Context for why he's getting booed. Back in 2017, the Astros won their first ever World Series(the championship for Major League Baseball). However, around late 2019, it came out that the Astros were cheating during the 2017 season. I won't get into how, since Im afraid youll get lost in the details. Since then, the Astros have became "Public Enemy number 1", with every interaction the team has under a microscope from the fans- in part because of the way the MLB handled this scandal. Yes, the Astros lost draft picks, and their managers were fired; but none of the star players(Alex Bregman, Jose Altuve, George Springer) that benefited from the cheating were ever punished- unless you consider being booed 29/30 stadiums as punishment. Also, as of time of this comment, the Mariners are 28-24 and first place in their division.
@@sunny1992s The baseball commissioner even had to make a rule that you weren't allowed to hit the astros with the ball or you'd be extra punished. So messed up how that was handled. Essentially no punishment for anyone except a slap on the wrist for the coach.
This was fun to watch! I don’t see anyone answering all the questions you ask during the video, so here are my answers. 5:12 This is the “bullpen” where pitchers warm up. 5:41 The mascot’s name is just “Mariner Moose.” 9:50 The dirt is a specialized mix of sand, silt and clay. 12:40 The countdown timer is new this year. Baseball was getting worse and worse with pitchers and hitters faffing about between every pitch, so the clock was introduced. The batter is required to be ready for the pitch before there are 8 seconds left, and the pitcher is required to throw before time runs out. It has sped up the game considerably. 15:45 As you noticed, there is no set time for a baseball game. It’s just 9 innings. The longest professional baseball game ever was over 8 hours, but most are 2-3 hours long. 15:50 Yes, an inning will last until there are 3 outs. It doesn’t matter how many runs are scored. 17:40 Yes, a game is played until there is a winner. There are no ties, and extra innings are not sudden death. There will always be an equal chance for both teams. 17:50 The guy you noticed is the first base coach. There is also a 3rd base coach. Their function is to give runners any needed instructions, such as whether to steal or not, and whether to keep running or stop at a particular base. 18:40 People do move around. I go to a game to watch the game, but not everyone does, as you noticed. 20:30 I don’t know exactly what happened here, but this is a rather typical looking altercation between baseball teams. The Mariners and Astros have a bit of a rivalry, so I presume someone did something the other didn’t like. Once that starts, all teammates join in. It does all seem a bit silly when you look at it objectively. 21:00 If a runner advances because of a dropped pitch, it will be called a “passed ball” if it’s the catcher’s fault, or a “wild pitch” if it’s the pitcher’s fault. And it’s not stealing a base if there’s another reason you were able to run. 21:20 Julio Rodriguez is a very talented young player for the Mariners, and he is also quite charming, so he is very popular. 22:25 Everybody is booing because they don’t like the ruling. I presume it went against the Mariners. 25:25 “RF” means Right Field. Right and Left are from the batter’s perspective. You are sitting between center field and right field. 27:20 “AVG” is batting average - how many base hits divided by “at bats” (effectively attempts); “R” is runs scored; “H” is hits; “HR” is home runs; “RBI” is runs batted in (how many people scored because you hit the ball); “OBP” is on base percentage, it’s like batting average but includes things like walks that allow you to get on base without getting a hit; “SLG” is slugging percentage, it’s like batting average, but instead of all hits counting as 1, doubles are 2, triples are 3, and home runs are 4; “OPS” is the sum of OBP and SLG. One thing baseball fans love is statistics, and there are all sorts of statistics kept about baseball!
Wow, you certainly know your stuff! Thank you so much for taking the time to write all that for us. You have explained everything really clearly and given us a much better understanding of baseball. Really appreciate it 👍
Great job of explaining things, but one minor correction. While in theory the first base coach is there to advise the runner when to steal etc, their real job is to slap the runner on the butt and say something like “good job.” Baseball is weird that way.
back in 1992, I had a similar situation …I had about 30 minutes to explain baseball to a Brit. I picked this guy up at Hotel Belair and drove him to LAX, (Los Angeles Airport). you see, I was a chauffeur and I had many opportunities to drive people with “means” to and from the local airports. anyway this Brit knew the ride was just under 30 minutes - and to please explain baseball to him. I had a great time and at the end of the ride he now had a BASIC understanding of the game. he thanked me for it and gave me a really nice tip. it was George Harrison.
I honestly would love nothing more than to have a British couple who know nothing about baseball sit and ask questions about baseball for a whole game. I think it would be so fun and humorous to see what things theyd find strange. Great watch
@@justing42 he didn’t ask that one. But I’d prob say it has no soul, like college football is about to lose btw. The NFL is kinda like watching Budweiser vs Coca Cola. Sponsored by Tostitos. It’s so corporate it’s kinda gross feeling when you go to a game. This would be probably too nuanced for my British friend to understand 😂
The pace of the game doesn't insist you watch every moment. It allows you to talk about the game. To take it all in with your own pace. It allows you to wander and meander taking in the sights and sounds. Baseball is just as much about the experience at the park as it is about the game.
Yes, people always say how boring it is like this is a very social watch. It’s meant for people to come together and talk and just enjoy the experience and everything.
Keep in mind the regular season for MLB baseball teams is 162 games long. That means 81 home games. Some fans treat the games pretty casually as a result and pick and choose when to actually show up or watch the games passively while hanging out with a group of friends. Glad you guys chose to experience this!
Attending a baseball game is so much fun. It's a sport that breethes so there is plenty of time to chat with friends or strangers, go for a walk, grab some food anytime, or even take a quick nap.
I find it really amusing and fresh watching people who have never experienced American things like baseball experience it and embrace it. I think we all need to do that.
Dbacks fan here. Y'all have such an underrated ballpark! Definately on my bucket list whenever I hit up PNW. Really pulling for y'all to win the ALW this year!
@@OneCouplesAdventure, Next time you make it over to Seattle we will have to show you around properly. From the haunted underground tour where people used to get Shanghaied, or the peninsula where you can visit a rain forest or where we almost had another War with England.
9:55...that is an infield mix. I'm a groundskeeper, so I know that MLB stadiums have a 60% sand, 30% clay and 10% silt infield mix. The sand helps with drainage and consistent particle size, the clay binds everything together and the silt retains a bit of moisture. They are watering down the infield mix to make it less dusty, more compact, and more consistent hops for ground balls. It's not muddy, more just firm so the ball bounces true rather than dying in a pile of dusty dirt or hitting a pebble and bouncing another way.
@@watson956 Typically, yes. Changes probably for more Northern teams than Southern, but thats just climate related in terms of how much rain each field gets.
I'm a Seattle Mariners fan who just stumbled across this video. So delightful. Glad you guys took a chance on this entertainment and had what looked to be a great time.
And you went to my teams ballpark!?!!? I feel so honored 😭😭 You said this dude must not be liked he just got booted by everybod and instantly I knew it was Jose Altuve 😂
Fun video! A few of my friends from England visited me in Los Angeles and I took them to a Dodgers game. They had such a wonderful time that they became life long Dodgers fans now! lol they’ll text me from England talking about the Dodgers now. I’m glad you guys enjoyed yourselves at a baseball game
Great video! I work across the street from T-Mobile Park. So we've been to our fair share of Mariners games. Yes, people will often get up and walk around during games. There is a lot of time spent in the concourses or waiting to get food or use the restroom. There are 81 home games a season and they're not all crucial games. So sometimes people just go for the atmosphere. Baseball is considered the "great American pastime". So it's a really popular night out during the summer. Traffic gets HORRENDOUS leaving the stadium. So sometimes people will bail out in the 7th inning or so if it's not the most exciting game. Glad you guys had fun, though!
Thank you, and cool you work just across the street from there. We loved it, such an amazing atmosphere. Definitely gonna remember our 1st ever baseball game. We loved Seattle too
I’ve basically been binging your Discovery Princess vlog posts because they’re so helpful and informative (we’re taking our first cruise ever on Sapphire Princess in 2 weeks-also to Alaska), I love that you’re not cynical and like to have fun and try new things, and you both make me laugh. Home is Portland, OR and as you can see by my hat, I’m a baseball fan (TX Rangers so I take the train up once a year to catch a game…at least until Portland gets a team! 🤞) so I was tickled to see this video even though it has nothing to do with cruising! I’m glad you guys had fun! Baseball is LIFE 😂
Thanks so much for the lovely comment. Have a great cruise to Alaska, let us know how you get on when you return. And yes we loved the Baseball game. We now watch it on the TV at home 😁
The YT algorithm decided to bring this video to my attention. I live in Seattle and my wife and I are life-long Mariner fans. Seeing all of this we take for granted through your eyes is so much fun! I'm glad you got to visit our city and hope you had a great time! Some thoughts: The Astros are one of our biggest rivals, thus all the booing (especially Altuve). The attendance can seem lower than it really is because a lot of people go for the vibes and drinks; as you noticed, it's fairly popular for people to buy cheap tickets and then spend most of the game hanging out in the area where you started because it's close to the field, it's near the bullpen (where pitchers warm up), it's near good food and drinks, and it's just a very social area. Also, keep in mind there are 81 home games per season, so people with season tickets won't come to every single game. And even if they will, they may meet with friends and end up spending most of the game elsewhere in the stadium. Yes, a game could theoretically go forever if a team kept getting hits or homeruns or otherwise avoided getting a player out. The clocks counting down are relatively new to baseball -- until recent years, it was common for baseball games to go 3+ hours (and playoff games would go 4+ hours); now it's down to about 2.5 hours. Most people like the changes, but there's always a group of traditionalists who hate anything new.
I just had to smile at this. It me of my Irish father. After he retired, he used to walk up to my high school and watch the baseball games in the spring. One time I was walking to the locker room from track practice and he frantically called me over. “Now. Let me get this straight. It’s the guy with the stick and the guy throwing the ball against everyone else, right?” Close enough, dad. This description of the game was after he had lived in America for 50 years!!! I have to cut him slack though, He worked like a slave for those years and baseball was the furthest thing from his mind. Wish he was still here so I could really tell him what the game is all about.
Yes, people buy seats and then move around. My brother and I buy the cheapest seats possible and then get there early and set up camp in Edgar’s Cantina. Super cool atmosphere and better views. I’m so glad you guys were able to visit our great city! PNW FOR LIFE!
I just discovered your channel with this video. As a native Seattlite, I am so happy that you got to see a good Mariners win. That baseball game experience is a real American tradition. Go Mariners!!
im so jealous you guys got to see a brawl in your first game! i have been going to Mariners games my whole life (20 years) and ive never gotten to see one! glad you had fun!
This just came to me in recommended but as a lifelong baseball fan and also with an appreciation of cultures mixing this was a hilarious video. I loved their interested, no ego approach to a new experience
Glad that you had such a good time watchng the Mariners! Wonderful that you made your way around the park during the game. I ike doing that too to see the game from different vantage points. Cheers!
Former Little League second baseman (early 1970s) and lifelong baseball fan here… 🙂 I really enjoyed your wonderful video. Baseball is conceptually simple, but there are so many rules and nuances, that it ends up being one of the more complicated games to understand. Baseball is also perhaps the most statistics-heavy game in existence. These statistics are endlessly fascinating for many fans, allow pretty good (but not perfect) comparisons between players and eras, and thus permit old guys like me to participate in endless arguments about who was better than who, who was the greatest, etc. To answer the greatest player question, my answer is Willie Mays of the San Francisco Giants (and, at the end of his career, New York Mets). Willie just passed away (June 18) at the age of 93. I was fortunate to see him play in person several times in the 1960s. To address your conversation at about the 16:30 mark - Baseball is an event-controlled game, meaning that the game ends when one or more events are completed. In this case, nine innings (typical) with one team in the lead. A tie score at the end of nine innings means that play continues with one or more extra innings until one team has a lead at the completion of an extra inning. Rain can prevent playing the full nine innings and, depending on the score and the number of innings played, there may or may not be a winner declared. Sometimes, the two teams will play two games against each other on the same day, which is called a double header. College double headers are sometimes seven innings per game instead of nine innings. Little League games are six innings. Softball, cricket, tennis, volleyball, track-and-field events, etc. are also examples of event-controlled games. Soccer, American football, basketball, etc. are time-controlled games, meaning that the games ends when time is exhausted. Some time-controlled games can end in a tie, while others have some method for tie-breaks. In event-controlled games, there is always the possibility that the person or team that is behind can win with a late surge. This is much more difficult to do in time-controlled games because the late surge can start too late. Finally, a subtle baseball joke that I came up with about 20 years ago: "Life is only 25% fair. The remaining 270° is foul territory."
My son met a British couple while traveling and watching Japanese baseball for the first time. He had a great time orienting them to Baseball and went to a Sake bar with them afterwards. It looked like fun.
My wife and I are season ticket members for the Mariners. It was really fun to see the two of you having a great time! Something that helps keep it affordable is the value menu. They have cheaper drinks, popcorn, and other snacks that you can find at select concessions stands throughout the stadium. We typically eat at home, bring a few snacks, and buy a couple of drinks. I hope you enjoyed the rest of the time you spent in Seattle!
That was a fun video. I love “fish out of water” stories. And BTW: you had a pretty good handle on how baseball is played. I went to a cricket match when I was in England years ago, and I had zero clue what was happening. Lol. Kudos to you both.
To increase attendance, Major League Baseball decided to design stadiums that have attractions other than the game itself. Depending on the team, only about 2/3 of the people attending actually watch the entire game.
On the one hand, it smells of desperation and perhaps a bit of disrespect. On the other hand, opening doors early allows for the best of both worlds. Done properly, a ballpark can be a vibrant and lively place.
And dont forget many tickets are bought by businesses who try to resell them for a higher price. A game may be technically sold out but still have empty seats because the tix werent resold
This is one of the best videos I’ve seen with you guys. I am American and I know the complexities of understanding baseball. I tried to explain to a couple of French guys baseball and realized how difficult it is to understand the game. I have to say you did really good figuring things out. It was funny to see your confusion. It would be like learning Cricket for us. Really enjoy your videos, especially this one.
Thanks so much and we did our best to understand it and soak in the atmosphere. We had a great time and have been watching it at home to understand it even better 😁. We would definitely go again. And yes haha it would be like us trying to explain the rules of cricket
Great video! I'm half-Brit, half-American, and a cousin visited me in Los Angeles when I was a teenager, and we went to a baseball game. I did not realize just how many rules there are until I attempted this. The basics are hard enough, but then you get into third-strike-but-catcher-drops-the-ball, balk calls, the foul line pole high up, pick off throws, double plays, intentional walks......good Lord, my poor cousin's head was spinning. You guys did very well figuring stuff out, bravo!
Great video! I live in Seattle & am a Mariners fan. I wish I had been seated near u at the game to help answer your questions. You do have a pretty good understanding of the game tho. MLB & its teams really push for a fun, relaxed, family friendly atmosphere as u saw with all the kids. So glad u 2 had a good time!!!
Loved this! All the Brits I know come here and say baseball is boring because they don't pay attention or try to understand the game. I loved your enthusiasm and that you stayed until the end!! I didn't love how you kept pointing out how badly my Mets were losing though! 😭😭😭 PS: The pic you inserted of British stadium food was hilarious! Why is everything burnt?? And that tiny sausage in that ginormous bun!! 😂😂😂🌭
Considering it's your first time watching and figuring out a game, you guys did a fantastic job! Great video and very entertaining. Thanks for doing this!
This has got to be your best video ever. Next, come to Boston and attend a Red Sox game. Not only do you get to sing Take Me Out to the Ball Game, you get Sweet Caroline as well. And you’ll see the big difference between East Coast baseball fans vs West Coast. Here, we actually show up on time and watch the game. And to answer at least one of your questions, stand venders will throw you a bag of peanuts, often quite theatrically. But if you order something like a hot dog it gets passed down.
Thanks so much, we'll be travelling back over to the states next year and would love to go watch another game. We watch it on the T.V at home now too lol
I'm from Seattle and my big sports trip was to Stamford Bridge and I got some cheap seats in the back too. They were like lower level furthest row back behind the goal, I only had a little slit where I could see the field and I had to squat a bit to see under the over hang and over the people in front of me.. hah it was great.
It was fun to experience a baseball game with someone who hasn't experienced the sport. Baseball you will see shirts for contemporary players. Like you mentioned, Rodriguez is a young star for the Mariners. You will also see shirts for classic team players. You probably saw some Johnson shirts for Randy Johnson, who is an all time great in baseball. What is fun is we like to look for the most obscure jersey. A player that isn't a star but may be a fan favorite. A shirt you wouldn't expect anyone to have with that name. Some of the more historical teams, New York Yankees or St. Louis Cardinals you see a LOT of historical jerseys and players. Baseball had no clock. An average game is usually around 2 hours but they can go on. Historically there have some big outliers. The longest MLB game went 26, almost 3 full games, and lasted over 4 hours. I went to a game last year in Colorado. They played the Anaheim Angels. The Angels scored over 20 runs. There were a lot of home runs, where the ball is hit over the fence. In short baseball is: 9 innings unless the game is tied, then it goes into extra innings until someone outscores the other. If the visitors score the home team still gets their last at bat. Each team gets 3 outs per inning. If they score 200 runs and no one is out it keeps hitting until 3 out are made. There is a 'strike zone' for the batter from the shoulders down to the knees. The is also a right and left line to for a box. If a pitcher can get 3 pitches in the box or a combination of the batter swinging and missing at a pitch anywhere or hitting the ball out of play the batter is out. The only thing is the 3rd 'strike' has to be in the box or a swing and miss for the batter to be called out. There are some exceptions, like interfering with the catcher. BA- Batting Average - The total number of hits, divided by the total number of at bats. RBI - Runs Batted In - This is the number of runners on base that the batter has driven in over the course of the season. SLG - Slugging - This is the batters power percentage. It is a formula that tabulates the total batter at bats compared to how many bases. Example: If a batter had one at bat on the season and hit a home run, their slugging percentage would be 4,000. OBP - On base percentage - It is a formula that tells you the frequency of the batter getting on base. It is total hits, plus total number of times the batter was walked divided by the total number of plate appearances. A walk doesn't count as an at bat. Example: First game of the season. With 4 plate appearances, I hit a single, strike out my other two appearances and walk in my fourth appearance. My batting average is .333, 1 for 3. My OBP is .500 because I was 2 for 4 because of the walk. My SLG is .333 because i only hit a single. If I had hit a double it would be .667 because it would have been 2 bases for 3 at bats opposed to 1 base for 3 at bats
A high scoring game has more action ,but a low scoring game means the pitchers were making it difficult for the hitters . Great pitching can shut down great hitting ...enjoy !
When a catcher loses control of the ball and the runners advance, that's called a "pass ball," which cannot also count as a stolen base statistically. Same goes for a "wild pitch." Whereas a pass ball is a pitch that the catcher should have caught and controlled, a wild pitch is one that is deemed to not be reasonably catchable, so essentially the pitcher's fault rather than the catcher (as the name implies). Occasionally, if a pitcher is really struggling to control their pitches, you might see him throw a low ball into the ground at like 93 mph, causing it to bounce like 20 ft into the air, or a high ball over everyone's heads. That's always fun! LOL He might also hit the batter, which is a whole other thing in itself. That is officially called a "hit by pitch," or HBP in the stat books (no, not high blood pressure). The majority of these are not intentional and are caused by issues with pitch control, similar to pass balls and wild pitches. However, once in a while, when there's some spicy drama going on, a pitcher might intentionally hit a batter with a pitch. This typically causes bench-clearing confrontations like the one you saw, but often WAY more intense, like brawls. Just look up an intentionally hit batters compilation and you'll see what I mean.
Some of the empty seats could be season ticket holders that didn't attend. Those seats also might have been bought by ticket resellers but the resellers didn't have anyone but those seats.
Nothing beats the atmosphere at a live baseball game, not football, not basketball, not racing. I've never been to a European football (soccer) game I've heard they're special.
As an American, we appreciate you two and many others like you, trying to understand our culture. We are a very lively bunch of many countries, cultures and religions but somehow for the majority of us, we find a way to live and enjoy each other's individualism. Thank you for letting us look at your side of the world and it is very educational. I wish there were some kind people to explain how the game was played while you were there. There's nothing like a good ol American baseball game and American baseball fans. Enjoyed your content! Keep it going!!
What a nice young couple. Glad you enjoyed yourselves and got to see a home run. That doesn’t happen every game. Safe travels to you, Joe in Kentwood Michigan and Detroit Tigers fan!
25:27 - You got it - RF stands for the Right Fielder. Outfield position who was closest to the seats you bought. (later) RBI = Runs Batted In, meaning runs scored thanks to a hit that Taylor Trammell had.
Hi Stacey and Kev. You have made my day with this video. When Stacey said " this guy got a lot of cheers, is he like the David Beckham"? 😂. You two are the best!!! Thank you ❤
I know how they feel. The few times I've watched a bit of Cricket, I didn't understand it one bit. I even read the cricket Wikipedia page to go over the rules, but it was like another language. Baseball seems so straight forward when you've watched it your whole life, but I can understand how it would be confusing to someone who's never watched a game.
🤔Thank you very much for sharing your experience with us. I have been a Mariners fan for a long time and have never seen the different shop levels and how you can roam around and view the game at different angles. Once again, thanks for the tour.⚾️💣💥💯😎
I'm glad you had fun I grew up in a house where my brother and father hijacked the TV all weekend for sports. I grew up with baseball basketball and football. I love baseball to this day
So glad you experienced this! For me, growing up around Seattle, going to an M's game is something that purely makes me feel like I'm at home. It's special to me and something I've done since I was a young boy. The food carts outside, the field, the game. It's super special to me even though I totally understand how weird and esoteric baseball is. Thanks for being so open to experiencing it and you totally killed it!!
The "Mexican Wave" started in Seattle at Huskies college football games and then to the Seattle Seahawks based on a similar but slightly different stunt at a Denver Ice Hockey game. It was several years later that it spread to Mexico at the 1986 World Cup.
I was there. Former Husky cheer guy and TV personality Robb Weller started it when engaging with the student section. It was against Stanford for homecoming on Halloween, 1981. I was in the band at the time. It spread to the Seahawks because of the overlapping fan base.
You two seem like such a nice couple! It’s neat that you two were willing to go to a baseball game without much knowledge of them game but seemed to really enjoy yourselves and take in the full experience! I hope you enjoyed our city and team. Cheers!
This video made my day! I loved to see your enthusiasm and curiosity - baseball is actually decreasing in popularity among Americans (in part because the game is so long and can have long stretches where nothing much happens), so to see two non-Americans enjoying a game makes me happy. I hope you are able to experience another baseball game in another city soon! (I highly recommend a NY Yankees game but I am a bit biased 😊)
This was fun! Thanks for sharing and glad you enjoyed the game. I look forward to my first Premier League and/or Championship football match in England someday.
Ayyyy! Thanks for visiting my hometown and checking out my home baseball team! Glad you enjoyed the city and the team! Go Ms and have fun on your adventures!
We did this on our first cruise trip. We were cruising out of New York so we had a week in the city beforehand. I knew a little about baseball from early Channel 5 coverage. Once I knew we were going to New York I checked out the Yankees schedule and bought tickets on line for a game against the Red Sox (Sept 5th 2013), picked the tickets up at the stadium. We loved it, loved the whole atmosphere, the stadium, the game. We've cruised in and out of New York another three times since and have been lucky enough to see the Yankees each time, taking other members of the family. We are confirmed Yankees fans. If you get the chance to go watch a game I would recommend it. It's a great day or night.
I loved this video! I’m a big Mariners fan. Going to the game is an experience. It’s such a fun atmosphere! If you really want to follow the game closely, though, watching on TV or listening on the radio is better for that. Each has its place. And it does cost some money for the stadium experience. It’s worth it to me to save up and go a few times a year. The food is so delicious! And so much to choose from! Glad this showed up in my feed tonight. Hope you come back again so I can go with you and help you understand the game! 🔱😊
I am a huge baseball fan! Went to T-Mobile Park back when it was Safeco Field in 2016. Great stadium! It is definitely an experience worth having and glad that people from the UK are showing some interest in "America's pasttime!" You guys were fun to watch!
I used to keep statistics in high school for the baseball team. I thought it would be boaring...but I learned lots...and grew to appreciate the strategies. My niece lives in England now. I would love to explaine baseball to her and her partner! What a great video. Thank you so much for sharing your experience.
The Mariners are my favorite sports team, and I'm glad to see people have fun at their first baseball game even if they don't really know what's going on. I hope you guys enjoyed your visit to T-Mobile Park. Goooooo Mariners!
@@OneCouplesAdventure Oh cool! Fenway Park is one of the oldest stadiums in MLB, if not one of the oldest in professional sports, so it should be a very interesting and different experience!
@@OneCouplesAdventure Fenway is considered to be one of the most beloved stadiums in the league. Think how Old Trafford in EPL is beloved. It is also one of the oldest stadiums there; So much history is there. Also, Red Sox fans are a different beast, in that they are very passionate about their team(so make sure youre only wearing Boston gear there.)
@@OneCouplesAdventure As others have said, it is a remarkable place to watch a game because of it being one of the oldest stadiums in Major League Baseball as the seats are quite narrow. But the other interesting part about Fenway is the odd configuration. Left field has a giant wall referred to as "The Green Monster" as it is 37 feet tall. There are many balls hit off of the Monster as well as over it for home runs. There are specific traditions there, but I don't want to spoil that for you as you will likely find those to be fun. The area outside of Fenway Park has many pubs and restaurants. Boston fans hate the New York Yankees with an extreme passion. Enjoy your upcoming trip!
I'm not much of a baseball fan and definitely cannot stand watching it on TV, but in person? The atmosphere is amazing! I usually get the cheapest seats and walk around and watch from different areas. Btw, this stadium sells crickets for snacks
I would highly recommend going to a game in Asia if you ever make it over there. Japan and Korea are loads of fun and have a bit more activity during the game with songs and organized cheers. US fan culture is very much more chilled out and relaxing day at the park. In South Korea, they also let you bring in food and drinks into the stadium.
A friend from Australia went to a Mariners game one night and likened it to watching paint dry. (I love it - the pace, loved Niehaus, Rizzs, Blowers and Sims in the broadcast booth, the atmosphere - much different than football.) Congrats on your first game certificate. I went to a game at the beginning of their first season ever at the long gone Kingdome. (Just a couple years ago...ha!.) Next visit take in a Univ. of Washington Huskies football game in Husky Stadium. Hopefully we will be back up to snuff soon with all the conference, coach and players shuffling in and out.
13:44 It's the "pitch clock" Limits the amount of time the pitcher has to throw the ball. Its only a few years old to the game and has sped up the game tremendously.
In the outfield there's a large beer garden, actually there are a couple, where a large number of people stay for the duration of the game. This is why so many of the "cheap" seats are empty. People pay the least amount to get into the game and then watch from the beer garden.
As soon as you said “oh he’s getting booed” I knew it was Jose altuve
I was there for this series, and Altuve was actually injured! Bregman was getting most of the boos throughout.
@@zachansen8293 Joe Kelly was fined harder than any of the Astros- which is beyond bonkers.
@@gotacallfromvishalwe don’t like cheaters. Keep trying.
This was fun to watch!
I don’t see anyone answering all the questions you ask during the video, so here are my answers.
5:12 This is the “bullpen” where pitchers warm up.
5:41 The mascot’s name is just “Mariner Moose.”
9:50 The dirt is a specialized mix of sand, silt and clay.
Really appreciate it 👍
@@OneCouplesAdventure You're welcome! I had so much fun watching, I just felt compelled to answer your questions!
Great job of explaining things, but one minor correction. While in theory the first base coach is there to advise the runner when to steal etc, their real job is to slap the runner on the butt and say something like “good job.” Baseball is weird that way.
@@billcook4768 LOL. No lies detected. 🙂
Great job answering & explaining things in a clear, easy to understand way!
back in 1992, I had a similar situation …I had about 30 minutes to explain baseball to a Brit.
That's a fun story 😁
I honestly would love nothing more than to have a British couple who know nothing about baseball sit and ask questions about baseball for a whole game. I think it would be so fun and humorous to see what things theyd find strange. Great watch
Haha thanks so much 😁
A Brit was at my Super Bowl party this year and we answered his questions the whole time and it was very satisfying.
People from other countries expose stuff that we think is normal and you’re like well.. yeah I guess that is weird 😂
@@nickinportlandwhat was your answer to why does the NFL suck?
Exactly lol. Baseball games for casual fans is perfect because it's so relaxed. Generally until after the 7th inning lol

Yep! Brits who enjoy The Hundreds Cricket Tournament would love MLB. ⚾🇬🇧

@jordanroberts1519 Thanks for this! Are all ballparks using the same mix?
@@watson956 Typically, yes. Changes probably for more Northern teams than Southern, but thats just climate related in terms of how much rain each field gets.
It also helps the umps to see a play at the plate or a bag when a runner slides.

I work for the dodgers maybe they can become regulars when they come! Well done!
The YT algorithm decided to bring this video to my attention. I live in Seattle and my wife and I are life-long Mariner fans. Seeing all of this we take for granted through your eyes is so much fun! I'm glad you got to visit our city and hope you had a great time!
Some thoughts:
The Astros are one of our biggest rivals, thus all the booing (especially Altuve).
It’s the guy with the stick and the guy throwing the ball against everyone else, right?”
Close enough, dad. This description of the game was after he had lived in America for 50 years!!! I have to cut him slack though, He worked like a slave for those years and baseball was the furthest thing from his mind. Wish he was still here so I could really tell him what the game is all about.
Love this story. Thanks for sharing 👍

Should come to a Braves game.
Great video! I'm half-Brit, half-American, and a cousin visited me in Los Angeles when I was a teenager, and we went to a baseball game. Casually having a clip of Luis Castillo for 2 seconds no audio made me laugh out loud. You guys are so fun!
You have to understand, in baseball we count everything. RBI, Runs batted in, OBP on base percentage, etc.
I’ve always wondered what the thoughts of the British are listening to our national anthem about war with them lol
In short baseball is:
9 innings unless the game is tied, then it goes into extra innings until someone outscores the other.
Thanks for explaining things in further detail for us 👍
Well, that's something you can check off your bucket list of things to do !
Enjoyed this as a baseball and Mariners fan living in the Pacific Northwest, and my mother was from London. Cheers!
tunnels are dugouts.
Thanks for sharing your first-time experience.
A high scoring game has more action ,but a low scoring game means the pitchers were making it difficult for the hitters . Great pitching can shut down great hitting ...enjoy !
Great pitching beats great hitting.
You guys are adorable! Glad you had a good time. Great video!
LOL
He might also hit the batter, which is a whole other thing in itself.

Cheers!
Thanks so much
I don’t know why this video just popped up in my feed right now, but I’m happy it did! You guys are cute. I’m glad you got to experience this.
Thanks for watching, we had a brilliant time
This video made my day!
Thanks so much for watching
@23:41 is such a great shot of an extra base hit.
baseball is the chillest sporting event you can go to imo
This was fun! Thanks for sharing and glad you enjoyed the game. I look forward to my first Premier League and/or Championship football match in England someday.
WOW! You came to my home! I hope you’ve all had a great time!!
We loved it
Bienvenidos to Seattle! It's always a good day when the Mariners beat the Astros. They're having a match as I'm writing this, lol.
You went to one of the most beautiful stadiums in the league the views of the city and the sound are just amazing
Ayyyy! Thanks for visiting my hometown and checking out my home baseball team! Glad you enjoyed the city and the team! Go Ms and have fun on your adventures!
This just came up on my feed, and it is absolutely delightful! Thank you for sharing your experience so openly.
Glad you two got to see my hometown team, but also watch them win. Thanks for stopping by
The Mariners to win the World Series this season ? Or is it the usual favorites, The Dodgers, The Yankees or The Braves ?
@@tudormiller887 i hope we win but probably the usuals
The atmosphere at The Cubs Wrigley Park is just as good. 🐻⚾
We loved it, we're off to Boston in a few months and are now planning to go watch the Red Sox!
20:59 hey you got to see a bit of a baseball scrum that’s cool. It’s not terribly common.
I stumbled on this video. I live in Seattle and had a big smile on my face throughout your discoveries here. You two are lovely people. 😊
I'm not much of a baseball fan and definitely cannot stand watching it on TV, but in person? The atmosphere is amazing! I usually get the cheapest seats and walk around and watch from different areas. Btw, this stadium sells crickets for snacks
My nieces were singing the national anthem at this game and I was right below you both. Glad you had fun!
The MLB London Series was my intro to my baseball fandom. Go Cubs Go! 🇬🇧🐻⚾
Test match cricket can feel like watching 'paint dry' to some sports fans. 😊
13:44 It's the "pitch clock" Limits the amount of time the pitcher has to throw the ball. Its only a few years old to the game and has sped up the game tremendously.
They water the dirt clay mix to make it so it's not too dry for the infield players. Less bad hops from ground balls. And overall it just looks nicer.
In the outfield there's a large beer garden, actually there are a couple, where a large number of people stay for the duration of the game. This is why so many of the "cheap" seats are empty. People pay the least amount to get into the game and then watch from the beer garden.
A point is actually a run. 3 Swings is a registered strikeout/K for the pitcher. Or 3 outs per inning in any form.
