Richard was so underated. Animals and wish you were here was his best work in my opinion. He really gave pink floyd the emotions and little eerie sounds. True genius
So the "long note" you're hearing is actually Roger's vocals fading out and being blended with Rick on the synthesizer. It's perfectly mixed so you can't tell where his voice ends and the synth begins.
The part that sounds like "church prayer" is a prayer from the sheeps point of view. "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want He makes me down to lie Through pastures green he leadeth me the silent waters by With bright knives he releaseth my soul He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places He converteth me to lamb cutlets For lo, he hath great power and great hunger When cometh the day we lowly ones Through quiet reflection and great dedication Master the art of karate Lo, we shall rise up And then we'll make the bugger's eyes water." Pink Floyd is amazing!
Nice! Yes, those were keyboards. Richard shines on keyboards. He's a keyboard master. In Welcome to the machine, his keyboards cut through the heart with such pain that you cannot forget it. Of course with all the other Pink Floyd candies. This is definitely a song you should be reacting to next.

They played all of Animals took a short break and then played all of Wish You Were Here and then came out and played half of Dark Side of The Moon for their encore with the original four members!!! That concert is one of about 100 I've seen in my life and the most amazing one I've seen and the only one where my wife and I drove all the way home and didn't say a word!!! The giant pig; the flock of sheep floating down over the crowd; opening the show with their private jet flying sooooo low over the stadium that the fined-big time for that. I heard they were banned from playing in Cleveland for a few years for that one. It was reported that there was 97000 tickets sold for the concert...the old Cleveland Municipal stadium seated 83000 ( 88000 with standing room ) but the whole field was filled with fans. Saw people falling down when used the surround sound around the top of the stadium ( I'm pretty sure they chemically enhanced... we were!
@@gregorysimmers I was really lucky!! Saw them at the madhouse on McDowell where the Phoenix Suns used to play in February of 1977. It was a sold-out crowd of 12,000 and was indoors in a smaller place so it was really up close and the whole crowd was absolutely silent and mesmerized!! Saw them in 74 for the Dark Side of the Moon tour, in 87 for the momentary lapse of reason tour and of course the 94 Pulse concert at ASU's Sun devil stadium! But that 77 show being indoors there was so much pot being smoked that it was almost like another effect with the haze in the air!! It's a cloudy start this morning until I started watching your reaction, and at that precise moment the SUN came out! Thank you for bringing the joy of your Pink Floyd reactions, they're so so good!
Stacey you will never get tired of listening to Floyd now you have started to explore their music. I have been listening to them since the sixties, I'm now 67yrs old and haven't ever stopped and have listened to all songs over and over the years and never got tired of doing so, and each time it's like the very first time, their songs are timeless. And even on the day of my funeral after I pass away comfortably numb and wish you were here will be played at my funeral.
I'm just now able to watch this - its almost 11pm here in Western Pa - can't think of a better way to end my day , with a little Floyd and you ! thank you
My favorite PF album. I was a high school senior when it was released. Can't count how many times I laid on my bed and listened to the entire thing through my earphones.
I worked across road from battersea power station in stewart rd and waiting for bus to go home i saw helicopters chasing a 40 ft pig that got loose i didnt know it was my favorite group until purchased album a year later.
Thx Stacey! I go between Animals and Wish You Were Here as My favorite. I think I lean toward Animals. Just stunning pieces of music. Anger, fear, slashing guitar. I think some of Rick's best keyboard work. Rock on Stacey!
Yes the long notes are run through the the synthesizer of Richard Wright. The words you couldn't quite hear are the Christian prayer that starts with "The Lord is my Shepard, I shall not want.........". I've said it before that i smile and get such a warm feeling watching and listening to you react to my favorite band of all time. You get Pink Floyd and this PF family is unique.❤
Sheep makes me visualize their music so perfectly... First all sheep live their peaceful life, but the bass comes up slowly, like there is something bad about to happen, but as the bass is still quiet, it doesn't bother them. Then the sound explosion is like that something bad actually happened, for many of them "suddenly", but... if they only dare to hear the warning... Then there is a slaughterhouse part, like they failed to defend. There is a brain washing moment after which they are all threatened, aggressive music turns into this perfect guitar riffs that fades away and "the peace" comes back and it is all going back to where it all started. The sheep will be sheep forever! This song has such a great connection of the meaning, background theme, sounds, music and lyrics, like it's a real movie!
Im crazy about that "fan girl". Congratulations on 505K views @ comfortably numb. You're amazing, Stacey. you've touched many of us with your laughter and your tears. Thank you!!! Jesus loves you and so do I!! ❤❤
Stunning song everyone should listen to. Especially in the last 4 years where the world's population were so compliant and trusting, without questioning anything. Meekly doing what they were told. Cool reaction as usual.
When I saw Floyd during the Momentary Lapse of Reason tour at the massive (old) Wembley stadium, the sound of the animals was being played on their quadrophonic sound system, fading louder until they came on stage to perform at the start of the show. In the middle of London, hearing cows and sheep was bizarre.
It's funny that dogs is the only song Rodger Waters played bass on on animals. You got Mr Gilmore playing the bass guitar on sheep. Although my favorite part of sheep is Rodger Waters voice fading seamlessly into the synth on the ends of some of the lyrics!!
This song contains one of my favourite Pink Floyd lines - 'Wave upon wave of demented avengers march cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream'! - Brilliant! Great reaction, Stacey!
In the middle of the song is an altered version of the Psalm of David. I never thought I would get to see any of the Animals songs live but Roger played Dogs and Pigs (3 different kinds) during his “Us + Them” tour and Sheep during the most recent “This is Not A Drill” tour. I’ve seen Floyd live twice, Gilmour once (and have tickets to his upcoming show at MSG) and Roger 8 times.
this song is really a locomotive, the force with which it starts. It's like waiting in the quiet station listening to the sheep, the bass... and the engine goes at full power. It pulls you in.
Hi Stacey, Good interpretation for a first time listen to a very complex piece of music. While listening to the album Animals, you should keep in mind a quote from Animal Farm: 'All animals are equal, it's just that some are more equal than others.' And remember that we, humans, are just animals of one sort. And yes, this is another album that should be digested as a whole. ♥♥♥♥
Hi Stacey, Sheep is one of my fav PF song and Animal is my fav PF album. I aleays felt this song brings you to a time travel journey, first part is the past, middle part present and then straight to the future into space travelling. Amazing actual almost 50 years after it has been composed. I love your PF reactions.
Usually you just want to lose yourself in a Pink Floyd song. For this album, pulling up the lyrics is helpful as well. Dogs is probably my favorite, but all three of the major songs on this album are great. Dogs is very Gilmour heavy as he doesn’t sing on the others, and his guitar work on Dogs is among his best. They actually were working on these songs and performing them shortly after Dark Side of the Moon but they didn’t record them for the next album (Wish You Were Here). They took the time to let the songs germinate until they got them just right. Most musicians don’t take the time to do that. Respectful to their craft was a great way to put it.
Yes, good point, you can hear early version of the songs that ended up on both Wish You Were Hear and Animals in the first set at Boston Garden 1975. That was the entire first set, the second set is all of Dark Side of the Moon, followed by an encore of Echoes. One of the best shows I ever saw, you can hear audio of it on You Tube, enjoy!
@@vicprovost2561 I've heard the audio of those shows, originally via bootlegs and then more recently on the Immersion sets. Gotta say I'm a little bit jealous you got to hear it live. In later years, you would never hear a song before it was put on record. A few minor exceptions of course, David did Smile and probably a couple of others live first, but as a band, that of like 1970-1975 they performed many tracks live before they committed it to record. Which is why when they finally cut them in the studio, they were complete perfection
Out of the 500 highlights in this song, one of my absolute favorite moments is when the distorting repeating echo of the word "stone... stone... stone..." from "Dogs" comes in during the middle section.
I like the fusion between the voice and the keyboards at the end of sentences, like "in the grassland away" and "certain unease in the air". Kisses from Brasil.
0:18 Hi Stacy....David Gilmore's original black stratocaster sold for 3.9 million dollars at Christie auction house.....making it the most expensive guitar EVER!! Quite a testament to his masterly...this auction took place 5 years ago in 2019
Watching you react to these songs makes me feel like I’m hearing them for the first time again. I’m living vicariously and it’s great. It’s so cool to see a new listener who really gets it and is experiencing the pure joy that is their music. Welcome to the family.
The three songs together - Dogs, Sheep, Pigs - form a composition of their own, because they all are different, but complement each other so well. The metallic voice near the end is a prayer, as if being broadcasted by old loudspeakers, to keep the sheep down.
In 1977, a couple of years after I graduated high school, someone, most likely a student at that school, painted the entire lyrics of "Sheep" on one of the outer walls of the school. It covered two floors, I was most impressed.
@7:16 Stone, Stone, Stone.... Cut from dogs. That thematic use of a part from another tune on the album blew my mind when I first heard this, twenty seven years ago. Still sends a shiver down my spine.
Another great song by Pink Floyd. I enjoy your reactions to their music. The ability to feel music rather than just listen to it is a gift not everyone shares.
Excellent reaction. This album is phenomenal. It's so experimental. I get hints of Blue Oyster Cult and The Residents in this. Thank you so much for sharing it.
This is a Pink Floyd gem. Your'e so right about the grove in this song. When Rogers Waters came through town a couple of times in the last few years he played Sheep. Sounded and felt so good live. So I have a few recommendations. They are very different but that's the beauty of music. Rush. Xanadu, the version from the Exit Stage Left tour in 1981. You will see and hear 3 extremely talented musicians multi tasking to reproduce a very complicated and instrument layered song from the studio A Farewell to Kings. John Denver, Annie's Song. The studio version is a very nice song but if you appreciate the talent of a musician (Live at Five Seasons Center, Cedar Rapids, IA - December 1987) really shows how good John was. (I'm sure the song will bring tears to your eyes) Enya, Caribbean Blue. Total mood music. The video is really cool as well. Enya is a very talented lady. And not last, and certainly not least ....... KEEP UP WITH PINK FLOYD!!!! : )
Gets me everytime i watch this ... The wry smile as Stacey realises the Bass is entering her soul, the head nod when the drums step up and then...."oh.......ok". .....proceeds to enter the bopping stage.. Nice one Stacey .. Great reaction..
I literally only come to UA-cam each day to see if you reacted to a Pink Floyd song. Love your reactions and seeing younger people enjoy this great band.
I had this on 8-track tape when it came out. Fantastic album, I love "pigs on the wing" (parts 1 & 2). They launched the giant pig balloon over that factory as a promo for the record.
Every song is a story . The most influential band in modern rock history . Music, Lyrics production . What more ! The fact no band has ever tried to do a cover of anything theyve ever recorded says it all . ❤
& Roger plays the Rythm guitar on this one except the end riff. The original bass line was no doubt written by Waters & they played it live before recording it, but that's how they ended up dividing the studio time, and Roger had ideas for the guitar on this song and Pigs.
Animals is and always will be (at least for me) the best album ever made - that's Prog Punk. I discovered it with 17 (nearly 40 years ago) and even then people told me: wow, so young and already listen to Pink Floyd, discover good music early! I am so happy to see youngsters nowaday discovering the "big three" Beatles, Floyd, and Zep - and more.
The "prayer" you hear is Roger Waters' twisted version of the Lord's Prayer. Very dark. The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want He makes me down to lie Through pastures green He leadeth me the silent waters by With bright knives he releaseth my soul He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places He converteth me to lamb cutlets For lo, He hath great power, and great hunger When cometh the day we lowly ones Through quiet reflection, and great dedication Master the art of karate Lo, we shall rise up And then we'll make the bugger's eyes water.
You will LOVE the 3rd big song of the album. Pigs (Three different ones) The baseline is something. Also, in Pigs, you will hear Whitehouse. It refers to someone rather than the actual US White House. You should know that they recorded this song in late 1976 and that they've been playing version of this song called Raving and Drooling for nearly 3 years on their live shows even before they made Wish You Were Here.. So this a song that has been tested and worked a lot before they record it. Same goes for Dogs which was named You Gotta be Crazy which they also been played for years before it's been record.
Wonderful reaction to an otherworldly song. This is my go to album when I need to get grounded - back in the moment. Just as you said. Nice job, young lady. 🤘 Long Live Rock 🤘 Long Live Floyd 🤘
I am an hardened Pink floyd fan from the 60s 70s and I love the reviews from Stacy the excitment the antisipation and the suprise in her expressions is so exhilarating to see as she discovers Pink Floyd music a band ahead of its time as she says and have not yet been matched for there inventivness in music. I love also that Stacy can appreciate the complexity of Pink Floyd music too and does not rush
This song reminds me of 2020. 8 billion sheep being misled and some being led to the slaughter. One of my favourite PF albums, still, after almost 50 years.
My very first PF album I got from one of my brothers for Christmas, was Animals, on vinyl. Back in 197seventieee eeeeee something. I was about 10-11 years old....
I remember when I bought this album in 1978 and listening to it several times while reading the lyrics to get the story. IIRC it was about the time in 10th grade when we read and studied Animal Farm in English class. The two go together so well. It was so much like when I was in 9th grade reading Edgar Allan Poe and being introduced to The Alan Parsons Project first album Tales Of Mystery And Imagination. I already knew Dark Side Of The Moon and Wish You Were Here. Once you listen to Animals in it's entirety you realize the darkness of it.
I was like 10 when this came out, also was into Wish and Darkside from my older bro… I loved it but I remember my bro’s best friend hated it because it was dark and cynical compared to the earlier works. They were all contributing equally to the music so it was a brilliant recording and delivery
Wow, I remember when this first came out, and it was amazing. I was 13 and i had just started my musical journey. This, Black Sabbath - Sabbath bloody sabbath and led Zeppelin vol 4 were my favourites at the time....
I saw Pink Floyd Animal Tour live in Tampa Stadium, Tampa, Fl. They had speakers on all four side, A big pig over the stage and they also had the largest chrome ball bearing hanging over the stage, but I think that was at the stadium for some other reason! On the ticket it said " An Evening of Sight and Sound with Pink Floyd". 😁😎
Excellent reaction once again Stacey. My favorite album from Pink Floyd. Of the 3 epic tracks on the album, I like Pigs (Three different ones) the best. Looking forward to that reaction as well. Animals also has a remastered/remix version from 2018 or 19. HIGHLY recommended. Cheers.
We Floydians aren't sheep! I can't see you having reacted to Radiohead yet and whilst there will be only ever be one Pink Floyd Radiohead are a band to experience and Thom Yorke's voice is one of a kind. Most people start off with "Creep" which they saw as a millstone or "Paranoid Android" which can be an assault on the senses so I would recommend "Karma Police" as an introduction to their early sound or the atmospheric "Street Spirit (Fade out) " for Thom at his very best
Roger's vocals is blended with a synthesizer to finish the note off... brilliant. Pink Floyd has been 'my band' since 1969... when I discovered them at 6 years old. Enjoy.
Rick Wright was an absolute legend. RIP Rick.
She never talks about Richard Wright. There is so much contribution from Rick on this album.
Rick was their George Harrison. He was the mortar that held the (pun intended) bricks together. I miss him always.
Richard was so underated. Animals and wish you were here was his best work in my opinion. He really gave pink floyd the emotions and little eerie sounds. True genius
Waters treated him like shit.
@bobthebomb1596
Yeah he did. He kicked him out of the band when they made the Final Cut
Its great to see a youngster discovering what us oldies already knew, Pink Floyd is one of the greatest bands/songwriters to ever be!
So the "long note" you're hearing is actually Roger's vocals fading out and being blended with Rick on the synthesizer. It's perfectly mixed so you can't tell where his voice ends and the synth begins.
Oh you mean I was trying and failing to hold that note all of these years while singing along with it. I feel a bit better now. Thank you.

Saw Pink Floyd on the 'animals' tour in Stafford in March 1977 complete with inflatable animals a brilliant experience. the world's greatest band
with Snowy White helping fill it out
Saw the same show at Tarrant Convention Center in Fort Worth, Texas. It was amazing with the inflatable animals. The pink pig was huge! Fun times!
Stunning song everyone should listen to. Especially in the last 4 years where the world's population were so compliant and trusting, without questioning anything. Meekly doing what they were told. Cool reaction as usual.
This is one of my favorites songs ever. Thank you
Roger has build a real piece of art with this song, , melodys , vocals , lyrics and bass guitar fantastic
" get out of the road if you wanna grow old..." love that line 😉
It's funny that dogs is the only song Rodger Waters played bass on on animals. You got Mr Gilmore playing the bass guitar on sheep. Although my favorite part of sheep is Rodger Waters voice fading seamlessly into the synth on the ends of some of the lyrics!!
"Wave upon wave of demented avengers march cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream" Best line from the song. Thanks Roger!
The dream being George Orwells 1984
Lovely, and out of this world.
Stacey so good to see you on the Animals album again. Wonderful concert in 1977 at Tampa Stadium.
My favorite song from the Animals album, the beginning and ending are awesome!!! Those keys and guitar in the end, never gets old.
@@mikewatts867 I was beyond lucky seeing those Garden shows, best concerts on my life, seen shows since 1971.
I was fortunate enough to see Pink Floyd, the Division Bell tour in Washington DC in 1994. One of the best shows I’ve ever been to!
Hey miss 😊!!! Thanks for the PinkFloyd réaction !!! Animals An album so far ahead of its time! Magnificent as Always ! Good travel with PinkFloyd ❤
Quite a testament to his masterly...this auction took place 5 years ago in 2019
Gilmour's guitar and bass on this song are brilliant.
The bass was Roger Waters
@@markmcnamara9763 Gilmour played bass on Sheep and Pigs 3DO. Waters played bass on Dogs.
Watching you react to these songs makes me feel like I’m hearing them for the first time again. I’m living vicariously and it’s great. It’s so cool to see a new listener who really gets it and is experiencing the pure joy that is their music. Welcome to the family.
I have listened to this album thousands of times over the decades !!! One of my favorites !!!
Loving your stuff here Stacey. I wish so bad you could see David when he tours later this year... Maybe a trip out to LA is in order 😉
and I wish I could go too!!
Hm, maybe also reactions to his new songs...
NYC too!
Great to hear you giving praise to Rogers vocals and bass. His writing is truly amazing. Look forward to your next Pink Floyd reaction!!! 😊
Among my all-time favourite Floyd songs, and my favourite track from what is an underrated album (even amongst Floyd fans).
my most favorite album been listening to this for over 30 years and never get tired of hearing it 👍
Another great song by Pink Floyd. I enjoy your reactions to their music. The ability to feel music rather than just listen to it is a gift not everyone shares.
They are also setting up their notorious soundscapes at the beginning of so many songs. Very immersive.
Excellent reaction. This album is phenomenal. It's so experimental. I get hints of Blue Oyster Cult and The Residents in this. Thank you so much for sharing it.
She would Love BOC!
BOC would be a great reaction!
The studio version is a very nice song but if you appreciate the talent of a musician (Live at Five Seasons Center, Cedar Rapids, IA - December 1987)
really shows how good John was. (I'm sure the song will bring tears to your eyes)
Enya, Caribbean Blue.
My favorite Pink Floyd album and one of my top 5 favorite albums overall.
Ah, Pink Floyd's Animals album, always takes me back to a certain time and place in my life so many many years ago. One of my favorite albums.
This album came out when I was in high school! This album was the only album we listened to that year! One of their beat!
Every song is a story . The most influential band in modern rock history . Music, Lyrics production . What more ! The fact no band has ever tried to do a cover of anything theyve ever recorded says it all . ❤
This was my first Pink Floyd album, over 40 years ago.. still love it
Pink Floyd is what music aspires to be 🤞🏼
@Rob74959 😆
@Rob74959 😂
@Rob74959 😂
I@Rob74959I like tool, but they are standing on the shoulders of giants. The giants are Pink Floyd, King crimson, Black sabbath and led Zeppelin.
Gilmour plays the fret less bass on this. That’s David on the fret less bass on “Hey You”, also.
good to know
There's no fretless on Sheep. Dave played one of the bass lines on Pigs though.
& Roger plays the Rythm guitar on this one except the end riff. The original bass line was no doubt written by Waters & they played it live before recording it, but that's how they ended up dividing the studio time, and Roger had ideas for the guitar on this song and Pigs.
Another great Pink Floyd reaction Stacey. Thanks ❤️🏴🇬🇧
Seeing Pink Floyd perform this album live at Cleveland Stadium on the Animals tour was the greatest show I ever saw…just spellbindingly magnificent.
Very dark.
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want
He makes me down to lie
Through pastures green He leadeth me the silent waters by
With bright knives he releaseth my soul
He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places
He converteth me to lamb cutlets
For lo, He hath great power, and great hunger
When cometh the day we lowly ones
Through quiet reflection, and great dedication
Master the art of karate
Lo, we shall rise up
And then we'll make the bugger's eyes water.
Not The Lords Prayer, but Psalm 23. But you are correct with it being Rogers twisted version.
@@axispcc Thank you. I mix them up all the time.
the sheep psalm/mantra was recited by Nick Mason through a vocal distorcer
@@alessandrozibetti8919 That I did not know, learned something new after ... lets just say a long time.
@@axispcc his distorted voice was "One of these days I'm going to cut you into little pieces" too.
2:55 I love the way you start grooving along with the music when the vocals start
Best band ever and one of the greatest songs ever written!
Animals is a concept album based on the sociopolitical atmoshere in the mid 70s, loosley based on George Orwells animal farm novel
Indeed :)
This album should only be listened to beginning-to-end in its entirety.
I really think everyone should listen to Pink Floyd. Only to expand.
Animals is my favorite Pink Floyd album. I love Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here, but Animals is my favorite.
Floydians? What a tool.
Roger's vocals is blended with a synthesizer to finish the note off... brilliant.
Pink Floyd has been 'my band' since 1969... when I discovered them at 6 years old.
Enjoy.
