Uniden SDS100 Easy Programming and Organizing Favorites Lists By Service Types In Your Area!
The Uniden SDS100 on Amazon - amzn.to/2Sq2edT
I like setting up favorites lists and organizing them by city name and service type, it makes it super quick and easy to listen to exactly what you want to listen to in your area.
Another great feature of the SDS100 is the fact that you can just turn on the full database and utilize the auto-locate feature to set your location automatically using the systems around you. This makes it really easy to get your SDS100 setup without needing to get online to get the frequencies or even connect to the sentinel program. You can program right from the scanner no matter where you are in the country. This is a great feature that I've really found useful lately.
I set up my cities favorites lists like this - "City Name - Service Type". You can do this with all types of services types like business, dmr, airband, utilities, ham, etc. Just remember to clear out the trunking discovery favorites list after you're done discovering a specific service type when switching to a new service type so you don't get mixed systems and frequencies in there. This is a great way to just have easy access listening to the exact service types you want to listen to in your area and using the discovery feature assures you have the current system right from the source on your scanner.

I'm from Pocatello, lived in Blackfoot for a minute, thanks for this video and your time, I truly appreciate you 📸📻📡🚔🤳🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I appreciate you putting this video up. The manual that came with it literally is almost useless! Now that I have followed this video, I’m trying to figure out how to get the weather channel back on it after programming my locals
Two words..."Thank You!". Really appreciate your work. HUGE help and much appreciated.
Love your channel. Keep it up. 👍
Tip: you should place the scanner flat in your table or place it in a mount so that your camera captures the complete screen and buttons and also so the scanner doesn't move - that way we can see exactly what you are doing and read the screen.
Thank you for watching and the tip 🙂👍
Thanks for this. Very helpful
No problem!
looks nice , i am not new to Scanners i have been playing with these radio's since the 1970's , But the SDS100 That Uniden made will be new to me and your guide is great !!
Well thank you my friend I appreciate it! Thanks for watching! :-)
Thank you for this. I pulled the trigger and ordered my sds100 today because of your video.
Did you learn how to use it easily? I want one but terrified of its complexity
Hello : I Just Bought and Ordered a SDS100 yesterday and am now waiting for it to arrive mean while i also just found your webpage here on youtube ,am watching your SDS100'S information.
I like your display colors!
Yeah, me too. I have an sd200 but it's pretty much the same scanner in a different shape. I've tried and failed miserably to mimic these screen colors. I'll keep chipping away and eventually I might actually feel like I know what I'm doing.
My New scanner will arrive today. Thanks for the video. I can see getting it set-up and quite a learning curve and it'll take awhile. But, you gave me at least a starting point.
Keep me updated!
Thanks for the video. Outstanding, great information
Good stuff. Thank you.
So I live in pocatello, was considering the sd100 and I am completely new to scanning. I have always always been fascinated and thinking of jumping on board. I'll subscribe to your channel also good to see a local
Totally awesome!!!!👍
Thank you 👍👍👍
Thank you. I am saving your video. I am very confused but I know I will beable to do it. Thanks.
Great video
I've had the bcd436hp for a few years but it struggles with Wake County NC new simulcast P25 system. I just ordered an SDS100 and look forward to getting it up and running...Many similarities but definitely a slight learning curve.
Hey neighbor, I'm in Wake County with a SDS100 as well!
AWESOME
I just bought one of these last week they said they were programming it for me and the few counties I want to listen to I work in heating and cooling and I have sometimes 30-90 minutes where I’m just driving and I don’t have anything to occupy my time but you peaked my interest when you said you could listen to businesses we at the company I work for use a radio system from the office to each one of the techs and you can hear every conversation so say if I went on a call and I’m out of my truck and the office is trying to get me by radio could I find my company’s radio system and save it on there and turn it on whenever I leave the truck? I subscribed by the way I like the way you explain things and I am a complete noob when it comes to radios.
Great channel
Tha k you for stopping by! 💥🙏
hi havent seen a video in a while finnally got sds100
My autolocate doesnt work but I used zip code
Thanks, definitely a process. I am still wondering if there is a simple way to just add the channel I am listening to in hold mode to an existing favorites list. Haven't figured that one out yet.
4/22 - latest batch of these are back in stores - and being returned to stores because of a screen fit / light bleed issue.
hello, excellent video.. a question.. I'm in Argentina.- in the menu section; Set Your Location .. what option do you advise me to choose ..?
so that I can scan the radios of my city?
Thank you so much David this video was very helpful.. I needed to organize my SDS 100. I am from the Boston area I have had a uniden scanner for approximately 52 years. I have a quick question with Boston Fire they have multiple repeaters do I need to load any or all repeaters? Thank you Sir for your help.
I’m from near Boston and I’m getting an sds100
Wondering why I'd buy this handheld radio over the Uniden Home Patrol II, which is also small enough to go mobile?
if you plug your SDS100 into your computer and perform a database update and you have some favorites does the system see new channels or talkgroups and automatically enter them in your favorites?
question, why do the discovery instead of just enabling the police services for your area from the database and then transferring them all to favorite?
I can see a benefit if your are always at one location and only want to scan frequencies that can be picked up from that location. But for a mobile device wouldn't you want to have all the police frequencies for the area when you are out and about?
Wondering what kind of ideas that people may have for visually impaired people to operate these types of menu driven scanners and radios
I have a question, hopefully you can answer.
One of the departments I listen to has the “P25 NAC: 677h” message that blinks at the bottom of the scanner. When this is blinking I’m able to pick up the transmissions. On the other hand, the department I normally listen to has the same thing, but it goes in and out. For example, if the “P25 NAC” message is blinking, I’m able to hear the transmissions, if it’s not then I can’t. For the past few months it has been doing this. It’ll go out for about 8-9 days and then come back.
Yeah, this didn't work AT ALL for me. The "Auto Location Finder" failed. I had to revert back to my Zip Code and once loaded it didn't show anything. I'm more confused than before I started watching and this vid moved way too quickly. I kept stopping and backing it up to make sure I didn't miss steps.
Great videos but I have a question. I really want to purchase one of these scanners however the programming or updating has me a bit confused. With a new scanner will I need to download the Centinal software? I only have iOS and a chromebook. I’m pretty sure I can get through the zip code set up but concerned about the software update. Any help before I spend $650. Without the update will all the info be loaded for my area?
Any help would be great. I want to monitor a local FD that uses the Starcom state wide system here in IL. Only trouble when I setup a fav list with those talkgroups it wants to go thru and check every tower in IL for those talkgroups. So this takes forever to get back around to a tower these are on. How can I lock it to a local tower?
I am thinking to buy mine but my question is if I will reach some coms living in Lima, Peru. So many thanks.
So am I wasting money having my county and the next programmed into the scanner when I order? Please help because I have to be honest, this looked really confusing.....
It IS confusing, but refuse to pay what some of these guys want for programming!
Thank you for the video! Would you recommend this for a beginner? Every website I see selling this also sells tons of extras..pre-programming, different antennas, cables, software.. how necessary is any of that other stuff?
If you have a lot of digital there you want to listen to yes but if most is not just get a radio like the 75xlt
OK, but im in Europe (Poland) and I haven't any preprogrammed lists. How should I free scan then? I'll have my receiver in about a week. But I've nowhere found anything what then. How to select bands or certain frequencies? Please show us that variant - as if you have no database. Thank you!
I know that the scanner will only handle 32 ssd card. What if I put in higher capacity card?
Hello, I have created a favorite list and programmed my SDS100. My have 2 systems programmed but my scanner never scans the other system. Im located in Iowa and it scans ISIC but not the SARA system. Any thoughts? Thanks
i have the sd 100 scanner now all i knew how to do was put my zip codes in and hear police and fire i want to know how do i program my scanner to pick up rail rtoads can you help me with this please im retired 1ST SGT E-8 US ARMY 24 YEARS TWO YEARS IN VIET NAM I LIVE MECHANICS BURG 17050
Love the tutorials! i was setting up favorites and noticed when i go to statewide and want to add a certain area to a favorite it grabs the entire state (P25) systems. I want to just add a certain area. I did highlight the ones i wanted and append to favorites and like stated above!!!!!! So is there a way? Thanks in advance
I have the same thing with the Indiana p25 system and would like to know
Does these scanners work in new zealand.?
I’m confused ! Lol . What’s trucking discovery ?
Hello Awesome channel. Could you explain if you were in a different country with no known frecuencies how you would go about to populate interesting stuff like police, fire, etc?
Super noob here, so would love a video or explanation on that.
I've got a good video idea for this. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll get one posted soon, it seems to be a very common question. Cheers
@@BoyAndAScanner Thank you so much, looking forward to it!
@@BoyAndAScanner ;( ;( ;(
I can't help but wonder why he has two different groups for FRS and GMRS?
Thanks.
My Auto Locate county was incorrect. Bummer.
I tried Manual Location but it kept saying my Latitude and/or Longitude was out of range. Bummer too.
I did find my Latitude & Longitude from Google, then did a convert from Decimal Degrees to Degrees Minutes Seconds - BUT - the scanner would not accept a minus sign for my Longitude. Grrr.
Where can I purchase this radio. S D S. 100. Scanner walkie talkie
I really learn alot about this Scanner in your Videos but I cannot find out how to program the Weather 162.400 in my Scanner. I know that sounds dumb but just cant seem to do it. Do you have a Video on how to do this? Thanks
Hi, thanks for watching! I have a video that shows how to enter freq's manually here ua-cam.com/video/fa9KOmIKqfA/v-deo.html I may go ahead and record a new programming quickie video for this, its a common question. hope that vid helps, cheers!
@@BoyAndAScanner Thanks, i will be looking forward to it. Thanks again.
My menu is different, Trunking Discovery is in a different spot and when I go to add my area to favorites it is the only one not on the list.
I couldn’t find trunking discovery at all 3:59
how do i program my sd100 to my home town and police and fire thean how do i program for rail roads i have a pc but i do not have program to get program on my pc to program my sd100
turn auto focus off , then focus manually.
i have the sds100 and the software but wit6h 98% of the encryption of police scanners now what cant here crap
I've seen a few reviews which indicate this radio becomes a dud after a short time, or that the bottom battery clip breaks very easily (I see you have a rubber band around the bottom of the radio). Are these reviews pretty accurate? I don't want to spend $650 on a radio that is going to crap out after 6 months.
I’ve had mine for a week and am going to return it 3:59
Auto locate don’t work for mr where I am
Does anyone in Las Vegas have this scanner? I know that Metro encrypted their frequencies but I want to know if there is enough other things to listen to in this area?
Here is a list of some digital P25 and DMR systems that may be used in Las Vegas, Nevada:
Clark County Fire Department P25 Digital Radio System
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department P25 Digital Radio System
Clark County School District P25 Digital Radio System
Las Vegas Valley Water District DMR Digital Radio System
City of Las Vegas DMR Digital Radio System
North Las Vegas Police Department P25 Digital Radio System
Henderson Fire Department P25 Digital Radio System
Bureau of Land Management P25 Digital Radio System
It's important to note that this list may not be comprehensive, as different agencies and organizations in the Las Vegas area may use different radio systems. Additionally, the specific frequencies and talkgroups used by these systems may be subject to change. I'd be interested if you find out what are encrypted, please let me know or post here. I'd love to start building communities where people can chat about these things i think radios are going to get more and more popular. Cheers!
@@BoyAndAScanner Thanks for your reply. So basically if I understand you correctly, all of the agencies listed above have encrypted frequencies and I will not be able to listen to them. Is that correct?
From 2 minutes 9 sec of video you say to set up a name for favorite list. How? Doesn't let me from here. Do you set them up in Sentinel and move to scanner before you start trunking discovery? I'm confused.
Here at 2:15 on this video I show naming it in the scanner ua-cam.com/video/jRAL-m9KZ8w/v-deo.html
i don't see any of them settings your showing
I have the sds100. Im having issues trying to download the software. So I guess you really don’t need it after all. Is that true?
For updates you need the software
So, if I am outside the US, with no database available, what system name do I use for a trunking discovery session? Thanks for your excellent videos and tutorials.
If you are starting with zero data in your scanner it would be easiest to start with a custom search using a low and high frequency range until you see a p25, dmr, nxdn or any trunking system come through. Once you find a frequency that is part of a digital system you can program that frequency into the appropriate system by creating a new favorite list and creating a new system inside there. Once you have the frequency inside the new system you can set it to id search and then use discovery and analyze to pull in more data from the system. Once you start getting data on it and have it set to auto store, you'll slowly start to build it in your database as you receive activity on the system. Glad the videos can help and thank you very much for watching. Cheers!
I'd love to buy an SDS100 but it should have an internal GPS for that price.
It doesn't. You must buy separate GPS. They also recommended a magnetic antennae for roof of car. Just got mine today. Not happy about programming, it missed 2 additional counties that are extremely close by.
your r so smart u where a size 14 hat
OK, so why do I want to pay to have county loaded on my scanner when I purchase??
It is hard to follow since you go so fast and the video is out of focus
Thanks for the feedback 🙏
Too complicated that’s what I can say! Not your fault though.
Too bad you didn't make a beginner video… Because everything you're saying is literally in another language… All these terms you're throwing around might as well be in Swahili… Does anybody make a beginner tutorial on this scanner, somebody was completely new to scanning they needs to understand, trunking, and all the terminology your talking about?
Dont buy them there completely rubbish
Haven’t any issues with mine so far except for the battery clip breaking.
I have a question, hopefully you can answer.
One of the departments I listen to has the “P25 NAC: 677h” message that blinks at the bottom of the scanner. When this is blinking I’m able to pick up the transmissions. why my select service are 3 short dash, can't choose on/off ?
