I recently removed both my DPF and DOC. I had it washed at coin car wash. I had it dried out. Re installed next day. Then I did forced regen. All in all, cost me $20 in coins. And so far it's driven 12k miles and the light hasn't returned.
I have been pressure washing my dpf for less than £10 at my local carwash for years with zero issues and zero faults! So why in the heck would I stop doing that?
I pressure washed mine until i had water spraying out the other side clean and clear about 4 feet took me seemed like 2 hours to fully clean it with a low power pressure washer but i think in the future i will clean myself kinda a headach but worth it if your willing to put in the time to actually clean it the first 10 min i had no water passage back and forth but eventually i started to get flow after one 20 min break and 2 hours later i was confident in the solution ordered the gaskets and a new clamp cuz i broke one put it back together and good as new in the beginning i was getting crankcase pressure sensor going off and leaking oil so i dove right into the dpf filter then after completion i went to the egr cooler cracked the hoses off took a peek then flushed it out with water (egr cooler was not that bad) plugged it back together was gonna look into the egr valve but by the cooler i speculated it was not bad either upon further investigation due to the dpf filter getting clogged and back pressure i had a crank case seal blow out so that turbine was not operating correctly replaced that seal spun it down the road and she never sounded more health good luck out there hope you are as successful as me beware when messing with clamps they will break be sure to properly seat all seals correctly or you will have a air leak be patient and you will see positive results i just did work on my truck estemated 15k worth of work i done the labor 1k dollars good luck guys keep a positive mind set fyi they can be pressure washed but thats hours cabt be done in 30 45 min take time and patience
Doing a forced regen the night before and pressure washing it works perfect, one can clearly see all the holes open up eventually I have Ancel obd scanner which has a function to test dpf blockage which reves up the engine to 2000 rpm and that would blow out what ever is remaining and you can feel the truck breath easy after that.
So did the customer just pressure his dpf and that was it?? If so then yes that would be pointless, done mine off the car used both a 2 types of dpf cleaner 1 acidic and 1 alkaline, flushed it through many times with a garden hose and no had any problems with it at all. The flow pressure has dropped from 290mbar at 3k to 60 at 3k.
@jorgehidalgo4792 amazon or eBay for the wynns cleaner, the other is diluted brick acid, or you can use drain cleaner they both use sodium hypochloride. Drain cleaner doesn't need to be diluted, but the brick cleaner does. Just be carefull with any splashes and wear eye protection. It is not something you want on your skin.
@jorgehidalgo4792 also has been about a year now, and I checked the pressure on the dpf 2 weeks ago. It was reading 6mbar at idle and 50 at 3k rpm, so it cleaned it well and not had any issues since.
I pressure wash mine and works out great ! Here in Cali you gotta pay between 600-700 to oven bake it . I only use 20 dlrs in coins at my local car wash!
Just a thought off assumption. Possibly it didn’t go well for this customer, because the filter was beyond help. If you stay ahead of it and knock soot out periodically, will probably work out a lot better. To get a total cleaning though I’m sure you’re going to need that 1000 + degrees. You can only get the very loose and fine soot with a pressure washer. But that is better than none, can’t see why it wouldn’t help.
Good day , I’ve maxxforce engine which exhaust brake is on after 5 min from starting and the only code is for dpf sensor , I’ve replaced the sensor and clean the dpf still the same
Hey Ryan you should make a video about where diesel trucks are going in the future or like your thoughts about electric trucks and when or if they will take over diesel.
Its really worth cleaning them, how often should they be cleaned? I have a 2019 T680 with the X15 and it has 469k miles, i bought it in January, im not sure if its been cleaned. OTR Diag says its 73% ash load, KW told me it needs cleaned every 500k miles. If the filter can last that long, i would just rather replace it.
Hey Ryan.this was a great video but I do have a question; how do u know your filter needs cleaning? Or is it just something u need to do every 250k miles?
It’s supposed to be on a maintenance schedule of so many miles but if you start getting frequent regens then time to clean or replace. Personally is replace cleaning doesn’t last as long then have to pay labor to take it off again
@user-zt6bt8dp2c I think I will come in and have u take a look.since I got this used truck from the dealer it has asked for regen just ones and it's almost a year now but I feel it regen a few times while on the move.i don't idle my truck.i prefer using other means to cooling and heating my body
We took a BRAND brand new T880 kenworth with only 230K miles on it and straight piped it and it is extremely loud and rolls coal and even louder than the 6NZ pre emission in the other older kenworth and that one is not straight piped but it’s loud and it rolls coal too but the new kenworth we don’t use DEF fluid anymore and we have been stopped by DOT a couple times already and they have not put it out of service or anything but they were looking pretty hard at the truck being straight piped because nobody else has done that but we are burning more fuel it’s getting worse fuel mileage seems like 4 miles per gallon total but it’s making plenty of money and it’s not causing any problems the lights come and go on the dash so I hope this helps you out on your journey and we been watching you for years now but I never said anything to you until now but as far as the DEF FILTER we don’t even use it at all and the truck is able to run triple digits with no problems but we have gotten worse fuel mileage 💖💖💖 Poptart
Nice story Mr. Rolling coal. Dot only have to vipe your tailpipe with the paper towels. Reading your post reminded me when my mother reading Andersen's Fairy Tales for me 50 year's ago . Please no response no need it. Post more stories trust me it's entertaining.✌️
all this tells me is blow with air first get most of ash out then pressure wash till clean water comes out. probley did a 5 min wash on it and called it good.
Personally I’d just replace the dpf it doesn’t last as long cleaning it as it doesn’t clean 100% then you’d have to pay labor to take it off again in short period of time.
@@ganbaa1312 not in the long run. I paid almost $500 to get mine cleaned with new gaskets and clamps only lasted around 120K miles then I had to replace with a brand new one for $2,200 plus gaskets. Did it myself. I think paces can wash them out supposably get it almost 100% clean have my old one might take it in and see how clean they can get it.
it is a funny opinion about what not to do to a def filter when the very reason there is a problem is the abuse the truck is taking to keep people warm or cool this being the only reason the def system would need to regen yet nobody says this out loud as def filter are a money maker for shops I bought a truck cheap and babied the system back to health by not idling not at all
Your pressure washing it the wrong way genius... you need to only blow the water back twords where the exhaust entry would be otherwise your just packing particulates deeper into the filter
There are always tricks and hacks to do something. Well... Unless you are dealing with customers. I work for a company's fleet Dept. We use hot pressure washers, home-made blowers and especial technics to clean PDF's and DOC's. The company doesn't care if the filters come back 2 or 3 months later. The stupid drivers are going to idle the trucks anyway for a long time and clog up the filters again
If they are doing their own work they should just get the oven equipment to do it correctly. At least that way they will have less labor expense in the long run.

Just because it using a pressure washer failed this time doesn't make it a bad idea.
Before cleaning it do a forced regen then pressure wash it works like a charm, if you can’t do forced regen well might not be able to clean it good.

Hey Ryan you should make a video about where diesel trucks are going in the future or like your thoughts about electric trucks and when or if they will take over diesel.
Good suggestion! Thanks!
If u have a def delete do u still have to clean DPF filters
Depends is the exhaust still connected to the DPF
Great videos per usual, could you make a video explaining modern electronics on trucks and what they control. Like the sam modules etcetera.
What method is going to cost you more than it's worth down the road? The water pressure or the take out your self and take it to get it baked?
