  • You guys asked and I finally found one! It is of course the Iconic Seadoo HX. When I saw this Seadoo HX 1996 717 pop up on Ebay at £500, it seemed like a joke! I of course rang the owner immediately and much to my surprise, it was genuine. As the story goes the owner had owned it for 7 years, and fast forward years later, the HX had been sat in his barn not being used. He said he had run out of time, passion and energy to finish the restore on it. He assured me it had 150psi per cylinder and that he had work done on it. Join me on another purchase day, was it my perfect opportunity to bag a cheap clean HX?

    25 years ago when I was a kid/teenager, the 1996 HX I shared so many moments with my dad and family was stolen. Since then, I've always wanted to have one again. Yesterday, in the company of my 4-year-old daughter, I went to see one with the intention of buying and restoring it. As I examined it closely, I found every detail and small repair that my father had made back then. Incredibly, I recovered my old after so much time! I just check the serial number and it matches with the title my mom still has. It's like a dream come true!

      Man, that’s such a touching story! Reconnecting with your old 1996 HX and finding all those details your dad worked on must be an incredible feeling. It’s amazing that you could bring it back into your life, especially with your little girl by your side. What a perfect full-circle moment!

      The HX is such a blast to ride, even with its quirks. I haven't had the chance to ride mine yet since I’m still restoring it, but I can’t wait to experience it. It’s going to be worth it. Thanks for watching ✌👌

      Its ok..very unstable but perfect for carving for like buoy racing. Very small market for them.
      Not sure how anyone could buy one thinking they could fish off it.
      Just buy a small aluminum fishing boat if you wanna fish.
      I always say, riding an X4 like a 96 XP is like riding a dirtbike on water...while riding an HX is like riding a unicycle on water lol.

      High praise but I'm sure it's fair praise...so many have said the exact same thing to me...hence working so hard to find one. It, like so many other Seadoo's, has such a rich history and for many is the closest competitor to what I have read to the Iconic Blaster 1... I'm so excited to get out on it, but need fully recommissioned first...thanks for watching dude

      @@GCEXTREMEMN Interesting insight mate...can't wait to give it a go... for many they say this is the closest Seadoo made to a stand up...as in its a very wet ride... I think its intended to carve even better than a X4... the X4 are pretty stable so keen to feel the HX under me.. I'm pretty sure it won't be as bad as many make out... Everyone told me X4's were tippy and IMO they're not much different to a GSX etc... matter of what you're used to I guess... Thanks for tuning in mate and your other comment... Awesome pickup mate! If he hasn't turned it over in nearly 8 years, id always drop some 2 stroke oil in the top of the cylinders though before spinning her over just to ensure some lubrication on dry cylinder walls and rings, unless you know you'll be pulling it all down later anyway.

    Oil injection appears to be there as i can see the feed oil line and filter.
    Is that primer setup thats mounted under the hood edge there stock? I don't think so. Why would they mount the primer for starting it under the hood? Who wants to have the hood open to start it when the bars and start button are still on the hood and gonna be a pain to prime and start while on the ski? Pretty sure these came with choke cable.
    Yep at 13:51 you can see the mount plate for the original choke cable..so someone removed that and put a primer under the hood.
    The grounding mounting plate on the front engine is an easy replacement i have tons of them.
    Engine compression is good. Hope the crank seals are still good. I like to put in a ball valve in the main oil line to help save the crank seals as these are notorious for leaky seals from sitting with all the oil pressure from the tank.
    Great video man!

    • @classicjetskis
      @classicjetskis  9 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for the input mate, yes all the injection is present, just need to check the pump, do all the lines etc... Carb is also completely gummed up! Yes the Primer confused me also, I will obviously remove this, fill and repair the screw holes (annoying as hell!) and then reinstate the OEM choke... pretty sure to add this primer the original butterfly's in the carb will be gone?
      I have already found a ground plate, just need to work on removing the sheered bolts.
      I will go through everything when the engines out including seals... I want it right as its got the potential to be a very clean ski... most of the cosmetics are good... all OEM HX matting is good, seat has no rips etc...I can also get a good trace off the seadoo decal on the seat to respray with a stencil...so its in exactly the same position etc
      Will have to repair and fill the primer hole on the side by the fuel tap... and also find a pink knob... I'll get it all done, will just take time to find the parts...
      Thanks for watching and supporting mate

    • @GCEXTREMEMN
      @GCEXTREMEMN 9 місяців тому

      @@classicjetskis yes the choke butterflies are removed and the hole for the bolt pin for the butterflies is where the primer hose fitting gets put, usually people jbweld them in.
      I originally did a primer conversion on my 951 swapped XP but recently switched back to choke with a different set of carbs i rebuilt.
      Looks to be a good project.

I have seen guys on Esty, the likes of KRPSignsGraphics (Ivan) and StickerBombingGifts... but their kits are miles off the standard I would want to match OEM... thats why I have started making my own decals by tracing every decal off the ski itself... the issue with this HX is I don't have the reference decals to trace so will need to buy a set... unless I can trace off someone else, which I will also try do.
