I think the best thing about this is: this man had no way to know, back in 2006, that he would be able to self-publish his work. So he either started out with a mind to make the best movie he could for himself, or he had 100% hope that this thing he made on his own would pique the interest of studios and distributors. And that's the kind of attitude you need, really. Legendary.
Watched it. This was great. I think it's so important for people to just give people a chance, to look past some of the errors and try it out, especially for someone who has a big audience, that's pretty awesome.
We can see how the animation/rendering improves towards the end. Software got better, computers got better, he got better. Congratulations for finishing it.
Its so easy to hate on things nowadays. I really began to respect you and your channel for being so positive about this movie, especially since it took 13 years of work.
Kind of reminds me of the captain scarlet reboot The animation and voice acting were at about this level, but each episode is so gripping that I've watched the whole show, like, three times.
This reminds me of XRA, where the strange visuals are part of the show’s ubique charm and it’s actually filled with tons of thoughtful and hilarious writing
I've had this movie in a background tab in my browser waiting to watch for over a year now. I wasn't feeling terribly motivated to do anything tonight, so I finally watched it. It was alright. I'm not a big movie watcher in the first place, so it dragged just a bit for me, but it wasn't too bad. The visuals didn't really bother me, and I really think they made the slapstick bits better. I quite enjoyed the bumbling king. When a sequel comes out in another thirteen years, I'll be on board.
This film looks like the entire pre-viz of a film any studio would produce that could make money. Seriously, the action scenes made look as good as the pre-viz for films like Mission Impossible Rogue Nation. Kind of low key wish a studio would pay him a lout of money to let them fully adapt it so everyone can see the effort

Good on you, Cody Vibbart and good on you, Austin for bringing this movie into my life. Seriously, if you have Amazon Prime, check it out. Buy it maybe even!
I love the fact that you spend so much time supporting creators lesser known than you. It's so cool, and it feels almost natural, whereas in real world (em.. real UA-cam?) it almost never happens. Cheers!
If I saw this film with no context, I would assume it's the opening cutscene of a PS2 Video game a la GTA San Andreas or something. I'd be sitting there, thinking "oh wow, cool cutscene, but when does the gameplay start?"
The beginning of Play Station 2 animation aesthetics. We emerged from realism and cutesy stuff to retro stuff. Like games have pixel art, and the only thing that makes sense to have as an indie animator is to have the retro-2001 style of animation. Also, some of the greatest games had this kind of graphics.
Those snippets you showed looked like unrendered compositions of textbook AAA game cut scenes/blockbuster movies. Goes to show, this dude right here has an EYE for scene composition and cinematography. IMAGINE IF THOSE MODELS AND SCENES WERE PLUGGED INTO MODERN 3D SOFTWARE! Watched it. This was great. I think it's so important for people to just give people a chance, to look past some of the errors and try it out, especially for someone who has a big audience, that's pretty awesome.
2:54 idk why but that policeman grabbing the sheriff's hat and wearing it while aliens are attacking cracked me up.
It's a running gag somehow. Earlier he stole a megaphone, and then a handgun from that same sheriff.
The full movie literally showed up next to this one...on youtube....phenomenal job Cody! 👏👏👏
My boyfriend came in the living room when the film first started and watched with me. He said the movie won him over, lol we liked it.
We can see how the animation/rendering improves towards the end. Software got better, computers got better, he got better. Congratulations for finishing it.
If we get this a Theater run it could legitimately win the Oscar for best animated feature.
Its so easy to hate on things nowadays. I really began to respect you and your channel for being so positive about this movie, especially since it took 13 years of work.
its animated like a videogame
Kind of reminds me of the captain scarlet reboot
The animation and voice acting were at about this level, but each episode is so gripping that I've watched the whole show, like, three times.
1:08
Is that Brendon fricking Urie
He got High Hopes for theaters to open again.
@@comixproviderftw_02 get out of the goddamn door
This reminds me of XRA, where the strange visuals are part of the show’s ubique charm and it’s actually filled with tons of thoughtful and hilarious writing
Wait, the name of the alien planet is 'Galicia'? That's a real location in Spain.
Its also something to do with Ukraine. Galicia-Volhynia or something like that
Its now on youtube! Spread the word my manses
We need to get penguinz0 to watch this, so it can become the next Killer Bean
How the heck he can stay motivated in 13 years? When my project is taking more than 2 months I tend to burn out.... Props to the creator
Takes a special kind of dedication, for sure!
Yes! I love Austin's film commentary and this movie looks wonderful. 😂
*I had a comment on here asking about my own animated movie that i made in highschool, but it appears to have been removed.*
This story seems to be better than The Last of us 2.
And the face animations are better than the ones in Mass Effect Andromeda.
Also this was a great video!
Dude! I watched your video 2 years ago and then watched the movie and forgot both it's name and that you are the one that introduced me to it and have been searching relentlessly ever since.
I was watching another one of your videos and your voice just clicked "that's the dude that told me about that cartoon". I freaking tell everyone about this movie!
The character "Kyle", looks like if Bob Saget had Hepatitis C.
Hep C stacks on 20lbs of muscle and gives you Superman's chin?
An animation studio should work with him! That would be so cool!
Ngl, I started to watch it and I'm really appreciating the attention to detail :)
These videos are keeping me sane right now
Remember my words, in at least 5 years you will be watching a high budget adaptation of this movie on a giant screen with popcorn in your hands.
this is honestly very inspiring. if this guy could spend more than a decade creating something, why can't i or anyone else spend even just a couple of years doing what we want to do? thank you cody, you're truly an awesome inspiration to the creative community. no joke!
Guess I'm watching The Exigency now.
Give this guy a production team
In some parts it feels like a mass effect cutscene
Half Life (the original Half Life, which, to say the truth, still holds up).
David Njihia It holds up in some aspects, sure, but the gunplay isn’t that great
The home planet "bad news bear" girl looks like default fem Shep
I stopped watching this vid 3 minutes in just so I don’t get any more spoilers cause I genuinely want to see it now.
Watched it. Honestly good. There were great sight gags and fun characters and some pretty good voice acting, all things considered. I liked the story.
Cheers!
I’m catching serious Mass Effect vibes from it. Which is a good thing!
The sequel has just been announced!
This could be the next Astartes Project. Only the facial animations would give it away as an amateur work! But holy crap! Mad respect for this one-man project!
