I have the first issue of Shrapnel...I also used to have most of Battletechnology, which I wish I still had. Not sure why I didn't pick up more of the Shrapnel's when they came out.
As someone who collects, loves all three, I’d choose them for different reasons: 1) CAV ultra small engaged fun community. John (CAV Boss) and the crew are super accessible on streams and comms. It’s a game and IP that is far less fleshed out, you can help steer it some, and kind of make it your own. Probably won’t find a ton of people to play with. Complex rules but can still be accessible. Pretty inexpensive compared to others. Some fantastic new DualCast models. Made in the USA, 2) Dropzone : clean game and IP. The game play that I enjoy most. Terrain interaction here, and getting cool buildings, as much a part of the game as the models. Very neatly self contained and accomplishes what it sets out to do very well. 3) BattleTech : love it for the lore, stories, and Alpha Strike. Most well established and vibrant current community. Sooooo CAV for the community and niche, Dropzone for the game, and BattleTech for the lore. You may find different reasons, but that’s why I love them most. Also the scales work well together. Whichever you choose it is worth kind of dabbling in the other two. I’d probably pick a two player starter in Dropzone or one of the Btech boxes … but then find some fun on Talon Games website to get to learn and try out. Happy Sci Fi war gaming! These are fabulous choices all.
@@thehobbyhabit I see seeing as I am in Britain (London) it's likely it's between Dropzone or battletech. I like the game terrain of Dropzone but I'm not sure I can use it with Battletech. I have yet to purchase a set I am not sure I like the hex map of battletech as there's less you can do with the terrain. So yeah really between battletech or Dropzone. What I might do is buy the BT beginner box for 20 pounds tomorrow actually try it out then purchase the Dropzone two player starter set later then pursue one of them
why does the shrapnel magazine website seem to imply that for the cost of subscription you only get a digital copy? i wouldnt want that, i would want a physical copy if i were to pay for a subscription
@@thehobbyhabit correct. I actually called and the president of the company answered the phone and explained that they just dont have the subscription base yet, not enough subscribers, so you gotta get each issue individually if you want a physical copy for your shelf
The smaller book is called a mass-market paperback. The shrapnels are trade-size.
Good video thank you. I'm picking them up myself

I'll have to start picking these up.
Cool video.
I'm looking to get into either battletech Dropzone commander or CAV reaper but I'm not really sure which one to get into any advice?

@@arjunbadeshia2893 you can also play BattleTech “hexless”. My preferred BattleTech ruleset is Alpha Strike which is designed to be hexless. 👍

Pretty sure the subscription is for digital only. To get print you must buy the individual print on demand copies individually each month.
