How to Clean a DPF here! - • How to clean a DPF
Here we have a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) and DOC (Diesel Oxidizing Catalyst) out of a late model Freightliner Cascadia with a Cummins ISX 15 Engine. This DPF was air blasted/cleaned barely a month before and was already having reoccurring issues (Regening too frequently, high soot loading, etc.) The DPF and DOC are in the process of being steam cleaned to remove the Ash that air blasting can not. The video begins after the first round of cleaning is complete and yet still you can see a lot of Ash and soot being pushed out with the water and compressed air. - Авто та транспорт
You have to be careful and keep the high pressure at a distance when using a pressure washer. You can errode the face of the DOC. And wash from both sides. I submerged the catalyst in degreaser and water overnight and then wash it. Works great and it's messy.
so how do you dry I'm quite sure it needs to be dried out what do you do for that
so how do you dry I'm quite sure it needs to be dried out what do you do for that
You dry it in the exhast
Do u wash the DOC as well?
Audi a5.27tdi dpf gereinigt und er will ständig alle 70km regenerieren! Was kann das sein? Kein Fehler Eintrag nix er will und will nach 70km regenerieren Deferenzdrucksensor ist neu dpf gereinigt! WÄRE SUPER WEN DU EIN TIPP HAST
What psi tip should I use on my pressure washer?
see the junks coming out this is going to save me thousands spray to the clean side so junk comes out
Yup!
I heard 80psi of air for cleaning doc but we always send our the dpf to get baked or whatever .
Baking won’t work
Hey does water damage the filter? like dissolve it ? or in anyway?
Nope just don’t get too close
Dpf cleaning just in oven at 400 degree C and then with air.hot.pressure .
How long do you have to wait till you put it back on after spraying it with water
Hey There, have you had the filters flow tested after being water cleaned vs air vs baked? If so how big of a difference? I do a lot of work on Cummins dpf/scr and usually sub out the cleaning since we don't have the equipment. This water option would save me a lot of time and my fleet customers a lot of money.
+The Jonny B Show the only real flow testing available with Detroit filters is that they go back into trucks and work fine for hundreds of thousands of miles until their next cleaning without an issue. The same goes for Cummins except they will pass the on board "DPF Restriction Test". Of course we tend to see many more problems with Cummins due to a lot more upstream problems. (Fuel Dosers, Burning a ton of oil, EGR, Turbos and of course 10x more failed EGR coolers)
I do it on my isx 15 every 200 thousand miles and have had zero problems.
Great video! My mechanic pressure washed my dpf and I'm having issues with my dpf light flashing. I had other mechanics say I may need my whole dpf system replaced. Do you think I can bake them to solve the problem?
@@dubb8180
Did you regen after the wash?
We has our dpf filter baked, and all sensors etc. Our truck is still saying soot high and pressures bad. They have changed everything. Can it pass tests, but still need to be replaced. Afraid to get a brand new one and it still causing issues. Getting stressed. This is a cummins. Kwt680 2016.
Have you experienced this issue even after baking truck is still throwing codes etc.
tina did you have kenworth clear the sooth levels off the computer memory
Need to pressure wash it. Baking doesn’t work they want you to buy a new filter
Cancer juice!
Hi, I have Volvo D13 engine 2010 year with DPF filter, Can I wash? Thx!
Can this be done to zny dpf filter and DOC also ?
Got maXforce dt 466. ??
Little smaller
In theory, it will work. But I seem to remember the MaxxForce filters having an odd shape that might make it tough to spray.
ey! hi dude, Do I need to use any soap or chemical to clean the filter?, thanks
No never just water. Hot water always better
I own a 13 Peterbilt 587 and had my filter cleaned a few months ago “baked”. I’m seriously thinking of doing this process because it costs me over $800 at a local shop. Cummins ISX 15 400
Baking them doesn’t work anyway or if it does it’s barely. Spray with solution or not. Than pressure wash
If cleaning a dpf filter is just water and air, why do some places charge so much for the service? Where and why does baking it play a role?
If I'm able to get my own dpf filter off, would this help to rectify some of my regen issues?
Baking it doesn’t work usually and when it does just barely.
Because all of the dealers got talked into buying expensive baking machines would be my guess lol
@@davidb1089 incorrect. Baking is the best possible method. Eight hours at 1250°. It turns all that soot to ash. Add high-pressure air afterwards, blow it out. Test it, pin drop it, done. No messiness.
@@Travisavall all it is is a pottery kiln..
Any solution used on the unit ?
What is the psi of the pressure washer and tip degree being used?
Did you find out
eddie V ... I ended up deleting my EGR and exhaust system. Has been absolutely amazing sense I did it nearly 2 years ago. Everything looks factory and exhaust is clean. I have gained nearly 2 miles extra per gallon and I save nearly $2,500.00 a year if not a little more on def fuel expenses, because I don’t purchase it anymore.
@@garrimic3 that’s nice just make sure you don’t get caught could be around $20,000 in the end
@@davidb1089 ... yes it could be expensive..... yet with the costs to keep the system out ways the (possibility)
Great video
NEVER, EVER pressure wash dpf filter. 🤦♂️
It actually works and gives wayyy better mpg ...I'm sure whatever method you doing isn't better than this unless you delete the system then it doesn't count
Hello
I have 08 Freightliner with Cummins isb6.7
Can I wash ?do this procedure along cleaning the catalyst as well on this truck ?
Thx
Yes that shouldn't be a problem
Too bad this isn't how you're supposed to clean them. You're supposed to submerge them in a special type of chemical and then BAKE THEM at nearly 1200 F
I'm aware of what most heavy duty manufacturers want you to do when it's time for a cleaning and what you're "supposed" to do. Most don't want them cleaned at all. They want you to replace them with their reman filters. They certainly don't want them soaked in any chemicals. Since they operate at 1200 degrees on a daily basis, simply baking them doesn't do anything for cleaning. Baking is just a step taken before cleaning if the filter has been contaminated or if a parked Regen couldn't be performed before hand. The filters are then air blasted afterwards because they cannot remove soot... And they're not very good at removing Ash either.
Go ahead and get them baked. Had mine baked and a few months later I need them baked again. $1,200 every time. Idle time is actually none existent on my truck except for sitting in traffic jams. Will definitely give this a shot. Even if I go buy a decent pressure washer I still come out better and I get a pressure washer. The other option is more money and a possible second bill in a few months.
1,200 dam some one is robbing u blind
Dro NITRO .... this included labor costs....which I haven’t been back.. nearly $200 per book hour....
I just took def filter out today for a customer.. he is going to power wash it with dawn.. i shit you not...
First time ive ever took em off .. isx cascadia.. took 30 min and it was out..
Its not hard to do but at the same time im charging the man 600
How long so you have to wait for the filter to dry up before you install it and run the engine? Ty
I've seen them left as long as overnight with a fan on them but I've also seen them blown out with compressed air and then immediately reinstalled. Letting them run on high idle for 10 to 20 minutes will evaporate the leftover water out of them. If possible, you can also temporarily install the filter back on the truck with the outlet side open. Running it this way will allow it to dry out without putting the excess water through the SCR. But that's never proven to be a problem anyway.
I purchased used Dpf Cleaning Va that’s broken damaged or deleted also DOC and loose material anybody have any do want to sell looking for large quantities
Im getting ready to do this. Except i dont have a hot water pressure washer. Do you think the hot water at the car wash will work?
GJC I don't think the hot water is a necessity but using the car wash would be a smart alternative!
TheDieseler hey bud i just wanna said thank you. I appreciate you making this video. I pressure washed my filters...truck runs great now. I must say thorough flushing is key. After pressure washing i flushed our with hose. Could be because i dont have a fancy machine like yours. Once again thank you.
When u wash the filter and reset the trucks computer..do u run into any issues using the same serial number from the filter?
usdpaulp Cummins doesn't require that you enter one but I know that it is not an issue with Detroit. Especially since cleaning filters would not leave you with new numbers. I've actually seen people save a couple of serial numbers and enter them into multiple trucks when they forget to write down the right ones. Or enter the same one twice in one truck. I don't recommend that though.
TheDieseler awesome. Thanks for the quick reply.
I had 5 codes before pressure washing. Now only 1 (clogged particulate filter soot accumulation)
And i think it will be gone after the moisture dries.
@@rustamkahramanhey did it work? I’ve replaced sensors and the only thing I keep getting is parked regents. Think my filter is clogged. Whatcha think?
@@maxenra I washed it at 450k miles sold the truck at 600k miles. I know the guy who buy it from me. He finally changed the filter at 800k miles. So total of 350k miles lasted after washing it.
I called Peterbilt and they told me not to do this on my peterbilt with a Cummins because it will cause chunks of debri to dry up and get hard like concrete then I will have to replace my DPF filter... what do you say
That is not true. I’ve done this many times. Just make sure to actually wash it out. If that was actually true there wouldn’t be liquid cleaning machines
