  • We recently aquired a Suzuki Jimny to turn into a little overlanding beast.
    Mic Van Zyl, Director from Ironman 4x4 Africa discusses the pros and cons of the highly capable Suzuki Jimny.
    In the coming weeks, we will be posting build videos as we transform this little four-wheel drive into an overlanding vehicle.

    Small Off Road vehicles are quite suitable for Overlanding. I can’t get a Jimny in the US. But the 1st Generation Vitara/Geo Tracker is doable. I just installed a bed and a kitchen in one of mine. Love your vid😎

      The AllGrip system applies brakes to the spinning wheel and by that transferring torque to the stationary wheel.
      In my opinion the Suzuki electronic LSD is way from good enough.
      When other brands with similar systems only needs a fraction of a turn to apply brakes to the spinning wheel Suzuki needs 4-5 full turns. By the time the Suzuki computer understands to apply brakes the car is at a stand still. In order to get the best out of the AllGrip system you need 3000-4000 rpm’s in mud and 2000-3000 rpm’s on rocks to get the best out of the AllGrip. This is way too fast for me, so I got a better option.
      I have diff-lockers front and rear as they are far better than any electronic LSD.

      Downhill assist is best used in Low Range 1st gear, if at all.

    Nice review!
    It took me a year to upgrade the shock absorbers and it completely transformed the car. I stuck with standard ride height.
    The wobbly handling has been fixed and it feels far more sophisticated handling wise especially on the freeway.
    If you have fitted the roof rack, upgrading the suspension is a must to reduce the effect of the higher center of gravity.

    I have a question for you experts in the 4x4 sector! (and I would like to know if you can tell me if it is true that the ironman nitro gas shock absorbers go well with the original set-up and can be adapted with the +5? I have a Suzuki jimny 4x4 with m13a 1.3 l petrol engine with shock absorbers and standard settings, yesterday afternoon I picked up the new ironman nitro gas shock absorbers and the 4x4 spare parts dealer in Florence told me that these ironman nitro gas shock absorbers are ok for 4x4 off-road vehicles with stock trim or in a second you could put the springs higher and it becomes a +5 high trim is that true? Greetings from Florence Italy!)

    Hi Mic, will it be possible to overcome the warranty exclusions associated with the suspension/drive train mods?

    • @Ironman4x4Africa
      @Ironman4x4Africa  10 місяців тому

      Hi Mike,
      This is not possible with most vehicle manufacturers. The trick is to only fit accessories that are backed by a substantial warranty on the product and more importantly, a product that has been expertly engineered and tested globally to ensure that the product does not compromise the vehicle in any way.

    Andre Pieterse from Benoni - just using my wifes email - I also am interested in the jimny as a offroader, Mic may I asked why you choose a manual and not a auto ?

    • @Ironman4x4Africa
      @Ironman4x4Africa  10 місяців тому +2

      Hi Andre,
      The auto is only a 4 speed and my experience is that at highway speeds, it drops down a fair bit in speed up a hill before gearing down to 3rd. With the 5 speed manual, you can manually shift down to 4th when required. It's not that serious. Also, the manual was available right away for us with the Auto needing a bit of a wait. If most of your driving is around town, my preference would always be a modern Auto.
