Darn it. The Trunking Discovery under Manage Favorites does not exist. Now I'm stuck!
Yep, it's been a household name here in Australia. From cordless phones, CB both hf & uhf scanners and radar detectors, though only legal in Western Australia. I've owned them all.. Interesting video, thank you. HooRoo from Australia 🦘
Love that! Cheers!
I was born in a time before cell phones and internet and the world was a better place.
I bought my first - Electra BearCat 100, 16 channel scanning radio in 1985.
Do you still have it?? That’s cool i’d love to find some old scanners to purchase myself and start a small collection.
Great video
Thanks for watching 👋
I don't believe i saw a Radio Scanner in this Video? No SDS 100/200?
Ok?
Got my first police scanner in the late 70s. Miss the good old days when you could hear everything. Almost every week there was a police chase or the fire department was out working a house fire. And on the very rare occasion somebody I knew had gotten pulled over and had their plates run.
Haha that’s great thanks for sharing! Funny when you hear someone you know get airtime haha
Yur going to fast for someone to learn. So I guess yur teaching yourself since yu know the radio. Enjoy yourself
Haha ya I will sorry my free video wasn’t good enough for ya. If you need a tutor to hold your hand I do have paid consultation. 🫡
Looking for. Repair. Dept. uniden scanner
What’s wrong??
Thanks mate ,73s 👍👍👍
No problem 👍 thanks for stopping by
~ THANK YOU! ~ it's been silent for a while, as I'm learning the SDS100 . . . ~ with this tutorial I managed to start hearing a few things . . ~ one question though . . . ~ I followed the instructions and noticed that you used [DEC] when inputting the information (however) on my menu it shows [HEX] . . . ~ do I continue to input the [DEC] or the [HEX]? and does it make a difference? ~ any assist on this will be very helpful! ~ Thanks in advance! 👍
Hey, glad to hear the tutorial helped you get your SDS100 up and running! 🎉 About your question on DEC vs. HEX: both are just different ways of showing the same information. DEC (Decimal) is what most of us are used to-regular numbers. HEX (Hexadecimal) is a bit more technical, using numbers and letters (like 0-9 and A-F). So, if your scanner is showing HEX but you’ve got the info in DEC, just stick with what you have-it’ll work the same way. Just make sure to be consistent with whichever format you’re using. Hope this clears things up! Let me know if you have any other questions, and happy scanning! 🚀
@@BoyAndAScanner ~ THAN K YOU! ~ this clears up alot of what I was wondering about! ~ I've subscribed and will go over all the related videos for the SDS100 and ensure I get it all correct and by your tutorials, I'm sure I'll be led in the right direction!
No it works great ❤
Good to hear!
Sds100 entering frequencies. You go through the process so fast can’t keep up, you know how to do it we don’t. Slow down we’re not at the races. I still don’t know how to enter frequencies without hooking up to a computer. I did enter my zip code but not showing local frequency’s. Help I’m 76
Thanks for the tips!
Very interesting. Thanks
Thanks for watching 👌✌️

I caught the tail end of the Red Rock Security radio traffic that night. Seemed pretty hectic.
I found out about it from the cashier across the street at a gas station that morning. Crazy
Nothing in this video is any help to me whatsoever. I'm in Australia, so the databases are pointless. I can't work out how to just create a system and start adding frequencies to it. I thought this video might show how to manually add, but it doesn't
I’m in the USA am I supposed to learn about Australia? I have no idea how that works over there sorry I couldn’t help.
@@BoyAndAScanner Not at all. The Sentinal software is not very intuitive, so a tutorial on the very basics of using it would be useful. For example, when you add a new Favourites List, it comes up with an empty systems list. This allows you to add a new system. It's not obvious to new users of the software that you then need to go across to the tree on the left and click on the new system you created to then create a new department. Then you have to go back to the tree on the left and select that department to be able to start adding channels. Basic information like this would be a great tutorial video for new users for anywhere in the world.
So complicated
What’s your issue??

Too many “go aheads”. Can’t take it
Sorry… see ya 👋 thanks for trying lol
Well, this is one scanner channel. I’m not going to subscribe to. I had posted something about needing help because I’m visually impaired. Haven’t got an answer from The owner of this channel or anyone out there so I’ll try to get my information somewhere else was looking forward to getting help on the SDS 100 is so old, it’s dusty
Sorry I can’t immediately see every message. Always love be to help but it’s overwhelming sometimes keeping up just fyi when you have a life outside the channel. All these vids are free and I try to do my best to get good info out. I’m one person not a team. Cheers thanks for watching
@@BoyAndAScanner sorry for snapping. I’m just frustrated with this scanner and I haven’t even received it yet. It seems like there’s a whole bunch to learn and your videos were going kind of quick with how to go back a step in the menus and it was doubly frustrating for me being visually impaired, I guess I will just need to take my time and go over the videos again and again thanks
Go for it my friend! I have both, love them both!
Hell ya!
MN ARMER is very complicated would love to see a video on this
Is there different steps between phase one and phase two set up?
The setup steps for programming Phase 1 and Phase 2 P25 systems on the SDS100 are quite similar. The main difference is that with a Phase 2 system, you need to ensure that the system type is set to “P25 Standard (Phase 2)” when you’re creating or editing the system. This setting allows the scanner to properly decode Phase 2 transmissions. Other than that, the process for entering frequencies, talkgroups, and other details remains the same. Both Phase 1 and Phase 2 systems will be programmed similarly beyond selecting the correct system type. Hope this helps! Cheers
Hi, I am seriously considering a SDS 100 but I am visually impaired and I am wondering what do you mean by backing out of a menu? It’s hard to see on the screen. Do they have good directions for this scanner? I really want to purchase one because I am in a simulcast area, but I want to be able to use the scanner without having to use Sentinel software as much as possible or as little as possible
God I want one badly
Why not use the zip feature
You definitely can and it works good But a lot of manual programming allows you to customize things a bit better
I want one
How to long does the battery takes to take a charge
With a USB it’ll charge in a few hours from 0. It’s not super fast
I can't help but wonder why he has two different groups for FRS and GMRS?
The reason for having separate groups for FRS (Family Radio Service) and GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) is mainly for organizational purposes. While both services share some frequencies, they also have distinct channels and regulations. Keeping them in separate groups helps to easily identify and manage the channels that belong to each service, especially when you want to listen to or scan them independently. It’s all about making it easier to manage what you want to listen to at any given time!
@@BoyAndAScanner they share ALL frequencies and channels, literally the exact same. The only difference is the addition of the 8 repeater pairs for GMRS and the transmit power limit on FRS but you’re not transmitting with a scanner so that’s irrelevant. Oh well just my opinion.
Thank you for allowing us to be able to here this. 🤔 It makes me wonder how i can listen to LAPD and long beach CA on my scanner. Appreciate thank you again.👍
Getting an SDS200 (Nice 👍) I Have one.. (Personally I'm not needing the Portability of the SDS100.. (But.. Get yours fixed..) Has it's miscellaneous uses.
The micro usb is for the GPS
Totally forgot about that I’d love to try one of those
@BoyAndAScanner the gps works great I have a sds100 and use it to travel between my favorite list when I'm out scanning for news
I have so many questions, but I’m going to watch all of your videos first to see if I can figure out most of my questions. Thank you for the videos!
Thanks for watching ✌️
Plugging and unplugging might have broke the port off the circuit board. Last time i did an update it wiped out my settings. Name of your tutorial for updating?
You can use the other Micro USB to charge. So I run the Micro for Charging, Mini for Proscan at the same time.
The micro doesnt charge. I only use the normal USB for charging and livestream no need for 2 usbs but that doesn’t work anymore. Neither of them have a connection.
The other port is for future updates is what I was told
That’d be handy now lol
Good idea!
I take the sd card out of mine put it in an adapter and plug it into my desktop to update
That’s smart! 🙏
Had the same issue. I had updates waiting to be installed on my laptop after months of trying to figure this out. I installed my updates and the scanner connected. Hope u fix it
So if you use the zip code thing, will that only automatically pickup analog channels? And then p25 has to be programmed into the sds100?
No zip is everything in that area. Keep in mind the dmr / p24 stuff is an upgrade you need to buy and unlock on the scanner but zip finds all in that area within the mule range you set
@@BoyAndAScanner I appreciate you
And then I would make sure the drivers on your computer are up to date
No, it’s not a driver issue. It’s just the connection ports. The issue is no charging or connection via USB but that’s a good idea of cleaning it with alcohol. I’m going to try that. Might even try some dielectric gel
I would recommend cleaning the port and make sure you use isopropyl alcohol to clean it out so you don't short anything and let it dry for 10 15 minutes then try again
Thanks for this. Very helpful
No problem!
@Boy And Scanner How do I search for frequencies for SDS100? I don't live in the USA or Canada.
Radioreference
Awesome video! Thanks for taking the time to do this. I live in UT and am thinking about picking up the SDS100 to scan the frequencies down here in Southern Utah. I tried getting an RTL-SDR dongle to work and scan the 800mhz frequencies down here, but unfortunately, it's incapable of reading the Motorola trunked systems our agencies use. I bought it to try out and not shell out the dough for the SDS100, but I guess I'll probably be getting one anyway 🤣. Now I gotta make sure my old Windows Laptop will run the Sentinel software, since I've gone to Mac for the last 10 years. I'm pretty sure my old laptop will run it, since it's either a Windows 7 or 8 machine, but I'll have to do some investigation into that before I purchase the Uniden. I do have a few questions for you: Have you had any issues picking up the frequencies across the state of UT? Also, I heard somewhere through the grapevine (unsure if it's true or not) that our systems might become encrypted here sometime either this year or next year. I'd really hate to pick one of these up and only have it be functional for a handful of months and become a paperweight. Have you heard anything regarding full encryption across UT in the near future? Lastly, have you found that the Uniden's database to be pretty comprehensive and equivalent to RadioReference's database? I'll look forward to your response and hopefully it'll be reassuring enough for me to want to pick one up. Seems like an incredible device and the software appears to be much easier than what I was trying to program with my RTL-SDR dongle on my Mac.
I used to spend a lot of time in Salt Lake. I’m not sure if I have any videos recording there, but I was able to pick up a lot of police activity in the Salt Lake Valley but yeah, a lot of important things are becoming encrypted, but you can usually get most of the transmission still that I found there. I would definitely plan on purchasing upgrades to the digital when you get your scanner because there’s a lot of digital things business wise there as well that you can listen to.
Hi David any chance you can do a video on NXDN on sds100. I get brief conversations but not nearly what I thought I'd get compared to my local list of channels. It's frustrating does it base off how close you are to the businesses?
Hey thanks for watching. Yes absolutely trying to get some new videos put together and taking these suggestions! Ya you need to adjust your setting for the radius i usually have mine at 10 miles since im close to everything i wanna hear but if you change it to 30 miles you'll get more. Obviously the antenna makes a difference as well.
