"So like a pimp I'm pimpin', got a boat to eat shrimp in, nothing wrong with my leg I'm just b-boy limping" One of the greatest hip hop lines of all time. Tell me I'm wrong
Ain't no reason to call it random if it is what it is."It's the one style homie, and that's how it goes". R.I.P. My man!!! I never met Adam, but for the the last 35 year I felt like he was in my head. And thank goodness for that.
RIP MCA. It's the guy you like. With Ricky Powell RIP, one of the best photographers n NYC. His fishhole lense in this vid. The samples are from the movie car wash, afrikaan bambaata, rose royce etc. About 15 songs sampled
MCA is the one with the deepest voice and goatee, Ad-Rock has the higher pitched voice and Mike D is the tallest one. Top 5 in no order... The Sounds of Science, So What'Cha Want, Get it Together with Q-Tip, Paul Revere and Hey Ladies.
Top 5... High Planes Drifter Car thief Root Down Body Movin (album version) The New Style Then... Jimmy James Putting Shame in Your Game The Move Sure Shot Finger Lickin Good Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun Egg Man Just a Test Intergalactic Paul Revere 3 Minute Rule And more...
RAH The Beasties Boys started off as a HARD CORE PUNK BAND... They are composed of Michael "Mike D" Diamond (vocals, drums), Adam "MCA" Yauch (vocals, bass) and Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz (vocals, guitar, programming). ✌
R.I.P to to my home piece MCA, one of the best! Love all the guys in the Beastie Boys for over 30 years! Professor Booty is an underrated classic banger!
Just to add a little flavor to these comment. The members are as follows: Adam "MCA" Yauch (has the goatee in this video), he did a lot of the production sound effects, mixing, and sound engineering. Really between him and Mix Master Mike they were the brains behind the best. He passed away in 2012 from Cancer. Michael "Mike D" Diamond, he was the guy with the big hat and shades on. He was a musician who produced a lot of the drums you hear in their songs. Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz is the guy with the ball cap and very unique voice. He was a punk guitarist and bassist and with MCA he play a lot of the guitar riffs you hear in their songs. All three of them would write lyrics, for themselves and for each other. Just an insanely talented group of lyricists and musicians.
Honestly, MCA was my favorite...but Mike D and AD-Rock are both so fuckin good too. The best thing about them is how important all three of them were to one another. They worked better together than any other duo or trio I have ever seen.
Ad rock - Adam Horowitz ( nasal one ) MCA - Adam Yount (sp) badass voice ) Mike D. - ( i don't know the last name) smooth voice the VW chain. Fun fact - they are the ones who gave Rick Rubin, a young 19 yr old's demo " tape " and had him listen to it. Kids name James Todd, More commonly known as LL Cool J.
Enjoy your flo to them😘 saw them in the late 80s several times 2 random facts..they started as a punk band & they organized the Tibetan Freedom Concert for several years ...activist for Tibetan independence My top 5 fav r Bodhisattva Vow Rhymin and stealin Sure shot Nonstop Disco powerpack Hey Ladies
I always favored Mike D. Dude with the funky outfit and pleather pants. He plays the drums. I play the drums. I like his delivery. Plus he’s always down to be goofy.
I generally go for Adrock as my favourite but hell it's close with all of them. And I feel like Mike D got better with each album they released also so he was definitely running Adrock close for me. And man he really can play those drums can't he? I love the sound of the live drums on Check Your Head. So tight.
Fact about the beastie boys. I got a couple. When they were a punk band they had a drummer named Kate Schellenbach, she quit the band to do other things, and when the beastie boys started their label Grand Royal, they signed Kate's band Luscious Jackson. another fact Ad Rock " Adam Horovitch" gave Rick Rubin LL Coll J's demo and made him sign him to Def Jam. Fact 3 the Beastie Boys were given the opening slot on Maddona's Like a Virgin world tour due to the strength of a 12 inch single they released, " no album just a single". Another one MCA put together the Tibetan freedom concerts to help Tibetan monks they were the 1st rap act to go number 1 on the billboard charts. They were the 1st to have a platinum record.
IT's is so funny that he doesn't know their names. They say them almost every bar; and it's a good thing. I've been messing with the Beastie's since 1986. This is the soundtrack to my life.

The deeper, raspy voice is MCA R.I.P. and he is a bit of my favorite not just for vocal tone but his flows are sick. Check 3mc's & 1dj if you haven't already, piped in live as their performance for the Mtv music awards, 1take, 1record, no neat machine. %100 Hip Hop from concentrate, enjoy.
You got me remembering Gangstarr's "You Know My Steez" Top tracks: There's too many! I remember when I first heard "Paul Revere" when I was in the 7th grade. Then it was "Brass Monkey". Then the rest of that first album, License To Ill, was all amazing. Run DMC's album, Raising Hell, was right there too. Those two albums defined middle school for me. Before that, the only little bits of early rap I could find were on Seattle's 1250 AM radio show, KFOX - Fresh Tracks (Sunday nights at 9 O'clock with DJ Nasty Nes and Sir Mix-Alot Ray). I had a little transistor radio I put under my pillow so my parents wouldn't know I was staying up late to listen. I heard Egyptian Lover, UTFO, Mantronix, all the latest stuff that was only getting played in New York... 😄 And everybody had to have a big piece of cardboard to breakdance on. Ooh-wee! Those were the days! Can you imagine being among the first people in your town to hear an entirely new kind of music? Those were humble beginnings but hip-hop kept growing and getting better... but then at some point everybody started putting out trash. Real Hip-Hop is about turning a party out, impressing the ladies with your skill and steez, and telling true stories about what's happening in parts of the world not everyone sees. If you're making your way in the industry, please do what you can to represent real hip-hop. Best wishes to you! Apologies for going on so long
You should react to the entire album. It's an amazing experience. They also play their own instruments on future albums as well and play all kind of styles. MCA was an incredible bass player. SOMETHINGS GOT TO GIVE music video will melt your brain. Keep rocking from LA
Happy 420, always appreciate your reacts. Lived in Brooklyn for 20+ yrs now, but lived in LA for 10+ yrs before that and had the good fortune to meet these guys when they were mixing Check Your Head (was already a huge fan and they were lovely). Lot's of folks will say that MCA is their fav, and i think that's who you asked who it was (respect, and RiP), but I had to pick a fav, I'm partial to Ad Rock just cause I relate most to his vibe. Steez. Top jams to check out: Pass the Mic, Gratitude, Body Movin', Sure Shot, Root Down, Professor Booty, So What'cha Want, and if you want to dig into how sick their instrumentals can get, check out In 3's.
Knew about beastie boys since licensed to ill mostly cause of fight for your right but really got into em during check your head era and then delved back into the earlier stuff and then got to see em on the lollapalooza 94 tour when ill communication was out. Man what a wonderful memory. And my favorite without a doubt..AD ROCK
Ohh..and top 5? That's hard but I'll at least name 5 that I love. Not necessarily in order... Root down, sure shot,so whatcha want, looking down the barrel of a gun, gratitude. I wanna keep going. Top 5 is too small of a list..but at this very moment those top 5 is what's coming to me
Shout out delmarva. Been chilling to beastie boys since the '80s. Top 5 u haven't already done: finger lickin' good, looking down the barrel of a gun, that's it that's all, skills to pay the bills & pass the mic... that's just off the top of my head. Oh & root down
You should react to their 2004 performance on the Letterman Show of "Ch-Check It Out". It's the best entrance of a musical guest on a T.V. show EVER!!!
I was at a Metallica concert. Volbeat opened to Avenged 7 Fold to the head liners Metallica! A7X had to cancel their set because a member was having a baby. So Metallica filled their set with Mix Master Mike, the Beastie Boys DJ! He was on stage doing his thing for A7X's set and some idiot in the crowd next to me starts bitching about the DJ but no band! I turned to him and smiled "you know who that is?" "That's Mix Master Mike from the beastie boys! You better show some respect!" His whole demeanor changed! Mike was cutting it up sharp! That's the closest I got to seeing the Beastie Boys!! A7X threw a rain check show that year with other bands!
MCA was kind of the heart and vision of the group (especially after this point, as he grew wiser and more compassionate, and grew more artistically, especially with the videos), Ad Rock was probably most of the raw skill and energy (easily the hypest, and had some of the sharpest bars, also got really good at the beat making over the years, having learned a lot from the Dust Brothers on this album), and Mike D was the goofball who'd just say random things for the fun of it. Good combination.
EZ Mike and King Gizmo are the Dust Brothers. They produced this album, "Paul's Boutique", and taught the Beastie Boys to take the beat craft to the next level in the future.
Another great reaction! I always enjoy watching your videos. The one you were asking about is MCA (R.I.P). My top 5 songs: High Planes Drifter Paul Revere Car Thief Looking down the barrel of a gun Brass Monkey
AD Rock does it for me (Adam Horowitz) but they all three are magic together and Mix Master Mike (their DJ) is severely underrated. Check out their video for 3 mcs and 1 dj.

Here's one random fact for you...Beastie Boy Ad-Rock made the beat for L.L. Cool J's first single, I Need A Beat released in 1984.
And that beat played backwards and tweaked is the beat for Paul Revere
Ain't no reason to call it random if it is what it is."It's the one style homie, and that's how it goes".
