Lyrics
Ring, ring, it's 7:00 A.M.
Move yourself to go again
Cold water in the face
Brings you back to this awful place
Knuckle merchants and your bankers too
Must get up and learn those rules
Weather man and the crazy chief
One says sun and one says sleet
A.M., the F.M. the P.M. too
Churnin' out that boogaloo
Gets you up and it gets you out
But how long can you keep it up?
Gimme Honda, gimme Sony
So cheap and real phony
Hong Kong dollar, Indian cents
English pounds and Eskimo pence
You lot, what?
Don't stop, give it all you got
You lot, what?
Don't stop, yeah
You lot, what?
Don't stop, give it all you got
You lot, what?
Don't stop, yeah
Working for a rise, better my station
Take my baby to sophistication
Seen the ads, she thinks it's nice
Better work hard, I seen the price
Never mind that it's time for the bus
We got to work and you're one of us
Clocks go slow in a place of work
Minutes drag and the hours jerk
Yeah, wave bye, bye
(When can I tell 'em what I do?)
(In a second, maan, alright Chuck)
Wave bub-bub-bub-bye to the boss
It's our profit, it's his loss
But anyway the lunch bells ring
Take one hour, do your thang
Cheeesboiger
What do we have for entertainment?
Cops kickin' gypsies on the pavement
Now the news has snapped to attention
Lunar landing of the dentist convention
Italian mobster shoots a lobster
Seafood restaurant gets out of hand
A car in the fridge, a fridge in the car
Like cowboys do in TV land
You lot, what?
Don't stop, give it all you got
You lot, what?
Don't stop, huh
You lot, what?
Don't stop, give it all you got, yeah
You lot, what?
Don't stop
So get back to work and sweat some more
The sun will sink and we'll get out the door
It's no good for man to work in cages
Hit the town, he drinks his wages
You're frettin', you're sweatin'
But did you notice, you ain't gettin'
You're frettin', you're sweatin'
But did you notice, not gettin' anywhere
Don't you ever stop, a long enough to start
Take your car outta that gear
Don't you ever stop, long enough to start
Get your car outta that gear
Karlo Marx and Frederick Engels
Came to the checkout at the seven on eleven
Marx was skint but he had sense
Engels lent him the necessary pence
What have we got? Yeah, ooh
What have we got? Yeah, ooh
What have we got? Magnificence
What have we got?
Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi
Went to the park to check on the game
But they was murdered by the other team
Who went on to win fifty-nil
You can be true, you can be false
You'll be given the same reward
Socrates and Milhous Nixon
Both went the same way through the kitchen
Plato the Greek or Rin Tin Tin
Who's more famous to the billion millions?
News flash, 'Vacuum cleaner sucks up budgie'
Ooh, bye-bye, bub-bye

RIP Joe Strummer (August 21, 1952 - December 22, 2002), aged 50
You will be remembered as a legend.

Joe and Ian Dury. Kinda shitty it was.
Few artists have affected me the way Joe did. I cried like a baby when I heard the news of his death.

Headon was the glue that held it all together. His departure sealed the fate of The Clash.
I was in Hollywood on 81 and my mother told me if i want a pin button from some Store of récords , i chose one of the clash , i was 12 years old , one of the greatest bands of all time
This was a great era to grow up in. You're watching evidence from the early days of Hip Hop.

Happend realy
BadASS bass line. GOD I wish I could have seen them live then.
I saw them live touring after Sandinista (among my favourites). Thrilled to see them but they did not inspire me. Something about the sound. And Mick and Joe were not getting along. Black Uhuru opened for them and sounded great. I bought Chillout the next day. Still, The Clash is my favourite band. Saw Joe and The Mescaleros , decades later and not long before he died, they did many Clash tunes and they sounded great.
had to have been there at least 5 nights, just a 30 minute subway ride,
It's Norman Watt-Roy on bass, not Simenon
Underestimated band, their one of the greatest. The text is brilliant.
Punk, Ska, funk and rockabilly in one music
Man: You can’t forget DISCO. That bassline is 100% DISCO. The Clash did it ALL. Most likely in the TOP TEN greatest bands/artists, along with The Smiths, The Kinks, The Velvet Underground, PJ Harvey, Pavement, Springsteen, Curtis Mayfield, The Stooges and Bob Dylan. Yes, The Clash is among The Best.

Absolutely ! Still great to hear
Musically, Strummer and Jones complimented each other so perfectly. A beautiful partnership.
Que de souvenirs, en 1980 j'étais à Londres et dans un club, une musique et des cris, c'était The Clash, j'avais 18 ans .

One of several examples of a British group hearing rap for the first time and thinking “Wow, that’s cool! We should try that!”
reminds me when I hung with MDC (a hardcore band) and their guitarist Ron Posner told me they went to California and heard all these bands playing super fast. "What a gas" he said. And MDC started playing super fast too.

Every word is a nail in the cross.
A distanza di più di 40 anni, semplicemente grandiosi ed inimitabili per il loro genere. Un mito eterno.
Joe Strummer belongs high up on the list of the greatest songwriters of the 20th Century -- regardless of genre!!!
Well thats one problem I have, the clash wasn't a punk band, they were mislabeled. they were a rock band. They covered many styles. To pigeonhole them as a punk band is sort of an insult. they bwere brilliant songwriters and recording artist. I'm not insulting punk, I think the labels of punk has been over used. Sum 41 ,Blink 182, Greenday, the offspring. If those are punk bands, i dont see how the hell theyre related to the Exploited , The Swinging Utters, Rancid, The Unseen,
@@bradenzo5386 The Clash started as a punk band. They evolved becoming a fusion band.
@@bradenzo5386 Punk *is* multicultural rock. The west indian refugees who brought reggae and the New York guys who brought rap grew up in the same circumstances that created UK punk. Bob Marley namechecked the Clash.
Don't forget the major part that Mick Jones played in the song writing.
Yes, Mick deserves his share of credit re. Clash' songwriting -- Simonon as well
Nothing could ever compete with the 80's!

So good. They're the coolest band ever - and my all-time favorite. They never get old.

Well, Joe certainly didn't get old. And I'm terribly sad about that. He was my hero. Only 50 when he passed. I saw them when I was a young impressionable punk back in England. I was about 17. Happy days and a great concert. The Clash had a wonderful effect on my life. God bless Joe.

A mouthful of lyrics to remember
As someone who was at 2 of the Bond's concerts, I can't wait to see this! They embraced the times and the future - saw the importance of street art, hip hop, etc. and weren't frightened by it. Instead, they were open to all around them. Just saw an art exhibit featuring Futura - but we saw him up on the stage at Bond's!
The Clash have NEVER been given their full due in introducing Hip Hop to suburban white culture. Radio Clash was THE first to bring the two worlds together to a large suburban US audience.
Maybe we bumped into each other at one of those shows? How lucky we were to experience them live on stage. Saw them at the Pier 84 (Hell's Kitchen) during the Combat Rock tour as well, but I think there was a feeling they were running out of steam and lost their soul with that album.
"It's no good for man to work in cages. He hits the town, drinks his wages." That's more true now than ever.

One of my favorites by The Clash..
I luv them so much. ❤❤
I still remember the first Oct '82 show at Shea Stadium. Still one of the best live shows I've seen. Fans on the field were surging toward the chain link fence in front of the stage during the Clash's set.
John is honest and to the point, a big influence in music…. He also warned us in the 70’s about people like Jimmy savile, he also cared for his wife to the end. A damn good bloke
I miss the band. One of my favorites.
Despite little variation musically the bass carries this song with the perfect groove to hold up the vox & lyrics. Took me a while to realize this isn't just funk; it's rap.
Did you get that from someone else
The bassline is a tape loop of a black British season musician friend of theirs, who does get a writing credit btw. Mick Jones was inspired to write this after visiting a Brooklyn record shop in 1980 that catered to the early rap innovators. You CAN make the case that's its an early rap song. 6 months before Blondie's 'Rapture', which is the 1st rap 'hit'.
Public Enemy were big fans of The Clash.
