Armstrong is still the youngest stage winner in the Tour the France (in modern times) when he won in 1993 . Armstrong was 21 years old in 1993 until his birtday on 18 september. Pogacar is 21 in 2020 until his birtday on 21 september. But Armstrong won on 11 july and Pogacar on 6 september. That difference is way more than 3 days! .
I will never forget at last year’s Tour of California when I was working in the green room printing leaders jerseys and after handing Pogacar’s swani the Young Rider Jersey I remarked to Tadej that it matched his UAE kit. He replied “I only care about yellow.’ Granted it was tectonically a golden Jersey at ToC, the confidence was strong...especially for a then just out his teens new-pro. He went on to win what would be the last ToC a few days later.
Bernal won the ToC year before, and both did it with such apparently effortless class that it made me sit up and notice just watching on television. When you see someone truly exceptional, you know it the very first the time. They just look different than everyone else...
Great show. Not just because I am from Slovenia and it is almost surreal you guys are talking so much about my countrymen. But in general very interesting insights.
you were just highlighted on Belgium TV after tour show "Vive le Velo" with guest commentators Sven Nys and Eddy Plancart. They showed a clip with the correct pronunciation of Pogachar's name... I enjoy your show ( apparently not the only one in Belgium ) and hearing Johan's comments as well. -signed Farzani an American Expat living in Belgium and Spain.
I'm so grateful for this show..you guys are the best!. Lance and George, do you guys remember the Fitchburg Longsjo Classic Stage Race in Massachusetts 1986 or 1987? I raced with you guys, I was on Bud Light.. Lance smashed everyone. I remember you went up Mt.Wachusset in your big chain ring sitting down!! I'll never forget that! Be well guys..see you Tuesday!
Lance is still the youngest rider to win a Stage in the TdeF because this year's race is in Sept. vs July. Lance was 21 years, 9 months and 23 days old with his win on 7/11/93. Pogocar was 21 years, 11 months and 16 days old today.
We all know that the Best Climber award is not intended for the rider who is fighting for GC. It's for the guy who fights for all the breakaway climbs at the beginning and middle of each stage, while the GC guys are being pampered in the peloton.

What would be the best way to 'fix' the polka-dot? What if they based it on total ascent time for all categorized climbs, and whichever rider has climbed the fastest cumulatively wears it on the day?
Indeed, the green jersey doesn't make any sense at all either. It's either designed for the best sprinter: hence the high points earned in flat stages and intermediate sprints, or it's designed for the most consistent finisher, but then the points should be equal every stage, as is the case in the Vuelta a España. The last time the best sprinter in the TdF won the green jersey that year was in 2011. Also 43:23: "The rider who has the polka dot jersey, he sprints in the beginning of the stage for 2 little climbs and then on the first big climb he's dropped in the first 20 riders, that doesn't make any sense." That stupid statement does not make any sense. Every rider who gets yellow on stage 1 or any other stage in the first week is usually not even a GC contender. Should the yellow jersey be revised as well? Your idea for the polka dot jersey is very fair, but way too complicated to put into practice.
With the advent of accurate GPS on the bikes, the climber's jersey points should be based on the fastest times up the climbs, that way you could still give points to all the catagorised climbs like they do now.
Nice show as always lads. Dam where to start! Not often we get so see four GC riders time trialling at the end to catch a lone breakway rider. And all sprinting for it right at the end. Dam I wanted Hirshi to get the sprint though. I know it's a pro competition and everyone needs vital seconds but couldn't they have given it to him! And for Quintana - just hope he is able to mix it with the big boys on the key Alpine stages. Such a huge fan, and luckily he came over the top with a motivated second GC group who didn't just sit on the back of his wheel. 11 seconds is a good save and hopefully after the rest day he re-finds his legs and can go again. Lots to play for going forward and how nice we finally get to watch a TDF without the Sky/Indeos train stifling all the attacks over the best part of a decade. This is how it should be and bring on the rest of it.
they probably have a residence there, like many other high paid athletes cause of the taxes, but i think it's safe to say not many of them spend much time there... eurosport just tries to make it more interesting for the viewers

The first one is easy to mention because it is the title of your podcast, but the second might be harder since you lost that sponsor. Maybe Lance can start his own liquor company entitled "šef" after the word for Boss in Slovenian! Keep up the great podcast guys!
correction Lance: col de la Loze which will be climbed at the end of stage 17 is actually harder than ventoux. It is a little higher (2300 m), similar length and average gradient but the last 6 kms are tremendously hard. 6km at 10% average gradient, which are basically a succession of flat sections and 15-20% ramps. A typical climb for pure class climbers such as Pogacar, Quintana or Bernal. I think with the Alps still to come, Bernal and Quintana are the winners of the first week to me. Pogacar is amazing (it s been 1.5-2 years that this guy is showing strong promises for the future so he is no surprise to me), but his abilities on high mountains are still to be demonstrated... Keep up with the amazing show. Greetings from France.
I never rode Ventoux, but went to see Loze this summer, and it's crazy. It will be man on man, everyone full gas, purely about who has a good day. You can be 60kg, but if you don't feel 100%, you can easily lose 5 minutes in the last few km of Loze.
@@michaltoman2805 I agree 100% if you feel bad at the end of the climb, you can easily loose several minutes in the last 6kms. There is going to be bodies everywhere and the gaps will be huge in my opinion. The guy who wins this stage is likely to be in yellow in the Champs Elysées. Quintana remains my favorite for the GC if he finds his early-season form back in col de la Loze.

Hey guys, greetings from France :) A technical question: who do you think is the favourite for the somewhat unusual uphill TT? Can a "pure" climber do well or would you still favour a powerful guy like Dumoulin?
I remember using an app called sleep cycle on my iPhone back in the day it would measure when you were at your deepest sleep during the night resting heart rate in the morning and wake you up at the correct time so as to not drag you out of a deep sleep the alarm would have a half an hour window it was a really good app
Hey Guys! Great show. Love hearing Johan's thoughts and insights. Thanks for having him on. My questions is... Since Lance was known so well for his spinning cadence; did Lance ever you use a Compact Crank such as a 50/34 during any ever his Tour wins? and if not, would he now if he was still racing? Also, what where his high and low gears on his Crank, and his high and low gears in his rear Cassette? Thanks, Love the show! 🙂 Karim
actually evidence is starting to reveal that the chance of outside transmission is limited...so if riders pop positive, it's probably not the fans. It'll be (maybe??) from between the teams, or people they know, and likely indoors...etc.. /(uv light factors...)
81caasi . There’s evidence on the TV footage of many fans yelling into their faces, didn’t you watch it? I wouldn’t say thousands, probably several score or possibly in the low hundreds. That’s enough to be a danger.
Hey guys, has there been an update on the C19 testing at the Tour today? Is there news expected today or will it be tomorrow before the start? Hopefully everyone will make it! Great show, thank you for the content. Francisco.
Great show, fabulous stage with lots of drama. George was right, people have decided Bernal doesn't have it but here he is still in with a chance after taking Jumbos most powerful attacks, think by the end of week 2 he'll be in yellow 👀
Frenchmen, and especially Southern Frenchmen are not the kind of people who like to follow the rules. They won't wear mask unless they 'll be forced to by law enforcement.
Good stuff once again you guys. Though you should mention a little more the exceptional performance of Nairo Quintana and the revival (still) of Trek Segafredo (not an easy task fro them)!
Loving the move this year. Disappointed Lance and George aren’t in Mallorca this year because of the Rona. Are you rescheduling your camp for next year? Greetings from Mallorca
All my personal stakes are for Bernal. He is just waiting for the third week. Everyone knows that the Alpes is the hardest part of the race and he is clearly being advice by Froome
Hey guys, upload Johan’s podcast to youtube even if just audio . Many audio only uploads can be enjoyed on UA-cam from other podcasts, music, stand up comedy, audio books etc.....
Lance tries to bait George, but he is too much of a gentleman. Appreciate George’s professionalism and knowledge of what is happening. It’s a huge compliment when Johan tells him that is a good insight.
I would like to see some stats on selective athletes - like HR, cadence, power, speed - why don't they show any of these on TV - Is there a website where I can find this information?
Hey Guys, I have a question about intermediate sprints. What is the point of them when riders in the breakaway take the points and they are not even sprinters? Seems to me a simple answer is to have riders declare before the Tour starts that they want to be in the sprint competition. And no one else can take sprint points. We already all knew who is "in the green jersey competition" anyway. Just formalize it. (Kind of how like in some running races elites need to declare they are running the elite race.) This way if there is a big breakaway group with no sprinters in it, the intermediate sprint is much more important and exciting. There still could be intermediate primes for prize money if they want to make breakaway riders sprint. Also, I totally agree that the polka dot jersey points should only go for big climbs, not for speed bumps. Keep up the good work with the show!
Question, what stage(s) do LA and GH have the best memories of the Tour? For me the 2005 15th stage win Pla d'Adet for GH and LA Mont ventoux with Pantani. Interested to hear their take.
Hi Lance, JB and George....Great Show as always. One think I have to adress...Lance, you are still the youngest winner. This Tour is now in September and so he is a few days older then you as he won his first stage. Pogacar was 21 years and 351 days old and you were 21 years and 297 days old. Sorry for my ad english :).
Lance, when you have to get the cataract surgery get the flexible lenses and not the "always worked before" glass lenses. They don't give you normal vision but they are a hell of a lot better than the glass one where you are far sighted period.
Alps v Pyrenees... wait until the race hits the Col de la Loze on stage 17... a new bike path built on a ski run, several sections over 20% gradient, finishing above 2300m altitude 🚨
Greetings :) amazing show today! Great insights from Johan Bruyneel. This is not a question just a comment on the show today. I don’t understand what Lance has against the polka dot jersey... I mean yes he is right at the moment it is not the best climber who wears the jersey, but Sagan is also not the best sprinter in the peleton sooo.. And by the way at the end of the Tour there would be never a cyclist who wears the polka dot jersey who did not fully deserve it and what is the problem of letting an not so well known rider draw attention to his name because he climbed well in the first panekoeken hills. Dont see a problem there✌️ Great work guys keep up the good content :)
Hey JB could you have Johan elaborate on how he would’ve directed Hirsche during his solo break and what kind of communication directors make with their rider when on a break like that. Also, let Lance know Nusa is pronounced Noosha. Love the show, in since day one.
Is it unwise for Jumbo to take the jersey so far from Paris? Thought they'd wait so they don't have to control the race & protect the jersey for more than half the race now.
What could they have done otherwise, if they didn't put in a high tempo there would have been alot of attacks and when Pojacar attacks u need to respond, don't think it would be wise to give him the yellow because he could keep it!
Lance, how much of winning the Tour can be attributed to talent ? It seems to me that there is a large group of great riders that focusses for years trying to win it, but only a selected few special riders ever achieve that goal....Talent?
What's the best way to get a comment or question to Lance? It appears like people are sending in pictures and other comments they talk about on the show. How?
Hey Guys, from Karim (Pronounced Kareem) in Springfield, Missouri! Great show, I have several questions, but I will start with this one. How are some lower grade Teams chosen for the Tour? I ask because I would love to see Team Novo Nordisk (An all Type 1 Diabetic International Team, every rider is Diabetic) get chosen, primarily to promote Type 1 Diabetes to help find a cure. Our youngest son (15 Yrs old) is Type 1 Diabetic, and although he works hard to not let it effect him and plays for his High School Basketball Team, it is 100% constant monitoring of his blood every hour of every day, and every time he wants to put any food or drink in his mouth he has to check his blood to see if he has to dose for insulin. I have been impressed with Team Novo Nordisk and their Teams ability to race professionally on an International level, only because I know how hard it is to monitor your Blood sugar levels and still be competitive. They also just won the KOM in the Tour De Hongrie! Please let me know your thoughts. BTW, I used to live in Austin '98-'03 and used to see Lance riding around town from time to time during the off season, and did all the Ride for the Roses, and even raced Lance & George at the 2002 Dirty Du! Lance of course killed all of us! :) And of course we would always listen to JB each morning! :) Definitely miss it. Thanks and wishing you all the Best! :) Viva Le Tour :)
Some points 1. Dehydration - Jim Peters in 1954. Great story still used in Medical lectures on the subject. 17mins ahead in a Marathon entering the stadium only having to run 500 metres around the track to win. Never made it and never raced again. Couldn't remember what happened when he came round from a coma 24 hours laters is my recollection so the nurses had to tell him he won to aid his recovery!...and he only raced at a temperature of 28 degrees, which must be mild by French mid summer standards; www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1062611/5-jim-peters-collapses-at-end-of-the-marathon-in-the-1954-british-empire-games 2. Face masks - huge opportunity missed by the Tour. Was at the stage in London when the Tour visited and for an hour before the race we were showered with sponsors give aways. Why not send cars up the road b4 this year's mountain stages with a few thousand yellow face masks and make it compulsory to wear one, or get off the road side. Not that expensive to do and would show up well on TV? 3. Wildcard suggestion - 'The Move' today was to take 'The Move' to Slovakia?! It's a small world folks, only c12 hours I'd guess to get there...! 4. Much as I'm not sure Lance A needs more records if this guy broke the record for the youngest stage winner yesterday by a few days how is that possible? The tour is 9 weeks late this year so he wins his stage c60 days later than the equiv July stage (in 1990's?). Do the math...? Francis

I can reassure you Lance, you were 54 days younger at your first stage win ;). Because this year the tour started 2 months later than usual!
Henri Cornet was the youngest winner. Not only did he win a stage, he also won the whole tour when he was 19.
Damn, Hirsch was so close..
Hey Guys!
🙂 Karim
@wedu Lance did you have any guilty pleasures during the tour or rest days? Love the show greetings from Dallas Texas. #teamlance
The you tube title says it’s stage 8. It’s Stage 9👌🏻
Pogcar is older than Lance... this TdF is taking place in September.... not July. Come on guys....
You just became Lance's best friend lol.
Aristarchus French
But Lance won 2 months earlier in life so Lance was younger when he won the stage in July.
@@pinarellosq2868 It does matter... the TdF is taking place over a month later that makes Pogcar older...
At the time of their first stage win, LA still the youngest. LA: 21 years, 9 months, 25 days. TP: 21 years, 11 months, 16 days.
Not true. Henri Cornet is still the youngest. After winning a stage he also won the GC when he was 19.

Where can I get the 20% discount for Ventum ??
actually evidence is starting to reveal that the chance of outside transmission is limited...so if riders pop positive, it's probably not the fans. It'll be (maybe??) from between the teams, or people they know, and likely indoors...etc.. /(uv light factors...)
also have heard that the polka dot jersey will keep the virus away.
@@newname2351 LOL
It’s a lot less limited when you shout spitting directly into the face of an athlete when they’re breathing really hard. Effing dickwads.
Do they have evidence of thousands of fans yelling(spitting droplets) close range? Probably not...
81caasi . There’s evidence on the TV footage of many fans yelling into their faces, didn’t you watch it? I wouldn’t say thousands, probably several score or possibly in the low hundreds. That’s enough to be a danger.
Hallo Lance Armstrong have you win the Tour de France?

Hey guys, has there been an update on the C19 testing at the Tour today? Is there news expected today or will it be tomorrow before the start? Hopefully everyone will make it! Great show, thank you for the content. Francisco.
Great show, fabulous stage with lots of drama. George was right, people have decided Bernal doesn't have it but here he is still in with a chance after taking Jumbos most powerful attacks, think by the end of week 2 he'll be in yellow 👀
The caravan should dump thousands of TDF branded face masks on the mountain stages..
They already do that
Frenchmen, and especially Southern Frenchmen are not the kind of people who like to follow the rules. They won't wear mask unless they 'll be forced to by law enforcement.
Aristarchus French you’re the problem
A simple suggestion and the keyboard warrior army come out in full force 🤣
Wanker? That has a whole other meaning in British English.
comin up on the 2 year death of good old Paul Sherwen
Good stuff once again you guys. Though you should mention a little more the exceptional performance of Nairo Quintana and the revival (still) of Trek Segafredo (not an easy task fro them)!
Nairo is a tool..a true Panacook if you ask me..probably the most boring/ uninspiring rider in the peloton. The man is sleep inducing..
Dont let up George. Stick it to Lance. (George Hincapie Fan Club Philippines)
Pogacar is posting his power data on strava, check it out, 418 on last climb for 24 min and 456 for last 9 min
That is awesome!
6.3 w/kg on the last climb, 6.9 for the last 9 minutes of a 4 hour race... Not bad 🙄
JB, can you link Johans podcast in the description of the video? People who can’t find it are missing out man!

J.B. Hager Put this in the description of the video please man!
Great show Lance and Geprge!
Please put the link to Johan's podcast in the show notes. I've looked for it every day and have not found it.

Hey guys, upload Johan’s podcast to youtube even if just audio . Many audio only uploads can be enjoyed on UA-cam from other podcasts, music, stand up comedy, audio books etc.....
Hi guys!! I like your program Lance always funny! Regards from basque country
Hi
What about weather in Alps. Will it have some affect on riders? It could snow allready, the temperatures will be low.
Lance tries to bait George, but he is too much of a gentleman. Appreciate George’s professionalism and knowledge of what is happening. It’s a huge compliment when Johan tells him that is a good insight.
Henri Cornet is the youngest winner; he won in 1904, just short of his 20th birthday.
Great podcast ,thanks
Will the test be the same as in the US or is there different one for the tour?
Lance, when you have to get the cataract surgery get the flexible lenses and not the "always worked before" glass lenses. They don't give you normal vision but they are a hell of a lot better than the glass one where you are far sighted period.
mark Hirschi apparently is a near neighbour of Fabian Cancellara and was inspired by him when growing up. Seems that Fabian is also his mentor.
Alps v Pyrenees... wait until the race hits the Col de la Loze on stage 17... a new bike path built on a ski run, several sections over 20% gradient, finishing above 2300m altitude 🚨
Colombia papa
good stuff but maybe use a few examples - as in images of Hirschi on his bike. That would be even better!
Keep up the great , entertaining work.

Fans should be back from the roads by
50 metres
Stage 10: the weather forecast is not really a problem for now, the wind is coming from the north so it will be a headwind for the most of the race

They’ve already been controlling things.
How?
Quintana 10 seconds back, two weeks to go, 2 TDF 2cnds is this the 3rd time charm ?

Q: Will ketones make you leaner? How to use it in training/racing?
Some points
1. Dehydration - Jim Peters in 1954. Great story still used in Medical lectures on the subject. 17mins ahead in a Marathon entering the stadium only having to run 500 metres around the track to win. Never made it and never raced again. Couldn't remember what happened when he came round from a coma 24 hours laters is my recollection so the nurses had to tell him he won to aid his recovery!...and he only raced at a temperature of 28 degrees, which must be mild by French mid summer standards; www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1062611/5-jim-peters-collapses-at-end-of-the-marathon-in-the-1954-british-empire-games
Francis
Enough propaganda with the masks if you don't mind.
