You and a few other UA-camrs have turned me on to this rig. Will be getting one soon. PLEASE....Do not delete these tutorials, or else I will have to find another hobby! Thanks again!
WOW! I am new to the SDS100, but not new to scanning. My last scanner was a Radio Shack Pro 23. This new stuff is foreign to me, and the instruction manual is not really that clear. So, thank you for breaking everything down so clearly. Your videos on the SDS 100 are of unlimited help to me.
I didn't know these fun gadgets has so much to figure out. I bought a used one of the 436HP's to try it out, then returned it and ordered an SDS100. The price of these is *painful* though.
People have to remember..in order to use the quick keys, you must have the favorite list on in the radio first. If you turn off various quick keys and forget. It may say. " Nothing to scan" even if the favorite list is on in the radio. You'll have to turn the quick key back on. It took me awhile to figure all that out.
I am still struggling with Quick Keys and developing a good plan to organize them. Using the example of Boise Biz in this video, I can see how to turn the entire favorite list on and off easily. When you go to Airport and add a Quick Key for that system, again, I can see how to easily turn that Airport system on and off. My question is, what then happens with the hundreds of other things in Boise Biz? If there are no additional systems created within Boise Biz for them AND no Quick Keys assigned, will they cease to be able to be monitored, or will they always be on whenever Boise Biz is running? I really like your videos. They are very well done! Thank you! How about doing a video about the steps to develop a plan to organize the favorite lists and their quick keys? Avoiding unnecessary complexity is important. Also, for those that don’t have an idyllic memory, what is a good method of creating an easy way to find or recall what each of the MANY quick keys does. With the older scanners that used banks it was easy to do. While it seems that the SD100/SD200 can be similarly organized, it’s really not the same. Thanks again!
Good video. Made sense. I do not use Quick Key or Favorite Keys or Department keys at all. I just have 60 favorite lists with names that say who they are. I just go into the menu and turn on or turn off the favorite list I want to listen. With the Quick keys, I would need to have a list on paper to know what item is what Quick Key and favorite key and department key to toggle on an off.90% of what i listen to are in one or two favorite list and the rest I would toggle on if I was in a certain area and wanted to listen to a specific agency. Also 99% of what I listen to are Malls, Store like Target and Costco, and hospital Security, and college security, and rail roads. I do have Police and Fire on one Favorite list but hardly listen to them as there are hundreds of Police Precincts in New York City to listen to and I I got burnt out on them decades ago.I only listen to Police or Fire if there is a Big event on my block. I find pleasure in going to places and hunting for new frequencies and collecting them. It is interesting to me to listen to the Chatter in a Costco Store as they work out how many people to let in the store during this Corona thing. Thanks again for the video.
WOW!! I learned so much just watching this small clip.. I’ve seen many videos and your video just seem to resonate with me.. I’m on the wall about purchasing this scanner but after watching your video it’s kinda of pushing to buy it now .. I’ve been in to scanning for over 35 years… I not new to this stuff, but was wondering if I was ready for this technology… I have a whistler which was a little technical to download but I got it down. I really didn’t want to learn a new system but your video has me thinking… thanks man
Hey I got my SDS 100 and it’s already exceeded my expectations on what I can receive from my house. I really appreciate your your videos I set up some favorites and I’m gonna learn the quickies next. But can you tell me how you attached your pop socket to your scanner? I can’t figure out how you were able to drill a hole to get the belt clip screw in there. I can’t pull off the back or the front of the pop socket
Hi thank you so much for watching. I actually have a video on my channel it's one of the 1st ones I ever posted on how I put the pop socket on. I just used the existing screw hole. 🙂
I have many quick keys nested into department level. They scan out of sequence when using multiple favorite lists. Example: it'll first scan 1.1 then go to 2.1, 3.1 and so on, then go to 1.2, 2.2, 3.2, then 1.3, 2.3, 3.3.....not staying OK IN the same favorite list like...1.1, 1.2, 1.3.....2.1, 2.2, 2.3....3.1, 3.2, 3.3......it's not in full sequence of each favorites list...it follows the quick keys sequence. These are all trunked groups
So the second we setup a department, it blocks ALL other departments. We can put multiple departments under one quickey? Or do we need multiple quickeys. If not, More than 10 departments, then what
I have 25 set as the quick key number for one of my Favorites lists. I haven't been able to figure out how to toggle that list ON/OFF on my SDS200. Any ideas?
I have an SDS100 but have never had a scanner before, so programming it is new to me. I've been able to muddle through Sentinel and set up favorites lists, plus a few other thngs. One problem I have, though, is when I select a list to scan, it says Nothing to Scan. I've set up all the lists the same way, and I do scan 7 out of 10. It's that last 3 that's baffling me. I have Monitor and Download ON. Anyone ran into this problem?
I can set up 99 quick keys in sentinel. On the scanner screen, I see F0:0123456789. How do I change the F0 to F1, F2 etc. to expose the groups of 10 favorites?
You just punch in 1.1.1 then enter or 1.1.2 or 1.2.1 depending on how you have it setup etc. you can turn off by just repeating the number so you’ll see an x on the screen if that quick key is off
The frequencies that are set up for my Police / Fire and EMS have the wrong frequencies imported from Radioreference because I think they moves to talk groups. How do I change that?
Updating the main database does not update the favorites. You have to go back in and remake your favorites to have the updated information. Everybody skips over this. You can spend a lot of time building your favorites, but they're only good with the database they are made from at the time you created them.

This is so much more involved than my trusty, rusty BC396T! I have to get a degree from MIT just to turn the SDS100 on and off! 😆😆😆
2 years now, and I'm still watching Unpacking Videos, learning to take my USDS100 out of the box.
I didn't know these fun gadgets has so much to figure out. I bought a used one of the 436HP's to try it out, then returned it and ordered an SDS100. The price of these is *painful* though.
Excellent information. Thank you. 👌🏾
Great video I want another SDS 100
Daymn you customized them colors Nice
Yes! 🙌

Another really good video. There’s going to be a lot to learn when I get mine, assuming the National back order is finally filled! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Terry :-) Hopefully you get yours fairly quick and don't have to wait to long.
Great video I learned so information from this video. Thank you Brian from Boston

I get confused with 3 sets of quick keys. Since you don't use them , does the scanner scan slower??
@@snakeplissskin8046 Not that i am aware of. Seems to scan the same.

Great information the only thing i get confused about is the national data base being on or off

Awesome video, I live in la county and travel through out the state of California. Sometimes I’ll use this method of programming.
Its handy! Thanks for watching. :-)
Great video!! What is the best way to keep the screen info as basic and LARGE font?

Hi do you still have your SDS100? Just wondering if you have anymore videos coming after all the latest changes! 🤞🤞
Yes I do!
So the second we setup a department, it blocks ALL other departments.
We can put multiple departments under one quickey? Or do we need multiple quickeys. If not, More than 10 departments, then what
thanks for that from a aussie scanner fan
Hey Chrisco thank you for watching! Cheers from Idaho!
Excellent video! 🙂👍
Thank you John 🙂
@@BoyAndAScanner no thank you that how I could set my stuff that we were talking about huh? Is there a way to lock out channels and unlock them too?
@@johnmongo434 Like the avoid feature?
@@BoyAndAScanner yeah so you could lock that frequency out and then unlock so you could hear it later.
How do you clear system option out, where there is just the bars no stars?
Can you program the quick keys so that you can listen to departments/systems in more than one Favorites list AT THE SAME TIME?? Please advise.
Hey, sorry for the delay. I missed your message but yes, absolutely you just turn on each favorites list. You wanna listen to
A great video...helps a lot
Good info, but this will take some practice 😉
I have 25 set as the quick key number for one of my Favorites lists. I haven't been able to figure out how to toggle that list ON/OFF on my SDS200. Any ideas?
Why didn't the boise services list police??

Do Those work in the United Kingdom For Fighter Jets
Seems like they could speed up entry by removing the . and let you just type 908 for example.
Hey what Antenna do You have on this scanner?
Apparently, I've been pronouncing Boise incorrectly for 30 years.
😂
The one problem with quick keys is I have to remember what I assigned the number quick keys to
I thought it was spelled "Boise"
you go tooo fast
