Thanks Lisa for the Photo transfer video. I am making a Memory quilt for one of our best friends wife. He passed away last fall and I thought it was a great way to homor his memory. Oh by the way we hve used Walmart curbside pickup for about 6 yrs now and for the most part it works great. Thanks again!
I made a small quilt for my granddaughter, she had their first baby and I had them trace his little hand, then each of their hands and my daughter (the grandma) and my hand (great grandma). I traced them in red flannel and cut them out. I made the baby quilt and laid the baby hand at the top, stitched it, then the parents hands under the babies hand with their thumbs touching. Below them at an angle I placed the Grandmothers ( my daughter) hand and below that, my hand. I had just started quilting and wish all my other sewing went as well as that. What a nice gift it was and they can save it for him forever. Thank You for letting me share this.
I made a photo quilt for my granddaughter. When I printed my photos I removed them from the paper and washed the in the washer and dried them in the dryer. Iron them afterwards. There was no fading. Her mom washed it all the time with soap and still hasn't faded after several years.
❤❤ I’ve watched several videos. So far, your method and product seem to be the best choice to place photos in a quilt, pillow, bag, etc. Thank you so much for sharing your process. I’ll be ordering the June Taylor package from your link. Thank you for including that. 😊
Thank you for the video, i have never quilted before, and I am tackling a memory quilt using my mothers clothes. I wanted to incorporate her picture and so thank you, for showing this.
Once again, I have learned from you and just want to say thank you!!! I am doing a memory quilt for my young grandson and will use this method to include some photos! How awesome and easy is this!!!! I have subscribed to your UA-cam channel and to your FB page....thank you for sharing your expertise...what a true blessing that keeps on giving!! :)
I made a T-shirt quilt for my granddaughter from her dance shirts. However, I didn’t have enough shirt fronts so I used the same sheets to add photos of her dancing to make enough 12 inch squares. Worked great! Thanks for the tips!
Wow! I’m so impressed with Lisa. My mind is spinning, iso want to make Memory pillows for my children and grandchildren. Their beloved father and grandfather has passed away in April. I want to make a memory quilt of my daughter's wedding and want to put a picture of her and her husband in the center. This video certainly helped me understand the process better. Thank you so much.
I’m just finishing a memory quilt top for my Granddaughter. I was very pleased to see that you used the same supplies that I’ve been using. I would love to see how you quilt a memory quilt before I quilt mine.
I just discovered your videos on how to do tranfers of print from paper to fabric and how to transfer photos to fabric- yay! I hsve 't tried it yet but i wll do- it looks like a good idea- i have to get a printer, too but im exciting! thank you for your instruction and help! what a fun hing to do! Sandi Myer
I have a heat press so the instructions for using an iron verses a heat press is different. After checking with the manufacturer of the heat press and with June Tailor, Inc. the maker of the Sew-In Colorfast Fabric Sheets for In Jet Printers, it was suggested that the temperature on the heat press should be around 325 degrees and the timing between 30 to 45 seconds. The water bath process remains the same. Hope this will be helpful to others. Thank you for your video as it has been very helpful.
I am making an "heirloom quilt" with vintage and modern fabrics, laces and baubles in it. I thought it would be interesting to insert a photo of my twin sister and I at one year old in that quilt. The picture is typical of the 1950s and looks so "vintage cool". 😊
I haven't had luck with that print paper when used in the past. I soak my fabric in formaldehyde (full hazmat outside, I pretreat a lot of fabric at once and store the rest), let it soak for about half hour to an hour to let the formaldehyde soak in and maybe give it a few stirs during that time. Then I soak in cold water and gently squeeze the formaldehyde out, repeat the soaking and then let dry outside (ideally overnight outside). When the fabric is dry it's ready to use. I iron the fabric (cut to size) on an 8"x"11 piece (cut to size) of freezer paper and print the photos on it just as you did with the sheets you are using. Rinse printed fabric in cold water to allow any ink to run off. Gently squeeze excess water and when just damp, press to set with iron until dry. I have a memory quilt I made 20 years ago that has been washed as normal and the pictures are still and bright as day one. I do, however wash the quit in baking soda only and regular liquid fabric softener. I tell those I have made memory quilts for to wash the quilt the same way I do and their quilts are still great looking. My method maybe a bit time consuming, however in the long run I get way more photo transfers at more than half the cost. And it's not as dangerous as one may imagine if it is done with care and outside. Also, any left over formaldehyde in the bucket from soaking can be used again. I pour it into an empty plastic bottle. I thought I would share this with you and the viewers. ~~~Good Luck all and Happy Quilting as always~~~
Dee's Quilting thank you for sharing!!! I do like these sheets for the ease of convience....however the cost is HIGH in my opinion so your idea of treating the fabric is great! I've also printed using the freezer paper, however didn't treat the fabric first....I believe that would help a lot!! These sheets are nice.....a bit stiff though. Does the formaldehyde leave any stiffness to the finished photo/fabric?
Now that you mention the stiffness of the sheets I do remember that part and I didn't like that either. The formaldehyde does not leave the fabric sticky, stiff or smelly. Actually the formaldehyde really has no order (care should still be taken). The fabric is a tiny bit "crunchy" if you will, though that goes away upon ironing and feels more like if you had starched the fabric, which makes it nice because it be ironed on freezer paper and going through the printer. There is still no stiffness at all in the finished product. It is nothing like the fabric photo sheets sold, it feels, looks and acts like nontreated fabric. I hope this helps, if you need more info please let me know.... You have a wonderful channel and I know you are inspiring many and, many are learning a lot .
You are very welcome!! Should you venture out into this area of fabric photo printing maybe you can do a how to video on it to show how easy and cost saving it is for others to do. My explaining it may scare people because of the "formaldehyde" used. If done and handled right it is rewarding.
Just a word of caution when using formaldehyde. When formaldehyde dries it leaves a residue that is concentrated called paraformaldahyde. It is more caustic and carcinogenic. It dries to a white powdery substance. Please be cautious and rinse with copious amounts of water if you choose to use that method of treating your fabric.
I know that this video was made 3 years, but you hair style was really, really nice. It really look good on you. Now for the quilt, lol. I did liked this tutorial, and h ou a the quilt was coming out. I can see why you really like how it was turning out, tfs. In His Grace Lorisa
OMG, i've been watching your videos on photo transfers.. all of them...it's late September, but i've already started trying to think what i will be making for Christmas for my nieces. Last year i made memory pillows out of their late grandfathers old sweaters. This year, i received a early bday/or late anniversary present depending on how you want to look at it. my husband bought me my first sewing machine. he was tired of watching me struggle hathnd sewing all my projects. This year i decided (probably above my paygrade right now, but i'm up for a good challenge!) to make a family tree quilt for them. or something of that sort. And your tutorials and advice has been invaluable. if they turn out i'm sure my SILs and my husband will be wanting one as well. they all wanted pillows but unfortunately Mom had already thrown out everything except for these 2 sweaters. they were his favorites, she just hadn't been able to par with them yet. until i told them what i wanted to do with them, and then she gladly gave them to me. Anyting for her granddaughters you know, lol Don't tell my husband, but i was able to get a sweatshir of his dad's i'm making him a pillow for Christmas.. he just doesn't know it. but now i can put a picture on the back!
@@TheQuiltmakerHomestead i was wondering, for whatever reason i can't get my computer to hook up to my printer (i'm sure it's operator error, simply technoligically disinclined)would you be able to scan it from the printer itself? otherwise i'm going to have to send them to my daughter out of state and then have her send them bac to me.. This is really cool! I didn't know about this product. The way I incorporated a photo in my quilt, was order a shirt with a photo on it from Vista print.
Actually I really like your idea too!! It might be pricey if adding a TON of photos into a quilt...but for just a few that would be great and I'm sure the quality of the print is really nice too, thanks for sharing :)
Another fabulous tutorial! I would love to see the rest of the process though. How you included the photo into the quilt, not just how to use the sheets, quilting around it, etc

Hi Lisa, Nj from northeastern Ontario Canada,,,,working on pointy Dresden plate memory quilt using the centre of the Dresden for photo…they are all various sizes with the center dresden being the larges & others scattered with smaller various photos
Hello I have a question, I'm making a picture memory blanket and I used freezer wrap and fabric to print. I didn't soak in Bubble jet set on the material. Is there another way to preserve photos once printed, or do I need to start over with the photos. Thank you very much for you advise.
I made and origami ornament that is a 4inch heritage. Have picture of my brother made and was going to do freezer paper method as a memory. It's black and white pic. Do I need to heat set. It's not something that you would wash. Loved your video
Hi Lisa I am a beginner at quilting.. I 💘 watching your videos, I did make a picture quilt for my first one. What I did is print t my pictures on walmart kiosk select a blanket then they shipped the blanket to Walmart. Then I would cut the pictures out to the size of picture then sew them together...I can send a picture!!
Ms Lisa I have photos old photos of my mother as a child black n white. Photos of myself and my children. I have never quilted but I fell like the photo quilts would be a great. Going to put them on a disc as well I’ve carried these photos tubs and tubs of photos. Would love to learn.
I use to do them with heart shapes around the picture. I used the same printer sheets. Its beautiful but my daughters quit it has a picture of her grageration for being a nurse. But her cats ruined her picture. It was so nice of a memory quilt .
Crafter’s Images has photo fabric that is soft. I use it all the time and get great results. Purchased it from Joann’s Fabric online. They do not sell it in the store.
I use Betty's Photos on Fabric, I get 10 sheets per pkg. 8.5 x 11 for $28.50, and I had to buy a spray to seal in picture and that cost me $25.00 a can, your way is less expensive I must try! thanks for the video!
Idk if it's the ink that's not all the way set in the fabric or they just get dirty easily but should I use scothgaurd on them or is the ink not all the way set ?
Like it, I like to order some, where and how do I place order and what is your charges. I am making quilt for my grandkids. In case you do not please guide me,this is the memory I like to leave as my love. Please please
I use Bubble Jet set and rinse. I get them from Dharmatrading company. Works really well, and I can do a yard or two at a time. very colorfast & economical.
Marge Campbell I'm so glad you left this info!!! I could not remember for the life of me the name of the product "Bubblejet" hahaa..thanks for watching!
Hi, someone just asked me today about putting pictures on a quilt they want me to make for them, I'm fairly new quilter. Thanks for showing the whole process. What's the best ink jet printer for a beginner?
I'm glad this video was helpful Marilyn! Unfortunately I'm not so tech savy, certainly not enough to recommend any type of ink jet printer. For this quilt I used my husband's Epson Artisan 1430 and it worked wonderfully.
Annielaurie you know what, I totally agree! While yge photos printed very nicely, they were a bit stiff. I really am hoping after use of the quilt and further laundering the quilt, that they soften up. I'm thinking it's a mix of the type of fabric and the agents used to treat it for color fasting.
thanks. im dying to do this. i have mobile tablets and have no printer. last time i bought a printer was for my new computer as windows 95 was about to launch. now printers are so different and sales ppl dont know about printing from tablets for printing on fabric! soon I'll just pick one!
Hi Lisa. Thank you for demonstrating this June Taylor color fast video. I would love to have a copy of the Bee Quilt Pattern. However I don't have Facebook. Is there any way to get one another way?
Hi Lisa I make memory bears and pillows was thinking about putting pictures on them, so I have enjoyed this video. This video 3 yes old do you still recommend these sheets or have you found a better way? Also what ink jet printer do you have? Thanks so much!
I still really like these sheets, although I haven't used them a lot since then to be honest. When I did this quilt I had to use my hubby's Epson Artisan printer.
Hi Lisa! I am new to quilting and your channel. I love all that you do. I wanted to ask if you would recommend using retayne when using the colorfast sheets? Thank you so much for your videos. They are really helping me a lot.
Hello!!! So one of the benefits of the specific Colorfast sheets is that they have been treated so that if you follow the directions on the package.....that is all you should have to do. I've used the sheets many times. While I recommend them for people printing at home, just know they do fade slightly....and the fabric feels a bit "stiff".
Iam Amc I used a high loft poly batting for this particular quilt, and the printer ink I am not sure! Hubbys printer with the standard ink cartridge lol
Pat Reynolds, I live in a small town and we just got the grocery app. I tried it, but found that the prices are higher on the app for some items. There was a .75 cent different for a gallon of milk😒
I don't recall the June Taylor colorfast sheets saying to put fabric softner in the water......although it's been a while since I used them so I'd have to pull out the package and double check hehehee.
Hi Lisa, I heard you mention something about a program for the pictures may I ask what program you use to coordinate the pictures. I also want to thank you for this tutorial I bought some of June Taylor's colorfast fabric to use this will be my second quilt I am making but I have 2 others to make after this one for one of my grandson they are all memory quilts
I use a free vectoring program called Inkscape :) I really like the June Taylor colorfast sheets.....they are a bit stiff I think....but they hold the color well
@@TheQuiltmakerHomestead Thank you but inkscape and I don't get along at all I have tried to figure it out for over 3 yrs and still can't figure it out.
Lisa, I have been doing prints for a while but I can't seem to get a crisp clear photo on the sheet. I put the printer on "best" setting, etc. What brand model of printer do you use? Or is it in the program that you print from that gives you your great pics? Love your instructions, very clear.
Hi Susan, let's take a look at a few things that determine your printing results :) First thing that comes to mind is fabric choice. What type of fabric are you using/brand/thread count and quality? I get different results by using different fabrics, always 100% cotton. First try using a different brand and see if that makes any difference in your print. Next, let's talk about resolution of your picture used to print by. Is it a photograph? What size is it/resolution? Are you re-sizing it making it larger to print? If the picture is small and you are making it larger, that will make it blurry and pixilated. It's always best to start with a larger sized photo. Next, if it's not a photograph, and you are trying to print text or images you have created the resolution or file size also matters. I use a Brother HL-L2360 laser printer. It prints in toner not ink. That may make a difference as well. Also, when I create my images, I create them as vector images, and save them as PDF file format. This gives a clear and crisp image with clean lines. It may be helpful if you join me over on Facebook....snap a picture of your printout and send it to me so I can see exactly what is happening, and I might better be able to assist that way :)
I just realized you posted your question on the video that I used the June Tailor printing sheets haha.....if you are using that...then most likely, it is the resolution of your photograph that may be causing the issue. If it is a smaller photo...printing it actual size may give you the best print result. Anytime you resize an image it causes it to become pixilated. Keep me updated :)

Hello I have a question, I'm making a picture memory blanket and I used freezer wrap and fabric to print. I didn't soak in Bubble jet set on the material. Is there another way to preserve photos once printed, or do I need to start over with the photos. Thank you very much for you advise.
Beautiful I need those template i want to make one for my mom Thank you so much
You’re welcome 😊
I made and origami ornament that is a 4inch heritage. Have picture of my brother made and was going to do freezer paper method as a memory. It's black and white pic. Do I need to heat set. It's not something that you would wash. Loved your video

Hi Lisa I am a beginner at quilting.. I 💘 watching your videos, I did make a picture quilt for my first one. @@bettyochoa4099 lisacapenquilts@gmail.com
I use to do them with heart shapes around the picture. I used the same printer sheets. Its beautiful but my daughters quit it has a picture of her grageration for being a nurse. But her cats ruined her picture. It was so nice of a memory quilt
.
We used to wash with vinegar yrs ago to set colors, do you think adding a little vinegar to the wash would set even more?
If the backing is still sticky, you can put another piece of quilt cotton on it, cut to fit, and run it through the same way.
Crafter’s Images has photo fabric that is soft. I use it all the time and get great results. Purchased it from Joann’s Fabric online. They do not sell it in the store.
Saundra Weston ohhhhhhh Thanks! Nice to know :)
How u put. A picture blanket on knitting loom?
Great video, Thank you, Hope you do many more
Judy Patterson thank you soooo much!!! I have plans for many more ♡♡♡ Thank you for watching ♡
Just what I am looking for
I use Betty's Photos on Fabric, I get 10 sheets per pkg. 8.5 x 11 for $28.50, and I had to buy a spray to seal in picture and that cost me $25.00 a can, your way is less expensive I must try! thanks for the video!
What spray did you buy ?

How does this compare to using the 100 label sheets with the iron and retayne? Couldn't you use that method for photos too?
So happy I stumbled upon your channel. I’m loving your videos. P.S. you just keep using that phone so you can get us videos faster lol
Excellent
Thank you so much 😀
Does Staples have ink jet printers? Can I put this on my sheets or pillowcases
Idk if it's the ink that's not all the way set in the fabric or they just get dirty easily but should I use scothgaurd on them or is the ink not all the way set ?
Hello Lisa I'm making a photo quilt right now I uses june Taylor colorfast sheets I'm just would like to know how can I put a border on my photo?
Nice demonstration

I use Bubble Jet set and rinse. I get them from Dharmatrading company. Works really well, and I can do a yard or two at a time.
very colorfast & economical.
Marge Campbell I'm so glad you left this info!!! I could not remember for the life of me the name of the product "Bubblejet" hahaa..thanks for watching!
Where can one find an inkjet printer to use? Office Max, Fed Ex only have laser printers.
What program do you use to preview and print your photos. Thx Lisa. I’ve just started
I use Inkscape.....it's a free download on the internet :)
Good morning. Thank you for this video. Can you put a photo on a an existing quilt and hand stitch it down?
I don't see why you can't do that :) Treat it just like an applique
Lisa Capen Quilts thank you so much for replying. Much love from Melbourne. Stay safe.
How do you attach the photos onto the quilt after color fast treatment
Hi, someone just asked me today about putting pictures on a quilt they want me to make for them, I'm fairly new quilter. Thanks for showing the whole process. What's the best ink jet printer for a beginner?
I'm glad this video was helpful Marilyn! Unfortunately I'm not so tech savy, certainly not enough to recommend any type of ink jet printer. For this quilt I used my husband's Epson Artisan 1430 and it worked wonderfully.
What is the best printer dye or pigment?
Lisa....I did use the same method.....the pix looked good but I found the photo fabric so stiff. I hope to try different brands!
Annielaurie you know what, I totally agree! While yge photos printed very nicely, they were a bit stiff. I really am hoping after use of the quilt and further laundering the quilt, that they soften up. I'm thinking it's a mix of the type of fabric and the agents used to treat it for color fasting.
Lisa Capen Quilts love your videos! Let us know if you do find a softer brand of fabric & I'll do the same!
Want to do this!
Have you tried sewing with cork fabric from Portugal? What do you think is the best way to transfer an image to cork fabric?
I'm sorry Sonia, I've never worked with cork fabric before :( I would be interested in learning more about it !
Thank you for this video. Also I have 25 quilts that I need long arm quilted. How do I get in touch with you?
Wow, you've been busy!! You can email me at Lisacapenquilts@gmail.com
how soft is the fabric once done.
thanks. im dying to do this. i have mobile tablets and have no printer. last time i bought a printer was for my new computer as windows 95 was about to launch. now printers are so different and sales ppl dont know about printing from tablets for printing on fabric! soon I'll just pick one!
good luck with your new printer!!! Thanks for watching :)
Hi Lisa. Thank you for demonstrating this June Taylor color fast video. I would love to have a copy of the Bee Quilt Pattern. However I don't have Facebook. Is there any way to get one another way?
Hi Karen, email me at lisacapenquilts@gmail.com
Hi Lisa
I make memory bears and pillows was thinking about putting pictures on them, so I have enjoyed this video.
Is it Ok to press on a wool mat?
what Kind Of Bird Do you Have? I used to have a Double yellow head that was a good Talker....sheila
I can't wait to try this! Will this work with a black and white photo?
Hi Nan, yep it will work with black/white photos too :)
Cool!
I have an ironing press (Singer). Any reason why I couldn't use that instead of an iron to heat set?
I don't see why it would hurt to use your press????? You could always print a small sample photo and give it a try on some scrap fabrics to test :)
What kind of needle do you use in sewing machine to see this onto project?
I use a 12/80. Thanks for watching
In your printer do you use pigment ink or dye ink?? Also what batting in the quilt?? Thanks!
Iam Amc I used a high loft poly batting for this particular quilt, and the printer ink I am not sure! Hubbys printer with the standard ink cartridge lol
I love the Wal-Mart grocery app. I order once or twice a week...
me too Pat!! I'm so glad I tried it out....I've been using it ever since and it has saved me so much time in my week!!
Pat Reynolds, I live in a small town and we just got the grocery app. I tried it, but found that the prices are higher on the app for some items. There was a .75 cent different for a gallon of milk😒
I had instructions to put fabric softener in the water, have you ever done that?
