Correction: The Kia EV6 featured in this video is the GT Line, rather than the GT.
Ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok
saved by the comment! I was readying to mock you for the foreseeable future about it! 😛
Great, now I'm gonna have to watch the whole video over again.
yeah, the GT won't be available at least early next year.
Yep
Most thrilling drag race...
...EVER
My heart was POUNDING the whole time. I’m still shaking.
It clearly is too much for Mat Wilson from Carwow to handle! ;-)
Couldnt see the whole video after 6 minutes got bored from this electric shit boxes

It was such a drag which means that it's twice as good
We were soo focused on the Ioniq 5 that we haven’t genuinely realized how gorgeous the EV 6 actually is😌
Just you m8
EV6 is as mess. Ioniq 5 is a masterpiece.
I disagree with most ppl and actually think the Kia inside and out looks better
Ioniq 5 actually looks better than the Kia EV6. However that's a preference.
they are both examples of great design.
Initially wanted an Ioniq 5, love the looks more than the EV6, but wanted something more interesting to drive. Did my sums and found I couldn’t afford either so I’ve settled for an Ioniq Electric, for now….
Loving your reviews Rory. Keep them coming.
Good choice, not everyone taste for sure but surely it’s a great ev car. 38kwh battery has a range similar to Vw id3 with 58kwh , ionic electric is one of the most efficient ev currently., 5+m/kWh ✅👌
@@toninocars yeah, it’s not the last word in style or driving dynamics but it’s much better than it looks and is perfect for what we need it for. I bought a dull grey one too 😉
Ha ha! My maths came to the very same answer....but I went for the e2008. Not as efficient by any means...but I like it. It serves its purpose well. Just need to sell one of kidneys now to get the Kia...🤣🤦
Good choice. Friend of mine here in France has one of the original (2017) Ioniq with the 28 kWh battery. It does everything they want and only needs a bit of planning on longer journeys, the efficiency beats everything out there. Their car is over 70,000 km without any probs at all. Their purchase got me to looking at the e-Niro and I have owned one of those since March 2019. Hyundai Motor Group are coming up with world beating designs and the build quality is as good as anything coming out of the European manufacturers. These cars will surely take market share from VW Group and others.
@@toninocars ppp
I really like the Ioniq 5 design. The light interior is beautiful. The exterior has plenty of interesting lines without pretending to need aggressive cooling or aerodynamic kit.
The Ionic 5 is my personal choice by far. It's a design Icon that might never be appreciated as much as it should be. KIA and Hyundai are still leading the charge in design and engineering. As for your shooting location, it was gorgeous. Better looking than the cars by far.
Saw the EV 6 for the first time on the roads yesterday. What a stunning piece of design. Far better than anything the Germans are churning out. I haven’t seen the Model Y yet on the road, but I expect that won’t impress as much as the Korean pair.
seen an ioniq 5 the other day, and it looks a lot better than pictures or films. but would still go for the ev6
A model y ? Seems just like a model 3 to my eyes no surprises there
Model Y looks like a bloated Model 3. Awkward looking piece, just as bad as wonky Model X.
Tesla never excited me, rather i just jawn
Tesla designs aren't particularly impressive imho, they look a bit bland and boring, but I guess design is very subjective.
Ioniq 5 looks way better to me.
From the time these were introduced, I always felt like each of these models were assigned to the wrong brand. The Ioniq fits more with Kia's sharper design language while the EV6 aligns with Hyundai's more swoopy design language.
I prefer the design of the Ioniq 5 but also the interior of the EV6. I have a similar sized car right now and I don´t care if I have to walk around to fold the seats because I do that perhaps 3 -4 times a year.
Both are very capable cars and both look good, but I opted for th EV6, and I love it, only done 1000 miles so far, and keep looking for excuses to drive it.
Thanks for the comparison video.
Hmmm... I have to say, the edginess of the Ioniq 5 does it for me. That interior and body styling is just so cool!
Genuinely considering one of these two. Thanks for the vid guys!

PERFECT TIMING - I was just looking at plans for these two
The EV6 is my favorite of the electric vehicles released.
Don’t overlook the inability to put AWD on the “light” trim. The other vehicles do allow for that option.
Lastly Kia is on average the highest dealership mark up of these companies including VW, ford, Hyundai, etc.
Just saw the Ionic 5 in person for the first time yesterday. Such a great looking car! Wouldn't mind owning one at all!
The center console being a 'gimmick' is completely disregarding the fact that shorter/smaller people have a ton of trouble driving and being comfortable in mid to large sized cars. What for you is a gimmick, for someone else it could be an insta-buy feature.
We had a Renault grand Scenic from 2012 until recently, and that had a slidable centre console, which is more useful than people might think.
The sliding center console is also greatly paired with the relaxation seats. You push it all the way back and can still use it while laying down. You can't do this in EV6.
The sliding centre console has been on many earlier Hyundai models before.
I've had my EV6 RWD for about a week and I'm SOOOOO impressed by it. Awesome engineering.
Still happy with the ev6? Biggest pros and cons for you so far? Any maintenance issues? Happy with range? Im getting my glacier white awd on the first of december. Very excited!😊
Thats good they both ate really good so im glad its good hope it stays strong.
@ismailweber1899 Extremely impressed with it. Amazing traffic fighter with its instant acceleration. Very comfortable when cruising. Quiet. Efficient. I did have 1 maintenance issue; the stereo Amp doesn't put out full power. Waiting for part.
Proof of how phenomenally good a Rory Review is.
2 amazing cars receiving the Rory treatment 👏🏽
Kia has come a long way from "the cheap and cheerful korean" to a real contender in today's market. For me, i always hate Kia putting the rear turn signals at the bottom of their vehicles. A lot of times they are hard to see when i sit lower in my car. But this Kia EV is more like it, putting the signals around the waistline where other motorists can see better i reckon. I think this Kia EV ticks most of the boxes for me, except for the rear butt design. Would seriously consider it when time comes to get my next EV! As always, good job Rory! Always entertaining to watch your work. I especially like the intense race of these EVs. It was so nailbittingly close!!!🤣
Love you reviews man!
I watch a ton of similar ones, but you are the best!
Rory, You are a hero. Thank you for this super review. We as a family, are all over this. Your organization will see some definite improved car sales in the UK ,thanks to your review .
I’m just waiting to see these two in person, there hasn’t been a motor show in my country since Jan last year, just before COVID shut everything down. If there’s one next January, I hope to see these two and have a proper feel for them. This EV stuff is just so interesting.
I have looked at both cars. The Hyundai starts cheap but ends up over £50k once all of the options are added. However, the deal breaker was the choice of colours. Hyundai have insisted on a series of matt colours where as KIA offers real gloss paint in a proper range of colours. If you are paying £50k for a car, your choice of colour is actually important for many people.
*matte
That red colour on ev6 though, gorgeous colour and gorgeous car it's perfect 💚😁👌
Well 2 of the 9 ‘shades of grey’ options are matte rest are solid, pearl or metallic. My ioniq 5 is metallic gloss. There are muted blue, green and olive colours. But no brights.
I don't know if it was the wonderful British weather in the background, or the roads, or Rorys clothes, or looking at the two cars, but my goodness did it give me feelings of nostalgia, especially the Ioniq 5 with it's retro look, and I find myself back in the 80's when I was a kid watching Back to the future. I have never subbed to a car channel or liked a presenter this much, after the Clarkson, May, Hammond TG series, so fast. Well done to you Rory, and to AutoTrader! Simply magnificent. 💙
That Hyundai is just soo beautiful I love it from the first time I saw you reviewed it.very practical and futuristic all the same.just a damnnnn beauty
Thanks for the review. Comes in handy as I'm just touring dealers for these two beasts. The EV6 has the edge for me, but I'll decide after test driving both.
I’ve got an Ioniq 5 on order. Delivery due in March - can’t wait !
so.,..how is it?
I had the Ionic 5 on order forever and drove it 5 times as I waited. I ended going with the EV6. Nothing beats the exterior looks of the Ionic 5 - definitely my style, but I went with the EV6 because of the view of the hood from the driver's seat, the black dash instead of the white bezel, the seating position felt more like a sportscar than an SUV and a little bit better driving dynamics IMHO. I will admit when I see that Ionic body design today - I wish I had both :)
same here. Ioniq wins with exterior but ev6 has better everything else
Interesting that Rory found the driving dynamics and ride similar. Other reviewers find the Ioniq softer and less fun to drive. Thanks for the review.
I don't think you can go wrong with either. I fell in love with the look of the Ioniq 5 from the beginning and saving some money added to the decision. In the states, we are getting a Kia EV6 RWD car with a 58 kWh battery as well. Interestingly, we are not getting a RWD version of the First Edition with the 20 inch wheels.
Great review again and like your slot on the new 5th Gear Rory. Very much down to personal preferences as they are both, unsurprisingly, very similar great cars. In the current market it's also about which you can get your hands on in your preferred spec.... I was lucky enough to get the Ioniq 5 P45 with the solar roof, 2 year Ionity deal and other unique features that has turned out to be a relative bargain at £48k.
I'm more interested in the GT versus N battle next year, one I suspect Hyundai will win based on their other N models. Look forward to that Rory.
I’m so lucky that I can have both in my garage. Ioniq 5 in AWD version and for long distances I’m using EV6 RWD. Thanks for the review Rory.
There's something futuristic in the body design language of the Hyundai. You can tell it's a car(electric car) from the future by just looking at it.
We’re getting there. I’m a lot more interested and less worried about the future of EVs after seeing the content on Autotrader this month. Still a bit pricey though.
Great vid and very well presented, keep em coming
Great vid, really interesting viewing. Thanks. Look forward to a long run in the EV 6
you videos are soo beautifully and colourfully recorded/edited in lovely sceneries too , great to watch!
I'd take both, I just can't afford either. Great review RR - thanks!
EV6 is lovely.
I've just bought an old man's 2021 Jazz Hybrid.
Will use that for two years and then go for the EV6 once it's settled down. Looks spanking 😉
Great video and info 😘
Just got a Jazz aswell. Brilliant car,way better than my golf 8.
@@andrewfinkelsteintennis1915 You should of bought an Octavia instead of the Golf 8.
@@patrickbateman6885 you are right! But after 5 good golfs I didn't think they'd screw it up!
Weird way to compare the two models.. especially price and charging speed. Wouldn't it have been logical to compare the EV6 (which comes with 72kWh battery per default) with the long-range version of the Ioniq5? In that case, they are equal in charging speed and equal in range and equal in price.
We really have two nice siblings here.. while I chose the Ioniq5 for myself because of the retro pixel design, I can fully understand why others may prefer the more futuristic face and slightly sportier drivetrain of the EV6.
The Kia cable bag you were holding up contains the granny charger & the V2L connector so not all cables. The type 2 cable is in a round bag just like Ioniq 5.
Yeah that was a bit weird tbh. Also who keeps them in the bag? Mostly people that never use them...
It's just a shame cars are so big. Would love the Ioniq 5 if it was scaled to 85%. I would have it in Martini Racing colours ala Lancia Delta :)
You should have compared 2 models that have a close price. I think the EV6 costs about 5k euro more for the same trim and options.
AutoTrader with Rory doing exceptional job will surely beat Carwow in future.
The perfect mix of cars that AutoTrader reviews appeals to any customer range. Unlike carwow that began targeting only high end, supercars AutoTrader does a splendid job balancing range of budget, affordable, mid range, premium vehicles.
This E-vember has been epic! Every episode has been awesome. We're in the market for an EV and this series has kept me and the wife excited.
Quite interesting comparison, but why not performing a real (though classical) drag / rolling / breaking distance race to have a complete overview view of both products ?
Great review, Rory! I'm sold on the EV6. But can i get a clip with a couple of car seats and toddlers in the back?
Ioniq for me, came out£100 more at lease for EV6 and the short kids in the back found it too chlostraphobic. Also, going from an Octavia to a smaller bit made me appreciate the rear seats going forward and back and on a long journey the kids can recline.
In the same boat, got an octavia and am looking at the i5. How do you find it compares to the octavia for carrying stuff? The boot on the octavia is brilliant but not sure i can manage with the hyundai.
@@rich6276 sorry, I don't collect the i5 until April, but went from the Octavia to a Zoe temporarily, so it will be massive after that. One thing all the reviews miss, if you put the seats forward, not only is there more space in the boot (might actually match the Octavia) but there is a great big gap below the boot level and behind the seats that will be great for things like sleeping bags when we go on holiday. The seats going forward is not a problem because although the Octavia had great leg room in the back, v the i5 has amazing leg room so the rear seats can go forward a bit.
Will be great when the Genesis GV60 comes out, then they'll be three EV's based on the same platform to choose from...😎
Great presentation bro and Great video keep up the great
Thank you so much guys❤️ for making this
I saw my first Inonic 5 at a Hyundai dealer this week. Just wasn't that impressive looking inside or out and that crease in the doors is a game over thing for me. Looking forward to seeing the Kia and also the genesis EV60 soon. I wonder how this reviewer found getting in and out of the two as at least one reviewer has said the Kia has a lower entry exit which made it easier to hit his head. And what about seat height off the ground. Sportier cars are harder to get in and out of which can be a real pita for every day driving.
Went for the ioniq5, as it seemed a lot more light and airy inside than the Kia, especially in the back. BUT mika davies is so right about the colours.
Nice video. What are the prices of these pimped up press cars though?
great review, but why is it that you say the Kia has a 490L boot size plus the frunk, when many others including the official figures say that it's 520L plus the frunk?
Nice review although I've got an order in for the 'loser'. Tested both but in the end just preferred the Hyundai. Went for the Ultimate AWD w/Tech pack and can't wait although with the delivery timings getting later and later I have no idea when it'll arrive. One thing I would correct on your review is that not all the Hyundai's come with the dash video for blind spots etc, you'll need the additional Tech pack for that.
Exactly the kind of compare needed. Cheers!
Could you do a video for the skoda enyaq coupe 80 IV please. The standard version not the top spec
Been waiting for this ever since your separate reviews came out.
Another brilliant review Rory! Thank you.
Interesting that you found little to no difference in the driving feel. Everyone else has said the EV6 is sportier. Maybe they're being influenced by the more aggressive looks of the EV6
Korean motoryoutuber "Asian Petrolhead" also found little to no difference in the driving feel. He tells that Ioniq 5 handles slightly better on the limit. I guess that is probably because of factory fitted Michelin tires on Ioniq 5.
There is a huge difference in driving feel for the single motor versions. I've driven both multiple times. The ioniq is super comfy, but on country roads it feels like you'd almost bounce off the road. The ev6 handles much more stable, feels like there's less roll into corners, probably due to lower centre of gravity. Depending on what you're looking for you can't go wrong with either.
That was an intense Drag Race 🏁 🏎
wow i just finished watching your Ioniq 5 review. and this video popped up
I've been waiting for this _head to head_ review from a _GREAT REVIEWER._
_Just a shame Rory's doing it..._ 8-))...
Joke aside.
Great review Rory and probably the best *_drag race_* ever seen.
My vote would be for the EV6 purely on looks. But that's not to say the Ionic 5 isn't bad looking. It's just... Different. But in a good way 8-))...
Design wise ioniq 5 looks cool & nice .
I agree- And I believe that the Hyundai has a unique body style and the the Kia has a similar look to many other brands
@@BigBundy82 true , this time Hyundai tried something like neo retro type design .
EV6 looks like a car made for teenagers. It stands out a bit more, but not in a good way for me.

Rory did you do any night driving as I'm curious about how good or bad you found the headlights. My reasoning is 90% of my driving is in the dark during our winter. Getting loan of a car to test drive for a weekend is practically impossible where I live. I have it down to 3 vehicles which includes these 2 and the Enyaq.
Excellent point . I too, appreciate good headlights. I didn't realize how much better modern led lights were. My nissan altima has some great lights. Even on low beams, I can see out to about a good quarter mile, without blinding the on coming traffic. The high beams really reach out. When I dipped my old mercedes lights it felt like I had turned them off.
I’m very much enjoying the coverage. Very well done Rory, you have been brilliant!
In America the ionic 5 has a $44k with the larger batery 303 est miles like all the other models...it offers a 258 miles 55kw batery for 39k. The 6 from kia the lowest trim at 47k is only 258 and you have to go up to 49-52 to get the 303 mile range 77kw batery.
Just a point on the power levels believe the 585bhp EV6 GT is not available for sale yet. Is this not the 325bhp version currently on sale?
They are both available to order, have been for a few months now. My dealer has quite a few GT versions on order (the 585bhp).
@@techable7524 order and on sale are 2 different things, his point is right, that was the gt line in the video and not the fastest gt
@@KA-zh2rq Don't see the difference sorry between on sale and available to order.
@@techable7524 it’s okay, some people aren’t the brightest crayon in the box, don’t feel bad. When a car is on sale, that usually means that you can go to a dealer and buy one and drive home with it. When a car is on order, it means it’s just available to put a deposit down while you wait for it to go on sale and actually receive it. So the GT model is not on sale, just available to order. For me, personally, the EV6 any day. It’s just great 👌🏾
Which one has more space in the back, for car camping, or transporting a bike or 2 inside the car?
Best review of these two EVs on UA-cam. Great job!
The one thing I would have liked to see if a proper front trunk like you find Teslas or the Mach-E. Outside of that one little want, I think the EV6 is absolutely stunning. I can't wait to see start seeing these in the US. Now more than ever we are really needing better charging infrastructure.
how much electricity costs to charge in the home? is it much cheaper than fuel?
Really interesting comparison and also great fun to watch.
just want to say, these two cars reminded me of Gaban and Sharivan, a kids show from japan about 30yrs ago..lol (one was silver, and one was red) the style (outlook design) was similar to this..haha
Rory you are a fooking legend my dude! Another solid video keep it up man!
Wow just amazing machines.
I want to own both. I can’t choose over the other not fair.
Wow, a great review. If we did stars it would be five stars. Now I don't do stars but if I did well, anyway just great stuff. Kia for me has been extremely reliable. Far better than other experiences from other car companies. From my first ride where I found myself saying "This Kia Soul what's bad about this?" That was about 7 years ago and there are always bumps in the road but over all the cars have done anything the others did and better. More reliable, less wear and tear, and lasted. Please wear a mask. It encourages others to wear one. Steve McQueen wore one. Be Steve McQueen. Cheers Rory !
Good review...colour needs tweaking a bit though...the EV6 looks more orange than the red it actually is.
will both cars come with run-flat tires, or will they have a donut spare/jack/tools?
the ioniq 5 just reminds me of my old MG maestro from my youth, very retro but for me the Kia ev6 looks alot more modern and sleek.
after watching this, it makes me think the ioniq would be better as the daily commuter type car, where range shouldn't be an issue, whereas the ev6 looks to me like it would make the better longer range cruiser, so for something like a weekend away.
If the ioniq had a GT model with equal range/performance then this would make for a more interesting head to head over which to opt for.
question though is the ioniqs "extra" boot space because you can move the seats forward? otherwise they looked basically the same.
Really liking your reviews and presenting style on this channel Rory. The right balance of detail; not dumbed down like some channels and not adenoidal nerdiness either. Video length is good too as 20+ minutes is sometimes just a commitment of time too far for a casual watch.
His eyes put me off, needs to wear some sunglasses
Totally agree with video… EV6 is just that 5-10% better than Ioniq5, in most areas. But yeah, two great cars - you’d happily run either, so ultimately it comes down to a mix of personal preferences and budgets!
I'd like to see a sort of tournament for these electric cars and their competitors, seeing which fare batter in which cases. That'd be amazing
So, family car, I'm looking at cargo space, safety, and range at this point. I think the kia wins, but then is cargo really at 580 litres did you say? I think a Tesla three has more than that, no? Safety wise is either of these better? I'd like to upgrade to one of these but what are waiting times like if we order now?
Check out Björn Nylands banana box tests and you'll see real world tests. Liter doesn't mean anything if you can't utilize it.
Interesting that you didn't spot the Kia Cord bag doesn't fit in its rear boot cubby - and that front headrests push forward uncomfortably? I agree Kia is the best of the two; the looks of the Ionic are going to get tired quickly I think.
How does the price compare to the model y?
Rory, can you please answer the question (preferably with a demonstration) - as electric cars don't have gears and electric motors work just as well in either direction - can an eV go just as fast backwards as they can forwards?
In theory, yes. They're software limited though to lower speeds in reverse
Ripe for hacking then!
For reasons I don't understand the Kia EV6 does exist with a 58kWh battery pack, but it's not for sale in the UK. Over the pond the 58kWh Kia is even cheaper than the base version of the Hyundai.
Both fab choice, but I chose the Ioniq. I think the interior much more flexible than EV6. I think review is incorrect that EV6 has 570bhp - that model is coming next year. The EV6 tested as 320HP. My Ioniq is AWD with 305HP - so need to compare like-for-like. But wrong decision on the test :-)
The EV6 and KIA overall is over designing there cars to me....which leads to not aging well...The Ionic 5 looks better to me....top spec model of Ionic 5's rear seats are full powered reclining and moving forward and back....I bet you could control it from the infotainment system in the front....great review
Entertaining as always, Rory!
For me I'd have to go with the Kia EV6. The Hyundai visually is trying way too hard, where as the Kia looks legitimately beautiful.
Knowing the fact that lot of efforts and hard work goes into making a car, this guy literally murdered Hyundai ioniq 5... specially the last part where explosion takes place in ioniq 5... the guy should have some respect for companies who make these amazing cars..
WOW, nice job of foreshadowing the loss with the Hyundai pony reference. No car comes back from that association. Both cars seem like solid offerings but i wish Kia would clean up the busy rear end design of the EV 6. Lol, that drag race tho. Great job as always.
You forgot to mention few things. First the Ioniq 5 back seats are higher than on the EV6 and you can slide your feet under front seats on the Ioniq 5 wich is not possible on the EV6. Second, talking about the charger kit, you can put it in the box underneath the trunk in the Ioniq 5 but not in the EV6. It's not deep enough to close the cover completely. Third, the outside visibility is better on the Ioniq 5 than on the EV6. Fourth, there is more hard plastic components (doors, etc..) in the Ioniq 5 than on ther EV6.
Your last sentence is wrong. That only applies if you don't look at the top trim level of i5. There's no plastic on the side of the doors. This is also what Mat @ Carwow said and your comment smells like you've only watched that video. :)
Which one has the better knobs?
What color is that on the EV6? It’s gorgeous.
I still prefer the EV6, is the GT worth waiting for at £58000 ?? The published 0-60 for GT line is 5.4, but a road test came in at 4.85, so does that mean the GT at 3.5 published will be close to 3.00. That is very very quick. Choices, choices ?? Good video Rory. A
