This tutorial shows you how to make and sew piping using welting cord and strips of fabric. Piping can be added to home decor projects like box cushions, furniture upholstery, and more. In this example, piping is added to a pillow for a nice finishing touch.

Thank you! I've been looking for a short video to remind me how to add piping. Yours is great!🎉🎉
Glad it was helpful!
Have watched many vids on piping and yours has the most detail (e.g., measuring for piping strip). Easy to follow, as well. Thank you!
Glad we could help :)
This is by far the most clear tutorial. Music did distract me, but that's my problem. Thank you for this amazing video x
You’re welcome 😊 (sorry about the music)
Just finished with my piping on velvet fabric. It turned out good. Thank you so much,,
The BEST video and piping done with a zipper foot. Way to go! I cannot understand why there are so many thumbs down on this professional technique that was so perfectly presented. Love this video!!!🏆❤️💙💚💛💜👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Thank you!
It's the horrible music that blasts in for utterly no reason. It's horrible.
Great instructions! Please do more like this!
Thank you! Will do!
Your videos are concise and so easy to follow! Thank you!
My thoughts exactly.
very to the point, I'm going to make my first seat cover for my kitchen seats and this really put me on track, thanks
Thanks, I'm venturing to do my first upholstery project. You're video presentation is great. ❤️🙏
Thanks and good luck with your project!
Ditto for me! 😊
Thank you. I use to think piping was too complicated but u made it super easy!!🎉🎉🎉🎉
You're welcome 😊
Best piping instruction, hands down. Thx!
Thank you. You made the piping job so easy, and with a professional finish.
Glad I could help!
This was great.^^ I hope you make a tutorial on how to install a hidden zipper on a cushion with piping.
I found your video because I was perplexed as to how to mend my eye mask that has piping. Then it dawned on me that I wasn't turning it inside out and that's why I couldn't get the stitching right! I just recently started dabbling in seeing by altering various items of clothing, and my eye masks that I love but were too thin and too short so I made them more plush and longer as well. I have no idea what I'm doing LOL but I'm having a lot of fun doing it and getting better all the time 🤗 Thanks for your help in my new-found hobby!
That's great to hear! Yeah it can be hard at first, but learning to sew is definitely satisfying. Glad we could help you out on your sewing journey :)
Quick and to the point. Just the way I like it!
Happy we could help!!
WOW, GREAT VIDEO!!! You made this look so easy! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks to you and your clear verbal instructions and videography, I have total confidence I can do this!
Best of luck!
that is amazing.i hope I can do that.i look at chairs and car seats all the time and wonder how they do it.now I know.thanks so much.
I've been frustrated that my original line of stitching always shows after I have sewn all parts d the cushions cover. This is because other tutorials tell you to sew as close to the piping as you can when you first insert the cord. Your approach is much better. Thank you!
You're welcome, glad we could help!
Use a cording foot. Its a must have. Most home sewing machines are low shank and occasionally the slanted shank. Go here...they are hands down the best for explaining to beginners. www.sewingpartsonline.com/juki-sewing-machines.aspx?sort.ss_cat_sort=desc&index=1
CONGRATsS Lady Master!!!!Excellent Explanations!!!!!!!!!! Chapeau!!!!!!!!
Best Wishes.
I just placed an order for some cording to make piping for a pillow I'm making. I ordered cotton macrame cord. You didn't mention that type of cord, but do you think it will work okay? I read a couple of articles that said it work work fine. What do you think?
I'm gonna do this to one of my gowns since I want to make piped ruffles to make it rather fancy.
Excellent video! Thank you!
Grest tutorial, very clear x
Thank you Soo much very simple, and you didn't wast time to explain.
Glad it helped
Please where can I get the cord to buy.
Thanks for the video. Wish you would have gone a little slower and showed how you finished the pillow, but thank you for explaining this so well!
Hi Kimberly! This video is just about piping but we do have a tutorial where we go through the steps of making this pillow! You can find it here - www.onlinefabricstore.com/makersmill/how-to-sew-an-envelope-pillow-with-piping/
Tap the settings icon on top right of video. Scroll to Speed and click on that to slower speed.

excellent video. thank you!
You're welcome!
Thank you!!
Thanku so much for ur nice guidence
Great totural but do u have to use a zipper foot.cant regular zipper foot be used
Hi Dionne, in order to get close enough to the cording, a zipper foot or a foot made specifically for piping is needed. If you tried to use a regular foot, the cording would be very loose in the fabric.
Thanks so much
You're welcome!
Thank you
Happy we can help!
Ye piping kha mil jaye ga
What type of sewing machine are you using?
Hi Kissa, we're using a Brother Designio DZ2750.
What kind of foot presser are you using?
+TierraFuerte47 I'm using just a standard zipper foot that came with the machine. A foot made specifically for piping would work best, but this gets the job done!
Thank you, useful information. Great day for you.
Thankyou
Wow!
what is a seam allowance please explain
It’s when you mark out an inch or two of extra fabric from the edge you’ll be sewing in so it’s easier to sew on that line. Hope that makes sense
@@zoem6312 thankyou so much
Ok thank u very much
You're welcome!

Thanks Afsar! We use a Brother Designio DZ2750. I don't think that exact model is made anymore, but Brother is a good, affordable brand.

lose the music. UGH.
You know the metrification of America depends on people like you?
The longer you continue to teach by the old Imperial style, the longer the switch over is going to take.
You do know that the U.S. is the very last major economy to cling on to these old units?
What say you?
What say you to your kids?
The whole world is metric aprt from the U.S.
Wouldn't you like to be part of the *_"Vanguard" ?_*
I know I would.
