The Empire's best troop in Warhammer Fantasy is Greatswords too. I am not surprised that they are the strongest in AOE III since the Empire from Warhammer Fantasy was highly inspired from the historical HRE(Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation)

Yeah but they have Doppelsöldner, elite bois with 2 metre swords considered to defend every god damn melee attacker plus great building destroying force, which cost less than war wagons. But I am no very good pvp player so I stay humble and enjoy watching the strategy :D
