  • A seized brake caliper meant this 20 year old wheel had been battered with heavy brake dust and iron fallout and while there was still some super-stubborn stuff left behind, Turtle Wax’s All Wheel Cleaner + Iron Remover did a great job at shifting the vast majority of it!

Yes I know there was still some stubborn crap left in the corners and yes I know you should at least rinse the wheel first to save wasting product but the caliper had seized so the battered old wheels were beyond a straight forward clean and it’s just a quick YT short not intended to be taken too seriously so try not to get your knickers in a twist!

Just a quick question, if a lot of the cleaning products brake down brake bust if you leave it on, how come it doesn't break down your brake pads 🤔...
And you can't say none of it gets onto the pabs

I agree. It's one thing to clean a maintained or moderately dirty wheel but a whole other world to reconditioning something as appallingly neglected as the wheel in this vid - especially when using a commercial non-acid based cleaner! (Which btw for my experience and purposes works very well!)
Not to mention getting at the notoriously difficult angles and tight corners of this particular design wheel. Man...some of the criticisms and snarky comments are soooo amateurish...

when I had a major brakedust issue, 3-4 years of neglect, I used 30% HCl acid, but I wish I haven't, it was very effective at cleaning but even though I was working in open field and standing as far as possible it created clouds of toxic visible fumes that irritate your eyes and arrest your breathing to the point of choking. Never ever doing that again. I thought consumer grade products were just too weak for something as dirty as that but this one seems to do 90% as good which is good enough, wish I used this instead

I think with agitation you’d see closer to 95%. You would have to go back and re apply, with a tar remover, once the wheels were off to get 98% of contaminants off. But, I can’t believe you did that! 3-4 years of neglect of your car and you decide cleaning the wheels was the first step?

That's just a lot of brake dust over a prolonged period. Proper baked on stains the alloy and can't be removed. Almost like it etches itself to the alloy. I did use bilt hamber, but found it would sit in behind the centre caps no matter how much rinsing. It would seep out when you drove. The only solution would be to remove the cap prior to use. But run the risk of damaging the cap if not removing the wheel.

Hi CCG, I have a serious question about de-ionising water - do you know of or can you recommend a de-ionising setup? Some US detailers use setups designed for RVs (motorhomes). Why I ask - where I live the water is extremely hard (60°FH) and contains CaCO3 BUT ALSO Gypsum (Calcium Sulphate CaSO4) that is NOT removed by my water softener. The aim of the de-ioniser would be to remove the Gypsum from the water so I can rinse and not get white marks all over the car.
I have a softened water connection in the garage (12°FH) which should be good for washing but I still need to de-ionise it for rinsing the car. Any ideas? All the best, Rob in Switzerland

Like the vid but the counters still have caked on and the rims need to be redone anyway but that product looks amazing

I spent a good half hour on the face. Seized caliper had messed them up good & proper. Either acid or a refurb to get them any better 🤷‍♂️.

Ok so we’ve established that scrubbing your wheels will indeed clean them. Anyone have any recommendations for a real spray on cleaner that actually works?

This provided you’re not hoping to miraculously transform a wheel that’s been battered by a seized brake caliper.

My wheels are clean. Gets washed twice a week. But being able to hit it with a spray prior to the washing and have it remove the gunk during the wash would be nice.

So being its rapid clean does that mean i have to squeeze the trigger like a machine gun like you did?

Is this safe on satin finish black aftermarket wheels?
