BouGear - Thermite Amplifiers Proteus I± α - Teaser
Hey UA-cam!!
Here is a little teaser of a gear-capsule which will be released in 2024. I had the honor and privilege of testing the Thermite Amplifiers Proteus I± α at the BouGear's bunker! This amp literally knocked me to the ground with its low frequency response, as well as the tighness that comes out of it. The built-in boost is completely magical!
I particularly like the attention paid to the aesthetics of the product. The flame symbol for the boost, the jacks and the colored switches... in short, hats off to Alain Benoit! A real beast that you created.
I can't wait to edit the full capsule.

BouGear - Orange TH100
Переглядів 3392 місяці тому
Today on BouGear, Plem takes a little British tour, testing the Orange TH100. Typical Orange sound. It's very loud and very heavy. I was surprised by the weight when carrying it. Thanks to GupTech for the loan of this devilish fruit. 100W, 4x EL34 in the poweramp, 4x 12AX7 in the preamp, with a fx loop driven by an AT7... just by reading the description of the specs, you know right away that we...
BouGear - Boost & OD contest - 10 boosts vs 4 riffs (Ibanez, Maxon, KHDK, KSR, Xotic, GupTech)

And yes, yes... Here's BouGear once again in Gear-filmmaker mode with a rather long video :P! By the way, many videos like this one are created with click&hear mode in mind. As the same riffs are repeated over and over again via the multiple compared elements, it's possible to navigate quickly by clicking on the timeline, and thus listen to the desired segments. I've also added timecodes to fac...
BouGear - Peavey Thermite VTM60

Today on BouGear, Plem once again steps out of his tone-comfort by testing a Marshall-type circuit = Ze Peavey VTM60... but not just any circuit, a VTM60 that has passed through the hands of New Brunswick-based mister Alain of Thermite Amplifiers. In a nutshell, it's a Marshall circuit by Jose Alain-rredondo -Thermito😉 ! A very Rock amp. The look is very Rock. The gain is very Rock and slamming...
BouGear - 10 minutes with the Catalinbread Montavillian Echo - Playthrough
Переглядів 1823 місяці тому
Today on BouGear, an intimate 10-minute face to face with the Catalinbread's dark Montavillian blue Echo! An Echo circuit with impressive headroom, especially when powered from 18vdc. This comes in very handy when used after a high output preamp. Most analog pedals of this type end up saturating with the incoming signal. The Montavillian can take it! You have to be very gentle on the cut knob, ...
BouGear - Epiphone Valve Jr with Plexi SE PCB High Gain Cascaded preamp (modded)

Today under BouGear, Plem is stepping out of his comfort zone and venturing into a Marshall-style circuit. Small in size, but enormous in terms of TONE, this amp with a Marshall-style circuit greatly surprised me. An old gear-friend Marc-André lent me this little obscure box a few weeks ago. I rocked with it for a few hours and I said to myself that it deserved a little BouGear video. So, here ...
BouGear - 20 minutes with the Strymon BlueSky V2 - Playthrough

Today on BouGear, an intimate 20-minute face to face with Strymon's BlueSky. With its more-than-ambient, even intoxicating tones, coupled with its majestically blue color, this Strymon just made me think too much when I played it 😉! This one certainly transports us to a bluish planet where all our dreams can come true. With its high ambient performance, multiple modulation modes and stages, and...

Today under BouGear, I am exploring the Peavey Triple X. I thank Eric the rocker for lending me his amp so that I can carry out this Gear-dissection. Delivering an earth-quaking 120 Watts of pure tube power Three 12AX7 preamp tubes Four 6L6GC power amp tubes driven by a 12AX7 Tone contour is accomplished through passive controls for Bass, Mid, and Treble on the Clean channel, while the Ultra an...
BouGear - Mesa Boogie Mark IV - Black Shadow / Black Label - 4 speakers contest
Переглядів 1,8 тис.9 місяців тому
This capsule was intended to be a speaker test relating to the use of the Mesa Boogie Mark IV equipped with a 1x12 OpenBack combo. Having had a little more time and courage, I probably should have carried out the same test, but this time in a 4x12 Closed Back configuration, but hey… maybe next time 😉! Roughly speaking, here is my subjective opinion: The MS-12 sounded really vintage in my setup....
BouGear - Empress Nebulus
Переглядів 35911 місяців тому
Today, under BouGear, Plem visits the fabulous Canadian company Empress via their mysterious Nebulus! I apologize in advance. I must admit that I got carried away and that I got lost in the presets during the tests. Everything could have been a little more structured. The Nebulus is clearly destabilizing! The whole thing results in a "beautiful" Gear-short-film once again haha! A fairly impress...
BouGear - Myasnikov SuperLead - Soldano Preamp Circuit + VHT 2150
Переглядів 1,5 тис.Рік тому
Today, under BouGear, Plem revisit his old loves, ze Soldano era via the Myasnikov SuperLead. This preamp is designed by Myasnikov and based on the Soldano SLO 100 lead channel. I would call it a very powerful angry trebly-SLOsnikov. The amount of gain is simply ridiculous, as well as the amount of volume possible at the output... as well as the great responsiveness of the frequency knobs. In s...
BouGear - MXR M148 Micro Chorus
Переглядів 553Рік тому
Gear confession under BouGear, Plem loves chorus. This is probably the effect he has purchased the most in his life, regardless of the format (pedal, rackmount, half-rackmount, integrated into an ADA MP-1 style preamp, integrated into a JazzChorus JC120 style amp, etc.). He particularly likes this layer of modulation during clean guitar passages. He loves it a lot less on distorted sounds, but ...
BouGear - Peavey Delta Blues 115

Today on BouGear, Plem explores Peavey's indomitable Delta Blues in its version with a 15" Blue Marvel speaker. A big thank you to Philippe for lending me his amp for a few days, and a second big thank you to Anne for transporting the beast for testing! The video was made possible largely thanks to these two people 😉 ! The 15-inch will continue to confound me. This one opens the door to a whole...
BouGear - TC 1140 Parametric EQ (feat. Mesa Boogie Mark IV - Version A)
Переглядів 1 тис.Рік тому
Today on BouGear, thanks to Sir Ganas, Plem had the opportunity to venture into the TC world and to experiment their rackmount parametric EQ model: Ze TC 1140. From the very first moments, I immediately felt that I had an incredibly powerful tool at hand. I had fun testing it with my Mesa Boogie Mark IV - Version A. I plugged the TC 1140 into the Mark IV's effects loop, of course disabling the ...
BouGear - MXR M134 Chorus - Playthrough
Переглядів 543Рік тому
Today under BouGear, Plem explores MXR's M134 chorus. I have always had great respect for this chorus which often goes unnoticed. Clearly, my favorite chorus at MXR and in my TOP 5 chorus of all brands. The Bass and Treble controls rarely present on a chorus are very interesting. I've used it across multiple configurations over the years without ever being disappointed. As mentioned in the vide...

@@bougear YEAH!!!
Would be keen to see more such speaker comparos!
Black backs are sweeter just saying
the best of them is the MS12 imo but doesnt match that much with mark 4 but play a recto an engl or a mark III with it ...
@@YsAbTones I just bought one. I will give it another chance under my Mark III. Rock On !!
very usefull comparison thx !
UK speaker has better lows at the expense of highs. Chinese speaker has better highs at the expense of lows. It's like the frequency range just moves higher going from the UK to the Chinese. I prefer Creambacks to both of these, personally.
Best demo of these speakers and amp on UA-cam.
Yes.
So how about the rear settings? Pentode or Triode? Class A or Simulclass? Harmonics or Mid Gain? Everyone seems to ignore this when sharing their settings on these types of demos. Eminence sounds like pure ass on anything but the cleanest setting. I can see why the EVM was considered the upgrade back in the day.
Harmonic and pentode for sure. And I would guess Class A because its my preferred mode, but Im not 100% sure about it. I will check on my cubase project if I took note on it. Thanks and rock On !
@@bougear Right on, Class A is my preferred too. This was still a very helpful video, I'm really glad I stumbled across it. I'm considering buying a C90 Thiele cab and swapping the speakers (EVM-12L currently in my combo). The C90 seems to add really nice high-mids articulation where the balance of the EVM fills out the sound and makes it sound three dimensional when combined, if I'm hearing things right. Thanks for making this it's great!
Booger?
turn it up tp 3!!
Aesthetic AF 🔥 (and nice tones!)
LOVING that tone
Superb work Matt!
I have a Mesa branded EVM 12 inch speaker. Wondering if I can swap it into my MESA MK IV combo with out any issues. Currently the previous owner had installed a Celestion Century 8 ohm speaker, This Celestion Century is the older one, and he said he did the swap to make the combo lighter . Thanks for the video comparison JL
Played this amp many times. One of my favorites
Rock On ! Riff machine !!
I loved every second of this! Such sick tones and playing
The king of tone
These VTM’s have a storied history. Interesting amps. They were born out of a need to compete with Marshall at the time. Peavey built the Butcher, but the circuit was too close to a Marshall JCM so they legally had to stop making them. Undeterred to compete, Peavey modded the circuit further and added dip switches to add enough complexity to be considered distinct, and the VTM 60 and VTM 120 was born. Great amps.
Great sound, great contest!
Great riffs and great editing all together. A lot of work you've put in the video for sure. Great job!
Thanks! I must admit that this capsule has been lying on my desk for 2 years. I don't find it particularly HOT, but I told myself that I would still make the effort to archive it on youtube. We can still hear the small differences of each circuit, and this allows us to get an idea of the products, or at least the comparisons presented. Thank you very much for your words and Rock ON!!
Great sound, great riffs, great contest !
The benchmark in tone chasing I hear the differences, and appreciate the effort. Fine work!
Nice!
My favorite Peavy amp ever. I had a VTM120 for a while. Definitely wish I had it back. Great amp. Yours sounds killer. If you know the right combo of dip switches it’s like a Jose modded Marshall.
These amps are fantastic, I used to have an Ultra 120, then the Ultra Plus, and a JSX, they really all sound pretty fantastic, never tried the XXX/3120, looks like I'm going to have to
Got one today, killer amp!
🤘🤘🤘
Cool demo!!
@@bougear Haha malade! Bien hâte de voir la vidéo!! :)
This is the best demo of the Micro Chorus on UA-cam.⭐️ Thanks so much!
Thanks a lot :) !!!! This is a great little yellow pedal!
definitely a mid point where you want that Soldano sound but doesn't have the money for it but also doesn't want to risk with Jet City.
Great demo - cheers
I have a 3120 and would luv to trade for a JSX, but I've been told both amps are somewhat similar.
I actually have one 3120 on the bench test. I will make a video on it. Great amp!
@@bougear looking forward to that
Soo, what is the 1st switch controlling?? Says volume! How?? 2nd switch is bright after the 1st gain stage (off/1n/4.7n) 3rd switch is bright after the 2nd gain stage (off/1n/4.7n) 4th switch appears to be treble cap and either 250p or 470p It's that first one I'm not sure what it is adjusting (whatever it is, it's significant enough to hear, but mild)
Yes, sorry. I thought afterwards that I should have included the switches and their function more. The 4th switch, if I remember, is more like 250p vs 170p. The first switch is an input gain switch (boost vs standard).
@@bougear input gain, like...68k to 33k or 10 to the grid of V1a, or??!?? Could you explain a little more on how that worked? No diode clipping involved??
@@Amp_Expert It's kind of a boost just after the first gain knob. Write me on facebook and I will send you more information (picture). Thanks for your time and rock on :) !

Soldano amps to me sound like a Marshall mixed with a nasty BOSS distortion in the mids/upper mids
Eminence sounds terrible in comparison in this video, as if listening to it though a rotary landline phone whereas Celestion sounds alive and present, so to say. I wonder how much this actually reflects on the speakers and how much it's just this video
Eminence in this video makes me think of what my old Unitra radio and columns that my aunt gave me that she had it since way back under Soviet occupation and I eventually broke the bearings they started to rattle. The Eminence here is presumably all in perfect condition yet it has this sandy quality to it that makes me think of that old communist hifi's rattle once the speakers gave in lol
I have a Mark III combo with the EVM12L, and I think it's perfect. I also have a Mark IVB widebody combo that came with a C90, and I liked it for clean and crunch and hated it for lead. I swapped it out for a G12K-100 and prefer it. I would have put in an EVM12L, but because it's a widebody, it doesn't fit properly. I also have a Mark V head, and at that time, the only cabinets you could buy were either C90 or V30. I bought two 1x12 with C90, one open back, one closed back, and a 2x12 closed back with V30s. I like it better through the 2x12, but I use that cab for my rectifier, so the Mark V sits on top of the two 1x12 cabs. I also have a JP2C and bought two thiele 1x12 cabs with the EVM12L, and I think they sound great also. I've played the Mark V through them as well, and I think it sounds better through them. To me, there's something slightly shrill and nasally about the C90. I think since Mark amps are quite bright and generally sound better when you can turn the presence up a little bit, they benefit from a speaker that's a little dark sounding. Even the K100 I have in my Mark IV isn't completely satisfying to me, but options are limited due to the cabinet dimensions. I wish I had bought a head instead of the combo, but it was for a great price used, and it's the hardwood/wicker combo in mint condition. I couldn't pass it up.
I picked one up about 6 months ago for $400, love it!
Do you know what the damper switch does in back?
@@randwillis3405 It acts as a 3-way resonance switch (and presence if I'm not wrong) instead of having a knob that goes from 0 to 10.
Great sound, man!
Amazing sounding amp. Can anyone recommend similar amps to this?
need to play something.....musical, they all sound thin with no bottom at all.
whats the build lead time on one of these
Wow amazing video and excellent detail which is useful! Thank you. Did you try the eq in front of the amp?
Nop, sorry. Only in the loop for this video. It was a little tricky to tweak in the front of the amp, but it can surely be used that way. Rock On !!
Thanks for the reply I ran. Mine through the front of amp and your right it’s a bit of tweaking I overloaded once and ended up running my FatRat pedal first and the TC 1140!man it came alive . It’s guys like you that took the time show this nice gear to what potential it has and I wanted to thank you my friend
@@hayabusa1300100 thanks a lot! I really appreciate it. Rock On!! This is surely a nice powerful eq tool from TC!!!
Question our you running this in front of your amp or in the fX loop
In the FXloop.
Man it sounds killer i just bought one it’s on the way . I have a few TC pieces already I’ve been wanting this one particular for a bit and finally pulled the trigger on one last night. I have already TC Integrated Preamp ,Booster +Linr Driver Distortion,,Sustain + Parameteric EQ I’ve been running through the front and FX loop on a JCM 800 and the Plexi there massive and a killer piece of equipment to have for sure thanks for sharing
Have you tried running a looper like a Keeley ( Apartment) into it so you can turn on and off ? I was just wondering if you could I know the looper if for a lot of applications especially pedals that lack true bypass just wondering
I got my 1140 in today I noticed that Input and output went into overload so I assume it has to Match up to amps output so I tuned it like your settings .. is there anything else I should know or what out for ? I thought I would ask being that own one thanks brother
@@hayabusa1300100 Yes, you must best careful and balance well the input with the signal coming out your preamp or amp fx loop send. I sold the unit few months after the video. I know that I always run a buffer after my preamp to help mismatch impedance problem. Don't know if it help. Rock ON ! Gear ON !
For channel 3, the black label hands down. The MC90 is a close second. Maybe blend the two in a 412? On the second channel, the black label and eminence. On the clean either evm12L or black label. This is a great comparison video. Straight to the point
Celestion's mc90 is the best natural tone of all.I dont like the eminence for this setup sounds very boxy with unpleasant highs Black label is great too
Great demo. I thought the Black Label was far too dark and muddy. That particular Eminence wasn't much better. The Black Shadow and 12L sounded best to my ears.
this is one of the best guitar tones i’ve ever heard. holy.
Thanks!!! I really appreciate it! Rock On ! Gear On !!!
Bro, I’d love to hear a demo in a closed back cab. I have 3 of those ms-12 speakers, looking for a 4th if you know of one….let me know.
Yes, I regret not doing the same capsule in Closed Cab... I sell the 2 of the speaker before I realize that It would have been cool.. maybe one day if someone lend me his speakers. Thanks for watching! Rock On !!!!!
