“Like Sam the Butcher bringing Alice the meat”. Is a reference to the Brady Bunch where the local butcher “Sam” dated “Alice”the maid. So Sam was bringing Alice the “Meat” 🍖 in more ways then one. The Beastie Boys are Hip Hop’s version of a 3 man weave.
Then they added like Fred Flintstone driving around in bald feet, an homage of course to early cartoons. Early sitcom to early cartoons.. those 2 verses back to back might be like top 5 ever from the beasties!
"Sam the butcher bringing Alice the meat" is a reference to The Brady Bunch. Alice was the maid and she had a boyfriend who was a butcher and he'd stop by the show from time to time and deliver meat.
'I'm Mike D and I'm back from the dead' After Licensed to Ill became the first rap record to hit number one, the Boys didn't rush out a follow-up, as expected, but waited three years, moving to LA and evolving their sound. But after a couple years off the grid, rumors swirled that Mike had died. That's why his first bar on Paul's Boutique proclaims that he's back from the dead.
Yeah, loved that a key part of their sound was backing-fill, occasional simultaneous lyrics, switching to another off during mid-line, and so on. In an interview after MCA had passed away and the other two were showing their recording studio with its three booths side by side with just divider walls between them the interviewer asked them if they recorded separately or together or mix… …and poignantly they answered they recorded together because they couldn’t see doing it any other way. The loss of Yauch was just heavy in the air for a moment.
Paul's Boutique is a masterpiece that will never be recreated. It would cost millions now to get the rights to all the samples in this album. Check out "Pass the Mic" from the Ill Communication album. IMO one of the smoothest beats the B Boys ever produced.
Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique is the greatest album of all time, right after a smooth intro track it rolls right into this BANGER and then the album never stops. Incredible, you should do a reaction to each track!
If I recall correctly, this song alone samples eleven different songs. That's the genius of the Dust Brothers' production on Paul's Boutique. A few of the tracks sampled on this one are from the Car Wash soundtrack.
Correct on the finishing each other's lines isnt new....NOW, but THEY ( The Beastie Boys) not only INVENTED IT but also PERFECTED IT. BTW...the fact that they played and produced all of their beats AFTER Licenced to ILL is WHY they cant be sampled, or copied again. COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT GENIUS' in more ways than 1
Run D.M.C. certainly popularized it but I’m not sure they were the first as the early days of rap started in the 70’s and DMC was more early 80’s. DMC certainly before the Beastie Boys tho!
We have about the same ridiculous comedic looks at funny as f*ck to non bitchy about errything..lol.. my first cds were Wu-Tang double cd and Three Six mafia when in 8th grade.. lol.. my southwest Va Cracker Jack ass… but first concert was Ludacris in 11th grade at Radford University.. then went to college there.. saw Chappelle right after the second season ended In the same Basketball arena.. it’s been an incredible life times ten of that shit..lol

If I recall correctly, this song alone samples eleven different songs. That's the genius of the Dust Brothers' production on Paul's Boutique. A few of the tracks sampled on this one are from the Car Wash soundtrack.
That grocery store was fresh, just like the Beastie Boys.
“Got more rhymes than Jamaicas got mangos.” One of the greatest of many b-boys lines ever.
Alice was the maid for the Brady Bunch, Sam the butcher was an occasionally recurring character.

Beastie Boys means teamwork
It was groundbreaking 32 years ago.
We used to bend the index finger at the knuckle, press the knuckle to a nostril, hiding the bent finger and it looks like it is way deep up there. ☝👃

B-Boys with a nasty little innuendo about the nice lady from The Brady Bunch.

Beastie Boys were the OG white rappers, not Eminem. Change my mind.
Eminem couldn't carry their gold records
PAULS BOTIQUE IS ONE OF THE BEST ALBUMS EVER
If you like the way they trade lines and words back and forth, check out their song "The Move." The execution is flawless!
You're my guy Doc. Keep it going
They're the ones that started that technique of handing off lines to one another. This is 1989, man.
Really RUN - D.M.C. started it, and they perfected it
Run D.M.C. certainly popularized it but I’m not sure they were the first as the early days of rap started in the 70’s and DMC was more early 80’s. DMC certainly before the Beastie Boys tho!
This song was made almost 40 years ago so it was new to us.
