This dude is on soft dirt. It looks like some type of orchard. You probably could find soft dirt around new construction houses but older houses has dirt so hard with tree roots and rocks and clay. It'll take 30 minutes to dig one hole.

I agree this was soft sandy soil. It hasn’t been worked for many years. That said I have used them in many different applications including clay and it definitely makes quick work in most all applications

Great comment! Auger just made my life miserable, thanks god I left my backyard work unharmed… but the auger is very rude, hits a rock and you get a big kick back, if it finds just 1 rock, it just won’t continue digging at all, just kicks back and kicks back and again... Apart from that, the version I rented from home depot it cannot stop, does not have a “break” so for 1 person is very hard to turn it off, or even on, because the second it turns on it starts digging, so how come? The only way to control it is by holding it off the ground and is very heavy… so never rent me of those. I wonder if the battery version of the auger will give you more control…

This would go a little slower here in New England

I’ve used it in clay soil too. Not quite as fast. But still game changing

Hard is a bit more challenging. Wetting the soil down can help

I can tell that you’re not in Georgia clay country.

Definitely not. I have used it in clay, that’s a bit more work.
