    I just sold my Mach-E GT Performance for the EV6 GT, and, respectfully, I don't think that Rory did a good job of understanding and reviewing this car. It's actually a real HOOT, and has perhaps the best bang for the buck (or pound) of any EV performance-oriented car. It outshines the i4 M50 in interior space, handling, and acceleration, and price. I find that the car has a lot of adjustability in its suspension, I just don't think Rory seemed to spend much time with it in anything but GT mode (which is a stiff ride). I think Rory couldn't look get past the sport seats -- I think he just might not be, uh, the body type for this car. For those who fit, it's completely wrong to dismiss this as a viable competitor to the i4 M50 and base Taycan. And it blows the Mach-E away with its much more sophistcated powertrain and suspension. Oh and I got one for $12k off of MSRP in the US, I think it's a steal.

    • @michaelc2254
      @michaelc2254 Рік тому +20

      Agree. I canceled my i4 M50 order after a test drive in the EV6 GT, which I bought. I immediately felt more comfortable in the Kia - much better forward visibility and unlike Rory, I love the seats. I think the tech in the Kia is better, the paddle regen control is wonderful. I am also getting way better range than the EPA rating. How Rory can say the car has unnecessary power and is not fun is beyond me.

      This is also the first "negative" review I see of the EV6 GT, other reviewers where having a blast and where calling it the first real performance EV.

    • @viisin
      @viisin Рік тому +6

      Yeah, I don't get the seat comments. When I heard that I thought "Huh? I've never felt disccomfort along the thigh in this? I thought the seats were actually quite good".
      The climate/media control switching... never found that a problem either. Though these days I default it to climate (if I switch it to media it reverts to climate again after a few seconds) as nearly all the media controls are operated through buttons on the steering wheel.
      Australia may have a different suspension tune (or my prior experience is with stiff sports cars), but I'd hardly call the ride harsh, even in GT mode.
      I never really change the seat position, so lack of power seats isn't a big deal. Though I really would have liked the ventilation that is on the GT-Line seats.
      I haven't pushed my EV6 GT hard around corners yet (still getting used to it; don't want to bingle it), but there may be some truth to the lack of predictability mid corner. Shall see how much of that sense diappears once I'm more accustomed to the car.
      Overall, this car is a sensational drive, as well as a comfy cruiser. And in a squirt from the traffic lights it will destroy pretty much any ICE car out there.

      @pumpituphomeboy : I agree... I have watched Rory's reviews on cars I have no interest in, just because I enjoy his videos.
      Nevertheless, not everyone is annoyed by the same things; For example, Kia's Lane Keep Assist (LKA) is a real hate for me... I want to be able to 'ease' through a corner by touching the sideline without getting into a 'Tug of War' with the steering wheel. As for have the damned thing scare the carp out of my passengers by 'Bonging' repeatedly... HELL NO! I have tried and failed to turn this off in the menus; having to turn it off each trip is a faff. My BMW allows me to turn the steering-tugger off, and choose whether to have vibrate on, and at what level... it would never be so uncouth as to involve my passengers in the decision by yelling at them! AND IT REMEMBERS WHAT I TOLD IT!... it is my car, after all. 😡

    You dont have to press the heat button. If you're in one of the auto heating modes the car toggles that on and off for you. The reason its there is to allow you to use an ambient air fan to clear the windscreen without all the power use of using the heater. I own one. The turn radius is probably reduced due to the size of the electric motors, depending on their placement. Or possibly because it's using axles and CV joints from another vehicle, to save on R&D and production costs, making it difficult to optimize its turning radius, as the pre-existing parts are already a certain size.

    When people say that’s impressive “because it’s a Kia” they still think of the Kia of old, and a bit of badge snobbery is hinted in, the company has changed, it has gone through a complete overhaul, it no longer is that cheap, budget joke of a car company it use to be, it has now become a premium brand and a big time player, it offers performance, luxury and quality to that of European brands, Kia along with Hyundai have re-invented themselves and if you think they’re still a cheap run-of-the-mill car company you need to get that mentality out of your head.

Also for the slightly slimmer driver (🤣) the bolsters fit perfectly and don't dig in to your thighs.Overall it's an incredible car, especially when you consider it's half the price of the equivalent Taycan. I agree the heating controls are a bit annoying but it's no big deal. The power is quite addictive though. Certainly for most people the regular car is probably better (and more than fast enough) but that extra grunt is nice to have. My weekend toy is a BAC Mono, and in a straight line the KIA doesn't feel at all slow, that's mental. My Porsche 997 now sits in the garage most of the time.

    I have had one of these for 6 months. You don’t need to press the heat button if climate is in auto mode as it should be. Not remotely bothered about the lack of electric seats. No idea what Rory is going on about regarding the bolster 🤷‍♂️. I find the handling is great (and I’ve had M cars previously). Does Rory know how dual motors work? The GT has a more powerful rear motor and you can’t direct power from the front motor to the rear one. It has similar performance to a Tesla Model 3 P (which I had before my GT - the GT is a much better car) but I don’t recall Rory saying that had too much power. Seems like Rory set out to discredit the car from the off - unlike the other EV6 GT reviews. Strange.

      Whether it’s heat or auto, you do need to press a button in addition to setting the temp via the knob. Not the case on other cars.
      I think you misunderstood by point about moving power front and rear. Yes it has a less powerful motor up front, but my preference would be for it to use even less of the power it has at the front during cornering (in GT mode specifically).
      And ALL high performance EVs are unnecessarily fast - especially when they’re family cars whose primary purpose is not performance. The g-forces you pull when deploying the full and immediate torque are too uncomfortable to use regularly.

      @@AutoTraderTV that’s not true. Kia (and Hyundai) have auto climate control which controls the temperature (hot and cold) depending on what you set on the dial. Seems there is a common trend with AWD EVs that have 400+ of horse power. They accelerate like rockets on a straight line but on corners they show their weaknesses and cant compete with cars like the i30N. The only thing where these cars are fun at, is to awe other drivers at traffic lights.

    you need to be a skilled testdriver and take the car to the limits on a trackrace to be able to point out the true performance capabilties which are not seen on the datasheet. sadly none of this is the case here.
    but french automagazine l'argus did find out with a bunch of performance EVs on german nurburg ring.
    -Model 3 Performance couldn't do a single lap before its batteries overheated and poweroutput dropped below 50%. Also the brakes failed after the 3rd curve.
    -Porsche Taycan Turbo S went into turtle mode after the 1st lap due to overheating batteries,
    same with BMW i40 M50 which also handles poorly.
    While the Kia EV6 GT could finish 3 fast laps without issues (fastest 7:42...).
    in addition the EV6 GT consumed 94 kWh whereas BMW and Porsche took more than 130 kWh during the testcourse.

    The power of modern EVs is incredible, no doubt. 0-60 times are just silly now. But it's hard to compare to true sports cars because what you don't see on the paper stats is responsiveness under braking and cornering. EVs are great in a straight line, but they're still yet to impress in terms of feeland feedback around tight and twisty sections of road where the real fun comes to play.

      From a commercial perspective, I also don't see why manufacturers will build a battery capable of 500mile range and a 500,000 mile lifespan. If the batteries are that good to start, you'd only change the car based on the interior.
