This was my competition pistol from 1974 -1979, loved it it was a tack driver when shooting was performed one handed , won several state and nationals competing in the youth category using Eley 22match ammo 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼

I have a High Standard Trophy with the 7 1/4 inch fluted barrel. Bought it new in 1978. Soft shooting, crazy accurate and really sweet trigger. Has a special place in my heart. Thanks for the piece.

Shot the High Standard Supermatic Citation- Military in College in the 70s/80s. Such a sweet and accurate pistol, won many collegiate competitions in individual and team. I finally found a Supermatice Trophy a few years back with a 7.5 inch and 5 inch barrel. When I shot that pistol on a 50 foot NRA target (after not competing for years) I shot a 93/100 slow fire with an eight flyer. The better the tool the better the perfomance. I cannot say enough about the old High Standards, definitely a favorite of mine.

I have a High Standard Match. Hands down the most accurate .22 pistol I've ever shot. Way back in the 80's I bought a Smith and Wesson model 41 Target, and I went ahead and mounted a pistol scope on it. It was a mighty impressive looking little pistol. Dad laughed at it and said he could out shoot me and the 41 with the High Standard. I took that bet, confident that the 4x optic and shiny new pistol would easily outshoot my dad's ageing eyes and open sights on the High Standard. I lost that bet. Then I lost again double or nothing. Traded off the 41 many years ago. Still have the High Standard.

I never heard of a High Standard Match. You probably had a Trophy or Citation or a Victor model, or a Sport King. There was also a 10-X which they didn't make many of.

Great to see a High Standard in competent hands shine in the lime light again. I have a Victor that I purchased in 1977. I was fortunate to find one that also included a 22 short chambered barrel and two 22 short mags. That gun has always been able to shoot better than me, so I've had to steal a little credit from it over the years.

You ever had a gun or a car that you hate yourself for selling it? This high standard. 22 is that gun for me. I was a married E2 with a child and needed to pay rent, so I pawned it. It served a purpose, but it was kind of a family heirloom. The trigger was super sensitive, like none I've ever shot since, and the report from that little 22 matched 9mm. Any, thanks for the reminder Ray! I haven't thought of that gun in years.

Newer is not always better. In today's world cheap usually wins. I just came home with a 1975 Victor 5.5". The trigger is magical, and adjustable. The spool that is the hammer
moves the leverage point of the sear far away from the hammer pin. This lessons the pressure on the sear, for more consistent let off. These HS guys knew what they were doing!

The High Standard auto .22lr pistols pose a challenge when it comes to well tuned magazines. It may take some time to work with the magazine feed lips in order to get them to feed properly. There is no feed ramp machined into these pistols to aid in the feeding process. They feed directly from the magazine straight into the chamber. There are tools designed to adjust the lips of these magazines to function as designed. It may take some time with Triple K mags, but when properly adjusted, they work fine.

Best target handgun ever made IMO. The fit/finish and build quality are off the charts. And Yes, that means better than the S&W 41. I've been shooting one just like this since the 60s. Best trigger pull of any firearm I own. Mine has both the thumbrest grips (which I prefer) and a set of non-thumbrest grips serial numbered to the gun. I also have the barrel weights, but never use them.
Get a magazine adjustment tool and adjust the magazine lips to work properly with the ammunition you use, keep it clean, and it will be very reliable. I use only CCI Standard Velocity Target ammo in mine.
Get a set of replacement springs from Wolff springs and an extra set of 5 extractor springs. They're cheap. They can be replaced yourself with a minimum of tools. Old or weak springs cause malfunctions.

YES ! ! ! I forgot all about the HIGH STANDARD 22... I used to want one of those too... Until I seen what those cost back in the day... The closest thing I could come to, was a PHOENIX ARM's .22 with the accessory kit, that has the target barrel, with is twice as long... Yes, my attempt is the poor mans version... LOL and performed like a poor mans version...LOL.. All in all, the drop in extended barrel kit, gains you nothing on the PHOENIX ARM's's unit, as per the accuracy, stacked on top of I suck...lol... So I stripped it back down to the shorty barrel, and would carry is as a back up pocket unit.. I have one in .22 LR/L/S, and one in .25 cal.. allot of fun, but nothing like these unit, I am sure of that... Dang, you have been rockin & rollin on memory lane... Enjoyable...

Ray that malfunction most likely came from the magazine feed lips there is a way to tune them may want to look into it. Also be gentle with that piece of history I would only fire standard velocity ammo as the frames were known to crack starting with micro fractures that's not seen with the naked eye, the crack shows up when it is to late to do anything about it. I would also make sure to change the springs out about every 10k rounds and it will last even longer something great to past down from generation to generation.

I would like to know ( what year)when that was made ? I do know that , the Supermatic Citation first can out to buy was 1965 . It was a straight up target competition pistol from the factory . 2 1/2 pound trigger pull , it won all the major events for America at that time. The 1965 year model could and would shoot 3/4 of an inch .775 on hole group at 50 yards with the classic one hand hold ! It was always better than the S&W model 41 and it only real competition . Shoot and enjoy , thanks for letting us know that you can get one for round $500.00 they were $1,000.00

Don’t run high velocity through high standards. You could maybe get stronger recoil springs, but I just wouldn’t risk it. I own several HS pistols and parts aren’t always easy to get and can be expensive. The slides are pretty finely tuned to standard ammo, and the 22 short models mostly have aluminum slides for the lighter recoil. Have fun!

So here is a question for you. Why is it every time a grab an older .22 it shoots better than a new one. Case and point, i have a new Bergara B-14R carbon barrel training rifle with a 24X scope on it and a 8 oz Timney trigger it can not compete with my Remington 513T made in 1954 with a 2 1/4# trigger and an 18X scope and the 513T at 100 yards beats up on the Bergara every time and at 50 yards the 513 is a hammer. Both are using good match ammo and the 513T barrel is quite a bit longer but way older and as seen in the bore scope very pitted. What did the barrel makers of the past know that the barrel makers of today don't. Remember we aren't talking Vudoo etc. rifles here we are talking affordable factory target rifles. Is it that hammer forged or button rifles barrels suck as opposed to the older cut rifled barrels, is it barrel length ?.
