1st Gen P-Pump Cummins Conversion w/Compound Turbos

- We had a customer bring in a 1st gen VE pump Cummins and wanted to do a p-pump conversion and make more power. He wanted one of our tuned up p-pumps, big injectors, compound turbos, and more to make maximum power on this diesel. This was a fun build and a lot of work to make a super sleeper 1st gen Cummins.
Find the parts we used on this truck here:

I’d imagine other supporting modifications were performed as well. Such as valve springs, lift pump, fuel filter(s), coolant bypass. Dyno results would have been icing on the cake. The 1st gen crowd is a force to be reckoned with.
Rule number one of compound turbo cummins. Carry an 11mm deep socket in the glove box
kx519 actually 13mm on these clamps
For guys that tow but don’t race, we appreciate this build. Thank you for showing and explaining.
This is a great set up for a tow rig
@@pddofficial
Do you have a number $$$ for this engine setup?!
Do you build complete drop in engines like this, by order?
Thanks
Very cool build, Todd. Really impressive torque. Nice! Thanks for sharing.
That's some nice shallow-depth-of-field in the opening shots - you guys are upping your video game little by little - makes these videos a pleasure to watch as well as informational!
Can you guys do a in-depth build on a p-pump swap 24 valve? Would love to see that one!
Don’t quote me in this but think the 24v comes stick with a p pump
Cameron O'Neill 24v is common rail fuel system, not a p pump
@@MultiMckone Common rail came in the 3rd gens. 98.5-02 Dodge's came with a VP44 rotary pump.
1989-1991.5 VE pumps 1991.5-1993 VE Pump but intercooled from then on still today 1994-1998.5 early half of 1998 were p-pumps 1998.5-2002 VP-44
You guys should add some of the things you need for a first gen ppump swap to your site. I'm sure the kits would sell!
Video's just keep getting better!!!!
"Don't stroke it. Ram it." I prefer, "I'd rather be Cummin than Stroken."
moaski dodge the father ram the daughter
moaski dodge makes it cummins shakes it
The saying goes like this
"I'd rather be rammin my Dodge than strokin my Ford"
You're welcome! 😂🤣😅😂🤣😅
Or you could drag yourselves out of the ozarks and not have any of that playground nonsense on your truck and just let the truck speak for itself.
You guys are awesome! I like how you keep it real! Keep doing what you guys are doing it's very encouraging!
Awsome job guy's. Can't wait to get with ya'll on my Tow rig.
That's one really clean an awesome looking dodge!
Great build guys 👍🏽
Look forward to talking to you guys at UCC!
I said it before and I'll say it again you are having WAY to much fun ☺
I am so looking forward to building up my stock Gen 2....
Would love to see a part 2 video on that, good times.
This is my dream truck. Set of towing compounds on a stock looking first gen dually
Awesome setup
Love the old body style
Dang that's a really nice truck
Pretty nice first gen!!!
Hahaha.... yep that’s a badass first gen 😬👍
Great video guys
More first gen content 👍
Put a smile on both of your faces. It has to be pretty awesome
Mike Miller it puts a smile on my face everytime i drive it they did an amazing job on it couldnt be happier
Let me know. I have a first gen that I am building now. It was my first cummins when I came back from Gulf War.
Been down that road with a p pump swap 24v. You guys even helped me out with the set up. Your the ones who told me that our pump builder reversed the rack and didn't tell us Wich caused all sorts of not so fun tuning issues. But in the end we had way way more turbo and fuel then the arp studs can handle and stock oil pump also exploded. So once again that truck is down and in need of a rebuild. We will be calling on you for some head work and fire rings this time threw so we can finally turn it up
That's pretty cool!
Bad ass build.
Epic! 1st gen proper mans truck. Taking your life into your hands every time you spool her up!
at some point i kind of want to try a cummins 4bt insane build. See how much reliable power it can make.
Just takes money. Bet it's a fun truck now.
You guys should start a series of your personal vehicles, all the employees and their trucks. Saw you up at the cache valley gp in the fall, would be cool to see a video on your wife’s excursion
I have the perfect chassis sitting at my shop for that rig
Ooooh snap thats my truck bigger brother
I would love to see a P-pump 24 valve swap. I have an 01, that the VP-44 is great, but want a more!
Fred Schupner yea, contrary to popular belief it’s not a bad pump if supplied proper fuel pressure.
What sorta boost do you guys see verse drive pressure with the compounds awesome content love it keep it up👍👍👌
Seeing Todd scared worth the 10 min. Video!!!
Yeah, my 93 SRW auto needs that. All that.
Dare I ask?
Yes,,,,, A boxy truck video. Have 3 in my stable.
1958johndeere620 let me have one 😂
Your old video of you driving showing the stacks made me want to get one. Ive had it since 2012. Going to be doing cross over steering this summer.
@@Jordy40Growing Glad you enjoyed my truck. Pretty popular video.
@@1958johndeere620 i have your vid saved in favorites. best 1st gen sound vid by far!
@@bigshoots1181 Thank you!
Always enjoy watching your videos. What is a rough cost of this upgrade including the manual trans swap. Thanks.
That's pretty wicked. I love the 1st gen look but that chasis feels so sketchy with any added power lol. Only reason why I havent bought one after my 1st one ( '92 ext. cab, 4x4, dually with a getrag 5 speed)
That’s so cool! How much are those compound kits?
Do you plan on releasing any videos on this process?
How do these Towing twins Fair on a common-rail?
Those compoumds are gonna beat the shit out of that chassis... i like your style😂👌
What exhaust housing do you run on the 369sxe?
Part 2 please???? If love to see this on a Dyno.
PowerDrivenDiesel lets do part 2 at sacramento raceway
Is that like 30* degrees of timing?
So I’m thinking about this setup but I’m planning on putting my 12v in a 86 C30 Chevy dually. Wonder if it would fit?
Flannel shirts for lookin grungy like that first gen lol
Is it possible to adapt brakes from and srt10 to fit and work and a full air ride front and rear be possible?
Death or Glory!!!
What's the build parts list on this gov springs delivery valves lift pump etc ?
What did you do for intercooler? Have you ever done any temp measurements on charge air at turbo outlet and post intercooler?
Fred Newman its stock intercooler gona be putting in a 7.3 intercooler in it next couple weeks when i have time
I have a 1989 dodge Cummins ve pump need a p-pump and compounds
How much would you charge to build 7.3 idi to handle 40 pounds of boost?
Anybody calculate the necessary btu conversion necessary in the cooling system for this? For actual towing.
Can we get an update on this .... and i also have a 14 6.7 that i want to p pump im tired of buying tunes. And my 68rfe has a busted shaft at 94k miles.. so im planning a 6 speed eaton fuller out of a freightliner m2 business class bc i pull heavy and am tired of crap breaking.
I need some info on that afc live tumet dial. I didn’t know that you can have a tuner on a 12 valve
Give us a call we would be happy to help!
CTANE TEST !!!!
I gotta get my engine done up eventually lol
1992 W250 power driven diesel has all the parts u need great customer service and even more awesome parts
1992 W250 then do it!!!! I’m currently gathering parts to p pump swap my first gen. I bought a second gen parts truck with a blown engine and sold everything but the engine for what I had into it. Free p pump swap parts!!!!
Does most of this stuff work on a dt360
Only thing this video needed was a wide angle lense so we could see more lol
DirtyDiesel24v i had a mess inside the cab lol my fault thats why they didnt make a wide angle maybe
Yes would have been better to see what the truck was doing rather that just watch it slam Todd's head back every shift 🤣😎
How many miles per galón you get with those modifications??
Hello,, u guys sell the compound setup yet?
How much does something like this cost to do? I have a 91 .
I like those older trucks , the brakes could uses a hydro boost off a late model truck and some one ton chev master cylinder on the rear. The ride a bit rougher lol . There might be a way to help that . The steering hmm my father old dodge had a problem pulling to one side and we machined the bearing hub on the front axle to get rid of the negative camber and it made the tires sit plumb or flat on the ground and that stopped the truck from pulling to one side . There was no hope for the piece of crap automatic in those days with out lock up or overdrive . The first gen is a nice truck if you know how to make it work for you. I seen a video where they used a third gen hydroboost system on a first Gen. .
What coolant bypass are you guys running on it? I tried the fleece bypass and it doesn’t fit between the block and firewall
D idk how power driven did it but fleece bypass barely fits maybe you gotta massage it with a 10 pount sledge hammer
So could I use a k27 on my 3rd gen
Thats my truck lol
Isael Almaguer
Cool truck I have a first gen parked out back love the iconic 80s ram body.
If you want to make the breaking better on the truck put a rear disc brake conversion kit on there put the slotted rotors upfront with Kevlar brake pads on all four corners and also that crossover steering helps out a lot all also but anyways yeah you’re right I’ve been driving an old first GEN since 98 and he said they’re a little rough around the edges no question about it but anyways if they offered me a brand new truck even up for mine I tom give me the cash difference yeah this German guy was six in a row under the hood
Yea I seen some rear disc conversion on first Gen. I probably do my 95 at some point
👍🏻👍🏻

What clutch break-in?
🤪 i like it! and want my single cab 95 3500 4 wheel drive with the nv4500 to run just as good if not better! I know an automatic is better in many ways I just like my Standard trans. would be interesting to hopefully see how his modded NV4500 transmission holds up.
speed demon its holding up good tows great big stick transmissions in texas does a great job
Isael Almaguer thank’s i sure do appreciate the info. I know some guys around here Central Florida that we’re having Constant issues with third and fourth at around 600 to 650 hp. i’m sure some of it has to do with the driver banging gears and 3rd gear hole shot’s. but i’d be happy if i could just quickly go through the gears and walk into it briskly loaded or not without the worry of breaking it. nice clean ride by the way i always liked the 1st gen’s 😎👍 look it up as “Big stick transmissions” in Texas?
speed demon yes look them up on facebook as super stick transmissions sorry this is theyre number (512) 844-5747 guys name is cody his transmissions hold 3 top manual speed reccords on the track for diesel trucks
I have a P-pump and I just deleted my stock mechanical lift pump and swapped to a high pressure EFI pump so my question is can I run a constant 35-50psi from idle to wide open without blowing holes through my pistons??? I have 5x12 injectors in case you need that info to answer my question
You can run 60psi supply pressure to a P-pump all day long. Blowing holes thru pistons only has to do with your pump settings, EGT's, and timing.
I'm curious how much power it makes down low. I'm interested in a compound set like that. Do you have any dyno results with this turbo setup?
Heath Albritton idk what it makes but it tows pretty good uphill nothing can catch it while towing and empty
ua-cam.com/video/LpG6drdBh8A/v-deo.html
Im throwing together a compound turbo kit in my first gen....what did you guys do for the down pipe that goes in the large turbo? Pics?
@@pddofficial very cool, do you guys sell just the hot pipe? I've called around where I live (Montana) and no one can get just the pipe
PowerDrivenDiesel maybe i have to send the pipes back to you so you guys can clone copy them and mass produce them if someone wants to run the same setup as my truck. Give me a call i wouldnt have a problem sending the turbo pipes and downpipe.
Whats the constang clanging noise when they were driving?
Suspension rattle in one instance and keys clanging one time, maybe parts rolling around in the bed of the truck?
I'd like to see if they made any cooling upgrades for pulling long steep grades. Another question is what are your EGT's and your boost pressures. He's not joking a P-Pump Upgrade is a lot of work. Better off just finding a Pump'd engine out of a 94-98!/2
coolant bypass
Can the compound turbos work with a Jake brake?
An exhaust brake yes they sure can.
Just a fyi, banks power is trying to own the color red. Just like sinister diesel owns the color blue
Pretty sure that was a april fools joke...
@@mrpolarisindy500 if it was or if it wasn't i could still see them doing it
Just saw a post on Facebook about this and it was from sinister diesel that they are... stupid in my opinion
It was April Fools
I need this and a nv4500 in my trash
Talk about close-up of your face hahahaah
They say it’s more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow😬
Use some hairspray when you reinstall a blown boot shit you not it helps a lot
How much did all that cost?
Do you have a kit to add an additional turbo off of a stock t3 for an 05 dodge 5.9?
@@pddofficial
Do you have a ballpark price so I can save now till june?
@@pddofficial
OK. Little bit more expensive than I was hoping for but I totally understand why. I have a special needs kid so it takes me a lot longer to save but one day I will get one from you. If you ever need a truck to sponsor keep me in mind. Keep up the great videos and products.
I don't want to know what that costed but either way Totally worth it......🤘👊
Would this set up work with the ve pump?
Yes the turbos work great the piping however will not work on a first gen.
Dyno!!!
I'm super curious about the total cost of all this work
ice berg a shit load
How would those work set up with an automatic instead?
not great on a 1st gen trans that has no lock up
Well I was planning on going compounds with a Zf6 for my excursion but this video is making me think that may be a little too wild for daily driving? Or maybe im misinterpreting something?
Compounds are really Nice you never loose boost like a big turbo
NPC #47273552 i daily drive this truck while towing and empty and it runs great that AFC live is the best tunner for a 12 valve p pump ever made you wont regret having compound turbos at all best decision i ever made having power driven diesel build this first gen for me thanks alot power driven diesel.
You said the owner had the nv4500 work on! What shop built it?
Rich Camp super stick transmissions out of texas
Rich Camp look them up on facebook only page they have
Rich Camp (512) 844-5747 guys name is cody great customer service
Killer 1st gen, Ive got a 2nd gen if you ever need a guinea pig,
Can you do an in-depth Cummins swap into a Chevy square body video.
jesus trevizo look for Mike finnegans channel he put a 5.9 in the roadkill ramptruck with these guys.
Does this truck have any motor mount modifications?
PowerDrivenDiesel any suggestions for beefing up stock 1st gen motor mounts?
@@thomasexeter97 Last set of Anchor 2710 mounts I got had rubber all thru including where the tear tabs are on the side it makes the mount much stronger. I use them on my crew cab and I grossed 47000lbs with it for 500 miles through mountain country and it held all the power and torque my truck can make, it was literally flat on the floor for 8 hours. Some hills I was down to second gear to pull them. My crew cab is about 250hp and 700 torque to the tires. If they can survive that they should hold good for you too with sensible driving. I ran a cable thru the mount on my race first gen just in case because it is 630rwhp and 1300torque and I never broke a mount but I didn't pull with it.
bcbloc02 I really appreciate the feedback, this is the info ive been scouring the internet for! I’ve looked at 100 pages and forums with no luck, thanks!
How much power can a stock 3rd gen 5.9 hold
PowerDrivenDiesel aye thanks I plan to head stud it first and then go from there Ima try to get around 500hp. I'm sure gonna use you guys for all my parts
What was the total bill for all of that with labor included?
About 20k and he supplied the ppump swap and the NV4500
