World War II, and other things that are revealed in each of the songs, a man slowly isolates himself from the world until he is "Comfortably Numb", but finally in the end, all of his insecurities are exposed and the wall comes crashing down. You should also watch the film they made based on the album. The animation is incredible and will help you understand the meaning behind the songs. Enjoy!
This is a darker shade of motherhood. A beautiful song that touches the heart of pain as so many Pink Floyd songs do.....May you savor an endless flow of blessings for your many years to come....
How did you turn out so awesome without the live you deserved as a child? You may not have heard this before; buy, I am proud of the person you have become! You are increadibly strong and have over come the crap hand you were dealt with stars...❤❤❤❤
This song always gets me in my feels every time I hear it. As my mother got older we had decisions to make on if she should go into assisted living. I was not ready to have her go to that level yet so I had her come live with me for a few years. While she lived with me, I enjoyed introducing her to my music. Pink Floyd is my favorite band so of course she got a thorough introduction to them. Of all the songs, this one was one of her favorites so it definitely made our music rotation. Sadly, my mother passed a few years ago. Every time I hear this song now, it gets me so emotional. That’s what great songs do! Love you mom!!
When the Berlin Wall came down, Roger Waters arranged a concert there. He invited different musicians to go and sin Floyd songs. Sinead O'Connor gave an amazing performance of this song. (Listen to her "Nothing Compares 2 U" first if you haven't already, to have an idea of who she is)
2-3 years ago. Roger Waterside a version of this ( in covid isolation ) with his new band that's really cool.. The female backup singers are singing the women's parts.
Our upbringing and our lives could not be more different. I grew up with the music from the 60’s and 70’s you are just now exploring. To hear your appreciation for it and your willingness to explore music well outside of your comfort zone is inspiring. You have developed and open mind despite the challenges you faced in your youth and your efforts are truly fantastic. Keep on keeping on Polo.
Roger wrote this song about himself and his mother. After losing his father when only 5 months old, his mother wrapped him in cotton wool and suffocated the life out of him..... all in the name of love and safety.
@polo Thing about this song and the others on The Wall album is they are part of a whole story the album tells. Many consider this to be Pink Floyd's greatest work. You ought to listen to the entire album.
This is the song that always got me. Especially now that I’m a mother of a son I can’t get through it without a tear or two! Have you listened to Onnthe Turning Away from Pink Floyd? Such a beautiful song of hope that we desperately need now in this world! Thanks!
Hey Polo, As a Time travelling Mother, Father, be you, true, strong and honest for your child and keep travelling, Love and Peace 🏴🏴🏴🏴❤️💙💜
You need to experience the video / film story of Pink in The Wall, watching how the band saw the album..... from a gen x viewpoint, eisuals / gr8 sounds.
Saw this in concert at the Nassau Coliseum in NY on Long Island. The stage show is like have never seen then or since. When this song played. They started building The Wall behind the band till it was 33ft tall and 260ft wide, almost the width of the Coliseum. 3 stories high almost a football wide. Amazing experience!
May The LORD Bless you and Keep you. You are a Man with a heart of Truth. Regardless of being deprived of a mom and dad in your childhood, alone, and that weighs heavy on my heart, you reflect the characteristics of a Man that had a Spiritual Godly hand that loved and held you accountable in your upbringing and that you knew who that was and who loved you,.... and you loved and gave back, which speaks volumes. The love you share is proof that God's words and plans did not fall on deaf ears. Stay strong. Jesus loves you.
My favorite song by this group....internal wonderings mixed with life questions layed over an incredible mix of instrumentals.....topped with the struggle to break out of smothering of your childhood

When I was 4yrs old Mom complained about her side hurting, went to hospital and came back 9 months later with no hands or feet and no legs below the knees or arms below elbows...she was much sicker than anyone thought and died 4x on the surgery table but came back and kicked ass and was a mother as good as she could be to 5 kid's!..You opening up opened me up dude and it's rough right now but that's ok and it's going to be alright dude 😎

"Hey You" is another good song from The Wall.
No one shall ever be good enough for this Mom
Uh what
This song is about a Mother who just won’t let her grown up ’baby’ go into the real world.
Your perpetual motion machine went particularly well with this song. Great reaction.
This is one of the greatest concept albums of all time and the movie really helps understand whats going on song to song and the story
And thanks for having an open mind cuz a lot of people don't now.
Watching you appreciate a band I have loved for over 40 years for the first time is a real treat. Especially waiting for those solos to kick in haha
I got to see Roger Water perform The Wall several years back in Boston, at the part where it goes "Mother should I trust the government?" the entire arena yelled "nooo" lol. Great show.
When I was in the fifth grade I used to sneak my dad's Wall album and play Mother over and over.
You absolutely HAVE to watch the movie!!!!!!! it will completely change the way you hear PF forever....It's an amazing movie. It won 2 BAFTA awards and is regarded by Floydians as the thing that changed music forever!
The show must go on....
Great choice! Such a simple song to play, but the chord progression and flow of this song is so incredible! One of my favorites to play ❤🎵
This is off the album, "The Wall", which is a movie as well. It's a cult classic. It's all the songs off the album, animated at times, and none of the band members are seen in the movie. It is free on youtube.
''All of their songs are different but still have that signature sound''. Well put and an amazing reaction!
it's all good Polo!
"look mummy!... there's an airplane up in the sky.."
I disagree. It's about Sid Barrett and his descent into madness just like much of their catalog. Their music is mostly either about that or drugs.
@@ShannonKoch-j5d so sorry shannon... hanging with your freinds and getting high didnt give you any deep insight
SOME of their songs are about sid barret
they are ALSO the ones about drugs.
the OTHER 75% of their songs are about neither...
Pink Floyd maybe my favorite band. Gilmore one of the best guitarists I've ever heard. Yep, I'm from that time.
You are 100% correct... Pink Floyd is always and will always be undefeated!
There is a live version of this available on UA-cam, from a 1981 The Wall concert (I think). It has an unbelievable, extended Gilmour solo that is well worth listening to.
I’ve noticed you’ve become a big Tool fan 👍& when I describe Tool to people who aren’t aware of them that “Tool is sorta like a heavy Pink Flyod”….
Over 40 year fan . Love it.❤🎉🕊️❤️🙏
huh,.. this song is about how his mother suppressed and tortured him,.. how could someone ask for this on mother's day,. that would be like asking for Goodbye Blue Skies on sept 11,..
Amazing song. This guitar solo is considered one of the greats.
Fun song to play as a novice guitar player. And an experienced one😊
❤3rd best selling album of all time.
Such a moving song. Beautiful melodies, beautiful vocals.
Enjoy!
every Floyd album is a complete work... virtually none of their tracks are meant to be listened to in isolation, even if they can be ;)
This is a darker shade of motherhood.
My favorite PF song... 🎯
Heddwch / Peace brother in the native tongue of the Cymry, ancient Britons. Your spirit shines out and vibrates good energy. Respect.
LOL. For Mother's Day? Wow!
Roger wrote this song about himself and his mother.
After losing his father when only 5 months old, his mother wrapped him in cotton wool and suffocated the life out of him..... all in the name of love and safety.
Ironically reminds you of "The Waterboy" 😆
@@freakiestshayms Not a coincidence..... Roger is a Waters kind of guy.
The Wall is a great album it belongs in every classic rock fans collection
Amen. Beautiful Lyrics ❤️🕊️. Love me some Floyd. FOREVER.
@polo Thing about this song and the others on The Wall album is they are part of a whole story the album tells. Many consider this to be Pink Floyd's greatest work. You ought to listen to the entire album.
Brings tears to my eyes no matter how many times i listen my whole house decoraed in floyd the art is also legendary
My favorite Pink Floyd song
This is the song that always got me. Especially now that I’m a mother of a son I can’t get through it without a tear or two! Have you listened to Onnthe Turning Away from Pink Floyd? Such a beautiful song of hope that we desperately need now in this world! Thanks!
Another very moving PF song.
I am enjoying your presentations. Pink Floyd is my favorite band. You touched my heart today.
God bless you, Polo. Sounds like you got a good head on your shoulders. Love what you do. We are all family here! Keep rockin' brotha
It´s time for "Echoes" live @ pompeji - greets from austria
Saw this in concert at the Nassau Coliseum in NY on Long Island. The stage show is like have never seen then or since. When this song played. They started building The Wall behind the band till it was 33ft tall and 260ft wide, almost the width of the Coliseum. 3 stories high almost a football wide. Amazing experience!
Mother did it need to be so high?
One of my favorite guitar solos ever.
BLESS YOU BRO Polo!!! I too listened to MOTHER on Mother's day. I always think of Syd Barret and mourn!!!
You've turned out to be a good gentle man, so all power to you!!
I have a similar childhood experience.
Much love to you, my friend.
Welcome to the machine is a great song
It be awesome to see a Pink Floyd - Marooned reaction. My fav band of all time and I feel this Instrumental masterpiece gets overlooked. ❤
You give me chills, man. Love re-experiencing these songs with you. Peace!
Pink Floyd are rock Gods nobody can do what they did I remember friends coming over and smoking and drinking All nite to these albums simply roc Gods
❤thanks for being who you are and for lowering your wall a bit.
My favorite song by this group....internal wonderings mixed with life questions layed over an incredible mix of instrumentals.....topped with the struggle to break out of smothering of your childhood
