I enjoyed the star pattern to have these precious photos shine! More than 25 years ago, I designed, machine sewed & hand quilted a king-sized photo & signature quilt, for my parents' 50th wedding anniversary. I had prepared a fabric strip set (rectangles)with the white strip in the center & placed freezer paper on the back of each block...for ease of writing/drawing on the center strip. I had placed colored permanent fabric ink pens on their tables & asked guests to write, sign or draw something appropriate; to later be sewn into this quilt. I also printed photos of family, some group shots of friends & family whom attended the celebration and placed them around the center block which was a black and white photo of their wedding party from 1947. She wore her long white dress & my Daddy wore his dress whites (Navy officer). I still have this creation as mom is living with my younger brother & I; as we provide her 24/7 care. She'll be 95 next month & gets about with her walker. They originally had this quilt hung on a wall at their church, for a year. She really wanted to donate it to them & EMPHATICALLY told her, "NO ! " She lost that round! They had it hung in their 2 bedroom Independent Living apartment for the rest of the time. A maintenance man kindly got a long, 1" closet dowel & securely hung it on the studs of a large wall, in their living area, away from direct Florida sunlight. I had designed it in 4 quadrants with photos of each of our families' photos (with their children) in group shots & their corresponding signed quilt blocks nearby so that, if decided later on, the quilt could be cut down to 4 wall hangings & each section had a copy of their wedding photo. It included their respective parents, Best Man & Matron of Honor, as they had lined up after the wedding! It was a photo that was always in our house, no matter where we lived as a family. It only took me 10 years (life happened in-between) to complete this gift. They graciously received it for their 60th wedding anniversary. I had placed the rectangular signature blocks around each fabric photo, which was 5"x7". I like the stars block Much better! I hand quilted it using #8 Perle cotton thread & didn't quilt on the photos. I had also made a quilt bag (with the central b&w wedding photo on the front) with a long zipper to close it, for storing the quilt. This huge quilt is now hanging on a wall in my area of the house & I find her casually looking at it, from time to time.
Just a hint to save the photo transfer paper…crop the photo to the size you want and make a collage. All 4 photos would have fit on one sheet of paper.
This is so cute! Years ago for my parents- in- law’s 50th anniversary. I used the triple Irish chain pattern and had never made a quilt before, it was queen size. The middle was their wedding photo and surrounded by the family from small to grown plus grandkids. I swore I’d never make another quilt. People kept asking how much I’d charge to make one for them. I’d just laugh and say there isn’t enough money! That was over twenty-two years ago. Even though I haven’t made another photo quilt I now live to quilt! I think I could manage a small one. Thanks Kimberly, you’re the best.

What was the weight of the thread and the color that you used? I've got a photo quilt in process but i wasn't afraid of doing it over their faces afraid it would mess up?
