Honestly this is one of the best video on the topic out there. Clear, articulate, fun and you hit the nail on the head with some of your comments. Great stuff and plenty for me to add to my wish list! Also, no ads!! That’s incredibly rare on UA-cam these days :)
I'm looking around for good Dungeon Crawler games and I think this is the best list I've found. A good presentation and not wasting time by hiding the list of what games are included.
I agree with comments. Missing on the list: Shadows of Brimston, Imperial Assault and Middara. But looking on the list I cannot decide which of games should be replaced by them.
The list includes only those board games that I have played and know and like. Shadows of Brimston, Imperial Assault and Middara are board games I need to check out. Thanks for the suggestion.
@@JoeyjojoShabadoo7 I find imperial assault really dull. Mostly since it is incredibly easy to win scenarios. It usually resolves in the empire player pulling back to defend the objective and the rebel player just trying to rush the objective. Due to the turn limits the rebels have to hurry but then conversely the fact the rebels have two lives means the empire will struggle to down them unless they crowd up and nuke them down. So it's really dull once you play one or two missions and realise this. I play empire as its my mates game. I end up just playing it as a story and let him win as there's really no fun in trying to play it competitively.
If the Gloomhaven system shared one spot there would be one free slot for another game. Shadows of Brimstone has three different themed base games, so there is another decision which one.
I miss HeroQuest in the list, the best balance between simplicity and fun in a dungeoncrawler board game, combined with a great layup, aesthetic and legacy. Perfect to be played in family.
Many of these are in my top rated games list as well, and yes, Etherfields is also in my Top 5! I would add 2 very special dungeon crawlers: *Skull Tales: Full Sail!* - the ultimate pirate-themed exploration and discovery story-driven experience, with a macro-scaled sea exploration and a ship-building port phase to boot! The final one is *Okko Chronicles* - an excellent scenario-driven horror fantasy, set in feudal Japan with stunning miniatures and evocative location tiles, as well as heaps and heaps of lore. Must haves on any serious dungeon crawler lover's list.
I really appreciate that you showed content from each of the games whilst reviewing and rating them. I have added a few of the games you mentioned to my collection thanks to your efforts with this video. Keep up the great work.
Thank you for bringing your videos to those of us limited to English! Your presentation is excellent, the quality of your videos is amazing. I have about 2/3 of the games in your top 15 and enjoy every one of them. Your taste in dungeon crawlers aligns with mine, I appreciate that you also delve into medium to heavy games. Please keep the videos in english coming!
Castle Ravenloft? Wrath of Ashardalon? Legend of Drizzt? These are consistently underrated dungeon crawlers that regular make appearances on our table because they are D&D lite without the need for a DM. If you could, please take some time to show these great games some love. :)
@@EpicKing JUST learn whats in the rule book its quite a simple game, if you see things on cards that you don't know what its for then its because your not meant to know....yet.
One of the best videos I have seen this year. I loved that you explained your choices clearly and compared them to others on the list. Is there any chance you would do one for adventure games too?
"Folklore". It has more story than Gloomhaven, the convenience of Jaws of the Lion, multiple adventuring mechanics (travel and combat) kinda like Etherfields" and no minis, like Machina Archana, so the price is reasonable : )
Etherfields is often bashed and I am glad it made it to the top of the list. Yes, there were issues at first but it really isn't that bad. Continuous dream mode and power naps in 2.0 helped tone down the (sometimes necessary) repetitiveness. I think people just like to jump on the trend train of hating a game after their first encounter with a bad rulebook 😂. Which happens very often and to the best of games. Thank you for the video.
Omg I love your presentation and how the entire video is produced; great quality & filmed very well. As a native speaker of English I was pleasantly surprised to hear the video in English (so I could understand it!).
I am very happy that you liked my recording. I put a lot of work and commitment into the preparation. And I'm even more happy that everything I say is understandable for you, because I still need to improve my English.
Awesome video! I have all of these except 1 and 15 lol. I do have Folklore as well, and the classic D&D board games which are great fun and simple to learn. And never forget HeroQuest! (And maybe Dungeon Saga).
My family and I are looking forward to the Etherfields game once it arrives from a late Kickstarter pledge. We do have Cthulhu: Death May Die, Nemesis, Jaws of the Lion and Mansions of Madness and we love them all. I would add Level 7: Omega Protocol, but that is a personal choice. Great list!
Christ, I had to turn the closed captions on and rewind because I thought she said she really liked doing this because it's "topless". Turns out to it's "toplist". But that's okay, I'll still give a thumbs up because its about dungeon crawlers. 😂
I'm glad your favorite dungeon crawler is... Etherfields ! Because it's mine too, and by a large stretch. I think this game was, and still is, ahead of its time. Like any very innovative product, it received as much hate as love from a conservative community. But as the dust settles, more and more people begin to see its magic, haunting beauty and addictive world.
Your English is very good, I mean your pronunciation and it’s easy to watch you and understand everything. Other bloggers talk speedily and sometimes to hard understand their thoughts and words. Thanks for the content, interesting
I just bought base game Massive Darkness 2 and some extras for something I could play with a more casual group. Also thinking of picking up Black Plague as well for the same casual group but for a different theme and slightly different gameplay.
An excellent video - thanks! As always, the camera work and production quality are on another level. It was nice to get your personal take on what makes these games shine. (Good to see so many great games have been translated into Polish, too). Keep up the great work.

@@simpelton524 Hi to you and Tobias. I was lucky enough to get my wave 2 copy about a month ago. There is a ton of errata, plus updated cards - and a whole v2.0 version of the rulebook! They have listened to the feedback and adjusted the gameplay. While it's been close to 3 years to get the game, it seems that wave 2 backers are getting an improved version. Have you played Welcome to the Dungeon? Card based dungeon crawler. Fast play. You can easily get a few games in in an evening. Good as a filler while waiting for players to show up for the main game or between games.
I wouldn't count Nemesis into the dungeon crawler genre. I would also maybe have grouped Gloomhaven/Jaws of the Lion together as was done with Nemesis. Looking forward to try Etherfields 2.0. I would just had hoped Awaken Realms had created an app with a voice narrator as was done with amazing Tainted Grail. There was a promising fan project for this, but haven't heard about its progress in a long time so maybe it's not happening anymore.
Ok, I get it. However, for me every time I play Nemesis I have a great adventure, exploration of the ship and fight against intruders, which is everything what a good dungeon crawler has, although dungeons are indeed absent in this outing. I combined both titles because I haven't played Nemesis Lockdown too many times yet. I have no knowledge of the Etherfields app, unfortunately. And I've only played Tainted Grail 2-3 times. But I think that when I get to know it better it has a chance to be on the top list.
Great list. I’d add the D&D adventure system boardgames. They are simple and fun to play…and it really brings the crawling aspect of a dungeon crawl!! 😊
Just threw down for a few of the Tiny Epic games, my job sees a solid lull in activity that might see us have time to give those compact games a run during our break.
Personally I like the original Nemesis more than lock down. Because I like the lost spaceship setting much more and it also gives more of a horror atmosphere. I think lock down is to bright for that and I hate the orange color. For me the original Nemesis is the perfect boardgame and my number one. But that's only because I'm a fan of horror and survival games.
Some really great dungeon crawlers listed. I really wanted to like Sword & Sorcery, but the game was a bit too fiddly for me. I think it'd be amazing with app integration though. One that didn't get mentioned, but would be high on my list is Claustrophobia 1643.
Funny to put Etherfield on place 1 of a dungeon crawler list! 😅 I love the game, one of my favorite ones of all time, but never would consider it a dungeon crawler.. 🤔
