  • In this video I demonstrate a method to diagnose serpentine belt noise. This test will nail serpentine belt wear with 100% accuracy. I also show the replacement of a new belt on the 2003 - 2007 Accord 2.4L.

    How long did the old belt last? Visually it appeared in good shape. EDIT: Noisy belt RESOLVED!

      Very true! Looked quite good without the classic horizontal wear cracks.
      I don't recollect when I put them in but it may have had upto 44k miles (over 4 years) from my best estimate.

      @@DIYAutoworksNG . Ok. I replaced mine a couple of months ago with one from O'Reilly's. Now it started doing that chirping when the engine is cold. I did the water test and it stops completely. I wonder if the tensioner is just worn and too loose or the belt I put in is defective. I noticed some white hairs sticking out of the sides of the belt but I don't know if that means anything.

      There's a mark on the automatic tensioner that tells you if it is still within spec. Basically the arrow has to point within the highlighted range on the other half of the tensioner. You can find some images of this on the Web.
      Do check the tensioner, however, with the failed water test my money is on the belt. What brand was it?

      @@DIYAutoworksNG . Yeah, I looked at photos online and wasn't able to find the same markings on my '08 Accord. The belt is made by Gates. Previously, I bought one from AutoZone made by Continental that turned out to be the wrong size. Nothing but bad luck with this silly belt so far. I'm thinking maybe I get an OEM belt and see if that takes care of the problem.

      I have known Gates for good quality belts. So it's worth taking a closer look at the tensioner/pulleys. And something you mentioned earlier requires more attention; fraying at the edges of the belt. This can be caused by a worn pulley too. Although, I would expect some bearing noise in addition. Is it just the chirping noise?
      The 08 uses a different tensioner from the 7th gen Accords and I can't say if Honda dropped the indicator for tensioner wear. Still looking to see if I can find any reference online.

    +1 for the belt noise diagnosis. I would've never thought that my belt is the issue. I changed everything from the belt to the power steeering pump and alternator in 2 years but still had noises from time to time. I never thought that the cheap belt I bought 2yrs ago was the problem. LIKED and SUBSCRIBED!

    There is a big problem with this year 2003-2007 Honda Accord. The power steering pump and line O rings leak onto the belt. There is also a VTEC solenoid strainer located behind the pulleys. These fluids soften the belt quickly.

      @DIYAutoworksNG  Місяць тому +1

      You're spot on! Had both problems. Rebuilt the power steering pump once to stop the leaks, and also changed the VTC strainer.

    • @DIYAutoworksNG
      @DIYAutoworksNG  Рік тому +1

      Could be a worn belt or tensioner. The automatic tensioner on this Accord has a wear indicator.

      You may just need a new belt...if it starts again.

    Is there any way to take off that annoying spinning noise those pulleys make ?

    • @DIYAutoworksNG
      @DIYAutoworksNG  11 місяців тому +1

      Lol, not that I know of. There maybe some performance bearings that could help. Don't quote me though as I'm not really sure.

    How do I know if I have to replace the pulleys and the belt?

    • @DIYAutoworksNG
      @DIYAutoworksNG  10 місяців тому +2

      Spin the pulleys by hand, and also try to see if they have any play or have the slightest side movement. Any pulley that has this should be replaced. Also, if the bearing grinds or is noisy.
