Great amp and demo. I learned to love this amp through the years. I had 4 of them. On it's own it can sound sometimes harsh but with some help it's a great amp. I have read somewhere that it was James Brown's favorite!
These amps are fantastic, I used to have an Ultra 120, then the Ultra Plus, and a JSX, they really all sound pretty fantastic, never tried the XXX/3120, looks like I'm going to have to
Rented one for a few weekend rehearsals in 2004 & fell in love with it but couldn't afford it at the time. I don't play live anymore so it's not something I'd want now.
You just had to say I need both…after I got the JSX. 🤦🏻♂️…so are the controls very similar? I feel like I need no EQ pedal with mine. And I always use it in the loop. The EQ on the channels seems super active
One note on the channels. The JSX Ultra channel is the Crunch channel from the XXX. The Crunch on the JSX is it's own thing as is the Ultra channel on the XXX. The Ultra Channel on the XXX was almost too much gain and compression for me when I owned that amp and I love high gain. Therefore when I got the JSX I was right at home on it's Ultra channel plus the added benefit of the Fat switch, the gate and the dialed resonance control which is a three position switch on the XXX. Both great amps but to me the JSX was a refined version of the XXX with some really great added features. It would have been interesting to see how much more popular the XXX would have been since that was supposed to be George Lynch's signature amp had the endorsement deal not fallen through. Regardless both fantastic amps along with the OG 5150 / 5150II. Peavey was delivering the goods for a bit no doubt.
@@TheTN24ah, didn't know that! Joe also designed his Marshall JVM signature amp in a similar manner. A lot of players liked that one as well. The clean channel on Joe's JVM is great and very pedal friendly.
Cool demo!!
I had one of these when they came out in 2002 or so. That's *exactly* how I remember it sounding. Under-appreciated amp.
I have a 3120 which is the same amp in a... more tasteful headshell. It is my favourite Peavey by far. Great video, buddy
Oh Hi John. Glad to see you here haha
Great demo, can’t wait to get my hands on one. The amp really takes no prisoners.
The amp sounds crushing for sure but your playing makes it even better! Great job!
holy smokes that sounds good. I wish they would come out with a XXXmh soon
I picked one up about 6 months ago for $400, love it!
Do you know what the damper switch does in back?
@@randwillis3405 It acts as a 3-way resonance switch (and presence if I'm not wrong) instead of having a knob that goes from 0 to 10.

Got one today, killer amp!
It sounds great and objectifies women. Greatest amp ever.
That's why it's my favorite amp 🤘🏼
Lol

The Noise Gate feature on the JSX is awesome.

@@bougear Haha malade! Bien hâte de voir la vidéo!! :)
Great review, sounds awesome too. In your ears, where does it stand out or less compared to your other amps? Where would you likely use it vs others?
To be honest, I didnt like it very much haha.. a little too brute for me !
Make me think about a recto-take from Peavey.
It's actually voiced as a Mark competitor, but marketed towards the recto crowd
