  • This is one of the later SH Series Victor pistols. The Hi-Standard Victor was a high quality target gun made in 22LR. Semi-auto single action with a 10 round magazine.

    Thanks for the video. I also have one of the older model - with push button takedown. I inherited it from my father and from some documentation that come with it, I think mine was made around 1970s. Very light trigger. But very hard to pull the slide back if the hammer was in forward position. (like if there was a misfired.)

    Great gun, thank you for sharing! (It looks like the trigger pivot pin could use a gentle tap on the left side to seat it flush with the frame again.)

    And another gem from the past! Just awesome! Why the Olympics aren’t using these type 22s, instead of the ridiculous air guns is beyond me. Thanks, Shep!

      Guess I don`t follow the Olympics, but I thought they had separate events for air guns and cartridge guns.

      Yes, Olympics do use .22 pistols as well as the air pistols. But w the .22,
      at further range of 25 Meters (= 27 yds). The competitors even shoot at
      a longer range of 100M = 109yds slow fire. And all must use ONE hand
      w iron sights. Not two hands!!!! Try dat w ONE hand, 109yds iron sight
      or even at 27yds ONE hand!

    I received a High Standard Supermatic Trophy that used to belong to my grandfather. It has a muzzle break that looks like a space shuttle, deeply fluted barrel, barrel weights, and a very light trigger. I really enjoy that firearm. It is superbly accurate. If anyone reading this is on the fence about a High Standard semi auto 22, I do not see you regretting buying one.

      First 22 auto pistol I ever owned was a nickel Hi-Standard Sport King. Wish I had been smart enough to hang onto it. I`ve never seen another one like it since then.

      They were built to be a serious competition bull’s-eye
      Pistol starting with the 106 series in 1965. I just hope that the people who inherit or buy them appreciate their true accuracy. They are the kind of target pistol that will probably never be built again which is sad.

  • @screamingcockatoo

    I just picked up a 1982 exactly like that one.
    And it's true, standard velocity only. HV is rifle ammunition only.

    • @1957Shep
      @1957Shep  Рік тому

      Most modern 22 handguns are designed to handle high velocity 22LR ammo. Some 22 autos will not function properly with standard velocity ammo. Not enough power to completely cycle the action.
      But some target guns and older guns (more than 70 years old) were intended for standard velocity only,

      @@1957Shep The old High Standard gunsmiths warn against HV ammunition in their guns as the frame cast alloy was not strong enough. The Texas guns solved this before going under with a new alloy.
      I've see a Buckmark with a cracked frame form HV ammo too though,

    Shep, U just made my day, I always enjoy your firearms and videos. And u never make them too long. I have not got any good Rugers recently, but I did buy another New Canik TP9 Elite SC, yesterday. Back when Trump sent out the first stimulus I bought a CZ75 9mm. What I thought to be my choice 9mm, and I do luv the CZs. But then I bought my first Canik, it was so accurate and smooth trigger n shooting, I sold the CZ. Im not a know it all, but I have collected for 40 years. Also worked in 2 Ohio gun shops in the 80s. . .have a great weekend

      The trigger pull on this gun is fantastic. Great American made target pistol. Right up there with the S&W model 41.
      Say. Did you see the Soap Creek Armory video I posted? Josh has a Wilson Combat 1911 in the shop. I think it has your name on it. :-) Wish someone would buy that thing so it would stop tempting me. :-)
      He also has a nice batch of S&W K38s in on consignment if you know anyone who is interested. Including a pair of full target model 14s. Wish someone would buy those too. Every time I go in there, there are way too many temptations that would damage my bank account. :-)

    Why is it that this pistol was designed as yes, a target pistol. But it was designed
    to shoot at NRA Bullseye competitions. And that means u must shoot it w only ONE
    hand. And u don't shoot at 7 yds or 15yds with two hands. But u must shoot
    at 25 yrds time fire, rapid fire w only ONE hand. And then u shoot at 50, yes
    50 yds slow fire with ONLY ONE hand.
    If u look at the utube videos on this Victor HS pistol reviews, they're all shooting
    w two hands at short short distances, acknowledging that this is a great TARGET
    pistol. The Victor pistol designer will cry for such ignorant shooters. And, the
    reviewers won't point out the advantage of this pistol, which is that it doesn't
    have a reciprocating frame w a separated barrel inside. I.e., this pistol doesn't
    use the 1911 JohnBrwng design. The Victor's front n rear sights are stationary
    wrt the bbl!!! That is, the inherent accuracy is built into this pistol. Same goes
    to the Ruger Mark I, II, III pistols, in that case, the bbl is stationary w the bolt
    inside the attached receiver. Brwng Buckmark had copied HiStd's Victor pistol
    and yes, the Bkmrk was not designed by the late JohnB. I don't know about
    how gd the trigger of the BM but if its trigger is good as the Victor's, it s/b
    gd nuf for the NRA Bullseye comp!

Probably by someone who sold them on the street for NOTHING because they probably didn't realize they were .22's. Right behind that case was a S&W model 27 and an Italian Beretta 92. Dumbest crooks🙄

    I like the gold trigger,mag release and safety. On the bottom of the barrel is that counter weights? If so are they adjustable? Add or subtract weights?

    • @1957Shep
      @1957Shep  3 роки тому +1

      The barrel weight are held on by a couple of allen screws. It can be changed out for different ones, or removed completely.

    Sweet gun , looks like a decent shooter and with the weight . Looks in nice shape , how is the take down on that one compared to the early ones?

    • @1957Shep
      @1957Shep  3 роки тому

      To me, the hex screw take down is easier than the push button or lever barrel releases on the older models. It required a lot of pressure to push one of those push buttons far enough to release the barrel from the frame. It`s big advantage was that it was fast and didn`t require any tools.
      On the SH series guns you use an Allen Wench to remove the barrel from the frame.
