That's what happens when you shove a few thousand hp worth of nitrous through a diesel. Unfortunately we can't do that on the road and make large power too.
Banks would probably want them cleaner again. There's no excuse for wasting the money by billowing unburned fuel out the exhaust, Banks proved this with his record setting trucks.
@@psychotikpaisano ahh that makes sense, thanks. rolling black smoke always seemed like overkill imo. Just the hazy brown wisp is perfect, looks like power
@@psychotikpaisano that's not necessarily true, I don't know their set up. You might dyno slightly worse with a lean setup and not have has much ft-lbs but your responsiveness on the 1/4 will more than make up for it. Check out Banks Power
Finally a diesel you can see go down the track.. I seen a guy on TV they said he was like the number 1 diesel tuner in America and he said if you truck is making black smoke going down a track you're note making the power you could be.
Gale Banks is the man you speak of. He was correct. To much fuel means black smoke and too rich. Which equals more power on the table when leaned out to proper ratios.
Not always the case. Overfueling also keeps things cooler. That’s why pull trucks smoke so much. Drag racing they can run them clean and take the heat since it’s less time.
@@robo1210 we use nitrous to cool down the egt’s and lean it out that’s a big part of why you don’t see much smoke. Our pulling truck runs way hotter than the drag truck. Nitrous is not allowed in the pulling class we run. We did have nitrous hooked up for this event.

Seems pretty silly that weight reduction can include removing the bed of the tray. May as well remove the whole rear body and just run the cab on the chassis.
The crazy thing is DHD aren’t even doing the full reduction thing and their truck is that fast. As said above different events and classes have diff weight rules. In the pro-mod classes they are running full lexan (plastic) bedsides only (no bed or tailgate). Plus they remove frame rails at back of cab and replace with chromoly steel tube rear half, plus plastic doors, and front clip (fenders, hood). They even cut off the front frame at cab and fabricate tube front frame + motor-mount plates etc… it’s no different than cars. There are different classes and the higher pro-mod classes are way lighter and not street legal. The engines are dry (no coolant). All kinds of stuff is changed.

If all these guys want is a brief dyno number to win… They should put a 300 gallon compressed air tank in the back with 2500-3000 PSI of air routed via 10 pipe into the intake. You could probably regulate it easy enough to target the 150+ PSI. Almost seems easier than 3 compounded turbos trying to make that much manifold pressure off exhaust gasses.
The tank would be empty before it even got the turbos spooled, motors eat crazy CFM numbers, did the math once a while back with a hair brained idea about creating boost on the Dyno with an air compressor, and the amount of air a regular gas engine was gonna need at 30psi was insane, was gonna take like a 2500 gallon storage tank for a Dyno pull, engines need a ridiculous volume of air to operate, cool idea though
