I so badly want to see a simple BattleTech battle report from you all, and especially know which are the lads favorite factions. Moaaarrrr BattleTech! Yesssss!
I just jumped straight in. I bought this box, the beginner box and the clan invasion box. There's a lot of rules to learn so I'll be looking for videos to help with that.
It's funny how we hold onto old ways of doing things, when I got the booklet of mech sheets I was thinking, "Oh, I gotta keep this pristine, and then I'll go Xerox off some copies that I can play with..." as if printing them off of the free PDF available on their website, and now on the internet forever, wasn't what made the most sense. Kids don't Xerox copies of things nowadays.
Good stuff! I have been playing BT since 1987. It is the ultimate smash-'em-up giant robot game. Alpha Strike has the same feel but plays more like a "traditional" wargame.
I have always wanted to get into Battletech and these new sets are awesome, I cannot wait to see when they start with some vehicles, infantry and aircraft. The universe is huge and you can build your own regiments or build existing ones so much variety
As a nice addition, the novella in this box is a sequel to the one in the beginners box, and has a follow-up completing the larger story in the new RPG, MechWarrior Destiny. Together they form a prequel to the novel Decision at Thunder Rift (which just got an audiobook release!) There's a similar setup with the short story in the Clan Invasion Box Set, where there's a short story that was a stretch goal in the Kickstarter that leads into it, and there's a sequel story in the Battle of Tukayyid short story collection. At 11:33, the mech is a Thunderbolt
Correction. It doesnt have everything in the box. It's missing a plastic Griffin mech but it has the alpha strike and pilot cards for it. Sad thing also is that the awesome and battlemaster variants are on 1 card so if yer going to field them both yer gonna have to flip yer card alot or find the pack that has just the pilot cards and find another variant for them both. There is a battlemaster and an awesome but no griffin. Just saying
Can’t wait to see you guys playing some games of this. And the art work on the front of the box is a event from the books in which First Prince Hanse Davion in his BattleMaster is defeating a raider group of comstar acolytes disguised as Capellan Death Commandos.
The map looks like the old school original battletech map. We used 2 maps and a referee. This allow better movement an cover. Using a ref where each team has their own map brings line of sight and terrain 100. Making the game better and much harder. Since you can't see where the enemy start at.
Nice thing to remember, youcan play Alpha Strike and Classic on the same maps, with the same Mechs. So you can always do both systems, depending on your mood
Alpha Strike might be more to your liking. Instead of an A4 sheet, each unit has a stat card, they have an armour damage track, and then a structure one so it's much quicker to kill enemy units, but it still feels like BattleTech.
Thing is 2 or 3 Mechs (maybe 4 at most) is all you want to play with standard BT so you aren't tracking that many sheets. Anymore than that and you are better off playing Alpha Strike IMO.
I wish they'd make a premium version of the game with omni mech models that let you physically equip the weapon loadout via magnetized bits. Might model my own versions of the classic mechs like this if I get bored of 40k.
hehe. kinda late to the table? do you actually play battletech or do you play crap strike or even worse awful destiny? Oh my you didn't know what the thunderbolt was. "Groans" :) One of the most iconic mechs in the game.
I stumbled across battletech a few weeks ago and promptly ordered the armored combat box. I just hope itll restock soon in europe so I get to do some painting and playing with the kids.

Battletech isn't simple lol
Thanks for walking us thru this gray box set!

It's a battlemaster, how dare you not know what it is.
Subscribed.

This unboxing lacks some Urban Mechs!

I put all my Mech record sheets in clear sheet protectors (from office supply shop) then I can use dry erase markers to track damage.
Awesome, i just picked up this for 50% off. Screw u GW
When is the new batch going to be released I got the beginners box and man I love it
the paper mats are fantastic since i lay a poly sheet over them. i have no problem with them.
Yay battletech been playing since the 80s still good more battletech please

I have never played Battletech but I think thanks to this video I am going to pick this starter set up. Great video. Looks like a fun game

love the tshirt
Looks great but (for me) too complex for what it is. I really don't want a character sheet for each mech.

Yeah, at 3:25 you can see the cards!

Love this game, glad to see its popularity soaring!
Cool shirt
Good to see some great plastic. I'll be looking forward to some of the other releases
Can't wait for you guys to do a Battletech Week!
These are pretty much sold out everywhere, no?
Congrats for the 100k subs!
Yes 100k. Congratz
Congrats on the 100k !
Sooo... is this replacing Warhammer40k now? Very cool!

We play Alpha Strike with a lance or two each all the time. Don't need to go big. Just plays faster than classic Battletech. Nice vid though.
watching this reminds me of the time when my mom gave birth to a watermelon. GREATEST MOVIE EVER MADE
Thanks for the unboxing top work. 👍👍👍👍
